"writing": "Black Hole: The Book of Iratus, Episode 88\n\nChapter 871\n\nIratus finally rose to his feet, carefully avoiding weight on his nearly crippled leg. Gripping the ebony's longsaber as if it were a lance, he brought down a charging horseman. Yet the force of his strike also sent him down to the ground—fortunately, this misstep prevented another horseman from landing a blow with his glaive.\n\nStraining to stand, Iratus limped over to retrieve his fallen original longsword and was forced to fend off another attacking horseman. Since the saber was made for the ebony, Iratus did not have its same strength and his counterattack faltered somewhat, though it was enough to force the enemy to retreat.\n\nAfter battering one foe, Iratus discarded the longsaber, picked up his longsword, and used it to deflect the attacks of a dismounted enemy. Reversing his grip, he swung the sword’s handle to bludgeon his opponent to the ground before switching back to parry a blow from another horseman—whose own balance had been shattered, sending him crashing down.\n\nOne horseman attempted a diving assault, but his inexperience showed; he misjudged the angle and ended up wrestling with his own horse. Seizing the opportunity, Iratus drew a knife and began stabbing at the gaps in the fallen foes’ armor—not enough to kill them, but sufficient to leave them too injured to fight. Meanwhile, a fourth horseman tried to interfere. His poor use of the glaive’s reach left him exposed, and Iratus dove in, grappling with him, dragging him down, and using his sword’s handle to batter the now-disarmed enemy. Then the final horseman rounded the flank and chased Iratus away from one of his allies.\n\nGlancing around, Iratus searched for his scattered forces. Some wounded comrades lay crawling on the ground, while the bulk of his allies were nowhere in sight, even with the fog having lifted somewhat. Behind him, he spotted the Edax Slayer finally entering the fray.\n\nIratus: \"Sure took your time.\"\n\nThe battered man and one of the stabbed foes joined his flank; both were injured yet still able to fight. The other stabbed enemy remained motionless—a realization that made Iratus stiffen as he acknowledged he might have killed a man, even if it had been in self-defense. Nearby, the last mounted enemy on horseback advanced, waving his glaive. Iratus barely had time to react—not that his wounded leg would have allowed him to dodge anyway.\n\n---\n\nChapter 872\n\nIratus stepped back, forcing the horseman to adjust his position. In one swift move, Iratus lunged forward and pulled the man off his horse. Yet almost immediately, he had to retreat—shuffling on his wounded leg—as the Edax Slayer and his men closed in.\n\nOne enemy ignited a torch, its sudden flare blinding Iratus for a split second before he could shake off the glare. In that moment, he realized it was night. While his feline eyes hardly registered the darkness, the humans around him stumbled as if fighting blindly. He wondered whether they were simply inept or if it was just the darkness.\n\nA brief glance revealed an unexpected sight: the ebony warrior, who had been playing dead at the edge of the carnage, lay with the longsaber at his side. Iratus’s breath hitched as a thought struck him.\n\nIratus thoughts: \"Did the ebony truly move, or had I dropped his blade beside him?\"\n\nDespite his mind nearing its limit, Iratus forced himself to concentrate as four foes began to encircle him—thankfully, the horses had already fled.\n\nIratus teasingly: \"Ah, now it's a fair fight. What will you do without your horses?\"\n\nBattered Human: \"Foul demon, you will never win against us!\"\n\nIratus: \"Says the people who used children as hostages.\"\n\nBattered Human: \"Demons can hide behind the guise of children, but their true nature always shows!\"\n\nIratus: \"Your face is a demon.\"\n\nThe center human, the one wearing similar armor to Iratus, was next to speak.\n\nSkilled Human: \"Buying time won't help you. You will die here, monster.\"\n\nIratus: \"I’d say you’re utterly deluded. If there is one thing I've learned, it's that the children of pride will never admit they're wrong.\"\n\nSkilled Human: \"What are you talking about, rat?\"\n\nIratus: \"First, despite looking like a mouse, I am a cat. Second, I am saying that you are so far gone that you think innocent children are evil and say that I am a spiritual evil. If you actually thought me to be an aspect of evil, you wouldn't try to grandstand about yourself.\"\n\n---\n\nChapter 873\n\nBattered Human: \"Just more demon tricks.\" he spat.\n\nIratus: \"I can’t fathom how you see a bipedal mouse as a demon, but suit yourself. Frankly, insisting that demons can take on physical form is blasphemous.\"\n\nBattered Human: \"Blasphemous? How dare you! We are the chosen of the divine—miracles and signs have guided us to Purple City, and we now stand on the brink of becoming its wards.\"\n\nIratus: \"That reminds me, what is your relationship with Purple City? Were you sent by them?\"\n\nBattered Human: \"Sent? No. We are adventurers, destined to become their champions once we vanquish their greatest foe—the Tower of the West.\"\n\nIratus shook his head.\n\nIratus: \"I suppose I never mentioned the name of my settlement. But why would we be their greatest enemy? We merely visited their city to introduce ourselves.\"\n\nSkilled Human: \"You slaughtered their forces in cold blood.\"\n\nIratus: \"We only took out a scouting party that fired on us. I wouldn’t call that cold-blooded murder—it was self-defense.\"\n\nIratus then had an inquisitive look before shaking his head.\n\nIratus: \"Wait—you're both speaking my language. What’s the story behind that?\"\n\nBattered Human: \"We know many tongues, and this isn’t yours, beast. An ally taught it to us. Enough stalling! It’s time to prove that we are God's chosen warriors by striking you down!\"\n\nIratus: \"Ah, a god of blood and death, is it?\" He chuckled.\n\nIratus sighed as he met many people who seemed to worship the same God as him. However, some people worship gods of war, like Victorium, who led a warband to force his religion onto others. Then, Iratus noticed the battered human seething with anger as if what he said offended him.\n\n---\n\nChapter 874\n\nIratus rolled his eyes.\n\nIratus: \"Something wrong?\"\n\nThe center human sneered.\n\nSkilled Human: \"What would a beast like you know about God? You're nothing but a lesser creature, meant only to further my ascension.\"\n\nIratus smirked.\n\nIratus: \"I guess the Sin Lord of Pride was right in saying that Purple City followed in his footsteps.\"\n\nSkilled Human: \"Excuse me?\"\n\nIratus: \"What, haven't you been invaded by the Sin Lords and their monsters? If you haven't, maybe you're not as extraordinary as you think.\"\n\nSkilled Human: \"I have fought the Sin Lord of Ruin, slain countless conduits of the Kollektivi, and barely survived Perudot's arena. I've defeated so many monsters that the builders of Nexus Prime bestowed upon me the title, The Virtue of Diligence.\"\n\nIratus thoughts: \"I wonder if I should tell him that I was given the title of The Virtue of Family. As if he would even care or believe me.\"\n\nFog drifted through the battlefield as a steady drizzle fell and lightning flashed relentlessly, nearly rendering the torches redundant.\n\nSkilled Human: \"It is my destiny to become the champion of Purple City and vanquish beasts like you. I am Hammurabi!\"\n\nIratus: \"Hello, good sir. I am Iratus Lionheart—just a man trying to live peacefully with his loving family. Pleased to meet you.\"\n\nGlancing over, Iratus noticed the ebony figure edging closer to the longsaber. He knew it wasn’t dead, yet its inert state was maddening; he suspected it might attack when everyone was at their most vulnerable. Scanning the sidelines, he realized none of his allies had returned to the fray.\n\nHammurabi: \"Prepare to die, rat.\"\n\n ---\n\nChapter 875\n\nIratus got into his classic high guard stance, wielding his blade above him. While he tried to maneuver into a better position, his strained and wounded leg prevented him from doing anything other than limping a step or two.\n\nThe three men surrounded Iratus and prepared to attack. Gritting his teeth, he pulled out a knife and tossed it at the wounded human. Thrown knives weren't very effective, but since the man was already staggering from his injuries, the knife throw managed to knock him off balance enough for Iratus to ready himself and deflect the glaive of his foe. Hammurabi was next to attack, but Iratus was already in motion. With his sword still swinging from the parry, he caught Hammurabi's longsword and pushed it away to land a solid strike on the man. However, his armor—like everyone's armor here—was too good. Simple stabbings were never going to do any real damage.\n\nIratus finally saw his Otiosus beginning to stand back up. The others still there were too wounded to do anything but watch. As he rose, the wounded human went over to try to finish him off. Despite Otiosus seeming more injured, he was holding his own surprisingly well.\n\nHammurabi tossed his torch at Iratus, who had no choice but to absorb the impact before countering when the two remaining foes attacked at the same time. Iratus had to brace himself on his wounded leg to hold firm. Eventually, he lured their attacks in, letting them bounce off his armor, before striking back. His blade hit clean into a gap in the glaive wielder's neck.\n\nIratus felt the area was protected as well, but it wasn’t enough—the man fell back, clutching his throat, before collapsing to the ground. Iratus again felt a fuzz of stress at having possibly killed yet another person, but his focus quickly shifted back to Hammurabi, who fluidly switched between sword stances to counter whatever Iratus used.\n\nIratus took a moment to pound his chest and let out a yell. The two warriors continued shifting stances in search of an advantage before Iratus finally stopped in his favored stance—then took a step forward.\n\n---\n\nChapter 876\n\nOtiosus managed to gain the upper hand and used his rapier to stab directly into the visor of the enemy's helm, dropping him. However, the mouseman then looked over to Iratus and fell to his knees, unable to continue. Iratus responded with a flick of his tail, signaling to his friend that it was all right.\n\nIratus continued forcing his wounded leg to take the necessary steps to keep up with Hammurabi. Once close enough, he swung his blade in a frenzy from side to side, surprised that the human managed to keep up with him.\n\nBreaking the pattern, Iratus made a vertical cut, which was deflected. However, before the human could counter, Iratus stepped back and shifted his stance again, preparing to counter his foe’s counterattack—but it never came. Instead, Hammurabi transitioned into another stance, sword at the ready, preparing for a probing thrust. Iratus responded by assuming a neutral stance, holding his sword firm in front of him.\n\nA few attacks were exchanged, but both warriors kept just out of each other's reach, drawing the fight out longer than necessary. Finally, Hammurabi seemed to get an idea and lunged at Iratus. With his wounded leg limiting his movement, Iratus attempted a side swing. Hammurabi masterfully sidestepped, interposing his blade in a counter that Iratus barely managed to catch. However, the human dragged his sword off the clash and struck at Iratus’s side.\n\nIf this had been a martial tournament, that would have been a major score for his opponent. But here, on the battlefield, Iratus’s armor absorbed the attack. Still, he felt the pressure mounting as he struggled to regain his footing, and Hammurabi refused to let him recover, pressing forward with another charge.\n\nThis time, Iratus, with a skip in his step, leaped back and raised his blade into a high guard once more. His opponent’s strike came mid-step, and Iratus caught it cleanly. Hammurabi was committed to the attack, unable to stop his momentum. Iratus felt the dread rolling off the man as his sword slid away, redirected far out of position. Seizing the moment, Iratus turned his blade toward his foe and lunged. His sword found its mark, piercing up into Hammurabi’s helmet and striking his face.\n\n---\n\nChapter 877\n\nHammurabi staggered backward as Iratus gave his wounded leg a few seconds to recover, allowing the human to regain his form. Soon, the two men returned to their sword stances—but then a sizzle broke the silence. Both turned to see Otiosus drowning the torch in a pool of blood he had crawled to. With the fire extinguished, the only remaining light came from the flashes of lightning. By this point, the rain had stopped.\n\nWith his feline eyes, Iratus could still see everything clearly—dimly, but without struggle—unlike his opponent, who was visibly distressed, moving his head around in a desperate attempt to track him.\n\nHammurabi: \"Coward, hiding in the darkness like the rat you are.\"\n\nIratus: \"Why do you insist on insulting me for my appearance? Besides, cats hunt in the dark. This is just the home-field advantage at this point.\"\n\nIratus let a slight wavering enter his stance, further obscuring his movements. The human took a few steps forward, seemingly determined to finish the fight.\n\nIratus: \"You're a tough one. I can see the blood seeping from under your helmet, and yet, here we go again.\"\n\nThey both swung at each other, but neither was close enough to land a hit.\n\nHammurabi: \"I'm not falling here. I already told you—this is destiny. God delivers me from battle and allows me to win.\"\n\nIratus: \"Funny, I'm thinking God is with me too. We have so much in common.\"\n\nHammurabi: \"Shut up and take this seriously!\"\n\nIratus: \"Make me.\"\n\nThe human removed his helmet, and Iratus finally saw the terrible face wound he had inflicted. He exhaled sharply, bracing himself once again. Hammurabi stepped closer, preparing for another strike, while Iratus wobbled slightly, using the darkness to his advantage.\n\n---\n\nChapter 878\n\nThe two men clashed swords, with Hammurabi attempting a grapple. Iratus responded by maneuvering his blade around his foe’s, forcing Hammurabi to duck out of the way. The movement nearly sent Iratus tumbling along with him, but he only chuckled—this was the price of removing one’s helmet in combat.\n\nThe fight pressed on, both men thrusting and countering, their stances shifting fluidly. They struck downward at each other, but this time, Hammurabi used his weight to force Iratus back—taking advantage of his wounded leg. Iratus found himself at a major disadvantage, so he dropped to his knees and struck at an unarmored spot from below, forcing the human to stagger backward.\n\nIratus strained to stand while Hammurabi clutched his wound. Soon, they faced each other once more.\n\nIratus: \"You can still go home. Save any of your friends who are bleeding out right now. I know I want to hurry and save mine.\"\n\nHammurabi: \"Silence. Just die already.\"\n\nIratus sighed, but as he blinked, he saw the ebony finally standing—and somehow, it had gotten behind Hammurabi with impossible speed. His expression turned to shock just before the monster clubbed Hammurabi to the ground with its longsaber.\n\nIratus took a step forward, but his anger was already at its limit. He thought about helping the human, but these people had done so much harm. They might have killed some of his friends. He didn’t want to help Hammurabi.\n\nBut then he thought about God—not the god these humans deluded themselves into believing, but his God. What would He want him to do?\n\nIratus gripped his sword tight and ran forward—to try to save Hammurabi.\n\n---\n\nChapter 879\n\nIratus blocked a strike aimed at Hammurabi and deflected the ebony’s blows. But the armored hulk stepped forward, shoving Iratus backward with immense force—nearly sending him flying. He rolled across the ground and scrambled to his feet just as Hammurabi ran to his side.\n\nIratus: \"How about we finish our duel after-\"\n\nBut he never got to finish. Hammurabi suddenly stabbed at him, nearly striking his neck, and shoved him forward.\n\nIratus wasn’t angry—just disappointed that the human had chosen this path instead of working together. He was forced to slam his wounded leg down to keep from toppling over, but the ebony seized the opening. The towering brute pushed him down and stabbed at him. Iratus barely managed to redirect the attack with his sword, guiding the blow toward his torso, where his armor absorbed most of the damage.\n\nGritting his teeth, Iratus rolled to the side, leapt back up, and raised his blade just in time to parry the ebony’s next strike. He turned and limped away, yanking off his helmet and clutching at the wound on his neck.\n\nHe glanced around and saw the ebony now locked in fierce combat with Hammurabi. The human struggled to keep up with its sweeping attacks. Normally, such wide swings would leave an opponent vulnerable, but Hammurabi was always just out of reach. The few times he tried to close the distance, he was brutally body-checked by the sheer mass and strength of the armored monster.\n\nThen, out of the corner of his eye, Iratus noticed Salvos and Deficio reentering the battlefield. Both looked terrible—bloodied, covered in wounds. Edax had stripped them of armor and some flesh, and they bore deep cuts from the enemy. Yet, despite their injuries, they dragged the wounded away—even the enemy soldiers.\n\nIratus: \"How about some help?\"\n\nSalvos: \"Most of us need emergency medical care, and honestly, I can hear a lot of people on death’s door. Do you want us to stitch everyone up or stop and fight with you?\"\n\nIratus: \"For the love of silver—fine! Save as many people as possible. But hurry, because I don’t know if I can kill that thing.\" He gestured toward the ebony.\n\nWith that, Iratus turned back toward the battle. Hammurabi was still fighting, managing to land significant blows despite the darkness and his clearly inferior strength. But even with his precise strikes, the ebony refused to fall.\n\nThen, in a flash, the tide turned. The ebony slammed the handle of its blade straight into Hammurabi’s face, the brutal impact sending him reeling.\n\nIratus tried—he really did—but he couldn’t reach Hammurabi in time.\n\nThe ebony cleaved into the man's neck, ending the fight in an instant. Then, without hesitation, it turned its gaze to Iratus, striding forward in a single, fluid motion—almost like a blur.\n\n---\n\nChapter 880\n\nIratus stopped, trying to catch his breath. He was exhausted. He had already fought so many enemies, and now, the strongest and most durable one of them all was walking toward him.\n\nIratus: \"Back to the way things should be, right?\"\n\nThe ebony halted, and Iratus froze in confusion and shock.\n\nEbonys were monsters, but they weren’t mindless. They were cunning, adaptable—but never before had Iratus seen one stop to listen. The idea was absurd. And yet, here it was, standing still.\n\nIratus took the moment to recover and, seeing no reason to stop, kept talking.\n\nIratus: \"These humans things talked a big game about destiny. How this was supposed to be the part of the story where they triumphed over their greatest challenge. But you and I? We know the truth. This story is about monsters. It’s about creatures like you hunting down people.\"\n\nStill, the ebony remained motionless.\n\nIratus, still baffled, turned to check if there was something else behind him—an unseen threat, an ambush. But there was nothing. The ebony was actually listening to him.\n\nSo, he kept talking.\n\nIratus: \"This is how it’s supposed to go—not two great warriors fighting for the future of their people, but men struggling against the unrelenting force that is... whatever the silver hell you are.\"\n\nHe gave a pause before continuing.\n\nIratus: \"Me versus you. Gripping the ebony's longsaber as if it were a lance, he brought down a charging horseman. Yet the force of his strike also sent him down to the ground—fortunately, this misstep prevented another horseman from landing a blow with his glaive.

Straining to stand, Iratus limped over to retrieve his fallen original longsword and was forced to fend off another attacking horseman. Since the saber was made for the ebony, Iratus did not have its same strength and his counterattack faltered somewhat, though it was enough to force the enemy to retreat.

After battering one foe, Iratus discarded the longsaber, picked up his longsword, and used it to deflect the attacks of a dismounted enemy. Reversing his grip, he swung the sword’s handle to bludgeon his opponent to the ground before switching back to parry a blow from another horseman—whose own balance had been shattered, sending him crashing down.

One horseman attempted a diving assault, but his inexperience showed; he misjudged the angle and ended up wrestling with his own horse. Then the final horseman rounded the flank and chased Iratus away from one of his allies.

Glancing around, Iratus searched for his scattered forces. Some wounded comrades lay crawling on the ground, while the bulk of his allies were nowhere in sight, even with the fog having lifted somewhat. Behind him, he spotted the Edax Slayer finally entering the fray.

Iratus: "Sure took your time."

The battered man and one of the stabbed foes joined his flank; both were injured yet still able to fight. The other stabbed enemy remained motionless—a realization that made Iratus stiffen as he acknowledged he might have killed a man, even if it had been in self-defense. Nearby, the last mounted enemy on horseback advanced, waving his glaive. Iratus barely had time to react—not that his wounded leg would have allowed him to dodge anyway.

---

Chapter 872

Iratus stepped back, forcing the horseman to adjust his position. In one swift move, Iratus lunged forward and pulled the man off his horse. Yet almost immediately, he had to retreat—shuffling on his wounded leg—as the Edax Slayer and his men closed in.

One enemy ignited a torch, its sudden flare blinding Iratus for a split second before he could shake off the glare. In that moment, he realized it was night. While his feline eyes hardly registered the darkness, the humans around him stumbled as if fighting blindly. He wondered whether they were simply inept or if it was just the darkness.

A brief glance revealed an unexpected sight: the ebony warrior, who had been playing dead at the edge of the carnage, lay with the longsaber at his side. Iratus’s breath hitched as a thought struck him.

Iratus thoughts: "Did the ebony truly move, or had I dropped his blade beside him?"

Despite his mind nearing its limit, Iratus forced himself to concentrate as four foes began to encircle him—thankfully, the horses had already fled.

Iratus teasingly: "Ah, now it's a fair fight. What will you do without your horses?"

Battered Human: "Foul demon, you will never win against us!"

Iratus: "Says the people who used children as hostages."

Battered Human: "Demons can hide behind the guise of children, but their true nature always shows!"

Iratus: "Your face is a demon."

The center human, the one wearing similar armor to Iratus, was next to speak.

Skilled Human: "Buying time won't help you. You will die here, monster."

Iratus: "I’d say you’re utterly deluded. If there is one thing I've learned, it's that the children of pride will never admit they're wrong."

Skilled Human: "What are you talking about, rat?"

Iratus: "First, despite looking like a mouse, I am a cat. Second, I am saying that you are so far gone that you think innocent children are evil and say that I am a spiritual evil. If you actually thought me to be an aspect of evil, you wouldn't try to grandstand about yourself."

---

Chapter 873

Battered Human: "Just more demon tricks." he spat.

Iratus: "I can’t fathom how you see a bipedal mouse as a demon, but suit yourself. Frankly, insisting that demons can take on physical form is blasphemous."

Battered Human: "Blasphemous? How dare you! We are the chosen of the divine—miracles and signs have guided us to Purple City, and we now stand on the brink of becoming its wards."

Iratus: "That reminds me, what is your relationship with Purple City? Were you sent by them?"

Battered Human: "Sent? No. We are adventurers, destined to become their champions once we vanquish their greatest foe—the Tower of the West."

Iratus shook his head.

Iratus: "I suppose I never mentioned the name of my settlement. But why would we be their greatest enemy? We merely visited their city to introduce ourselves."

Skilled Human: "You slaughtered their forces in cold blood."

Iratus: "We only took out a scouting party that fired on us. I wouldn’t call that cold-blooded murder—it was self-defense."

Iratus then had an inquisitive look before shaking his head.

Iratus: "Wait—you're both speaking my language. What’s the story behind that?"

Battered Human: "We know many tongues, and this isn’t yours, beast. An ally taught it to us. Enough stalling! It’s time to prove that we are God's chosen warriors by striking you down!"

Iratus: "Ah, a god of blood and death, is it?" He chuckled.

Iratus sighed as he met many people who seemed to worship the same God as him. However, some people worship gods of war, like Victorium, who led a warband to force his religion onto others. Then, Iratus noticed the battered human seething with anger as if what he said offended him.

---

Chapter 874

Iratus rolled his eyes.

Iratus: "Something wrong?"

The center human sneered.

Skilled Human: "What would a beast like you know about God? You're nothing but a lesser creature, meant only to further my ascension."

Iratus smirked.

Iratus: "I guess the Sin Lord of Pride was right in saying that Purple City followed in his footsteps."

Skilled Human: "Excuse me?"

Iratus: "What, haven't you been invaded by the Sin Lords and their monsters? If you haven't, maybe you're not as extraordinary as you think."

Skilled Human: "I have fought the Sin Lord of Ruin, slain countless conduits of the Kollektivi, and barely survived Perudot's arena. I've defeated so many monsters that the builders of Nexus Prime bestowed upon me the title, The Virtue of Diligence."

Iratus thoughts: "I wonder if I should tell him that I was given the title of The Virtue of Family. As if he would even care or believe me."

Fog drifted through the battlefield as a steady drizzle fell and lightning flashed relentlessly, nearly rendering the torches redundant.

Skilled Human: "It is my destiny to become the champion of Purple City and vanquish beasts like you. I am Hammurabi!"

Iratus: "Hello, good sir. I am Iratus Lionheart—just a man trying to live peacefully with his loving family. Pleased to meet you."

Glancing over, Iratus noticed the ebony figure edging closer to the longsaber. He knew it wasn’t dead, yet its inert state was maddening; he suspected it might attack when everyone was at their most vulnerable. Scanning the sidelines, he realized none of his allies had returned to the fray.

Hammurabi: "Prepare to die, rat."

---

Chapter 875

Iratus got into his classic high guard stance, wielding his blade above him. While he tried to maneuver into a better position, his strained and wounded leg prevented him from doing anything other than limping a step or two.

The three men surrounded Iratus and prepared to attack. Simple stabbings were never going to do any real damage.

Iratus finally saw his Otiosus beginning to stand back up. The others still there were too wounded to do anything but watch. As he rose, the wounded human went over to try to finish him off. Despite Otiosus seeming more injured, he was holding his own surprisingly well.

Hammurabi tossed his torch at Iratus, who had no choice but to absorb the impact before countering when the two remaining foes attacked at the same time. Iratus had to brace himself on his wounded leg to hold firm. Eventually, he lured their attacks in, letting them bounce off his armor, before striking back. His blade hit clean into a gap in the glaive wielder's neck.

Iratus felt the area was protected as well, but it wasn’t enough—the man fell back, clutching his throat, before collapsing to the ground. Iratus again felt a fuzz of stress at having possibly killed yet another person, but his focus quickly shifted back to Hammurabi, who fluidly switched between sword stances to counter whatever Iratus used.

Iratus took a moment to pound his chest and let out a yell. The two warriors continued shifting stances in search of an advantage before Iratus finally stopped in his favored stance—then took a step forward.

---

Chapter 876

Otiosus managed to gain the upper hand and used his rapier to stab directly into the visor of the enemy's helm, dropping him. However, the mouseman then looked over to Iratus and fell to his knees, unable to continue. Iratus responded with a flick of his tail, signaling to his friend that it was all right.

Iratus continued forcing his wounded leg to take the necessary steps to keep up with Hammurabi. Once close enough, he swung his blade in a frenzy from side to side, surprised that the human managed to keep up with him.

Breaking the pattern, Iratus made a vertical cut, which was deflected. However, before the human could counter, Iratus stepped back and shifted his stance again, preparing to counter his foe’s counterattack—but it never came. Instead, Hammurabi transitioned into another stance, sword at the ready, preparing for a probing thrust. Iratus responded by assuming a neutral stance, holding his sword firm in front of him.

A few attacks were exchanged, but both warriors kept just out of each other's reach, drawing the fight out longer than necessary. Finally, Hammurabi seemed to get an idea and lunged at Iratus. With his wounded leg limiting his movement, Iratus attempted a side swing. Hammurabi masterfully sidestepped, interposing his blade in a counter that Iratus barely managed to catch. However, the human dragged his sword off the clash and struck at Iratus’s side.

If this had been a martial tournament, that would have been a major score for his opponent. But here, on the battlefield, Iratus’s armor absorbed the attack. Still, he felt the pressure mounting as he struggled to regain his footing, and Hammurabi refused to let him recover, pressing forward with another charge.

This time, Iratus, with a skip in his step, leaped back and raised his blade into a high guard once more. His sword found its mark, piercing up into Hammurabi’s helmet and striking his face.

---

Chapter 877

Hammurabi staggered backward as Iratus gave his wounded leg a few seconds to recover, allowing the human to regain his form. Soon, the two men returned to their sword stances—but then a sizzle broke the silence. Both turned to see Otiosus drowning the torch in a pool of blood he had crawled to. With the fire extinguished, the only remaining light came from the flashes of lightning. By this point, the rain had stopped.

With his feline eyes, Iratus could still see everything clearly—dimly, but without struggle—unlike his opponent, who was visibly distressed, moving his head around in a desperate attempt to track him.

Hammurabi: "Coward, hiding in the darkness like the rat you are."

Iratus: "Why do you insist on insulting me for my appearance? Besides, cats hunt in the dark. This is just the home-field advantage at this point."

Iratus let a slight wavering enter his stance, further obscuring his movements. The human took a few steps forward, seemingly determined to finish the fight.

Iratus: "You're a tough one. I can see the blood seeping from under your helmet, and yet, here we go again."

They both swung at each other, but neither was close enough to land a hit.

Hammurabi: "I'm not falling here. I already told you—this is destiny. God delivers me from battle and allows me to win."

Iratus: "Funny, I'm thinking God is with me too. We have so much in common."

Hammurabi: "Shut up and take this seriously!"

Iratus: "Make me."

The human removed his helmet, and Iratus finally saw the terrible face wound he had inflicted. He exhaled sharply, bracing himself once again. Hammurabi stepped closer, preparing for another strike, while Iratus wobbled slightly, using the darkness to his advantage.

---

Chapter 878

The two men clashed swords, with Hammurabi attempting a grapple. Iratus responded by maneuvering his blade around his foe’s, forcing Hammurabi to duck out of the way. The movement nearly sent Iratus tumbling along with him, but he only chuckled—this was the price of removing one’s helmet in combat.

The fight pressed on, both men thrusting and countering, their stances shifting fluidly. They struck downward at each other, but this time, Hammurabi used his weight to force Iratus back—taking advantage of his wounded leg. Iratus found himself at a major disadvantage, so he dropped to his knees and struck at an unarmored spot from below, forcing the human to stagger backward.

Iratus strained to stand while Hammurabi clutched his wound. Soon, they faced each other once more.

Iratus: "You can still go home. Save any of your friends who are bleeding out right now. I know I want to hurry and save mine."

Hammurabi: "Silence. Just die already."

Iratus sighed, but as he blinked, he saw the ebony finally standing—and somehow, it had gotten behind Hammurabi with impossible speed. His expression turned to shock just before the monster clubbed Hammurabi to the ground with its longsaber.

Iratus took a step forward, but his anger was already at its limit. He thought about helping the human, but these people had done so much harm. They might have killed some of his friends. He didn’t want to help Hammurabi.

But then he thought about God—not the god these humans deluded themselves into believing, but his God. What would He want him to do?

Iratus gripped his sword tight and ran forward—to try to save Hammurabi.

---

Chapter 879

Iratus blocked a strike aimed at Hammurabi and deflected the ebony’s blows. But the armored hulk stepped forward, shoving Iratus backward with immense force—nearly sending him flying. He rolled across the ground and scrambled to his feet just as Hammurabi ran to his side.

Iratus: "How about we finish our duel after-"

But he never got to finish. Hammurabi suddenly stabbed at him, nearly striking his neck, and shoved him forward.

Iratus wasn’t angry—just disappointed that the human had chosen this path instead of working together. He was forced to slam his wounded leg down to keep from toppling over, but the ebony seized the opening. The towering brute pushed him down and stabbed at him. Iratus barely managed to redirect the attack with his sword, guiding the blow toward his torso, where his armor absorbed most of the damage.

Gritting his teeth, Iratus rolled to the side, leapt back up, and raised his blade just in time to parry the ebony’s next strike. He turned and limped away, yanking off his helmet and clutching at the wound on his neck.

He glanced around and saw the ebony now locked in fierce combat with Hammurabi. The human struggled to keep up with its sweeping attacks. Normally, such wide swings would leave an opponent vulnerable, but Hammurabi was always just out of reach. The few times he tried to close the distance, he was brutally body-checked by the sheer mass and strength of the armored monster.

Then, out of the corner of his eye, Iratus noticed Salvos and Deficio reentering the battlefield. Both looked terrible—bloodied, covered in wounds. Edax had stripped them of armor and some flesh, and they bore deep cuts from the enemy. Yet, despite their injuries, they dragged the wounded away—even the enemy soldiers.

Iratus: "How about some help?"

Salvos: "Most of us need emergency medical care, and honestly, I can hear a lot of people on death’s door. Do you want us to stitch everyone up or stop and fight with you?"

Iratus: "For the love of silver—fine! Save as many people as possible. But hurry, because I don’t know if I can kill that thing." He gestured toward the ebony.

With that, Iratus turned back toward the battle. Hammurabi was still fighting, managing to land significant blows despite the darkness and his clearly inferior strength. But even with his precise strikes, the ebony refused to fall.

Then, in a flash, the tide turned. The ebony slammed the handle of its blade straight into Hammurabi’s face, the brutal impact sending him reeling.

Iratus tried—he really did—but he couldn’t reach Hammurabi in time.

The ebony cleaved into the man's neck, ending the fight in an instant. Then, without hesitation, it turned its gaze to Iratus, striding forward in a single, fluid motion—almost like a blur.

---

Chapter 880

Iratus stopped, trying to catch his breath. He was exhausted. He had already fought so many enemies, and now, the strongest and most durable one of them all was walking toward him.

Iratus: "Back to the way things should be, right?"

The ebony halted, and Iratus froze in confusion and shock.

Ebonys were monsters, but they weren’t mindless. They were cunning, adaptable—but never before had Iratus seen one stop to listen. The idea was absurd. And yet, here it was, standing still.

Iratus took the moment to recover and, seeing no reason to stop, kept talking.

Iratus: "These humans things talked a big game about destiny. How this was supposed to be the part of the story where they triumphed over their greatest challenge. But you and I? We know the truth. This story is about monsters. It’s about creatures like you hunting down people."

Still, the ebony remained motionless.

Iratus, still baffled, turned to check if there was something else behind him—an unseen threat, an ambush. But there was nothing. The ebony was actually listening to him.

So, he kept talking.

Iratus: "This is how it’s supposed to go—not two great warriors fighting for the future of their people, but men struggling against the unrelenting force that is... whatever the silver hell you are."

He gave a pause before continuing.

Iratus: "Me versus you. The way it should be. This is how the story began, and this is how it will end."

He shook his head.

Iratus: "What even are you?"

It wasn't really a question as more of a trail of thought, but he got an answer regardless.

Ebony: "Ta'avah."

---

EPISODE 88: END

---

Episode 88 End Character Sheet<br
