"writing": "Black Hole: The Book of Iratus, Episode 74\n\nChapter 731\n\nIratus's head throbbed. The dull ache of being awoken early mixed with gunfire ringing around him. Bullets ricocheted off the walls, and he shook off the fog in time to see Confodere grab an old rifle and press himself against the wall by the window. From her loft above, Venatio shouted orders.\n\nVenatio: \"We need to surround them. Head out the back!\"\n\nThe wolfman nodded his head and headed for the back door, with Malignitas and Iter following. Iratus was pinned down by the hail of gunfire, with Deficio looking quite fine where he was, even though a hint of a scowl was on his face. The lion priest unwrapped his hand, and his metallic cyberarm opened. Iratus almost forgot the cyberarm that Deficio had with the priest flicking his arm, and when the enemies outside stopped, most likely to reload, Deficio and Confodere fired back.\n\nConfodere’s bolt-action rifle was slow, but his aim was precise. One loud crack followed his triumphant shout.\n\nConfodere: \"Got one!\"\n\nIratus scrambled to the window just in time to see another figure collapse, struck by Deficio’s shot. One enemy remained, and they fired a fresh volley into the cabin, forcing everyone to dive for cover again. Confodere gripped his rifle, a look of focused determination crossing his face.\n\nConfodere: \"Any second now...\"\n\nAnother bullet whizzed through the cabin, and then, with deliberate calm, Confodere stepped up to the window, sighted down his iron sights, and squeezed the trigger.\n\n---\n\nChapter 732\n\nIratus led the group outside, where the others were busy securing their wounded enemies.\n\nIter: \"You saved us from getting shot. Thank you.\"\n\nMalignitas: \"Looks like you’re the best shot around.\"\n\nConfodere, the stoic hyena man, gave them a wordless thumbs up.\n\nIratus: \"Hey, who has been shooting us?\"\n\nOne of the fallen, an older human man, had leathery skin baked from years in the sun, his scraggly beard matching the sun-bleached strands of hair. Beside him lay a nixman, with skin-tinged purple, pointy ears, and the stark white hair typical of his kind. Both were dead. The last figure, another human, wore thick, gambeson-like armor. His dark skin was so deep it almost looked like ink in the dim light. A shot had torn through his shoulder, leaving the blue and white padding shredded.\n\nIratus: \"Skin things.\"\n\nVenatio's eyes narrowed as she inspected the men, then pointed at the crudely made badges.\n\nVenatio: \"Worse. Look at those emblems.\"\n\nShe pointed at badges that had the art of three towering spires that reach to a purple sky. The emblems were roughly made, but the purple sky was the only thing of color and detail.\n\nIratus: “You think these men are from Purple City?”\n\nVenatio: \"Only one way to find out.\"\n\nThe old fox woman started to talk to the ink-skinned man.\n\nVenatio (translated): \"Testing, testing, is this your language?\"\n\nHuman (Translated): \"Vile creature, you won't get away with this!\"\n\nVenatio (translated): \"First try. Now then, your shoulder looks pretty bad.\"\n\nHuman (translated): \"Shut up and just kill me, demon.\"\n\nVenatio (translated): \"Fallen angel? Demon? Call me what you like, but you need stitches.\"\n\nHuman (translated): \"Are you still talking you dog slut? Just shut up.\"\n\nThe old fox woman continued to wear a smile; any sense anyone could pick up was an unflappable spirit.\n\nVenatio (translated): \"You need some disinfectant, some stitches, and if the bullet is still inside of you, some metal pliers shoved into that hole.\"\n\nThe human began to yell out other various slurs for women.\n\n---\n\nChapter 733\n\nSalvos and Iter began to pull away the two bodies while the others stood around listening to a conversation they could not understand. Iratus could see in the corner of his eye, Iter rifled through the dead men’s pockets, though Iratus turned away, fur bristling at the grim sight of real death.\n\nMalignitas scoffed, his one good eye gleaming with disdain.\n\nMalignitas: \"Do we even need to keep this guy alive?\"\n\nIratus: \"We can't kill a wounded man. He is at our mercy.\"\n\nMalignitas: \"Your mercy is wasted on these skin people.\"\n\nDeficio: \"Doing the right thing demands sacrifice.\" He said solemnly. \"Even if it makes things harder for us, the one true word commands non-retaliation.\"\n\nMalignitas: \"Priest man, always got a sermon ready. But when he's killing one of us, don't say I didn't warn you.\"\n\nDeficio: \"The first head priest did once say that if you do not own a sword, you should sell your cloak to buy one, but even when he was assaulted by the Silverbloods, he did not fight back and allowed them to beat him within an inch of his life.\"\n\nThe one-eyed feline flicked his tail in annoyance.\n\nMalignitas: \"Who the silver hell cares? This guy is going to end up killing someone if we don't put it down.\"\n\nDeficio: \"We must trust that his soul will change with the power of love and kindness.\"\n\nMalignitas threw up his hands, exasperation dripping from his voice.\n\nMalignitas: \"For the love of my salvation, I can’t believe this! Whatever, let a would-be murderer go free you stupid religious zealots.\"\n\n---\n\nChapter 734\n\nThe human started to fight back against Venatio's medical procedure since he wasn't really restrained. Deficio came around and physically held him down by grabbing his other shoulder.\n\nDeficio (translated): \"I hear you keep asking for death. I can offer last rites if you are so gung-ho, as you humans say, to die.\"\n\nVenatio was stunned in surprise, as were a few of the others who noticed what was going on. The human turned away but stayed put long enough for Venatio to finish fixing up his shoulder. The man was let go afterwards with the guns and supplies his group came with minus the ammo.\n\nVenatio: \"Hopefully this good deed comes around for us.\"\n\nMalignitas: \"These guys opened fire on us without warning, and no, I didn't do anything to scare them; they just started to sneak up on the house.\"\n\nIter: \"Your point being?\"\n\nMalignitas: \"Those people are killers at heart. Your kindness will never bear fruit.\"\n\nVenatio: \"Killer eyes are not universal. Those were not the eyes of a killer, but of someone fighting any monster here in the Nexus Prime.\"\n\nDeficio: \"Love in the face of violence often tears down hatred. You'll see, maybe not soon, but someday.\"\n\nMalignitas: \"Sure. I'm going back inside to get some sleep.\"\n\nAs the one-eyed cat left for the house, as well as most of the others, Iratus turned to Venatio.\n\nIratus: \"War is failure to society. Sometimes change, even for the greater good, only comes at such a cost. If the AI is as smart as it boasted, then what if the only way forward is war?\"\n\nVenatio: \"A grim reality for sure, but when the first shots are fired, we will merely have to be better at killing the enemy. Here, this is the only way it can be stopped. If they refuse our mercy, then we can stop holding back.\"\n\n---\n\nChapter 735\n\nThe day would come soon enough with everyone waking up. Instead of continuing forward, the group stayed for a few extra days to loot a nearby town, a small medieval-looking thing with primitive tools and fresh lumber lying around. Confodere and Salvos offered to take the loot back to the tower.\n\nSalvos: \"I also worry about the girls back home. Most of them are not physically at their best since their pregnancies or recent births.\"\n\nIratus: \"I see your point.\"\n\nAnd with that, the hyena man and wolf man left the group and headed back to the tower.\n\nOnce the group was ready again, they headed east again for many days. On the road, they discovered a fallen city, mostly in ruin, with nature nearly finishing devouring it, with several collapsed skyscrapers being the only thing worth noting.\n\nVenatio: \"I don't see any treeskins. I guess this was a very old place in here, or its ruined form was how it was summoned.\"\n\nIratus: \"I feel dizzy looking at those tall buildings. God.\"\n\nAnother location they came across was a ruined space station that looked like it had a crash landing with it being buried in a crater. The group took a brief look around and couldn't really salvage anything.\n\nIter: \"Eh? This is the Manual One. Dang, the Nexus Prime did not treat it right.\"\n\nIratus: \"You mean these space buildings existed in your time? I thought you needed some serious advanced technology to make them.\"\n\nIter: \"Oh, sweet child.\"\n\nThe next day was yet another location that surprised the group. An expanse of tall, crystalline trees that shimmed and refracted the sunlight, creating brilliant rainbow patterns on the ground.\n\nDeficio: \"By which planet did these things even come from?\"\n\nIratus: \"It's like some sort of magic.\"\n\nDeficio: \"Unlikely. Just another scientific wonder created by the Almighty that exists for us to understand.\"\n\n---\n\nChapter 736\n\nThere were many interesting locations discovered just along the road. an abandoned coliseum, an obsidian wall, a marketplace from stalls and wears from dozens of different planets, all stitched together.\n\nMalignitas: \"Jewels! All mine!\"\n\nDeficio: \"Spices! And they don't even look expired. I prayed to God that he would deliver me good-tasting food, and he delivered. God be praised, God be praised.\"\n\nIratus: \"I thought our food tasted pretty good already.\"\n\nMalignitas: \"Yes, but only when we have the proper ingredients. This stuff here, before it was commonplace in my time, a war was raged for spices, and at least ten thousand people died for them too.\"\n\nIratus: \"Now you have my attention.\"\n\nThere were still yet more locations the group found. A vast, flat desert of white salt stretching as far as the eye can see, dotted with eerie, skeletal remains of long-dead creatures and vehicles, half-buried in the salt. A massive, ancient gateway standing alone in the middle of the road, its stone frame cracked and weathered. Then, many days later, the group arrived at a sign that read yet another foreign language.\n\nDeficio: \"Purple City.\"\n\nNow it was day 151, and the group sat around a nearby campsite to rest for an hour.\n\nIratus: \"Yeah, you really need to tell us how you know these people's language.\"\n\nDeficio: \"Languages. It is a long story because I had to travel a lot just to get here.\"\n\nMalignitas: \"And all in vain.\"\n\nDeficio: \"I may have lost my church, or at least a copy of it, but I feel like I am meant to be here with this group. But like I said, I traveled a lot and traveled with many people. I picked up a few Earth languages and a few other alien languages as well.\"\n\nVenatio had raised an eyebrow every time the priest mentioned his travels or his church, but now she lost her posture as she responded to the priest.\n\nVenatio: \"It takes a lot of time to learn so many languages. How long were you down here again?\"\n\nDeficio: \"I assure you, I learn each of them with diligent study. I kind of had to with all the different people around.\"\n\nThe old fox woman gave a sigh and stopped asking questions.\n\n---\n\nChapter 737\n\nAs the group was about to enter the city, they saw Musheer, Astrid the nixman, and Greg, the merchants that once stopped at Iratus's tower. The two groups recognized each other and excitedly got to catching up with Greg, trying to stay out of the conversations as he was always one not to exactly like talking to folk.\n\nAstrid: \"We were just about to head back to your tower.\"\n\nThe conversation continued.\n\nMusheer: \"No bandits or monsters the entire time.\"\n\nMalignitas: \"I guess it's just our cursed luck then.\"\n\nEventually, the conversation started getting serious.\n\nAstrid: \"Wait, you can't be serious. You guys are going up there?\"\n\nIter: \"Yup.\"\n\nAstrid: \"Do you have any idea who these people are?\"\n\nIter: \"We sure do.\"\n\nAstrid: \"Out of a sense of... being a good person, you should not go in there.\"\n\nIter: \"That would be common sense, yes.\"\n\nAstrid: \"So you'll stay away from there?\"\n\nIter: \"No.\"\n\nThe nixman gave a sigh and gave a face palm.\n\nAstrid: \"Just don't die.\"\n\nIratus: \"They let you go.\"\n\nAstrid: \"Like, it feels like they are good people, but once other aliens come up in the topic, they get angry. Worse, near the city is a large hole where they tossed a lot of folk people bodies in.\"\n\nIratus's group started to have their fur raised in alarm.\n\nAstrid: \"We found out and immediately wanted to leave, and these human things seemed to dismiss any wrong doing. They had many reasons, mostly self-defense, but it never felt like they ever gave the whole story.\"\n\nMalignitas: \"And you call them good people?\"\n\nAstrid: \"I've only been met with kindness. They have similar views to you guys in how you conduct yourselves, being honest and trusting. It's just that they don't seem phased by talking bad about folk kind. They also seemed very troubled and concerned for my safety as a wanderer and merchant of the roads. They offered me a lot to stay and be safe within their walls; again, I only saw honest concern for my safety, but I of course turned the offer down.\"\n\nMusheer: \"They made us a similar offer, though Astrid's was more generous. We were still expected to labor and serve before we could share equally in their provisions and shelter.\"\n\n---\n\nChapter 738\n\nOnce the merchants left, Iratus's group continued ahead and entered Purple City.\n\nThe skyline of Purple City was a hodgepodge of architectural styles. Skyscrapers and mid-rise buildings from New York, Tokyo, and Dubai stand side by side, sometimes fused at awkward angles. Hypermodern glass towers with curved, futuristic designs are juxtaposed against classic brick buildings and retro-futuristic designs. Construction cranes dot the skyline as the city seemed to be constantly expanding back on actual Earth.\n\nStreets were a random combination of different cities' layouts. One block might feature a European-style plaza with narrow cobblestone streets, while the next looked like a gridlocked highway from Los Angeles. Street signs were just as mismatched, with different languages and numbering systems.\n\nDeficio: \"Okay, not even I know all these words.\"\n\nVenatio: \"I don't even know all of them either.\"\n\nIratus: \"Even I can tell that there are multiple cultures all stitched together here. What the silver hell is this place?\"\n\nThe group came across a district where almost every building is adorned in varying shades of purple. Apartment buildings, storefronts, and even streetlamps glow faintly in this distinctive hue. This district is the city's administrative hub, with the mayor's office, police headquarters, and other essential services located here, as well as makeshift walls and barricades from the settlement that lived here.\n\nIter: \"Looks like we need to find the front door if we are to introduce ourselves properly.\"\n\nMalignitas: \"Let's sneak around just in case.\"\n\nThe group would find tunnels into the subway system, only to find each one blocked off one way or another. The settlement clearly knew how to defend the city. Iratus and the others eventually found a separated section of the city where the main gate or front entrance was. Despite everything, Purple City had widespread street art, with massive murals covering buildings, often depicting dystopian or surreal landscapes from either Earth, the original inhabitants, the current inhabitants, or any combination.\n\n---\n\nChapter 739\n\nA spattering of lumber and woodwork was what the gate looked like, and while it didn't look safe to stand on, it seemed functional at least. Several guards came out to greet Iratus's group. Iratus and the others only wore gambeson to this meeting except Venatio in what she called her doctor outfit and carrying two cases of various medical aid.\n\nVenatio: \"We went over the plan, but it changed a few times. How are we doing this?\"\n\nIratus: \"There is no use hiding our identity. Tell them the truth.\"\n\nThe fox woman nodded and turned to the approaching guards, each one wearing various gear from what could be found in a modern mall and using it as weapons and armor.\n\nVenatio (translated): \"Greetings man things. We are your neighbors, and we have come to trade.\"\n\nOne of the human guards took off his helmet and revealed his gruff but still young face, blonde hair, and light beard.\n\nHuman with Beard: \"Is that so?\"\n\nA few of the other humans gave a chuckle.\n\nDeficio was translating everything that was being said.\n\nVenatio (translated): \"I can trade my medical skills to aid anyone who is hurt, sick, or just needs to be looked at.\"\n\nOnce the preist translated, the one-eyed cat turned to Iratus.\n\nMalignitas: \"Wait, is she an actual medic? I thought she was some sort of scientist, right?\"\n\nIratus: \"I think she has some proficiency in medicine. You saw her patch up that one guy; she even took out the bullet with those big tweezers.\"\n\nVenatio and the humans started to walk over to the carts, with Deficio getting the others attention.\n\nDeficio: \"Look alive; put on your best merchant impression.\"\n\n---\n\nChapter 740\n\nA few more humans looked over the loot Iratus's group gathered along the way, plus a few other items from his tower.\n\nDeficio: \"Hm, they seem disappointed.\"\n\nMalignitas: \"If only you had that ant girl's rifle of that silver lantern.\"\n\nIratus: \"Come on, it was a bit of a panic situation. It isn't like I can go back to that strange tower and grab those items.\"\n\nMalignitas: \"That's what I am saying, idiot.\"\n\nAs the humans browsed the items and talked with Venatio, two more humans came out of the gate. A well-dressed man with black hair and a short, kept beard, and the inky black-skinned human.\n\nThe well-dressed human was filled in on the situation before going over to Iratus's group.\n\nWell-dressed human (translated): \"You are the people who got into a shootout with my men, correct?\"\n\nVenatio (translated): \"I guess we are.\"\n\nWell-dressed human (translated): \"So you admit to killing two of my soldiers?\"\n\nVenatio (translated): \"Your men shot at us while we were sleeping.\"\n\nWell-dressed human (translated): \"Since you admit to your crime, you must now pay the consequences.\"\n\nVenatio (translated): \"They are the aggressors. I even fixed up that man's shoulder over there.\"\n\nThe well-dressed human pulled out a rather large pistol and aimed it at Venatio's head, whom Iratus can sense not a single bit of fear from, as if The dull ache of being awoken early mixed with gunfire ringing around him. Bullets ricocheted off the walls, and he shook off the fog in time to see Confodere grab an old rifle and press himself against the wall by the window. From her loft above, Venatio shouted orders.

Venatio: "We need to surround them. Head out the back!"

The wolfman nodded his head and headed for the back door, with Malignitas and Iter following. Iratus was pinned down by the hail of gunfire, with Deficio looking quite fine where he was, even though a hint of a scowl was on his face. The lion priest unwrapped his hand, and his metallic cyberarm opened. Iratus almost forgot the cyberarm that Deficio had with the priest flicking his arm, and when the enemies outside stopped, most likely to reload, Deficio and Confodere fired back.

Confodere’s bolt-action rifle was slow, but his aim was precise. One loud crack followed his triumphant shout.

Confodere: "Got one!"

Iratus scrambled to the window just in time to see another figure collapse, struck by Deficio’s shot. One enemy remained, and they fired a fresh volley into the cabin, forcing everyone to dive for cover again. Confodere gripped his rifle, a look of focused determination crossing his face.

Confodere: "Any second now..."

Another bullet whizzed through the cabin, and then, with deliberate calm, Confodere stepped up to the window, sighted down his iron sights, and squeezed the trigger.

---

Chapter 732

Iratus led the group outside, where the others were busy securing their wounded enemies.

Iter: "You saved us from getting shot. Thank you."

Malignitas: "Looks like you’re the best shot around."

Confodere, the stoic hyena man, gave them a wordless thumbs up.

Iratus: "Hey, who has been shooting us?"

One of the fallen, an older human man, had leathery skin baked from years in the sun, his scraggly beard matching the sun-bleached strands of hair. Beside him lay a nixman, with skin-tinged purple, pointy ears, and the stark white hair typical of his kind. Both were dead. The last figure, another human, wore thick, gambeson-like armor. His dark skin was so deep it almost looked like ink in the dim light. A shot had torn through his shoulder, leaving the blue and white padding shredded.

Iratus: "Skin things."

Venatio's eyes narrowed as she inspected the men, then pointed at the crudely made badges.

Venatio: "Worse. Look at those emblems."

She pointed at badges that had the art of three towering spires that reach to a purple sky. The emblems were roughly made, but the purple sky was the only thing of color and detail.

Iratus: “You think these men are from Purple City?”

Venatio: "Only one way to find out."

The old fox woman started to talk to the ink-skinned man.

Venatio (translated): "Testing, testing, is this your language?"

Human (Translated): "Vile creature, you won't get away with this!"

Venatio (translated): "First try. Now then, your shoulder looks pretty bad."

Human (translated): "Shut up and just kill me, demon."

Venatio (translated): "Fallen angel? Demon? Call me what you like, but you need stitches."

Human (translated): "Are you still talking you dog slut? Just shut up."

The old fox woman continued to wear a smile; any sense anyone could pick up was an unflappable spirit.

Venatio (translated): "You need some disinfectant, some stitches, and if the bullet is still inside of you, some metal pliers shoved into that hole."

The human began to yell out other various slurs for women.

---

Chapter 733

Salvos and Iter began to pull away the two bodies while the others stood around listening to a conversation they could not understand. Iratus could see in the corner of his eye, Iter rifled through the dead men’s pockets, though Iratus turned away, fur bristling at the grim sight of real death.

Malignitas scoffed, his one good eye gleaming with disdain.

Malignitas: "Do we even need to keep this guy alive?"

Iratus: "We can't kill a wounded man. He is at our mercy."

Malignitas: "Your mercy is wasted on these skin people."

Deficio: "Doing the right thing demands sacrifice." He said solemnly. "Even if it makes things harder for us, the one true word commands non-retaliation."

Malignitas: "Priest man, always got a sermon ready. But when he's killing one of us, don't say I didn't warn you."

Deficio: "The first head priest did once say that if you do not own a sword, you should sell your cloak to buy one, but even when he was assaulted by the Silverbloods, he did not fight back and allowed them to beat him within an inch of his life."

The one-eyed feline flicked his tail in annoyance.

Malignitas: "Who the silver hell cares? This guy is going to end up killing someone if we don't put it down."

Deficio: "We must trust that his soul will change with the power of love and kindness."

Malignitas threw up his hands, exasperation dripping from his voice.

Malignitas: "For the love of my salvation, I can’t believe this! Whatever, let a would-be murderer go free you stupid religious zealots."

---

Chapter 734

The human started to fight back against Venatio's medical procedure since he wasn't really restrained. Deficio came around and physically held him down by grabbing his other shoulder.

Deficio (translated): "I hear you keep asking for death. I can offer last rites if you are so gung-ho, as you humans say, to die."

Venatio was stunned in surprise, as were a few of the others who noticed what was going on. The human turned away but stayed put long enough for Venatio to finish fixing up his shoulder. The man was let go afterwards with the guns and supplies his group came with minus the ammo.

Venatio: "Hopefully this good deed comes around for us."

Malignitas: "These guys opened fire on us without warning, and no, I didn't do anything to scare them; they just started to sneak up on the house."

Iter: "Your point being?"

Malignitas: "Those people are killers at heart. Your kindness will never bear fruit."

Venatio: "Killer eyes are not universal. Those were not the eyes of a killer, but of someone fighting any monster here in the Nexus Prime."

Deficio: "Love in the face of violence often tears down hatred. You'll see, maybe not soon, but someday."

Malignitas: "Sure. I'm going back inside to get some sleep."

As the one-eyed cat left for the house, as well as most of the others, Iratus turned to Venatio.

Iratus: "War is failure to society. Sometimes change, even for the greater good, only comes at such a cost. If the AI is as smart as it boasted, then what if the only way forward is war?"

Venatio: "A grim reality for sure, but when the first shots are fired, we will merely have to be better at killing the enemy. Here, this is the only way it can be stopped. If they refuse our mercy, then we can stop holding back."

---

Chapter 735

The day would come soon enough with everyone waking up. Instead of continuing forward, the group stayed for a few extra days to loot a nearby town, a small medieval-looking thing with primitive tools and fresh lumber lying around. Confodere and Salvos offered to take the loot back to the tower.

Salvos: "I also worry about the girls back home. Most of them are not physically at their best since their pregnancies or recent births."

Iratus: "I see your point."

And with that, the hyena man and wolf man left the group and headed back to the tower.

Once the group was ready again, they headed east again for many days. On the road, they discovered a fallen city, mostly in ruin, with nature nearly finishing devouring it, with several collapsed skyscrapers being the only thing worth noting.

Venatio: "I don't see any treeskins. I guess this was a very old place in here, or its ruined form was how it was summoned."

Iratus: "I feel dizzy looking at those tall buildings. God."

Another location they came across was a ruined space station that looked like it had a crash landing with it being buried in a crater. The group took a brief look around and couldn't really salvage anything.

Iter: "Eh? This is the Manual One. Dang, the Nexus Prime did not treat it right."

Iratus: "You mean these space buildings existed in your time? I thought you needed some serious advanced technology to make them."

Iter: "Oh, sweet child."

The next day was yet another location that surprised the group. An expanse of tall, crystalline trees that shimmed and refracted the sunlight, creating brilliant rainbow patterns on the ground.

Deficio: "By which planet did these things even come from?"

Iratus: "It's like some sort of magic."

Deficio: "Unlikely. Just another scientific wonder created by the Almighty that exists for us to understand."

---

Chapter 736

There were many interesting locations discovered just along the road. an abandoned coliseum, an obsidian wall, a marketplace from stalls and wears from dozens of different planets, all stitched together.

Malignitas: "Jewels! All mine!"

Deficio: "Spices! And they don't even look expired. I prayed to God that he would deliver me good-tasting food, and he delivered. God be praised, God be praised."

Iratus: "I thought our food tasted pretty good already."

Malignitas: "Yes, but only when we have the proper ingredients. This stuff here, before it was commonplace in my time, a war was raged for spices, and at least ten thousand people died for them too."

Iratus: "Now you have my attention."

There were still yet more locations the group found. A vast, flat desert of white salt stretching as far as the eye can see, dotted with eerie, skeletal remains of long-dead creatures and vehicles, half-buried in the salt. A massive, ancient gateway standing alone in the middle of the road, its stone frame cracked and weathered. Then, many days later, the group arrived at a sign that read yet another foreign language.

Deficio: "Purple City."

Now it was day 151, and the group sat around a nearby campsite to rest for an hour.

Iratus: "Yeah, you really need to tell us how you know these people's language."

Deficio: "Languages. It is a long story because I had to travel a lot just to get here."

Malignitas: "And all in vain."

Deficio: "I may have lost my church, or at least a copy of it, but I feel like I am meant to be here with this group. But like I said, I traveled a lot and traveled with many people. I picked up a few Earth languages and a few other alien languages as well."

Venatio had raised an eyebrow every time the priest mentioned his travels or his church, but now she lost her posture as she responded to the priest.

Venatio: "It takes a lot of time to learn so many languages. How long were you down here again?"

Deficio: "I assure you, I learn each of them with diligent study. I kind of had to with all the different people around."

The old fox woman gave a sigh and stopped asking questions.

---

Chapter 737

As the group was about to enter the city, they saw Musheer, Astrid the nixman, and Greg, the merchants that once stopped at Iratus's tower. The two groups recognized each other and excitedly got to catching up with Greg, trying to stay out of the conversations as he was always one not to exactly like talking to folk.

Astrid: "We were just about to head back to your tower."

The conversation continued.

Musheer: "No bandits or monsters the entire time."

Malignitas: "I guess it's just our cursed luck then."

Eventually, the conversation started getting serious.

Astrid: "Wait, you can't be serious. You guys are going up there?"

Iter: "Yup."

Astrid: "Do you have any idea who these people are?"

Iter: "We sure do."

Astrid: "Out of a sense of... being a good person, you should not go in there."

Iter: "That would be common sense, yes."

Astrid: "So you'll stay away from there?"

Iter: "No."

The nixman gave a sigh and gave a face palm.

Astrid: "Just don't die."

Iratus: "They let you go."

Astrid: "Like, it feels like they are good people, but once other aliens come up in the topic, they get angry. Worse, near the city is a large hole where they tossed a lot of folk people bodies in."

Iratus's group started to have their fur raised in alarm.

Astrid: "We found out and immediately wanted to leave, and these human things seemed to dismiss any wrong doing. They had many reasons, mostly self-defense, but it never felt like they ever gave the whole story."

Malignitas: "And you call them good people?"

Astrid: "I've only been met with kindness. They have similar views to you guys in how you conduct yourselves, being honest and trusting. It's just that they don't seem phased by talking bad about folk kind. They also seemed very troubled and concerned for my safety as a wanderer and merchant of the roads. They offered me a lot to stay and be safe within their walls; again, I only saw honest concern for my safety, but I of course turned the offer down."

Musheer: "They made us a similar offer, though Astrid's was more generous. We were still expected to labor and serve before we could share equally in their provisions and shelter."

---

Chapter 738

Once the merchants left, Iratus's group continued ahead and entered Purple City.

The skyline of Purple City was a hodgepodge of architectural styles. Skyscrapers and mid-rise buildings from New York, Tokyo, and Dubai stand side by side, sometimes fused at awkward angles. Hypermodern glass towers with curved, futuristic designs are juxtaposed against classic brick buildings and retro-futuristic designs. Construction cranes dot the skyline as the city seemed to be constantly expanding back on actual Earth.

Streets were a random combination of different cities' layouts. One block might feature a European-style plaza with narrow cobblestone streets, while the next looked like a gridlocked highway from Los Angeles. Street signs were just as mismatched, with different languages and numbering systems.

Deficio: "Okay, not even I know all these words."

Venatio: "I don't even know all of them either."

Iratus: "Even I can tell that there are multiple cultures all stitched together here. What the silver hell is this place?"

The group came across a district where almost every building is adorned in varying shades of purple. Apartment buildings, storefronts, and even streetlamps glow faintly in this distinctive hue. This district is the city's administrative hub, with the mayor's office, police headquarters, and other essential services located here, as well as makeshift walls and barricades from the settlement that lived here.

Iter: "Looks like we need to find the front door if we are to introduce ourselves properly."

Malignitas: "Let's sneak around just in case."

The group would find tunnels into the subway system, only to find each one blocked off one way or another. The settlement clearly knew how to defend the city. Iratus and the others eventually found a separated section of the city where the main gate or front entrance was. Despite everything, Purple City had widespread street art, with massive murals covering buildings, often depicting dystopian or surreal landscapes from either Earth, the original inhabitants, the current inhabitants, or any combination.

---

Chapter 739

A spattering of lumber and woodwork was what the gate looked like, and while it didn't look safe to stand on, it seemed functional at least. Several guards came out to greet Iratus's group. Iratus and the others only wore gambeson to this meeting except Venatio in what she called her doctor outfit and carrying two cases of various medical aid.

Venatio: "We went over the plan, but it changed a few times. How are we doing this?"

Iratus: "There is no use hiding our identity. Tell them the truth."

The fox woman nodded and turned to the approaching guards, each one wearing various gear from what could be found in a modern mall and using it as weapons and armor.

Venatio (translated): "Greetings man things. We are your neighbors, and we have come to trade."

One of the human guards took off his helmet and revealed his gruff but still young face, blonde hair, and light beard.

Human with Beard: "Is that so?"

A few of the other humans gave a chuckle.

Deficio was translating everything that was being said.

Venatio (translated): "I can trade my medical skills to aid anyone who is hurt, sick, or just needs to be looked at."

Once the preist translated, the one-eyed cat turned to Iratus.

Malignitas: "Wait, is she an actual medic? I thought she was some sort of scientist, right?"

Iratus: "I think she has some proficiency in medicine. You saw her patch up that one guy; she even took out the bullet with those big tweezers."

Venatio and the humans started to walk over to the carts, with Deficio getting the others attention.

Deficio: "Look alive; put on your best merchant impression."

---

Chapter 740

A few more humans looked over the loot Iratus's group gathered along the way, plus a few other items from his tower.

Deficio: "Hm, they seem disappointed."

Malignitas: "If only you had that ant girl's rifle of that silver lantern."

Iratus: "Come on, it was a bit of a panic situation. It isn't like I can go back to that strange tower and grab those items."

Malignitas: "That's what I am saying, idiot."

As the humans browsed the items and talked with Venatio, two more humans came out of the gate. A well-dressed man with black hair and a short, kept beard, and the inky black-skinned human.

The well-dressed human was filled in on the situation before going over to Iratus's group.

Well-dressed human (translated): "You are the people who got into a shootout with my men, correct?"

Venatio (translated): "I guess we are."

Well-dressed human (translated): "So you admit to killing two of my soldiers?"

Venatio (translated): "Your men shot at us while we were sleeping."

Well-dressed human (translated): "Since you admit to your crime, you must now pay the consequences."

Venatio (translated): "They are the aggressors. I even fixed up that man's shoulder over there."

The well-dressed human pulled out a rather large pistol and aimed it at Venatio's head, whom Iratus can sense not a single bit of fear from, as if she were confident she would not die here.

Venatio (translated): "Seems strange to go out of your way to kill a doctor and one that is willing to provide a service to your people."

The well-dressed human gave a smirk before firing his gun.

---

EPISDOE 74: END

---

Episode 74 End Character
