>Jake (8) is at the doctor's office, finishing a routine checkup. >He sat quietly on the table while the doctor and his mother talked. >"Well everything looks good to me. Jake seems perfectly healthy and up-to-date on his shots." >"That's good to hear." >"I do have one more question though: Is he still having the bed-wetting problems?" >"Yes. We've tried a few different things to help with that, but we haven't had much success. For now we just let him wear diapers to bed." >Jake blushed and sunk his head. >His mom continued, "Do you have anything else that might help with that?" >"Unfortunately no, but I did recently have another patient with the same problem. His parents were wondering if I knew any other kids who also wet the bed, who might be interested in being friends with their son." >Jake perked up. Another bedwetter? He had never met another kid that wets the bed before. >The doctor kept talking, "I think they're just looking for someone that their son can relate to. You know, make him realize he's not the only one that has to deal with it." >"Well that sounds kind of nice. What do you think, Jake?" >He was a little nervous, but interested. He had spent so long keeping all of this a secret. It would be nice to have someone he could talk to about it, someone who goes through it too and knows what it's like. >"Yeah, that sounds good." >The doctor responded, "Do you want me to give your mom his phone number?" >"Yeah!" >"Alright, I'll go get it and meet you guys at the front. You're all good to go!" >Jake hopped down from the table and walked with his mom to the meeting area. >The doctor gave his mom a piece of paper with the other kid's contact info. >They said their goodbyes and went home. Mom gave the other family a call and they agreed to set up a playdate for their boys. ... >A few days later, Jake and his mom go over to visit the other family. >After some quick introductions, Jake finally gets to meet the other boy. >His mother introduces him, "This is my son, Ben." >He waves at Jake and his mom, "Hi." >Jake waves back, "Hey, I'm Jake." >Ben's mom chimes in, "Why don't you boys go play while us moms have a chat?" >Ben motions to Jake, "Come on!" >Jake hops off the couch and follows Ben to his room. >When they go inside, he notices the smell of stale pee in the air. >It's almost the same as how his room smells. >Ben turns around. >"So what do you want to play with? Do you like Legos?" >"Yeah!" >Ben gets down on his hands and knees, then reaches under the bed and pulls out a tub. >It's full of Legos. Jake was amazed. >"Woah, where did you get so many?" >Ben grins, "I've been collecting them forever. Birthdays, Christmases, and just mom and dad buying them for me." >He tips the tub over and spills all the pieces into the floor. >Jake sits down and they both start building. ... >The two boys sit and play together for a while, talking and getting to know each other. >So far, it seems like they are hitting it off pretty well. >Eventually, Ben gets up, "Hang on, I gotta use the bathroom." >As he runs out of the room, Jake gets up and looks around. >Ben has a lot of neat stuff in his room. >Lots of toys on his shelves. Everything in the room is his, and he doesn't have to share with anyone. >Jake felt a little jealous considering he has to share a room with his older brother. >But something else was on his mind. Something they haven't talked about yet. >Jake walks over to Ben's bed. It's all made up nice and neat, but there's something he wants to see. >He pulls back the comforter to look at the sheets underneath. >Just as he thought, they're covered in stains. >Then he hears a gasp from behind him. >Ben was standing in the doorway with his hand over his mouth. >Jake turns around, "Oh, um, hey! It's okay!" He had a shy grin on his face and felt nervous. "I do it too, remember?" >Ben looked equally as nervous as he lowers his hand. "Oh, yeah... I'm just not used to anyone knowing about it." >"Well, it's okay isn't it? I mean, we both do it." >Both boys were pretty shy about admitting that to each other. >"I've never told anyone else I wet the bed before." >Jake giggles "Well you're the first person I've told too, unless you count my friend Joseph." >"Wait, you have other friends that know?" >"Just one, but me and Joseph have been best friends since forever. We were sleeping over together before I even knew I was a bedwetter." >Ben gasps, "You've had sleepovers!? Aw man, I've always wanted to go to one, but I can't because I'll pee the bed." >"Well, me and you could have one if you want." Jake smiles, "I already know." >Ben's eyes light up and a huge smile spreads across his face. He turns around and runs down the hall. >Jake takes off running behind him. >The two mothers were sitting in the living room chatting as they saw their boys come running in. >Ben's mom is caught off-guard as he runs up to her >"Mom! Mom! Can Jake spend the night? Please?" >"Uh, sure, if it's okay with his mom." >Jake's mom looks at him, "Do you want to stay over?" >"Yeah! It'll be fun!" >She shrugs, "Well, I'm okay with it then." >Both boys hugs their moms. >"Thank you!" >As they let go, Jake and Ben turn back to each other, then run back to Ben's room to play. ... >Jake's mom had to go home to pack him a bag. >When she arrived back at Ben's house, she handed it off to her son. >"Are you sure you want to stay over tonight?" >"Yeah! Me and Ben are having fun." >"Okay, just wanted to make sure. Now be good, listen to Ben's mom, and remember to get changed before you start getting tired." >"I will." >Jake's mom gives him a hug. >"Have fun tonight. Call me if you need anything." >She gets back in her car and begins waving goodbye. >Jake waves back at her as she pulls away. ... >Later in the evening, Jake and Ben are sitting at the dinner table. >Ben's mom had ordered pizza for them. >They each had a few slices and some soda to wash it down. >Ben's mom walked back into the dining room, "You guys done eating?" >"Uh-huh." >"Yeah, I'm stuffed." >"Alright. Well it's starting to get dark out, I think you guys should go get your pajamas on." >The moment of truth has arrived. Jake feels a little nervous, but he knows his new friend will understand. >He grabs his bag and heads to the bathroom. >After shutting the door behind him, he pulls out his diaper and a bottle of baby powder. >He unfolds the diaper and lays it on the ground. >Then he pulls down his pants and underwear and kicks them off to the corner. >He stands in front of the toilet and tries to pee, just to make sure he wont need to go later. >A light stream comes out, but it's not long before he's done. >He flushes and then sits down on top of the diaper. >He lays back and spreads his legs, then sprinkles some powder on his bottom and his private bits. >Then he pulls the front of the diaper through his legs and tapes it on. >Now that he's all changed and ready for bed, he stands back up, grabs the powder bottle and his clothes, and puts them back in his bag. >He stands in front of the door and hesitates for a moment, but then he takes a deep breath and opens it. >He grabs his bag and walks down the hallway to Ben's room, then knocks on the door. >"Can I come in yet?" >"Yeah, it's fine." >Jake opens the door and walks inside. Ben is sitting in the floor watching TV and wearing a two-piece pajama set. >Ben turns his head to see him enter, but then he begins to stare. He has a confused expression on his face. >"Uh... Is that a diaper?" >"Well... Yeah?" Jake stops and feels confused. >"Don't you wear them too?" >Ben snorts and begins to chuckle "No! I didn't even know they made them that big." >Jake felt his heart drop in his chest. He pulls his shirt down to try to hide his diaper. >"But- ... Uh- ... I mean- ... Well then what do you wear so you don't pee the bed!?" >"I just wear my pajamas." >"But don't you pee right through them?" >"Well, yeah, but my mom washes my sheets and my pajamas after I get up in the morning. She doesn't make me wear diapers or anything like that." >Tears began to well up in Jake's eyes. He turns his head away and tries to tug his shirt down even further. >Ben gets up and places his hand on Jake's shoulder. >"Hey, it's okay, I'm not trying to make fun of you or anything. It's just..." he began to chuckle again "...I've never seen a kid my age wearing a diaper before." >Jake sniffs and wipes his eyes. "You're not gonna tell anyone are you?" >"I won't tell. I promise." >Ben pats him on the back. Jake lifts his head and sees Ben smiling back at him. >"You okay now?" >"Yeah." >"Wanna go watch cartoons?" >"Okay." >Jake was beginning to calm down; he just wanted to move past this. The two of them walk back to their spot in front of the TV, but Jake couldn't help but notice how much his diaper was crinkling with every step. >As he sits down, a puff of white dust shoots out the back of it. Ben sees it and recognizes the smell. >"Baby powder?" >"Uh... it's so I don't get a rash." >Ben covers his mouth giggles a little, but tries to hide it to spare Jake some more embarassment. >Finally they could sit and relax and just watch TV. >But Ben can't keep himself from taking glances at Jake's diaper. >"Hey Jake... what's it like to still wear diapers?" >"Uhh, what do you mean?" >"Like, I guess you've used one before, right?" >"Well yeah, I pee in one almost every night." >Ben glances away and begins to grin, then he looks back at Jake. >"...Ever pooped in one before?" >"Eww, no!" >Ben begins to laugh, "Why not?" >"Because that's gross! Plus I don't need to. I only wear them so I don't wet the bed." >Ben leans back and looks up at the ceiling, "I dunno, I think if I had to wear them, it would be neat to not have to worry about using the bathroom." >"Well my mom wouldn't think it's neat." >"Why? Does she change your diapers?" >Jake's eyes widen and he blushes. He doesn't want to admit that she sometimes does. >"I-I can change myself! Look, can we talk about something else?" >"Yeah, okay, sorry." >The boys go back to watching TV. >As the night wears on, they both begin to get tired and decide that it's time to hit the sack. >Ben climbs into his bed, while Jake slides into the sleeping bag next to it. ... >The next morning, Jake opens his eyes to see Ben pulling the sheets off his bed. >There's a big wet spot on the seat of his pajamas, running down his legs too. >Ben turns his head and sees Jake watching him. >"Oh! Um... hey." >He stands still and looks around while holding his wet sheets. >"D-did you have an accident too?" >Jake looks inside the sleeping bag and presses a finger against his diaper. It's warm and squishy. >"Yeah. I'm wet." >Ben relaxes and begins to smile, "Guess both of us really are bedwetters, huh?" >Jake sits up and smiles back at him. >"Need help with your sheets?" >"If you want to, yeah." >Jake slides out of the sleeping bag and stands up. >Ben once again takes notice of Jake's diaper. It's so full now that it's beginning to sag. He watches as Jake grabs it by the sides and pulls it up around his waist. >"Do you need to go change first?" >"Nah, I'll be fine. I'll go get cleaned up after this." >Jake helps Ben get the rest of the sheets off of his bed and carry them to the laundry room. >As they dropped them into the washing machine, Ben's mom came up behind them. >"Hey Ben, I got your bath ready for you. Go wash up. And Jake, if you want to take a bath, you're welcome to join him." >The boys run to the bathroom and begin to get undressed. >They both pull their shirts off and toss them to the corner of the room. >Ben pulls down his wet pajama bottoms, while Jake sits down on the floor and rips the tapes open on his diaper. >They both hop in the bath tub and start getting cleaned up. >"Hey Jake, thanks for spending the night with me. I'm sorry I made fun of you last night, but it was really fun having you stay over." >Jake smiles. "Thanks, tt was fun for me too. Maybe you can come stay over at my house next time." >Ben likes that idea, but he has one concern. "Aren't you worried about me peeing in your bed?" >Jake's face lights up with a big cheeky grin. "I guess you'll just have to wear a diaper!" >The boys laugh and continue playing in the tub while they both wash up. >After they're all clean, Jake and Ben get out and get dried off and dressed. >They continue playing in Ben's room until Jake's mom arrives. >Jake gathers his things and gets ready to leave. >He meets Ben at the door. >"Hey, you're coming over to my house next time, right?" >Ben blushes, remembering what they talked about in the bath tub. >"Yeah, I can't wait!" >The boys hug and wave goodbye as Jake heads to his mom's car. >As he rides home, Jake is happy that he made a new friend.
