  "description": "Earlier this week, on February 20th, Mark Merlino, aka Sylys Sable, one of the important figures in the early modern furry fandom, passed away. (I'd also argue that he's pretty important for early American anime fandom as well).  It's kind of ridiculous how much stuff he did, one of which was being the director and one of the founding members of Confurence, the first furry con. \n\nYou can read more about him here: [url=https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Mark_Merlino]https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Mark_Merlino[/url]\n\n\nI never had the pleasure of meeting him, although I was aware of his contributions due to poring through scans of old conbooks and zines, but I wanted to do something to pay tribute. So I drew one of his gals, the famous Sydney Fisher/Cougar, who was also the mascot for Confurence and one of the OG pinup gals of the fandom. I wanted to channel that old 80s/90s conbook/zine style she was often drawn in.\n\nI also had to include a skiltaire.\n\nRest in peace, Sy.",
