| \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t In this story, a group of four students (Jak, Kale, Katie, and Shareal) all go to their professor's ranch home to test out a new potion designed to increase egg production in female dragons (Felaena). However, they were not prepared for the effects of said potion, and had no idea what they were getting into when they signed up for this trip. (author's note, I had to make some minor adaptations to the characters to make them fit the narrative; they're all within the parameters I was given, but I had to take some creative liberties.) =====--=--===== Agricultural Sciences “I should be in bed, sleeping next to a nice warm-scaled dragoness.” Jak complained. He and three others were in the back of a shuttle bus that was taking them from the Klyneth Academy of Science and Magic to the rural outskirts of town between Central and West Klyneth, where Professor Ilorek Rovairre was waiting for them. It was early morning – so early that dew remained on the blades of grass and the leaves of the trees – and none of them were fully awake yet, for they were not prepared to be picked up by the shuttle at 5 AM on a weekend. Jak was one of the four students who had volunteered to participate in this extra credit assignment on Ilorek's ranch. His scales were blue with green stripes, and he was a star athlete at the Academy, one of the few. He wasn't doing very well in class, and needed to bump up his marks in science if he wanted to keep his scholarship, and the best way to do so was to take on every extra credit assignment that he could get his claws on. Though not unintelligent, he did focus more of his time on sports than he did on his studies, which was why he was trailing the other students. Next to him sat Katie, a brightly coloured dragoness with vibrant magenta fur, blazing pink hair, and a long bushy tail. She was on her phone, checking emails and sending texts to her friends from Yelfrit. It was mid afternoon there, so it wasn't hard to chat. Katie was an eternally bubbly and chipper dragoness, and she had a great relationship with Professor Ilorek; some might say too great of one. It had been rumoured that she was sleeping with him after class because she admitted to being infatuated with him, but she refused to admit it. Many saw her participation in the trip as just another excuse to be alone with Ilorek, which had clearly backfired given the fact that there were three others in the shuttle. Behind them were two more students by the names of Shareal and Kale. Both were model students, very diligent but relatively reserved. They were both on the trip because they wanted to learn more about how potions and magic work on the body as well as the limits of what a potion can do. Shareal, ared and yellow dragon, had his snout buried in a book. He was very shy and didn't communicate with others very often unless he was in the middle of a lab or discussing the latest journal he read regarding alchemy and potion science. Had it just been he and Kale, he would have been more talkative, but Jak and Katie were the types he preferred to not be around: a jock and a ditz. He preferred to keep to himself instead; he would talk when it was pertinent, not before. No reason to waste breath. Kale was a very different creature from Shareal, despite sharing a similar body type sans wings. His fur was dark teal While he was reserved most of the time, he tended to flip between introverted and extroverted depending on the situation. In most social settings he kept to himself, but when talking science or doing research, he was the gabbiest of talkers. Bring up a topic that interests him, and he won't shut up, at least most of the time. While he was probably the most excited for the day's project, he had been up late the prior night with a naga friend of his, and he was still reeling from the fun he had in her. In fact, he'd just come out that morning with barely enough time to catch the shuttle. Now, all four of them were being driven to the professor's ranch early in the morning, and they only had the faintest of ideas about what it was that awaited them. They knew it had to do with potions and fertility, but didn't know anything beyond that. Had Ilorek not been such a respected professor, this would have appeared suspect. The truth was that Ilorek was the most tenured at the Academy, so he was seen as trustworthy to most, and even sagelike to others. As the shuttle approached Ilorek's ranch, the students were surprised to see that the entire property was lined by tall ten meter high cliffs jutting out from the side of the road, with a ramp halfway down the length of the property. This was odd to them, but they had heard that Ilorek was known to be reclusive when not teaching, much like how Shareal was mostly introverted unless he was doing science or cuddling animals. The shuttle turned and drove up the ramp to emerge from the other side of the cliffs in between two large pastures – one with horses and another with a few wingless gryphons. The entire property was surrounded on three sides by these tall cliffs, as the ground formed a bowl with the pastures in the bottom and the cliffs acting like a rim. It was almost too perfect, as if the land itself had cradled his home to seclude him from the rest of the world. The only of the four sides not surrounded by cliffs was the north, which was flanked by the treeline of the Great Emerald Forest. Ilorek was standing next to the barn near his split-story ranch home, guiding a large purple and violet dragon by a bridle, waiting for them. Once the shuttle made it to the tiny parking lot next to the barn, the driver remotely opened the door and let the four students out. “All ashore.” He jested, then closed up the divider between the front and the back in shame for having made such a bad joke. Jak was first out, followed by Katie, Shareal, and Kale. All of them had their bags at the ready, and were prepared for a day of science, potions, testing, and enjoying time with the farm animals. Shareal was especially interested in spending some time with the cuddly gryphons, if he found the time to do so. Kale was focused on the impending research, while Katie was still absorbed in her phone. Jak was too busy staring at Katie to pay attention to their professor, who was walking towards them as the shuttle reversed and drove away. Ilorek was wearing a nice button up shirt and khakis, and had a smile on his face as he clicked his beak to guide the dragoness forward. “Welcome, welcome! It's good to see you all here; part of me was concerned that at least one of you would flake out and sleep in. I'm impressed.” He glanced at Jak with a smirk before rubbing his talons together. “So, I bet you're all curious why you're here.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t | \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
