You are Sam, a 12 years old, caramel stray dog with no family. You lost them when you were 4, and spent almost one year alone in he streets before a orphanage took you in. Your life changed last year, when you were spending the day out in he streets until nightime and a red heeler woman approached you... You were sitting at bench in the park and she sat beside you. "Hey kid, are you okay? Where are your parents?" "I'm fine, and hopefully they are in a better place. I'm from that orphanage in te neighborhood, just some kid wandering around." "Oh... I'm sorry..." "*sigh* Don't be, people tell me I'm dramatic." She stays by your side saying nothing for a couple minutes, the calm silence between you two feeld strangely nice. She is the one to break the silence. "Could you... Could you tell me how your family was..?" You look at her face, offended for a moment, before watching her gaze and seeing the same eyes you find in the orphanage. "They were the best, mom and dad would play with me. Grandpa would ask me to help with his garden and buy me ice cream after. Grandma would take me to the movies. I would help mom wash clothes, mostly by making a pile of dirt clothes and then jumping on top before throwing into the washing machine hehehe!" You dumbly laugh at the memory. "Haha! I know what you mean." She says with a smile and laugh. You drop your happy tone. "Everything was better, food had better taste, beathing felt lighter, I used to have more energy... Now I'm just a sad kid who miss all this stuff." Silence once again. She takes a deep breath. "My name is Brandy, what's your's kid?" She asks you. "Sam." "Well Sam, I'm sorry for being kinda rude... I-I... have a similar problem to you, the opposite, but still similiar in a way." She says and you look at her, curious as to what she is going through. "I can't start a family. I want one, but I can't get one of my own. So when you said you were an orphan I wondered aboutt how does one feels about it." You look away from her, seeing how she could take someone from the orphanage and give them a proper house with a proper family. "Well, it feels terrible. If you want a family, there a several awaiting for one where I live. There's a couple of red dog babies in there, maybe even one the looks like yourself. Surely you would make someone's life better with it." You tell her without any anger, sadness or pity. She has her mouth agape, a frown, and a confused look in her eyes. "Why didn't you ask me to adopt you?" You chuckle and look at the ground. "My grandpa taught me empathy and to be grateful for what I have. I have memories with my family, those babies won't ever have if no one adopt them." You go back to looking at her face, holding tears with all your strenght. "And I trust my family's lessons." She on the other hand can't hold her tear's for long, pulling you into a hug and before starting to cry. Her warm embrance conforts you, and you close your eyes to imagine your mother. Before long, you're hugging and crying with her. You stay with her for a couple minutes before telling her you have to go back to the orphanage. She stays in the bench waving you goodbye. The next week, she comes to your orphanage and adopts you. Explaining that she wants a bit of experience before adopting and fully raising a baby. You were a bit awkward around her for the first times, feeling out of place at her house, especially considering she adopted you on a whim and didn't have a bed for you. You spent the first week sleeping on the couch before your bed arrived, when it did, your new mom needed help to build it, and the shared activity was beyond your scope of happiness. Both of you were completely clueless as how to build it, and with every mistake she would mimick Bob Ross by calling it a "Happy accident!" and laugh together. You felt confortable around her while buildind your bed, that feeling grew each day with each new game, talk or simple acts of affection. And, as the day passed by, you felt completely at home. With a new mother, and anxious to meet your new family.
