You've been wanting to help your mom more for a while, so you asked her to teach you how to clean the house. "Well, we can start with the floor." She says handing you the vacuum cleaner. "Just turn it on and run it across the floor." You do as she says, and it's fairly easy. However, boredom quickly creeps on you, you start to wander off and try to imagine some fun adventure while cleaning, but it doesn't feel like it's working. You look at your mother and see she is dusting the bookcase, you see the photo of her with her family. You don't know much about them yet, so maybe it would be a godd idea to ask now. "Mom, can you tell me about your family?" "Our family, you're one of us sweetie. Sure, who do you wanna hear about first?" She asks looking back at you. "Hmm, I think I wanna start with grandma... If you don't mind..." you ask wanting to put this aside as fast as possible, knowing her mom has already passed away. "It's okay, I loved her with all my heart, she taught me and my sister how to ride a horse, she was basically a genius when it comes to it! She was also the most supportive mom I could have asked for, whatever I wanted to do she would help me achieve it. She cared deeeply for me, my sister and dad." She was clearly happy to talk about her. "She would have loved to meet you and you would've loved to meet her." "I'm sure I would." you tell her. "She made sure that both me and Chilli studied hard and got ourselves a bright future, she helped me pick my carrear and go through college. She would tell me about all the adventures Dad would take her, going into jungles, savannas, swamps and more." She keeps telling you about your grandma and eventually you finish the living room. As you enter the kitchen, you turn to her and ask. "what about grandpa?" "Oh, he is the worst!" She says chuckling, which confuses you. "The man is anything I could've asked for a father, but he is simply too stubborn. He would take us to the creeks and teach is all sorts of stuff, we would spend the day playing in the mud, getting dirty and running around getting sweaty! Then, when we got home, mom would be waiting at the door with our homework undone, asking 'Why did you take them out when you should be helping them with their studies?!" and then me and your auntie would watch your grandma run after him to beat him! Hahaha!" She says laughing out loud, that scene does sound funny and you can't help but giggle yourself. "He served the army in his youth and learned to roam in the wild, that cursed us witha aman who will run to the mangue after a heart surgery! Ignoring all medical advice from the doctors!" She says with a overdramatic face and laugh, making you laugh even more. "Hahahahah! i can't wait to meet him, can you take me with him to those places he took you as a child?!" You ask her excited to have an adventure with your new grandpa, remembering the times your own grandpa took you somewhere out of the city to get a new plant for his garden or to show you some beautiful landscape. You two now move to the second floor, starting with the corridor. "What about your sister Chilli? you told me she has kids of her own, when will I meet my new cousins?!" You ask really excited to meet more of your new family. "Well, she is nice, she was a really nerd little sister that I loved helping. She used to draw a lot, liked all sorts of magical stuff and mythical creatures." She says moving her hands like a wizard. "Last time I saw her was a couple of months ago, we went to a rugby game with her sister-in-law. She is married to a blue heeler named Bandit, and has two beautiful daughters, Bluey and Bingo. Bluey is a blue heeler like their dad, and Bingo... Well, she looks just like me..." She says that last part with a sad tone to it. "What's wrong mom?" You ask confused, since she was laughing just a minute ago. "It's that, looking at Bingo makes me sad I can't have a little angel of my own... You're great! Don't get me wrong, but... it... it doesn't feel the same..." She admits even more sadder. You look at her emotionless for a while, you understand what she is saying, she has been an amazing mom to you, but she is not the same as your REAL mom. You take a deep breath and try to think of the least hurtful way to say you 'get it'. "You're not like my real mom, but you're the perfect mom anyway. I may never get the advices my parents used to give me, but you've been great to me. And I can see that I won't ever give you the heeler parenthood experience, but I hope i can be a son as good as you are being a mother to me." You tell her with a silly smile, which she giggles and pates you head. "I guess you understand what I mean in the end, thank you, you ARE the perfect child I asked for." She sighs and go back to dusting. "Now, where was I again?" She asks you ready to tell you more about her sister's life. "You had just told me how her daughter's looked like." "Right, she works at airport security. She tells the craziest stories of people trying to go onboard of a plane with bizarre stuff. Like this one time, she told me a guy passed the x-ray with a bag filled with nothing but pennies! It weighted a ton, and had like three thousand bucks in it!" She tells you giggling. "Haha! Did he say what hea was gonna do with all that?" "No! He just paid the extra and moved on!" she says and laughs. "There was this one time, where she told me that a gal tried moving a whole harp in the baggage! She ripped and sewed many luggages together and tried to take it to where they would load it into the plane. They opened the giant sewed luggage and saw the whole thing, strings attached and all!" You laugh listening to the story. "Then there's her husband, they traveled the world together in their honeymoon. She met him in Europe even though they are both from here. Their love is contagious, and I hope I can get someone to love like they love eachother." She says, clearly daydreaming about a love story of her own. "I wish you luck, I could use a nice dad." You say truthfully. "What about my cousins..?" You ask knowing it's a uncomfortable topic. "They are amazing lovely kids, just like you. They are really good at making up games, I heard about 'The Magic Xylophone', 'Cow', 'Bus', 'The Mountain', and many more. Each game is unique and fun to play, when I went there I gave them animal leotards and they acted just like the animals of their costume. Bingo was a cheetah and she hunted me down like a true predator! Hehehe!" She tells you. You keep listening to her talk while cleaning, the chores slowly being done. Each room getting squeaky clean as you two work through them. At the end of the day, you completely spent your saturday doing chores. Your mom looks more concerned with you not enjoying your weekend than you. "Sam, I know you want to help, but don't waste your time with chores, a kid should play and have fun, not work like you think you should..." She tells you with a worried tone. You think for a moment, remembering why you thought you should help her even though it's hard work. And then remember something your own mother told you when she was having a hard time. "It's okay. Stray Dogs thrive in the struggle." You say with a smile. "My mom told me that, and "It's fine!" You say waving your hand. "After surviving in the streets; and spending so much time in that orphanage, I certainly believe nothing can put me down." You say and go give her a hug. "My other mom told me that some dogs are fast, some are strong, some are smart, and so on. And that we, Stray Dogs, we thrive in the struggle." You look at her eyes still smiling. "So let me thank you and help you with whatever you may need, because in the end, I will be standing." You tell her posing pridefully.
