"description": "Commissioned artwork. 2023. \n\n-----\n\nThe early morning fog hung over the city like a veil, swallowing up sounds and blurring shapes. In the middle of a sprawling urban landscape, where buildings jutted into the sky like teeth, a helicopter named Zakharov waited. This was no ordinary helicopter; Zakharov was a Dire Machine, a living, sentient being with a fierce attitude and a dominant presence.\n\nZakharov was in fact an impressive combat helicopter, derived from the Mil Mi-24. The Mi-24 had seen decades of service, from the deserts of Afghanistan to the icy forests of Eastern Europe. It was known for its speed, firepower and resilience, earning it the nickname \"Hind\". But Zakharov wasn't just a war machine, he also had a personality to match his intimidating appearance.\n\nAs dusk fell, the city slowly came to life. Zakharov sat in a hidden hangar, nestled between towering skyscrapers. His rotors stood still, but his sensors were alert, watching the world through the lenses of cameras and thermal imaging devices. He was sleek and deadly, with a cloaking pattern that matched the colors of the night sky. What made it special was that instead of two cannons protruding from its sides, a gatling gun was mounted in his maw. His most prized possession, however, was his rotor - the iconic twin blades that made the Mi-24 instantly recognizable.\n\nZakharov had a crush on rotors. He loved the way they spun, the way they sliced through the air with precision and power. He often bragged about his own rotor, claiming it was the best in town. Whenever he could, he would show it off, making the air vibrate and the ground tremble. It was his way of asserting his dominance and letting everyone know that he was the best machine in town.\n\nThe city's underworld had heard of Zakharov, and they knew to stay away from him. He had a reputation for being brash and cocky, often taunting his opponents with a playful arrogance. He would pounce on unsuspecting criminals, sending them fleeing with a deafening roar and a cloud of dust. He circled above them and laughed through his outdoor speakers before disappearing into the urban jungle.\n\nBut Zakharov wasn't just a show-off, he also had a sense of justice. He had seen enough conflict to know that power without purpose is pointless. He patrolled the city at night, using his sensors to look for trouble. When he found them, he didn't hesitate to intervene, often in dramatic fashion. He swooped down, fired a barrage and watched the bad guys scatter like cockroaches in the light. And he had to replenish his fuel somehow. One way or another ... and why not choose the one he enjoyed the most.\n\nThat morning, Zakharov had received a tip-off about a group of smugglers operating in an abandoned industrial area. They were planning to transport a large load of illegal goods, and Zakharov wasn't about to let that happen. Not that early in the morning at least. He started the engines and the rotor blades turned with a low hum. As the noise grew louder, the city seemed to hold its breath.\n\nZakharov burst out of the hangar, a blur of stealthed metal in the gray sky. He hovered over the city, his sensors scanning the landscape. It wasn't long before he found the smugglers - they were loading crates into a dilapidated warehouse, oblivious to the danger approaching them.\n\nZakharov plummeted from the sky, his rotor screaming as he picked up speed. The smugglers looked up just in time to see the huge helicopter coming towards them. The ground shook as Zakharov landed and pointed his gatling gun directly at the group. The smugglers froze, their eyes widened in fear.\n\n\"Good morning, gentlemen,\" Zakharov said through the speakers, his voice dripping with politeness. \"I hope you're ready for a change of plan. I ... haven't had any breakfast yet. \" The smugglers needed no more convincing. They dropped their weapons, ran off and disappeared into the labyrinthine streets.\n\nZakharov chuckled to himself, and the sound echoed through the empty warehouse. It was just another day in the city, another chance to remind the city everyone who was in actually in charge.\n\n\n\n-----\n\nDrawn by [fa]fever183[/fa]\nZakharov (Mil Mi-24 Dire Machine) (c) by [fa]Pattarchus[/fa]\nThe story is loosely based on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mil_Mi-24 and and https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mil_Mi-24\nMany thanks to Dyushes for the inspiration and also his help with various details. \n\n\nIf this commission has captured your attention or sparked any thoughts, I warmly encourage you to leave a comment, share your views, or simply leave a favourite or a watch.
