"writing": "Father And Son Episode Twenty-nine: Thinning Of Blood\n\nThe morning came and Omar and Darius were just getting ready to head over to Omar's home.\n\n\"Now don't let that man get to you two.\" Detriam Senior slapped both Darius and Omar on the back. \"You boys earned everything good you got coming.\"\n\n\"Thanks sir....\" Omar smiled. \"I'll be sure to have a lot of pride in myself and in my relationship.\"\n\n\"Sure you will boy. You've got a Smith on your side!\" Detriam Senior barked happily, slapping his son on the shoulder. \"'Aint nothing better than one of us.\"\n\n\"Dad, come on...\" Darius rolled his eyes.\n\n\"Well what are you kids waiting for?\" Detriam began shoving Darius and Omar towards the door. \"Get the hell outta my house and don't come back unless you tell your daddy what you've done!\" Detriam jokingly shoved the two out the door. \"Am I clear, cadets!?\"\n\n\"Crystal!\" Darius saluted his father with a determined look.\n\n\"I'll do my best sir.\" Omar saluted the same as Darius.\n\n\"Don't do your best.\" Detriam rolled his eyes. \"Just DO IT.\" Detriam turned away from the two. \"And don't come back 'till ya do!\" with a mighty swing, Detriam slammed the door closed on the two young men.\n\n\"Well then...\" Darius scratched his head, embarrassed. \"I....think dad was serious...\"\n\n\"That guy is always serious...\" Omar chuckled a bit. \"Well...I guess we have to do this...\"\n\n\"Then let's get to it. Then we can go home.\" Darius smiled as he reached for his keys.\n\n\"Actually...\" Omar put a hand on Darius' shoulder. \"It's been years since I had to walk home...\" Omar moved his hand down into Darius', blushing brightly. \"You...wanna walk me home?\"\n\nDarius blushed as well. \"Uh...s-sure...\" Darius started laughing from beneath his blushing. \"God, it's like I'm fourteen again.\"\n\n\"But better!\" Omar smirked and dragged Darius down the hall to the elevator. \"Come on Darius! Let's go to my house!\"\n\nThe two of them happily walked the blocks down the street hand in hand. They couldn't help but talk about how much everything had changed and how much everything stayed the same at the same time. Omar briefly found himself self-conscious about being with Darius, but Darius' proud smile was all it took for him to smile as well. For a brief moment, they found themselves back in the roles of two excitable teenagers, reacting to the world around them together. Before long they arrived at Omar's house, a small house with a small yard. While the house appeared to be kept up, it also looked as if nobody had done anything to actually keep the house looking nice.\n\n\"Alright...Well then...\" Omar was shaking as he stepped forward. \"Let's....d-do this D-Darius....\"\n\n\"Omar, come on. It's your dad, not a ghost.\" Darius rolled his eyes as he followed behind Omar.\n\n\"R-right....\" Omar fumbled for his keys and after a few moments, unlocked the front door, stepping in. \"Hey Dad!.....You here?\" Omar looked around the living room. It looked perfectly in order, but it also held a layer of dust. \"It's Omar dad...\"\n\n\"And Darius!\" Darius spoke up.\n\n\"Stop your yelling you two, I'm in the den!\" A voice from down the hall called out to them. The two walked down the hall to a dimly lit den area. It was a small room, a TV running old sitcom reruns on one side, a sofa on the other and in the middle a coffee table. The air in the room was stale with cigarette smoke, the table holding various ashtrays and empty bottles of whiskey. Lying on the couch was a later middle aged bear, somewhat hefty with a lifetime's worth of muscle under a layer of loose flab. As he sat up, he took a final drag on the cigarette he was smoking and crushed it into the ashtray closest to him. \"Well well well, look who decided to finally visit his dad...\" The old bear's voice was gravely and rough, but with a hint of kindness. \"And you brought along your little buddy too?\" The older man stood up to greet his son with a handshake. \"It's nice to see you two again.\"\n\n\"It's nice to see you too dad...\" Omar shook his father's hand firmly and obediently before handing the shake off to Darius.\n\n\"Good to see you again Mr. Hollander.\" Darius shook just as firmly as Omar had before him, being sure to let the military level formality of his upbringing shine.\n\n\"It's been a whiiiile since you two came round here.\" Mr. Hollander scratched himself before flipping the TV off and walking into the living room. \"What's the special occasion?\"\n\n\"Well sir, we were just in the neighborhood...\" Darius smiled. \"And we wanted to say hi.\"\n\n\"Aah, well okay...\" Mr. Hollander plopped down on the couch in the living room. \"So how's those two hippies?\" Mr. Hollander looked to Darius with a callous look. \"They still around?\"\n\n\"Uh....Yeah...Mom and dad are just fine sir...\" Darius responded somewhat quietly, his happy mood made awkward by Mr. Hollander's comment.\n\n\"Aah, good.\" Mr. Hollander chuckled, shaking his head. \"Them two crackpots really got on my nerves, but they at least raised you somewhat decently.\" Mr. Hollander looked Darius up and down with an uncaring expression. \"How's that degree treating you?\"\n\n\"Uh...Well...I'm a gym teacher.\" Darius had forgotten how little Omar's dad had thought of his family. \"I also coach the school wrestling team.....its hard work, but I'm glad to do it.\"\n\n\"Good, good. Glad to see you're making that worthless piece of paper work.\" Mr. Hollander scratched himself again. \"I didn't need any fancy degrees and I made it just fine.\"\n\n\"Dad. You've been drinking, haven't you?\" Omar had a somber look on his face.\n\n\"Eeh, just a bite. It's a weekend; I'm allowed to enjoy a weekend.\" Mr. Hollander shrugged.\n\n\"It's TUESDAY dad.\" Omar gained a stern look. \"Now you know the doctor said you can't be drinking like you used to anymore. You're going to burn yourself out.\"\n\n\"I'm FINE Alphonse.\" Mr. Hollander grumbled at his son. \"Stay out of your dad's business.\"\n\n\"Grr......Fine...\" Omar clenched his fists, deciding to let the subject slide in order to preserve the mood.\n\n\"Anyways, you doin' anything else, Smith?\" Mr. Hollander returned his attention to Darius. \"You ever get that problem of yours fixed?\"\n\n\"Problem?\" Darius pointed at himself, confused.\n\n\"You know...\" Mr. Hollander awkwardly gesticulated as he spoke. \"You knooow.\"\n\n\"....I'm still gay sir. It's not a problem that needs to be fixed.\" Darius got annoyed.\n\n\"Darius....\" Omar held on to Darius' hand. \"He didn't mean it Darius; he's just a bit off...\"\n\n\"Because I'm drunk, right?\" Mr. Hollander gave Omar a deadpan look.\n\n\"W-Well....\" Omar awkwardly turned to his dad.\n\n\"Don't you go makin' excuses for me, Alphonse.\" Mr. Hollander pulled out a pack of cigarettes, pulled one out and lit it, giving Darius the same callous look. \"I always mean what I say.\"\n\n\"Huh.....\" Darius felt even more awkward under the old bear's eyes.\n\n\"Anyway, how's my boy doing?\" Mr. Hollander turned to Omar with a wide smile. \"Gettin' married to some bimbo, a real man!\" Mr. Hollander smirked. \"You bust in her pussy yet? Any kids on the way?\"\n\n\"W-well......Dad...\" Omar blushed brightly. \"A-actually.....I have....\" Omar regained his composure. \"There's....something I've been meaning to tell you....It's...why we came over here...\"\n\n\"Oh boy, here it comes!\" Mr. Hollander smirked, getting excited. \"You got kids on the way?\"\n\n\"Dad...Actually...\" Omar started to explain.\n\n\"I can't WAIT to have some more kids running' around!\"\n\n\"Dad, would you let me-\"\n\n\"I'm going to spoil them brats until they hate you!\"\n\n\"Dad, I'm trying to tell you-\"\n\n\"I knew you'd be good for something in the end boy!\"\n\n\"WE DIVORCED DAD!\" Omar shouted at his father. \"SHE LEFT ME!\"\n\n\"Whu?\" Mr. Hollander looked surprised. \"Well whatever, I can take you downtown and get me some grandkids.\"\n\n\"I don't WANT kids dad!\" Omar became frustrated. \"I don't WANT to find some woman!\"\n\n\"Bleh, you're no fun. You're soundin' like some weakling faggot now.\" Mr. Hollander grumbled, dismissively pointing at Darius.\n\n\"You know I don't like you talking like that dad.\" Omar growled. \"Especially about Darius.\"\n\n\"Who cares what you think? You can't let this kid pull you down.\" Mr. Hollander rolled his eyes.\n\n\"I don't....Darius has been there for me every day. Undoing the damage you and mom did to me. Letting me think clearly.\" Omar smiled at Darius. \"And the truth is dad.....That.....I'm gay...\"\n\n\"You're what?\" Detriam looked confused.\n\n\"I'm gay dad. That's why Brandi left me. That's why I don't want kids. I'm a gay man.\" Omar smiled proudly.\n\n\"W-what? You're GAY now?\" Mr. Hollander found his anger roused. \"I bet YOU had something to do with this, queer boy!\" He pointed angrily at Darius.\n\n\"W-well...I...I mean...I didn't...\" Darius stammered, he wasn't expecting to be attacked like that.\n\n\"Darius had something to do with it alright.\" Omar grew angry. \"He's the one who's been giving me the love I needed to get past YOU.\" Omar grabbed Darius' hand. \"That's why I'm getting married dad. I'm getting married to Darius.\"\n\n\"WHAT!? It's bad enough you turned out to be a useless fairy, now you're trying to get gay-married?\" Mr. Hollander smashed his cigarette into the coffee table. \"I can't deal with this.\" Mr. Hollander stood up and stormed back to his den.\n\n\"Dad, you can't run from this!\" Omar followed behind.\n\n\"Omar....\" Darius slowly followed behind.\n\n\"Dad, what are you doing?\" Omar found his dad clutching a fresh bottle of whiskey.\n\n\"You're a failure son. Your mom was right.\" Mr. Hollander unscrewed the cap.\n\n\"No dad, you can't drink this away.\" Omar reached out for the bottle.\n\n\"Don't touch me, boy.\" Mr. Hollander gave his son an angry look. \"Not with them faggot hands.\"\n\n\"Dad, you CAN'T DO THIS TO ME!\" Omar grabbed the bottle out of his father's hand and threw it to the floor, making it shatter. \"YOU CAN'T TREAT ME LIKE THIS! I'M MY OWN MAN AND I'M PROUD OF WHAT I AM!\" Omar was on the verge of tears. \"You can't....Treat me like I'm nothing....Just because of what I am.....\"\n\n\"Yer mother always hated you, you know.\" Mr. Hollander grumbled. \"She knew....She could see that you would be good for NOTHING.\"\n\n\"Mom is DEAD!\" Omar shouted. \"Mom is DEAD because of her hatred! And YOU will be too if you don't....\" Omar regained his composure and turned away from his dad. \"I don't need this...I don't need you....\" He walked past Darius. \"Come on Darius, we're leaving.\"\n\n\"Omar....\" Darius was beside himself. \"Come on Omar...Maybe...he'll-\"\n\n\"Shut your mouth, boy.\" Mr. Hollander reached down and grabbed the neck of the broken whiskey bottle, brandishing it at Darius. \"You're the one who led my boy astray. I always hated you and your kind.\" \n\n\"Uh...w-what are you doing?\"\n\n\"You can do whatever you want in your own privacy and I wouldn't give a shit.\" The old bear drew closer. \"But you fucked with MY son! YOU made him gay!\" He started jabbing with the bottle. \"And I'm not going to let you have him without a fight.\"\n\n\"O-Omar...OMAR!\" Darius backed out of the den slowly, trying not to agitate the old, drunk bear.\n\nOmar returned down the hall. \"Come on Darius, what are you-HEY!\" Omar ran ahead of Darius when he saw what was going on. \"What the HELL are you doing, old man!?\"\n\n\"Get out of my way boy! That fairy is going to fucking bleed!\" Mr. Hollander swiped at Omar with the bottle. \"I'll cut you up too if I have to!\"\n\n\"GRRRRRRR....ENOUGH!\" Omar grabbed his dad's hand and threw the broken bottle at the wall. \"Don't you fucking TOUCH Darius!\" Omar threw his father's hand down and with a mighty swing, he punched his father square in the nose, knocking the bear off his feet.\n\n\"OOF!\" The punch was instantly sobering. The bear held on to his nose. \"Y-you....\" He could feel the blood gushing from between his fingers. \"You hit....your own father.....\"\n\n\"You're not any father of mine.\" Omar gave the bear a look of hatred. \"I've tried to forgive you, excuse your issues, tell myself that you'd get better....But you don't want to get better.\" Omar could feel himself tearing up as he continued. \"You can stay here in this hole and drink yourself to death. But just don't think that I'll be here to watch.\" Omar couldn't help but let a sob choke out as he wiped his tears away. \"If this is how things are going to be...then you're dead to me.\" Omar turned away. \"Go fuck yourself dad. And I really mean that....\" Omar turned to Darius, who was completely frozen with fear. \"Darius.....I'm sorry you had to see this....Let's get out of here....\" Omar softly held on to Darius' hand.\n\n\"Uh.....R-right....\" Darius quietly followed behind Omar.\n\n\"Omar.........Alphonso....\" The old bear called for his son. \"Don't walk away from me!\"\n\n\"Hmph....\" Omar could only grumble as he reached the front door.\n\n\"P-please..........\" The old bear looked down at his bloody hands. Looked around at the shattered glass, and whiskey soaking into the carpet. \"Alphonse.....\"\n\nOmar didn't look back. He walked through the door, being sure to help Darius through. You've got a Smith on your side!" Detriam Senior barked happily, slapping his son on the shoulder. "'Aint nothing better than one of us."

"Dad, come on..." Darius rolled his eyes.

"Well what are you kids waiting for?" Detriam began shoving Darius and Omar towards the door. "Get the hell outta my house and don't come back unless you tell your daddy what you've done!" Detriam jokingly shoved the two out the door. "Am I clear, cadets!?"

"Crystal!" Darius saluted his father with a determined look.

"I'll do my best sir." Omar saluted the same as Darius.

"Don't do your best." Detriam rolled his eyes. "Just DO IT." Detriam turned away from the two. "And don't come back 'till ya do!" with a mighty swing, Detriam slammed the door closed on the two young men.

"Well then..." Darius scratched his head, embarrassed. "I....think dad was serious..."

"That guy is always serious..." Omar chuckled a bit. "Well...I guess we have to do this..."

"Then let's get to it. Then we can go home." Darius smiled as he reached for his keys.

"Actually..." Omar put a hand on Darius' shoulder. "It's been years since I had to walk home..." Omar moved his hand down into Darius', blushing brightly. "You...wanna walk me home?"

Darius blushed as well. "Uh...s-sure..." Darius started laughing from beneath his blushing. "God, it's like I'm fourteen again."

"But better!" Omar smirked and dragged Darius down the hall to the elevator. "Come on Darius! Let's go to my house!"

The two of them happily walked the blocks down the street hand in hand. While the house appeared to be kept up, it also looked as if nobody had done anything to actually keep the house looking nice.

"Alright...Well then..." Omar was shaking as he stepped forward. "Let's....d-do this D-Darius...."

"Omar, come on. It's your dad, not a ghost." Darius rolled his eyes as he followed behind Omar.

"R-right...." Omar fumbled for his keys and after a few moments, unlocked the front door, stepping in. "Hey Dad!.....You here?" Omar looked around the living room. It looked perfectly in order, but it also held a layer of dust. "It's Omar dad..."

"And Darius!" Darius spoke up.

"Stop your yelling you two, I'm in the den!" A voice from down the hall called out to them. "Well well well, look who decided to finally visit his dad..." The old bear's voice was gravely and rough, but with a hint of kindness. "And you brought along your little buddy too?" The older man stood up to greet his son with a handshake. "It's nice to see you two again."

"It's nice to see you too dad..." Omar shook his father's hand firmly and obediently before handing the shake off to Darius.

"Good to see you again Mr. Hollander." Darius shook just as firmly as Omar had before him, being sure to let the military level formality of his upbringing shine.

"It's been a whiiiile since you two came round here." Mr. Hollander scratched himself before flipping the TV off and walking into the living room. "What's the special occasion?"

"Well sir, we were just in the neighborhood..." Darius smiled. "And we wanted to say hi."

"Aah, well okay..." Mr. Hollander plopped down on the couch in the living room. "So how's those two hippies?" Mr. Hollander looked to Darius with a callous look. "They still around?"

"Uh....Yeah...Mom and dad are just fine sir..." Darius responded somewhat quietly, his happy mood made awkward by Mr. Hollander's comment.

"Aah, good." Mr. Hollander chuckled, shaking his head. "Them two crackpots really got on my nerves, but they at least raised you somewhat decently." Mr. Hollander looked Darius up and down with an uncaring expression. "How's that degree treating you?"

"Uh...Well...I'm a gym teacher." Darius had forgotten how little Omar's dad had thought of his family. "I also coach the school wrestling team.....its hard work, but I'm glad to do it."

"Good, good. Glad to see you're making that worthless piece of paper work." Mr. Hollander scratched himself again. "I didn't need any fancy degrees and I made it just fine."

"Dad. You've been drinking, haven't you?" Omar had a somber look on his face.

"Eeh, just a bite. It's a weekend; I'm allowed to enjoy a weekend." Mr. Hollander shrugged.

"It's TUESDAY dad." Omar gained a stern look. "Now you know the doctor said you can't be drinking like you used to anymore. You're going to burn yourself out."

"I'm FINE Alphonse." Mr. Hollander grumbled at his son. "Stay out of your dad's business."

"Grr......Fine..." Omar clenched his fists, deciding to let the subject slide in order to preserve the mood.

"Anyways, you doin' anything else, Smith?" Mr. Hollander returned his attention to Darius. "You ever get that problem of yours fixed?"

"Problem?" Darius pointed at himself, confused.

"You know..." Mr. Hollander awkwardly gesticulated as he spoke. "You knooow."

"....I'm still gay sir. It's not a problem that needs to be fixed." Darius got annoyed.

"Darius...." Omar held on to Darius' hand. "He didn't mean it Darius; he's just a bit off..."

"Because I'm drunk, right?" Mr. Hollander gave Omar a deadpan look.

"W-Well...." Omar awkwardly turned to his dad.

"Don't you go makin' excuses for me, Alphonse." Mr. Hollander pulled out a pack of cigarettes, pulled one out and lit it, giving Darius the same callous look. "I always mean what I say."

"Huh....." Darius felt even more awkward under the old bear's eyes.

"Anyway, how's my boy doing?" Mr. Hollander turned to Omar with a wide smile. "Gettin' married to some bimbo, a real man!" Mr. Hollander smirked. "You bust in her pussy yet? Any kids on the way?"

"W-well......Dad..." Omar blushed brightly. "A-actually.....I have...." Omar regained his composure. "There's....something I've been meaning to tell you....It's...why we came over here..."

"Oh boy, here it comes!" Mr. Hollander smirked, getting excited. "You got kids on the way?"

"Dad...Actually..." Omar started to explain.

"I can't WAIT to have some more kids running' around!"

"Dad, would you let me-"

"I'm going to spoil them brats until they hate you!"

"Dad, I'm trying to tell you-"

"I knew you'd be good for something in the end boy!"

"WE DIVORCED DAD!" Omar shouted at his father. "SHE LEFT ME!"

"Whu?" Mr. Hollander looked surprised. "Well whatever, I can take you downtown and get me some grandkids."

"I don't WANT kids dad!" Omar became frustrated. "I don't WANT to find some woman!"

"Bleh, you're no fun. You're soundin' like some weakling faggot now." Mr. Hollander grumbled, dismissively pointing at Darius.

"You know I don't like you talking like that dad." Omar growled. "Especially about Darius."

"Who cares what you think? You can't let this kid pull you down." Mr. Hollander rolled his eyes.

"I don't....Darius has been there for me every day. Undoing the damage you and mom did to me. Letting me think clearly." Omar smiled at Darius. "And the truth is dad.....That.....I'm gay..."

"You're what?" Detriam looked confused.

"I'm gay dad. That's why Brandi left me. That's why I don't want kids. I'm a gay man." Omar smiled proudly.

"W-what? You're GAY now?" Mr. Hollander found his anger roused. "I bet YOU had something to do with this, queer boy!" He pointed angrily at Darius.

"W-well...I...I mean...I didn't..." Darius stammered, he wasn't expecting to be attacked like that.

"Darius had something to do with it alright." Omar grew angry. "He's the one who's been giving me the love I needed to get past YOU." Omar grabbed Darius' hand. "That's why I'm getting married dad. I'm getting married to Darius."

"WHAT!? It's bad enough you turned out to be a useless fairy, now you're trying to get gay-married?" Mr. Hollander smashed his cigarette into the coffee table. "I can't deal with this." Mr. Hollander stood up and stormed back to his den.

"Dad, you can't run from this!" Omar followed behind.

"Omar...." Darius slowly followed behind.

"Dad, what are you doing?" Omar found his dad clutching a fresh bottle of whiskey.

"You're a failure son. Your mom was right." Mr. Hollander unscrewed the cap.

"No dad, you can't drink this away." Omar reached out for the bottle.

"Don't touch me, boy." Mr. Hollander gave his son an angry look. "Not with them faggot hands."

"Dad, you CAN'T DO THIS TO ME!" Omar grabbed the bottle out of his father's hand and threw it to the floor, making it shatter. "YOU CAN'T TREAT ME LIKE THIS! I'M MY OWN MAN AND I'M PROUD OF WHAT I AM!" Omar was on the verge of tears. "You can't....Treat me like I'm nothing....Just because of what I am....."

"Yer mother always hated you, you know." Mr. Hollander grumbled. "She knew....She could see that you would be good for NOTHING."

"Mom is DEAD!" Omar shouted. "Mom is DEAD because of her hatred! And YOU will be too if you don't...." Omar regained his composure and turned away from his dad. "I don't need this...I don't need you...." He walked past Darius. "Come on Darius, we're leaving."

"Omar...." Darius was beside himself. "Come on Omar...Maybe...he'll-"

"Shut your mouth, boy." Mr. Hollander reached down and grabbed the neck of the broken whiskey bottle, brandishing it at Darius. "You're the one who led my boy astray. I always hated you and your kind."

"Uh...w-what are you doing?"

"You can do whatever you want in your own privacy and I wouldn't give a shit." The old bear drew closer. "But you fucked with MY son! YOU made him gay!" He started jabbing with the bottle. "And I'm not going to let you have him without a fight."

"O-Omar...OMAR!" Darius backed out of the den slowly, trying not to agitate the old, drunk bear.

Omar returned down the hall. "Come on Darius, what are you-HEY!" Omar ran ahead of Darius when he saw what was going on. "What the HELL are you doing, old man!?"

"Get out of my way boy! That fairy is going to fucking bleed!" Mr. Hollander swiped at Omar with the bottle. "I'll cut you up too if I have to!"

"GRRRRRRR....ENOUGH!" Omar grabbed his dad's hand and threw the broken bottle at the wall. "Don't you fucking TOUCH Darius!" Omar threw his father's hand down and with a mighty swing, he punched his father square in the nose, knocking the bear off his feet.

"OOF!" The punch was instantly sobering. The bear held on to his nose. "Y-you...." He could feel the blood gushing from between his fingers. "You hit....your own father....."

"You're not any father of mine." Omar gave the bear a look of hatred. "I've tried to forgive you, excuse your issues, tell myself that you'd get better....But you don't want to get better." Omar could feel himself tearing up as he continued. "You can stay here in this hole and drink yourself to death. But just don't think that I'll be here to watch." Omar couldn't help but let a sob choke out as he wiped his tears away. "If this is how things are going to be...then you're dead to me." Omar turned away. "Go fuck yourself dad. And I really mean that...." Omar turned to Darius, who was completely frozen with fear. "Darius.....I'm sorry you had to see this....Let's get out of here...." Omar softly held on to Darius' hand.

"Uh.....R-right...." Darius quietly followed behind Omar.

"Omar.........Alphonso...." The old bear called for his son. "Don't walk away from me!"

"Hmph...." Omar could only grumble as he reached the front door.

"P-please.........." The old bear looked down at his bloody hands. Looked around at the shattered glass, and whiskey soaking into the carpet. "Alphonse....."

Omar didn't look back. He walked through the door, being sure to help Darius through. He was still crying as he slowly closed the door. "Darius....Lets go...." With that, he closed the door, leaving his father behind him.

To Be Continued...
",
