"description": "Day 16 of CuteGirlTober2024 turned fashion study - Gyaru\n\nOh this was a fun one! I didn't know that gyaru is basically writing \"gal\" in Japanese. And it's more varied than I had thought! There are many different fashion types. It basically came out as a rebellion to Japanese beauty standards (specifically of women) as a lot of Japanese fashion did it seems. But it's ranged from early roots of deep tanning, bright makeup, and mix-matched clothes to more high fashion look. The main thing the different styles have in common is basically having a bold, distinct look that doesn't fit the conservative Japanese mold.\n\nI was gonna do an older style of gyaru that I was first introduced to. But that felt hard to show in a sketch (deep tan, dark eye liner with white around the eyes, etc). And a bit harder to do overall. So I ended up going for what's called Kogal gyaru which is basically highschoolers using their uniform as part of the style (or adults who kept their old uniform in some cases). Common themes are make-up and nails, rolled up skirts to make them shorter, and loose socks. I'm starting to get decent at drawing folds now, haha. Though I had to actually pay attention to the hands for those nails.\n\nAnd went with a cute yorkshire terrier girl for this one. ❤",
