The attack had gone south the moment Infinite reared his head. Who would have thought that a single being could so completely turn the tide of battle. The Phantom Ruby had literally turned their world upside down, and in the chaos a lone rookie found themselves separated from the remaining forces. They made their way down various the roads of the city, trying to find a way to meet back up with the other squadrons. However Infinite had turned the city into a virtual labyrinth, and it seemed like no matter which way the rookie went they just ended up going in circles. Still they pressed forward, hoping to find some friendly faces before Eggman's forces found them. Unfortunately that hope was dashed as they rounded the next corner, and encountered the absolute last being they ever wanted to see... There he was; The one who had defeated Sonic; The beast who had destroyed their home; The monster who had imprisoned their friends and family; Infinite. There he stood, gazing down at the havoc he had wrought. The villain appeared to monologing, and hadn't seemed to notice them yet. The rookie couldn't quite make out what he was saying at first, but the next sentence was clearly directed at them. "And as if to answer, the world sends me a trembling child." Infinite mused. The rookie froze; Shocked to learn that their presence was known after all. In an instant Infinite stood next to them, talking into their ear. "You must be a straggler who got left behind." Infinite stated "Are you going to fight and die here? Or, run away in fear again?" The rookie stood petrified with terror. This creature had defeated Sonic; It had decimated an entire army; What chance did a lone rookie like themselves have against such a beast?! Just as it seemed fear would win and they would flee in terror, a memory of Sonic flashed in the forefront of their mind. "Don't be scared. This is your moment to shine." the blue hedgehog told them "Keep going. Don't let your fear own you!" Those words of encouragement were enough to break the rookie from their stupor. With new found courage, they stared down Infinite, letting the villain know that they were ready to fight. "Well, well. It seems behind that fear is a spark of defiance." Infinite said, mildly impressed "Fine. I will teach you fear, then pain, and then... well, at least the fear and pain will end." Infinite held out his claw, firing a shot of red energy at the rookie, who quickly tumbled to the side to avoid it. He fired another blast but they dodged it again. Suddenly he appeared in front of the rookie's face, driving a fist into their gut and sending them flying across the field. Another moment and Infinite was above them, delivering a kick that sent them crashing to the ground. The rookie groaned in pain as they started to get to their feet. However they noticed a field of red particles on the ground around them. Thinking fast, they shot their wire straight at Infinite, pulling themselves to safety just as a pillar of energy burst from the floor. Caught off guard by this, Infinite wasn't prepared for the rookie's follow up attack. Using the wire to propel themselves straight towards that accursed mech, the rookie delivered a kick square in his chest, sending him reeling back a short distance. The rookie quickly followed up by unleashing his wispon, deploying a whip of electrical energy and delivering several lashes to the dazed villain. However Infinite recovered and grabbed the whip in his claw, swinging it around and sending the rookie flying. He charged himself with energy and dashed straight towards the helpless rookie. But they reacted quickly, shooting their wire at the ground to pull themselves down and out of harm's way. The rookie looked back up to see Infinite charging a cluster of red particles in his claw. The rookie quickly moved to avoid the attack, but the cluster traveled much slower than expected, and for moment it looked like the attack was a dud... that is until the cluster changed directions, lazily giving chase to the rookie. The rookie ran sidelong, hoping to throw off the pursuing particles. But Infinite fired another cluster from the other side, trapping the rookie in a pincer attack. With no where left to go, the rookie fired their grappling line at the ceiling pulling themselves up just as the two attacks collided. However they had played right into Infinite's hands, who was waiting at the top to deliver a powerful kick to the rookie that sent them careening to the ground. Confident that his foe was down for the count, Infinite casually floated back to the ground, and approached the rookie's crumpled form. But when he got close, the rookie suddenly shot up, unleashing the electrical line from from their wispon, which wrapped Infinite, securing his arms to the side, leaving him restrained. The rookie poured more power into the whip, delivering a powerful shock to the villain for a few moments. The rookie felt a glimmer of hope; They had Infinite at their mercy; Maybe they could make the monster feel a fraction of the pain he had caused them; Maybe, just maybe they could even make him beg for his life. But as the attack ended, it was not pain nor frustration that they heard coming from the villain... it sounded more like... amusement. "You put up quite a fight." Infinite said, once again seeming mildly impressed "I underestimated just how desperately the feeble cling to life. Perhaps it is time I show you the meaning of despair." A sinister glow surrounded Infinite before he unleashed a massive blast of energy, shattering his bonds and leaving the rookie feeling dazed and disoriented. "You see, up until now I have only been using a fraction of the Phantom Ruby's power." Infinite explained "But you, I think you deserve a full demonstration its capabilities." He reached a claw up to clasp his mask, removing the cover in a slow and dramatic fashion. The rookie was shocked by the motion and even more so by what lied underneath. They were met with the scarred, yet unmistakable face of a jackal. B-But that was impossible! Infinite was just another one of Eggman's mechs wasn't he?! No, this had to be a trick of the Phantom Ruby! The rookie closed their eyes and shook their head, trying to throw off the Ruby's effects. Infinite’s voice filled their head "You cannot hope to resist. You are powerless against the Phantom Ruby's influence." When the rookie finally opened their eyes, things had only gotten worse. They found themselves standing in the palm of Infinite’s claw, the now massive jackal looming over them. They fell back onto their rump and paws, gripped by primordial terror as they stared up at the giant. Infinite raised his claw to eye level, looking upon the trembling freedom fighter in front of him. "How quickly your new found bravado crumbles under the weight of true power." Infinite mocked them "This is the true nature of the world. The strong thrive and grow, while the weak... are devoured." It took a few moments for the full gravity of Infinite's words to sink in, but his intentions were made horrifyingly obvious as the jackal stretched open his jaws. The rookie's eyes widened in terror as they gazed into the cavernous maw. Soft glistening flesh lined the walls, salivating at the prospect of impending food. The slick and flexible tongue lay flat, ready to catch and taste its meal. But the most terrifying aspect was in the back, that powerful rippling throat, eager to invite its prey into its dark and slimy depths. The rookie screamed as they were tossed into the jackal's open maw, landing on the beast's warm moist tongue. Their head immediately bolted back towards the entrance, which to their horror was quickly sealing shut. In a panic, they tried to run back towards the rapidly closing exit, but the undulating motions of the tongue and the sticky saliva clinging to their fur impeded their progress. Desperately they reached a paw out as they watched their only path of escape closed off, sealing them inside their hot and squishy prison. This isn't real! This isn't real! They repeated to themselves over and over again, but it made no difference. Their mind perceived it as real, and that was all the mattered. As soon as the maw snapped shut the tongue began to play with its food. The rookie cried out in distress as they shoved around the mouth by the powerful appendage. Occasionally it would press them against the gums or roof of the mouth, taking in their flavor and drenching them in saliva. They tried to struggle, to fight back against the appendage's affections. But it was no use, they were little more than a crumb to the mighty muscle. The torment lasted for several minutes before the tongue finally let up, leaving the rookie panting and disoriented on the slick muscle. However this momentary relief was quickly interrupted as the tongue began to curl back, pushing its prey towards the back of the throat. Renewed panic gripped the rookie, adrenaline shooting through their system as their most basic instincts kicked in. They tried to scale the tongue, tried to avoid sinking into the hungry gullet below. But the surface was too slick with the jackal's saliva, and the rookie found themselves slowly sliding down the moist muscle. No! Let me out! I'm not food! I'm not food! Their mind screamed as they looked down in terror at the abyssal throat beneath them. Desperately they clung to the tongue, but they could feel their grip slipping, saliva pooling around their paws. It wasn't long before they lost their grip, and with a wail of mortal terror they plunged into the constricting throat muscles below. Being as small as they were, the trip down the throat was quick, carried all the way down in one nauseatingly swift gulp. Their body hardly made a lump in Infinite's throat as if he was swallowing a simple pill. The rookie was squeezed through a tight ring of flesh, and for a moment there was the sensation of free falling before they splashed down in a pool of putrid sludge. They immediately began to flail, struggling to get out of the viscous substance. Finally they managed to breach the surface, taking deep breaths of acrid air that burned their lungs. This isn't happening! This isn't happening! They tried to convince themselves, but the tingling that was spreading across their body was all too real. They knew that Infinite had a sadistic streak, but never imagined that the vile villain was this twisted. They waded through the pool of digestive juices, desperately trying to escape the stinging acids. But no matter which way they went, all they found was the slimy lining of the jackal's stomach. They pounded against those fleshy walls in fear and frustration. Deep down they knew it was a futile gesture, but they couldn't just sit idly by while the merciless stomach digested them alive. They could already feel their skin growing raw and agitated, an insatiable itch spreading across their body. They also noticed that clumps of fur were breaking loose from their body, slowly dissolving away in caustic bath around them. Deeper panic began to set in as they started to realize just how much pain they were in for, and the real digestion hadn't even started yet. The stomach gurgled and groaned around them, preparing to digest its meal in earnest. Suddenly the rookie's world was turned upside down as the stomach walls contracted around them, churning its contents and submerging the rookie in a torrent of chyme. Life became a living hall after that as the rookie fought to stay alive in that chamber of death. Moments to breathe were few and far between as they were constantly batted by churning stomach walls and pulled along by the sloshing acids. All sense of time and direction were lost; It was simply a moment by moment struggle to survive. That wasn't even the worst of it; With each passing moment, the burning on their skin grew more intense as digestive enzymes worked to break down their body. It wasn't long before hunks of weakened flesh broke off of the rookie's body, sending white hot jolts of pain through their system. They tried to scream, but their cries of agony were drown out by the surrounding acids, and only served to waist precious air. Their struggles grew more frantic as they entered their death throes, however they were quickly weakened as the digestive juices began to assault their exposed muscles. With their motor functions lost, they could no longer struggle to keep themselves afloat, causing them to sink below the pool of acid and chyme. It wasn't long before their lungs burned for oxygen; Unable to fight their body's natural reaction, they breathed in a mouthful of fluid, filling their lungs with acid and digestive enzymes. The rookie didn't even know this level of agony was possible. Pain was a constant companion now; It wracked every fiber of their being, tearing them apart both physically and mentally. All they wanted now was to die, and leave this nightmare behind them. Still it would take some time for their brain to shut down, and in the meantime they could only suffer as the acid ate through their muscles and lungs, spilling into their innards, where the digestive fluids could work on breaking down their internal organs. The pain had reached its climax, and they were sure death would finally follow... And suddenly it was all gone; The oppressive stomach, the merciless acids, everything... The rookie found themselves lying on the ground, drenched in sweat, their body trembling from shock, and their heart pounding so hard they thought it would burst from their chest. It had all felt so real; The pain; The terror; Had it really all just been in their mind? "Now do you grasp the futility of your struggles?" Infinite questioned them, having returned to his original size and form "With the Phantom Ruby's power, I can make you relive this nightmare time and time again. An endless cycle of suffering from which there is no escape." he stated ominously "I wonder how many times you can endure this torture before your real body gives out?" The rookie's felt a wave of nausea and horror rise in their stomach at those words. They wanted to scream at the beast; Shout in anger; Scream if terror; Cry in sorrow; To unleash all the emotions that were pent up inside them, but they felt too sick to even move. All they could do was glare daggers at the heartless monster, mentally cursing him with every fiber of their being. "Spare me your childish contempt. The strong always vanquish the weak. You have only your own frailty to blame." Infinite stated as he once again reached for his mask "Now I will teach you the true meaning of infinite despair..."
