Guardians of Alicrest: Chapter 1: Tragedy & Calvary The land of Alicrest is a land of great natural beauty and plentiful natural resources. The land carried a variety of different climates, from the lush forests of the west, to the murky swamps of the east; From the scorching deserts of the south, to the frozen mountains of the north. At first glance it would appear to be a paradise for Pokemon of all shapes and sizes. However the land's beautiful exterior held a much darker and twisted interior. The Vorlords and their minions terrorized the inhabitants of Alicrest. It wasn't uncommon for Pokemon to go missing and most of the population lived in constant fear that they would be the next chosen for one of the Vorlord's meals. Because of this, some Pokemon chose to live away from others, hoping to go unnoticed as the Vorlords raided the towns and villages. One such family was a family of eeveelutions that lived in the western forest. The daughter of the family was a young Eevee named Ava. Although her parents had warned her about the Vorlords, she had grown up happy and blissfully ignorant of the horrors they could wrought. Her mother, a Leafeon, was an expert at surviving in nature, knowing all the best places to forage for berries while her father, an Umbreon, was the ever watchful eyes of the family, keeping them safe from any dangers they may come across. It was a day just like any other, the family of eeveelutions had just finished foraging for berries and were heading along one of the forest paths back to their den. The Umbreon had his senses on extra high alert today. There had been rumors of Pokemon disappearing along this path. No doubt the work of the despicable Vorlords that terrorized the land. A snapping twig caused the Umbreon's ears to perk up. He stuck out a paw, halting the rest of his family. He could hear bushes rustling ahead; Whatever was coming, it was big. The Umbreon quickly and quietly lead his family into the some nearby bushes. He peered back through the bushes observing the road ahead. After a few moments a Nidoking emerge from the bushes up the road. And he was not alone, a few moments later a Rhydon emerged from the bushes as well. They seemed to be chatting about something. The Umbreon tilted his ears forward, hoping to make out what they were saying. "Vorlord Nefarious is going to be really angry with us if we can't find him a meal for the day." The Nidoking said to his partner. "Yeah, the last group that didn't bring him a meal BECAME his meal." The Rhydon said with a shudder. "Usually this road has plenty of Pokemon to snatch, but I haven't seen a single one all day." The Nidoking observed. "Do you think they caught onto us?" The Rhydon suggested. "Perhaps, maybe was should search somewhere else." The Nidoking replied before they both crossed into the bushes on the other side of the road. The family of eeveelutions all breathed a sigh of relief. That had been too close. "Well, well, well, what do we have here?" the sudden voice startled the eeveelutions out of the bush. They all turned back to see a Sceptile rise out of the bush. "And here I was afraid we'd become tonight's main course." the Sceptile said. "Grit! Bruno! Get back here you two meat heads!" The eeveelutions started to bolt down the road, but the Nidoking and Rhydon emerged from the bushed to block their path. Left with no other options, the Umbreon positioned himself between the two ground types and Ava, while the Leafeon placed herself between the Sceptile and Ava, both were prepared to give their lives for their daughter. "How noble." The Sceptile mocked them as he cracked his knuckles. The rest became a blur for Ava. There were flashes of green, black, purple, and grey... and then nothing. ****** Ava lifted her head groggily as she slowly regained consciousness. She tried to get her bearings as she inspected her surroundings. The ground was cold and hard like stone. She also seemed to be surrounded on all sides by stone walls. The only light allowed into the room was through a window hole near the top of one of the walls. As she looked around more she noticed that one of the walls had a door on it. She made her way over and knocked on it with her paw. "Hello, is anyone there?" she asked. There was no answer. Fear began creep over her and she wished her mother and father were there. Suddenly her memory came back like a ton of bricks. Her parents had been fighting those scary Pokemon right before she lost consciousness. Her fear turned into full blown panic as she had no idea what became of them. "Let me out! Somebody, anybody, help!" she shouted in vain. Still no answer. She began to bang her paws on the door, hoping to attract someone's attention. This time it seemed her prayers were answered as she heard a click from the door. The door slowly creaked open. Ava's face lit up for a moment as she expected to be saved, but her expression dropped as she was greeted by the same Sceptile as before. "I see miss sleeping beauty is finally awake." he said with a smirk. Ava quickly scrambled away from him, backing herself up against the cell wall. It was easy for the Sceptile to enter the cell and snatch her up by the tail. "Vorlord Nefarious has simply been dying to meet you." he said ominously. He carried her down a hall lined with doors similar to one she had been locked behind. It was like some kind of prison or worse, some kind of dungeon. He carried her up a couple flights of stairs into a much wider hallway. They stopped in front of large set of double doors. The Nidoking and Rhydon from earlier were standing by the doors. They used their tremendous strength to slowly push the doors open. As the doors slowly creaked open, panic began began to creep into Ava's mind as she tried to imagine what kind of horrible monster was waiting on the other side of the door. She shut her eyes for fear of what she might see. The doors stopped creaking and the Sceptile stepped into the room. "Vorlord Nefarious, I've brought the Eevee you requested." the Sceptile said in an uncharacteristically respectful manner. "Excellent, just set her down over there." the voice that responded was not big and monstrous like Ava expected. She hesitantly peeked out of one eye and what she saw wasn't a monster. In fact it was just a Grumpig sitting on some kind of makeshift throne. The Sceptile set Ava down in the middle of the room. "You can go now." the Grumpig excused his cohort. As the Sceptile walked back through the doors, the Grumpig's pearls began to glow and he began to move his hands together. A purple energy surrounded the doors causing them to close on their own. When the doors finished closing, the Grumpig turned his attention back to Ava. "I am Vorlord Nefarious and what is your name?" He asked in an almost welcoming tone. "I'm A-Ava" she replied nervously. Even though he wasn't as intimidating as she first imagined he would be, she still had a bad feeling about him and slowly began to back away from him. "Now, now, there's no need for that. Come closer; I have something I want to show you." Nefarious said as his pearls glowed again. A purple energy enveloped Ava and lifted her towards him. He set her head against his large belly and held her there with his hooves. "Do you hear that?" he asked. She listened carefully. She could hear his gut as it gurgled and churned, but hidden among these sounds was another more ominous sound; The faint screams of other Pokemon. She could also swear she felt squirms from within the belly under her. "Do you know that is?" the Grumpig asked her. She slowly shook her head. A small voice in the back of her mind telling her she didn't want to know the answer. The Grumpig leaned closer so he could whisper into her ear "It's your parents." Her eyes went wide and for a moment she just sat in shock, her mind unable to accept what he had just told her. Then the dam burst. "No! No! Let them out you monster!" She wailed as she beat her tiny paws on his chest. "Oh I'm afraid it's too late for that. Even if I wanted to let them out, they wouldn't survive." He replied "Don't worry, you'll be joining them soon enough." "What?!" for the second time she was shocked senseless. "That's right, your parents were the main course, but you, my little morsel are the dessert." He held her head against his stomach again. "Listen carefully now to what fate awaits you." He said sadistically. Despair overcame Ava bringing her violent tantrum to halt. She just lay against his belly, tears streaming down her face as she whimpered in defeat. A wicked grin grew on Nefarious's face as he reveled in his victim's suffering. He savored it for a few more moments before deciding he had put off his dessert long enough. A purple glow appeared around Ava and lifted her above the Grumpig. "Down the hatch." He said before opening his maw wide. Ava could see the saliva soaked mouth ready to accept her and the rippling throat muscles ready to pull her down into the abyss. Her survival instincts flared to life as she began to struggle once again. The psychic power that suspended her in the air left her flailing uselessly as Nefarious slowly lowered her towards his mouth. "No! No!" Ava cried out, covering her eyes again. Suddenly a loud crash came from outside the room, drawing Nefarious's attention. There was some shouting, followed by another thud. Then there were a few moments of silence before a Nidoking came flying through the door, landing on his back with dazed swirls in his eyes. Soon after, a female Mienshao entered the room, followed by a male Meowstic. Nefarious dropped Ava to the ground as he turned his full attention to the intruders. "You've eaten your last victim Nefarious. Your rain of terror ends today." The Meowstic proclaimed. Nefarious cackled manically. "Today must be my birthday; My meals are delivering themselves." He mocked them before shooting several beams of sparkling light from his pearls. With honed reflexes and lightning speed, the Mienshao struck each shard out of the air. The Meowstic fired a psybeam at the Grumpig, but Nerfarious countered with a psybeam of his own. The two beams collided with a small psychic blast. The Mienshao made a beeline for Nefarious, but found herself enveloped in a purple aura. Nefarious tossed her aside before firing another psybeam at the Meowstic. The Meowstic rolled to the side, then charged a ball of shadow energy in his paw and fired it at the Grumpig. Nefarious channeled his psychic energy and split into several after images of himself, causing the shadow ball to fly harmlessly through one of the images. All the images charged their own shadow balls and launched them at the Meowstic. Not knowing which attack was the real one, the Meowstic couldn't dodge in time. The attack sent him flying across the room. Nefarious prepared to follow up with a psybeam, but a lightning quick blur began to take out his illusions. The Mienshao quickly reached the real Nefarious, delivering a swift low sweep, knocking the Grumpig off his feet, followed by a force palm that sent him sprawling across the ground. Nefarious quickly recovered and focused his psychic energy on the Mienshao raising her into the air. "So you want to go head-to-head; That can be arranged." he said before pulling her towards him. He reared his head back and just as she entered range, he launched his head forward while channeling a large amount of psychic power at the tip of his forehead. The attack sent the Mienshao flying back, but she was caught by the Meowstic's own psychic energy, delivering her safely to the ground. Suddenly the Meowstic was struck in the side by the Nidoking's unconscious body as Nefarious used his psychic powers to wield it like a rag-doll. He swung the body back at the Mienshao, but she quickly flipped over it and delivered a spin kick powerful enough to break the psychic hold on the body and send it flying at Nefarious. Nefarious didn't react fast enough and he was bowled over by the dead weight. For a few moments it was quiet. The Mienshao and Meowstic both watched the Nidoking's body carefully. Suddenly a huge burst of psychic energy threw the body off of Nefarious. His pearls glowed extra bright as he floated back to his feet. "No more games! All this fighting has really worked up my appetite. You two will make an excellent meal, but first I think you could use a little tenderizing." He held up both his hands, surrounding both the Mienshao and the Meostic in psychic energy. The Meowstic tried to break the psychic hold with his own powers, but to no avail. Nefarious thrust both his hands, forward slamming the two defenseless Pokemon against the wall. He was rewarded with grunts of pain from his victims. He continued by bringing his hands down, slamming the two to the ground. More groans reached his ears, filling him with delight. He began mercilessly slamming them around the room, enjoying every groan, grunt, and cry had received. Ava was frozen in terror as she witnessed the spectacle before her. This monster had eaten her parents and now was about to kill two more Pokemon. What hope was there? How could any Pokemon possibly stop such a monster? However, through the terror a small voice in the back of her mind told her it couldn't end like this. She tried to move forward but her body still refused to listen to her. The small voice began to grow in volume as she summoned all the courage she could muster. Come on... Act... Do something... Anything... MOVE! Nefarious cackled manically as continued to juggle his victims, occasionally slamming them into each other. "This is the most fun I've had in ages! You two make great rag-dolls, but I bet you'll make even better meals. Now prepare to..." Suddenly a sharp pain shot through Nefarious's foot, causing him to cry out in pain and dropped the two battered Pokemon to the ground. Nefarious looked to his foot to find that Ava had firmly sunk he teeth into it. "Why you little...! Let go!" He started to shake his foot, attempting to dislodge the small Pokemon, but Ava held on for dear life. She put every ounce of her energy into keeping her jaw shut on the monster's foot. The Mienshao and the Meowstic managed to get back to their feet and were a little shocked by the sight in front of them, but they wouldn't let this opportunity pass them by. Wrapping the Mienshao in his own psychic energy, the Meowstic launched her at the Grumpig. Nerfarious finally managed to shake Ava loose, sender her sprawling along the floor. He turned back just in time to see the Mienshao reach his face. She delivered several rapid fire punches to his stomach followed by a swift jump kick to his chest which sent him skidding backwards. "Why you...!" Nefarious didn't get to finish as the Meowstic leapt over the Mienshao, shadow ball in hand. He fired the ball of shadow energy straight at Nefarious, sending him tumbling back head over heels backwards. When he finally stopped, he looked up at them weakly. "You haven't seen the last of me! Mark my words, I'll make a meal out of you yet!" He threatened before his pearls glowed one last time and he disappeared in a flash of light. "Blasted coward! He got away!" The Meowstic said in frustration. "There will be other opportunities. For now we should feel fortunate that we are still alive." The Mienshao responded. "I suppose we have our little friend here to thank for that." The Meowstic said as they both turned to regard the Ava. Ava was still shaken from the battle. Could she really trust these two. She looking upon them with fear and uncertainty. "It's okay, you're safe now." The Mienshao said in a soothing voice. It was almost too good to be true. Was it really over? Was she really safe? As she came down from the adrenaline rush, the stress of the situation became too much for her to handle. Her vision faded to black as she fainted.
