Pokemon is the property of Nintendo and Game Freak. A Brutal Boss Encounter It had been an arduous journey, but they were finally here. A Zangoose, Decidueye, and Braixen stood before a large ornate door. They had navigated their way through the labyrinthine dungeon, avoiding deadly traps and fighting off aggressive wild Pokemon. Beyond this door lay the treasure they were seeking, but they also knew a foe far stronger than any they had faced to so far would be waiting for them. It was always the way these things worked: Fight your way through the dungeon; Fight the big baddy at the end; Get the treasure. It was nothing new for the group of seasoned adventurers. They had successfully fought their way through many dungeons like this one. However, this dungeon in particular had acquired a certain reputation. Any group of Pokemon that attempted the dungeon was never heard from again. The trio of Pokemon prepared themselves mentally. They weren't sure what to expect beyond the door, but whatever it was, they were almost certain they would have to fight it. The Zangoose held his paw up to the center of the door. The center began to glow and the sound of chains and gears could be heard within the walls. Moments later, the door shot up into the ceiling, allowing the group access to the room beyond. As soon as the group set foot inside the room, the door slammed shut behind them. There was no turning back now. The three inspected the room, taking in the layout and watching for anything that might attack them. The room appeared to be a massive cavern, a far cry from the Pokemon-made architecture of the dungeon. Bones of varying shapes and sizes littered the ground. It appeared that there was some truth to the rumors about this place. The Zangoose took the lead as the group carefully moved forward. They could hear wind up ahead and soon they reached the edge of a large chasm. They looked down into the chasm to judge its depth, but they saw nothing except darkness below. It looked like the path continued on the other side of the chasm, but it was far too wide to jump. "Great, what are we supposed to do now?" the Zangoose asked in annoyance, expected a battle, not another puzzle. "Let's look around, maybe there is a switch or lever we need to press." the Decidueye suggested. They looked around the ledge for a bit, searching for anything that might help them get across the chasm. However, as they were searching, something made the Braixen's ears twitch. "Do you guys hear that?" she asked. The other two listened for a moment, but didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. "Hear what?" the Zangoose asked. "The wind, it's getting louder." the Braixen elaborated. Now that she mentioned it, the two did notice that wind was quite a bit louder than when they had entered. The slow increase in volume had caused them to fail to notice it. They all turned to look at the chasm where the wind sound was coming from. A moment later, a large, dark blue dragon head rose from the chasm, staring at them with glowing red eyes. The adventurer's pupils shrank as they beheld the beast in front of them. But that was only the beginning, the head continued to rise, revealing its long black neck. Black wings came into view, explaining how it had made its way up the chasm. The group's fear escalated as a smaller head rose up on each side of the middle one. But the final and largest shock came as all three necks converged to one body. Dear Arceus! What was this thing?! They had fought strong Pokemon in other dungeons, but nothing like this! This thing was massive! Each head was probably large enough to swallow them whole! The massive Hydreigon let loose a furious roar, sending a chill down the adventurers' spines. But once the initial shock wore off, the trio of Pokemon shook themselves back to their senses. They didn't make it this far as adventurers by panicking whenever they encountered a fearsome foe. This thing may have been large, but everything had a weakness, they just needed to find it. "I'll distract it. Braixen, you back me up from here. Decidueye, bide your time and look for an opening." the Zangoose instructed before dashing forward. The head on his left reared back, ready to strike. The Zangoose jumped and tumbled out of the way just in time to avoid the attack as the head slammed into the ground. He quickly turned and slashed at the head, but the thick scales deflect the attack with ease. The Braixen pulled the branch from her tail and twirled around, firing a barrage of fireballs a the monster's chest. The attack had little effect on the massive dragon, making the Braixen scowl in disappointment. The left head pulled back up, while the right head reared back and plunged towards the Zangoose. He narrowly managed to dodge the attack again, leaving the head embedded in the ground. The Braixen performed a few more twirls before firing a Psybeam at the head, but the attack dissipated upon contact with the creature's dark aura. The Braixen threw a small fit of frustration while the Decidueye nocked an arrow on his wing and took aim at the head's eye. He loosed the arrow and the head reared back, releasing a roar of pain as the arrow found its mark. "It's always the eyes." the Decidueye commented, preparing another arrow for his next opening. In the meantime, the Braixen had managed to regain her composure "Okay third time's the charm." She twirled and fired a barrage of dazzling lights at the monstrous beast, causing the Hydreigon to release another roar of pain as the attack dealt great damage to him. "Alright, we can do this, just keep up the pressure!" the Zangoose encouraged in high spirits. Suddenly a bright glow began to form in each of the heads' mouths. The Zangoose's expression drooped instantly as he saw the oncoming attack. "Get down!" he yelled running back towards the others. The three mouths converged their aim on a single point in front of them. They each fired a Dragon Pulse, which merged together into a much more devastating attack. The beam struck the ground near the trio of Pokemon and exploded with tremendous force, blasting the group of Pokemon to the ground. When the dust cleared, the Zangoose quickly surveyed the area for his teammates. "Are you two okay?" he asked. "I'm okay." the Braixen replied. "A little scuffed up, but I can still..." the Decidueye's sentence was cut short as an open dragon mouth slammed down over him. "No!" the Zangoose and Braixen cried out in unison. The left head raised back up, carrying their friend with it. They watched in horror as a bulge slid down the beast's neck and disappeared into its body with a long, audible "Guuuuullllp!" "No, no! Spit him out now!" the Braixen yelled, aiming her branch at the dragon and firing off another Dazzling Gleam. This only served to enrage the beast further. All heads glared at her and fired Dark Pluses in her direction. The Braixen cried out as the force of the attack launched her back into the wall. She slumped to one knee, panting heavily, her ears ringing from the force of the impact. "Braixen!" she heard a voice yell, bringing her back to her senses a little. She looked back up and her eyes grew wide as the draconic maw of the right head came down on her. The Zangoose was forced to watch as another one of his friends descended down the beast's throat into its body. Adventuring was always a dangerous lifestyle and death was always a very real possibility. But to see it happen right in front of his face and to be completely powerless to stop it; It was too much for the poor Zangoose to bare. He cried out in anguish "You monster! Those were my friends! I swear I'll make you pay for this!" He let out a furious cry, tears running from his eyes as he recklessly charged the Hydreigon. The center head saw the opportunity to strike and descended upon the Zangoose. It was over in an instant. The Zangoose was surrounded in darkness as he crashed into something moist and fleshy. Warm breath wafted over him from above. His blood ran cold as the realization struck him; He was in the beast's mouth. The tongue quickly hooked under his legs and lifted him up further into the maw as the jaws closed down below him. Gravity shifted as the head raised back to its natural position, leaving the Zangoose lying forward on the tongue, facing the creature's abyssal throat. He could hear the squelching of the throat muscles as they yearned for him. He tried to scramble back from the pulsing throat, but he couldn't find purchase on the slippery tongue. Even worse, he could feel the head tilting, forcing him to slide towards the expecting gullet. He managed to turn himself around and tried to climb his way back up the tongue, but it was futile. His claws continued to slide down the slippery appendage until one of his feet was encased in rolling flesh. In an instant, he was pulled into the beast's throat. The Hydreigon wasted no time in swallowing his meal. With one long, powerful gulp, he sent the lump down his throat and into his body. The Zangoose was pulled down by pulsing flesh on all sides. In one continuous motion he slide down the throat with ease. He couldn't believe it was going to end like this. Being swallowed alive and whole to be digested within the belly of the beast. The only silver lining was that he would get to spend his last moments with his friends. At least they would all die together. With a loud slurp he was dropped into the stomach. He splashed down into a shallow liquid, the scent of acid and rotting meat assaulted his nose. He felt around and found that the stomach was quite spacious due to the creatures massive size. He stumbled around on the slippery undulating flesh, trying to find the location of his friends. "Braixen, Decidueye, where are you?" he called out, but there was on reply. How could that be? They couldn't have digested already, could they? He managed to press up against one of the stomach walls, the fluids oozing from it seeping into his fur. Among other bodily functions, he could swear that he heard gurgling and churning nearby. His blood ran cold again as he came to the realization... Dear Arceus, this thing had separate stomachs! He and his friends would not die together; They would each suffer in their own personal prisons of flesh. The Zangoose shouted in fury, attempting to dig his claws into stomach wall. But the flesh was incredibly durable and tough, he could feel his attacks sliding off harmlessly. Eventually he slumped against the stomach wall, exhausted from his effort to break free. Tears flowed from his eyes as despair began to take him. It was over; He was powerless; He was going to die here; Soon he would be nothing more than another pile of bones on the cave floor. How long would it take for the beast's stomach to digest him? Minutes? Hours? Days?! He hugged himself and began to shiver. As an adventurer, he had always been brave and courageous. But this... He wasn't prepared to face THIS. It was the first time he had ever felt true terror. It wasn't long before he could start the feel the effects of digestion. His feet began to burn from being submerged in caustic fluid, while the rest of his body felt tingly from the acid seeping into his fur. He sloshed around in the stomach, trying to find some reprieve from the relentless acids eating away at his body. He tried to climb the incline of the stomach walls, but it was no use, they were too slick to serve as a means to stay above the acid. He could feel the fur molting from his feet, leaving them raw and exposed. He grit his teeth as pain seared through his ravaged feet. He had a pretty high tolerance for pain, but he was quickly approaching his limit. Pieces of flesh began to flake away and dissolve into the caustic pool surrounding him. He cried out in pain and sank to one knee, submerging it in the vicious pool of acid. He took deep breaths, trying to endure the immense pain surging through his body. The fur quickly dissolved from his lower leg, adding to the slowly growing pool of chyme around him. His strength began to fail as the muscles in his leg and feet were subjected to the digestive enzymes of the stomach. With no more strength in his lower body, he collapsed forward into the pool of acid. Despite the futility of his situation, he survival instincts held strong. He used his arms to push his upper body out of the caustic fluid and held himself above the pool of acid. He could hear an audible sizzling as the fur on his face and chest began to dissolve from its short dip in the acid. He wasn't sure how long he could keep this up. His hands were already burning and his arms shuddered violently from the shock his body was going through. The pain was unbearable, his entire lower body felt like it was on fire and the rest of his body stung mercilessly from the constant exposure to the caustic environment. His thoughts briefly turned to his friends. He knew they must be suffering like he was. He imagined the Decidueye's feathers slowly melting from his body as the stomach claimed him. And Braixen, her beautiful fur was likely reduced to nothing but chyme by now, leaving her bare and frail against the harsh stomach environment. He wished he could have spared them such a grizzly fate, but alas, there was nothing he could do to help them now. He could only pray that their deaths would be quick and that they would be spared from the hell that he was going through. He couldn't focus anymore; The pain was too great. The flesh had melted from his hands leaving nothing but bone. Without muscles to support him, he collapsed forward once again. He managed to turn his head to the side, allowing a small portion of it to remain above the pool of acid and chyme. Digestive juiced flooded into his body, burning his mouth and throat. This was the end; He wouldn't survive much longer in the state he was in. Pain and burning overtook every one of his senses. He couldn't move his legs, which had all but dissolved by now. His arms could only twitch as they too were quickly consumed by the vicious stomach acids. He gasped desperately for breath, but only succeeded in flooding his lungs with acid. His mind was fading, the pain becoming more distant as his body shut down. With one final gasp, his body slumped down, now lying motionless in the pool of acid. The remainder of his lifeless body was quickly melted down into chyme and passed further into the digestive track, where it would mix with that of his friends. In a way, they had been reunited in the end. All that remained were his bleached bones, which the Hydreigon would eventually spit up, adding to the pile of countless victims it had already consumed.
