Something he hasn't felt in a long time. \n\nKnuckles, strong guardian of Angel Island and keeper of the Master Emerald barely gets to leave the so-called paradise he calls home. When asked by Sonic to join the adventure, he was at first reluctant to leave his post but he badly wanted to get off that hellhole of an island if only for a while. He just hoped Rouge kept her greedy hands off his emerald.\n\nWhen the battle was over and leaving Eggman's demolished fortress, all the excitement and adrenaline left Knuckles completely, because he knew what was bound to happen. It happens at the end of every adventure he's been on. \nHe had to go home.\nHe had a sample of freedom only for the taste to go sour. He hated this feeling. He really envied his friends...especially Sonic.\n\n\"Why can't I be free and do what I want like him?\"\n\nHe gritted his teeth already knowing the answer. \n\nKnuckles has a strong sense of duty and he gives his absolute all when it comes to the Master Emerald but he can't help but feel this guardian thing was depriving him of a real life. Scratch that. It is running his life. Turning his sore neck he looked out the window of Tails' flying contraption thing not quite remembering the name. They were currently flying in an horrible unforgiving storm. Tails, Sonic, Amy and himself to be exact. Most likely they were having a severe tornado watch. Mother Nature sure loves showing her ass. He was surprised Tails could navigate through this mess. It was good that the ride was smooth considering they were all bearing some serious injuries. He could deal without the pain but it was refreshing.\n\n\"We're almost to the island, Knuckles.\" Tails suddenly said. Knuckles frowned and turned away from the home he didn't want to go back to. \n\"Yeah...home.\" he mumbled. He knew how this goes. They'd drop him off, leave and he probably won't see nor hear from them for months on end, unless something goes down to where they need his assistance. Eggman visits him more then his own friends do and he was the enemy. His anger was already starting to boil. \n\"Some friends they are. They could at least give me a call sometimes.\" He thought bitterly. \n\nSoon they landed near the Master Emerald's altar. Knuckles looked at the altar and saw the glow of the mystical jewel. Even in this dark and dreadful storm the emerald was still ever so bright and radiant. When the glass dome hatches opened the rain pelted them, bringing sounds of annoyance from it's victims.\n\n\"Wow! What a great day to rain of all days.\" Sonic growled sarcastically as he tried his best to shield the injured Amy Rose who was in his lap. With out saying a word Knuckles climbed out of the vehicle as best his beaten body would allow him to and started to hobble towards the altar. \nSuddenly a powerful gust of wind blew almost knocking Knuckles off his weakened legs. He quickly held his ground not wanting to look weak in front of the others. \"Whoa! Are you alright Knucklehead?\" Sonic yelled over the howling wind. \n\n\"Why are they still here?\" After exchanges of good bye they'd usually be gone by now.\n\n\"I'm fine.\" He tried to yell but it hurt his chest.\n\n\"What?\" Sonic yelled.\n\n\"I said I was fi---ARGH!\" Knuckles yelled as he whipped around but now he wished he hadn't. He screamed in agony, falling to one knee as he caressed his rib cage. \"Knuckles!\" Amy gasped worriedly. She had no doubt in her mind that he had a few bruised or broken ribs. \"You don't look fine.\" Sonic yelled. \n\n\"Who asked you!?\" He snapped getting back to his feet. \"I don't have time to fool around with you! I've got a duty to do so just go home.\" With that he turned his back on them. Sonic's quills bristled violently in frustration. \"I've had it with you!\" he snarled. Tails frowned and rolled his eyes. \"Ugh! Here we go again...\"\n\"You might think you're big, bad and tough but you are in no position to guard anything, let alone stand properly! You come first, the Emmy can wait.\" he yelled as he tried to reason with Knuckles. \n\n\"Get off my Island!\" Knuckles screamed taking everyone aback. \" Go home! I don’t need you guys! I’ll be fine on my own like I always have! I don’t need anyone!\" \n\"Knuckles, please let us help you\" Tails begged. \"You’ve never asked me before if I didn’t want to be alone so why ask now?!” He spat, his fur and tendrils bristling. \"If you didn't want to be alone all you--\"\n\"Don't.\" Knuckles cut him off. \"Just go home.\" He growled as he continued on his way. Enraged, Sonic looked about ready to jump out his seat forgetting all about Amy sitting in his lap. Tails spoke up. \"Sonic, please, calm down.\" Tails knew it wasn't Amy and himself that Knuckles was angry with. It was Sonic. He glared at Tails. \"What?! I need to calm down?\" He said incredulously. \"He's the one who needs to take a chill pill!\" He hissed crossing his arms. \"Hurry up and start this thing I'm ready to go home.\"\n\"We can't leave!\" Amy cried. \"Knuckles needs our company. I can only imagine how lonely it must be for him to be isolated on this island.\" Sonic rolled his eyes to this. \"News flash Ames, he just told us to kick rocks. That means he doesn't want us here and I'm happy to oblige. Let's go home!\"\n\"You're horrible!\" Amy gasped in disbelief and disgust. \"Just because he said he wants us to go doesn't mean it's true. If you're not going to be there for him when he needs us most then I'll stay. You two can just go.\" She said struggling to get out of the vehicle to follow Knuckles.\n\"What'd I do?!\" Tails whined. \"Not backing me up that's what.\" Amy said hobbling after Knuckles. Tails groaned and held the bridge of his nose.\n\n\"Maybe we should leave her.\" Sonic said. \"She'll be calling us back when she realizes Knucklehead is a lost cause.\" Tails looked at Sonic with disapproval. \"...this is exactly what Knuckles was talking about...\" Tails said under his breath and shook his head. \"What'd you say!?\" Sonic snapped. \"I said we're S-O-L[i] (1)[/i]. The Typhoon is low on energy and we wouldn't make it back. Get comfortable cause we're staying.\" He said frowning at Sonic.\n\n\"Bet you're lying.\" Sonic mumbled but it didn't go unheard. \n\n\"Ignore.\" Tails climbed out of the Typhoon and walked to the altar leaving a pissed off Sonic alone in the rain.\n\n\n\nThe Altar\n\nKnuckles panted as he got to the last step at the top of the altar. The Master Emerald seemingly sensing Knuckles distress reached out with its power beckoning Knuckles to come closer. He collapsed to his knees and leaned on the emerald. The warmth of the jewel on his battered body felt good. Slowly the emerald started to glow more brightly engulfing Knuckles as it pushed its power into him. \n\nTails and Amy watched Knuckles in silence as he healed, patiently waiting their turn. Sonic was just reaching the top of the altar and he didn't look pleased.\n\"Why are we all up here? What's going on?\" Sonic asked as he watched Knuckles. \n\"Shut up! I'm trying to concentrate.\" Knuckles shouted at Sonic. He then started to chant in some unknown language, the Master Emerald glowing brighter. The light disappeared as soon as it came to reveal Knuckles in his hyper from. He was completely healed and unscathed. Knuckles walked over to Tails and Amy, holding his hand out to them. They both put their hands upon Knuckle's much larger hands. Sonic watched in awe and anger as he realized knuckles was healing them. \n\"You're able to heal?!\" Sonic growled.\nKnuckles turned to look at him. “The Master Emerald can do just about anything. Even heal wounds.” Knuckles explained. \n“So that’s why you’re always better before us.\"\n\"More like better before you. Tails and Amy known of my ability for a while.\" \n\"Why haven’t you told me about this before?” sonic growled.\n “Because you’ve never stuck around long enough for me to tell you!” Knuckles yelled. “You know what forget it. Just come here and I'll heal you...unless you’ve got better things to do.” He sneered. “No, I think I want you to come over here Red.” Sonic said smirking.\n Knuckles was getting tired of Sonic and his assery. “Okay. if say so.” He smirked darkly as he quickly approached Sonic not giving him time to react. He grabbed Sonic’s face with one of his large hands and pushed in the last of his power into Sonic. Sonic’s scream was muffled as he spazzed and flailed about as if he was electrocuted. Tails and Amy could only watch in horror. Sonic then slightly turned super as smoked rose from his body. Suddenly Sonic was shot backwards crashing into a pillar. Knuckles smiled and brushed his hands off. \n“Lets get to the house shall we? I’m starving.” And with that Knuckles walked off whistling happily. “Sonic?” Amy Asked. “………….” He was out. “Don’t worry about Sonic. He deserved it anyway.
