Snowy Season of Discovery: A Beastars Fanfic Huffing against the cool air, a tall brown wolf pushed all of her books into her locker. Winter was setting in, the Cherryton Academy school keeping the building itself rather chilly to encourage the seasonal changes between different species. Juno, who was barely able to close and lock her locker, was experiencing the worst of it: first the warmer navy-blue winter uniform for her was late, leaving her colder than usual, and her fur wasn’t growing a winter coat! Annoying as it was, it wasn’t the worst that could happen. Juno would head out of the main building she had her first-year classes in, looking up to the grey clouds with her vibrant blue eyes. The trees barren of leaves, the Christmas decorations around the buildings, and even the white rabbit approaching set a nice view for the wolf. Then, Juno came to her senses, looking down towards Haru. The rabbit, dressed in the navy-colored winter uniform with the third-year green tie, came up to the brown wolf with a smile and a wave. “Hey, Juno! It’s nice to see you again!” The cheery rabbit called out to the wolf barely over double her height. Focusing her eyes on her, the wolf restrained her urge to walk away. Juno gave a warm smile back. “Hi, it’s nice to see you too, Haru. What are you doing here? I thought the third-year building was on the other side of campus?” There was a hidden bite in the words, almost asking when Haru was in ‘her territory.’ She watched attentively as the dwarf rabbit pulled herself on top of a nearby bench to be more face to face with the towering wolf. “Nope!” Haru grunted while standing on the wood bench, still having to look up into Juno’s eyes. “It’s dead center of the campus, right after the gates. I wanted to see if you’ll help me with my plants again, like earlier this year? It’s going to start snowing tomorrow, so I want some help getting everything situated. Shouldn’t take more than the evening to get it all done and… I’ll treat you to dinner after?” Juno gave a skeptical look. Crossing her arms over her chest, looking at Haru for a moment, trying to judge the rabbit for a moment. Her eyes narrowed before she started to speak. “And you’re coming to me because…?” Huffing at the reaction, the white rabbit crossed her arms over her chest, mimicking the brown wolf before her. “You know I have a bad reputation with second and third years, while also being the only one in my club. That and you’re helpful.” The rabbit seemed genuine. “And tall.” She tacked on at the end. “And why didn’t you do it earlier?” The wolf continued near instantly after the rabbit finished speaking her sentence, almost cutting into the words with a sharp air. Furrowing her brow and giving a glare towards Juno, Haru let out an equally sharp and frustrated sigh. “Because I was busy with work, school, and prepping for my early graduation. If you don’t want to do it, that’s all you have to say.” The angry expression on the rabbit’s face was oddly cute to the brown wolf, the frustration endearing in a way. Juno saw an angry Haru like she was a fussy marshmallow. “Well… I can help! If you can help me study for finals, too?” Juno said, her voice rising in interest. She took a step toward the third-year’s building, where the garden Haru tended was. “If you need the help, I’ll help! Dinner sounds good, too.” It was a rather sudden shift in attitude after seeing the cute bunny being fussy. Having a bit of tonal whiplash from the wolf’s sudden agreement to help, Haru hopped down from the bench. “Okay? What do you need help with?” She said while beginning to walk down the path, going as fast as she could to keep pace with Juno. The wolf slowed down a little to keep the rabbit close, almost side by side with her leading just a little. “I have a mixed anthropology and biology exam coming up. Mr. Vulpes. Got any advice with him?” Haru blew a raspberry, shaking her head slowly. “How about I just give you my notes? Those essay questions were SUCH a nightmare.” The rabbit groaned to herself about a class she hated. Haru tripped on nothing before catching herself and taking the lead ahead of Juno, stumbling forward before righting herself fully. “I should know, actually had nightmares when I passed out studying.” “They’re that bad? I heard a few second years complain, but I didn’t think it was actually that bad.” Juno commented with a light yet energetic voice, opening the door to the building and allowing the rabbit go in first. “Oh, uh… go up the stairs before me?” The wolf said, placing a hand on her skirt to push it down. Nodding with instant understanding, Haru went up the smaller set of steps towards the stairs. “Oh, speaking of, has your winter uniform not come in? Or does it not fit?” She asked, turning back for a moment to look at Juno. “I know when I first got mine, it was a size or two too large.” Once up the stairs, the bunny pushed open the door to the gardening club. The desolate rooftop free from any living thing aside from plants and the approaching pair of mammals. With a sigh and a wave of her hand, Juno stepped onto the concrete floor of the rooftop garden. “Hasn’t come in yet. It was supposed to be here last week. Don’t they prioritize the herbivores? Smaller bodies and all?” The wolf approached a row of flowers planted in large boxes, shivering with the chilly air while looking at the plants without any buds or blooms. “Right.” Haru said, struggling to push a box of equipment out from under a table. “I was actually the first in my class to get it. Louis was one of the last, too. Oh, here, dig out the dying flowers in that one, please?” The rabbit said while handing Juno a trowel, one that was a little small for the larger animal’s hand. Taken by surprise, the brown wolf was quiet for a moment while digging the metal tool into the dirt. Pressing pass the hardened, cooled soil to uproot the dead plant for discarding, Juno hesitated for a moment before speaking. “Haru?” Her voice was a little colder, not as energetic, almost as if she was interrogating the bunny to her side. “Hm?” The white rabbit looked up from the tool box, her dark eyes looking directly at Juno. “Why did you come to me? Aren’t you sleeping with Louis AND Legoshi?” The brown wolf’s voice dropped into more passive rage. Her eyes shone like diamond as they glared towards Haru. Teeth hidden from the angle of her glare, despite her snarling silently. Tilting her head, it was almost like the white rabbit didn’t realize the anger in Juno’s voice. Being aware of it and not wanting to make it obvious, Haru turned her back on the wolf and began working on another plot of flowers. “First off, I’m not sleeping with either of them. Louis and I happened, but didn’t last as long as you think. Legoshi and I slept in the same bed, but didn’t… sleep together, if you know what I mean.” Her voice was calm and calculated, if not a little cocky with how sure of herself she was. “And, why you?” Haru continued, “Because I like being around you. And I can actually get consistent help from you. I know… you don’t like me, but you’re still nice enough to make a deal? Exam help for helping me with my garden?” The rabbit turned around to face the wolf, a small smile stretching across her fluffy cheeks. Once making her point known, Haru turned her back on the brown wolf one again to continue working on the plot of dirt. Taken completely by surprise, Juno just looked forward at the white rabbit in disbelief. Silence and shock filled her face. The canine looked away and continued to thrust her spade into the chilled ground to prune all the weeds and dead flowers out. The words Haru spoke were like a trowel digging into Juno’s mind, making her unsure of what to even say at this point or even how to feel about the rabbit she was so jealous of. Just that declaration of not doing what the wolf assumed and stating that she wanted to be friends threw the confused dog for a loop, so much so she lost track of time robotically doing the task asked of her. “Uh… Juno? Hello?” Haru started talking from behind the wolf, who jumped with the unexpected words. “Are you okay?” The concerned rabbit walked in front of the wolf, dark eyes looking towards the canine. She was about eye level with the crouching canine, her head tilted in curiosity. “Okay!” Juno blurted out to the question, completely caught off guard before composing herself with a deep breath. Turning to the rabbit with an uneasy smile, her blue eyes spied the two mugs that Haru was holding. “Sorry, I… spaced out for a bit. What is that?” Haru offered a mug with warm steam rolling off the top of it, the amber hue and sweet aroma tickling Juno’s nose. “It’s apple cider. Fresh and hot. Are you sure you’re okay? I think the cold’s getting to you.” The rabbit assumed, giving the wolf a little encouragement to get up and follow her. “Wow, you wolves are always bad at taking care of yourselves. Come inside?” Haru said with a slightly worried, almost motherly tone as she reached out to Juno, offering the mug. Taking it all in one bit at a time, the wolf grasped the warm mug and took a long, slow sip of the sweet, warm liquid. “Wait, did we finish cleaning up your garden?” Juno asked, following the white rabbit into the little solo dorm Haru had on the roof. The sudden burst of warm air of the little dorm on the roof made her feel like she was traveling to a wonderland. “Yep! You did a lot of it, and pretty quick, too.” The rabbit complimented, taking a sip of her own drink before closing the door behind Juno. “I have it pretty warm in here. Let me know if you’re comfortable or not.” Haru was calm as if she’s done this a lot before, putting her mug down on the short counter before checking on a pot of noodles. Her quick legs carried her across the room almost effortlessly. Juno looked down at Haru with a curious look, a soft smile appearing on her lips while looking at the small rabbit. Setting her own mug on the table, set just a little higher, the wolf approached the rabbit. Leaning down, Juno wrapped her arms around the soft, warm bunny, giving Haru a hug from behind. She was effectively kneeling with how low she got, the surprised rabbit smiling and laughing a bit with the hug. “What? Did you think I was your dinner, silly dog?” Haru said in a light hearted and joking tone, tilting the pot of noodles so Juno could see. “I threw three servings for herbivores in there, so… I hope two servings is enough for you.” The rabbit said, turning her head to the wolf before giving her a kiss on the cheek, not realizing what she did until the moment it happened. One hand on the pot handle and the other on the spoon stirring the noodles, life continued for a moment. Then Haru froze in the middle of a stir. Her wide, dark eyes stared into the noodles. A blush began to appear on the bunny’s face, feeling the piercing blue eyes of the much larger wolf turn and look at her in confusion. Fear ramped up in Haru’s body like a rollercoaster, her heart beating loud enough for the sensitive wolf ears to hear. “I-I, uh…” The rabbit stumbled over herself, unsure what to say at this point while looking into the vibrant eyes of the predator before her. Seeing the cool blue staring back, a shiver went down the rabbit’s spine. “Was that… on purpose?” Juno asked in a calm voice, a slight unsettling tone rising in the back of her voice as she spoke. “Haru… did you come to me for something more than flowers?” She continued, not hearing a response from the scared rabbit within her grasp. Swallowing in nervousness, Haru forced an uneasy smile as she tried to get leverage away from the brown wolf’s arms. “W-well, uh, y-yes? Dinner?” The suffocating closeness was getting to the bunny, being close enough to feel Juno’s unsatisfied exhale against her face. “I-I really did need help!” She added on in a mild panic, releasing the pot and spoon while putting her white furred hands against the canine’s arm, trying to free herself. “Then why would you have asked me to dinner? Or make me apple cider?” Juno struggled to talk to the rabbit, her frustration of assuming she was a love doll to the bunny starting to boil over. “What, Haru, were you going to offer me to sleep in your bed because it’s too cold outside? What next, get naked to share body heat?” Accusations flew like cherry blossoms in a snow storm from the wolf’s mouth. With her brow furrowing once again, Haru looked up into Junos eyes as if she was staring down a mouse. “Oh, you have an issue with me being nice to you? If it makes you so mad, just bite me!” The rabbit flicked the wolf’s nose! The attack made Juno groan in mild pain and release the smaller animal. “I know you don’t like me and I wanted to mend our relationship. If my kindness infuriates you, then use those powerful jaws and devour me!” The bold bunny confidently pushed in further, pressing her nose to Juno’s snoot, even though it was covered by her brown furred hands. Looking forward, her brow also furrowed with anger, the wolf growled lowly with her sharp fangs obscured by her hands. “Was the kiss on purpose? Do you like me in… that way?” There was a hint of vulnerability within her voice as she spoke quickly. Anger subsided for a fraction of a second until those eyes were alight again like blue fire. Groaning in her frustration and rolling her eyes, Haru planted her hands against Juno’s fluffy cheeks. “No. Do you want it to be? Do you want me to kiss you right on the lips so you know it’s completely on purpose?” It was like she didn’t realize what she was saying, although internally the bunny was screaming her head off on how forward she was being. Blinking slowly, Juno stared directly at the rabbit in front of her, resting her arms down by her sides. There was confusion filling her mind about how she felt with Haru, the confusion leading into a passive frustration. Taking a deep and shaky breath, Juno closed her eyes and didn’t see the bunny’s curious expression breaking through her own anger. “Just… why do you like me?” The wolf finally asked, all of her anger drained away as she slumped lower to be at eye level with Haru. “Why do I… like you?” The rabbit said with a confused tone, keeping her hands gently on Juno’s cheeks. “I already told you one reason: because you’re nice to me when you don’t like me. The other, well… might upset you.” Haru cautioned, giving a nervous laugh while leaning in. The power she had over the wolf was a good feeling, having the powerful canine in her hand, but also concerning to herself of what could happen if she said the wrong thing. It was like playing with fire in every possible way. Lashing out verbally, Juno’s voice gained a growl as she shouted. “I don’t care! I just want to know what you see in me to do… all of this.” Scoffing as she finished her sentence, the blue eyes swirled with anger and uncertainty flashed up into Haru’s dark eyes. “I bet you haven’t asked someone to help you with your flowers twice before, and-” “Juno.” The rabbit interrupted, giving as firm of a squeeze on the wolf’s cheeks as her small hands could muster to get her attention back in focus. “Stop and listen. I like you because you’re… the best parts of Legoshi and Louis. And even more on top of that.” She whispered in a dry tone. Her eyes looked deeply, longingly into the shocked, electric blue eyes of the canine. “You excite the same feelings in me both of them do, but with just… something extra, I can’t put my finger on it. Like you don’t… worry about me, talk down to me, just… see eye to eye and talk like there’s nothing different.” Haru confessed her feelings to Juno. The brown wolf slowly reached one of her hands up to caress the white bunny’s hand on her cheek. Haru’s eyes, a dark abyss that led to nothing but genuine affection, entirely captivated the dog. Just staring into the rabbit’s eyes like it was the last painting left in the world, full of intricate brushstrokes and perfect imperfections. Hesitating, mouth slightly agape with a lack of words, Juno closed her mouth and took a deep breath. The feelings bubbling up inside of her made no sense, making her uncertain and even aimless on what to do next. Forgoing thought on her next action, the brown wolf rested her other hand against Haru’s cheek, slowly leaning forward towards the rabbit. Both of them could feel the tension rising in the air and in each other, the blizzard of emotions flying around the room like a horrible storm that gave way to this moment of silence. Juno pressed in, gently pressing her lips against the white rabbit’s soft lips in a loving, genuine kiss. Kissing back, Haru pressed her warm and small body against the wolf’s torso, closing her eyes as she enjoyed the momentary bliss. The only sounds in the room were the boiling noodles and the swishing Juno’s tail made as it wagged against the hardwood floor. Neither attempted to go further, each allowing the other to back away and catch their breath. “Juno?” Haru sighed out, a compassionate and caring tone in her voice as she addressed the wolf. “Are you okay?” She said in a hushed tone, as if to not disturb the loving moment they created on the ground in front of the finished, yet still cooking, meal. Taking a moment to think, the wolf nodded slowly. “I’m okay. Yea… I’m okay now.” Juno wrapped her arms around the rabbit before her, drawing the white furred bunny in close into a warm embrace. Reaching over to push the pot off of the heated eye, the wolf looked outside the window. “I’m glad. You kinda had me worried there for a second.” Haru laughed it off, pressing her face into the warm crook of Juno’s neck. The warmth and comfort that she felt was just pure wonder, the soft fur being perfect against her own fluff. The wolf laughed as well for a moment, running her hand along the navy blue back of Haru’s winter uniform. “Well… I don’t mean to intrude, but can I… sleep here for the night?” As Juno finished her question, the white rabbit came off of the canine to look at her in confusion. With a simple point, the brown wolf showed Haru that it was snowing outside the window, the snowflakes harmlessly draping the rooftop in a fine powder. Smiling to herself and laughing it off, the white rabbit rested her head against the brown wolf’s chest. “I don’t mind. I’m small enough to sleep with you and give you space.” After getting off of the ground and getting to the table, the pair began to eat their meal. Even from across the table there was a general tension, although it was a pleasurable bit of static between them. It was more akin to interest, not wanting to take their eyes off the other, wanting to know more and talk between bites of messy noodles. Juno took large bites from her double sized bowl, her eager eyes watching Haru struggle to keep up with her smaller proportion. While eating and swallowing, Haru was the first to break the food filled silence. “Oh, and, uh… you didn’t catch it, but I had to run off to make apple cider. I was going to make hot chocolate, because less prep, but I remembered canines can’t handle chocolate, so… I thought you would appreciate something sweet and not poisonous.” She nervously joked at the end, unsure if it was mildly offensive or not to Juno. “Oh, I just thought you liked it.” The wolf said dryly, looking at the amber liquid within her mug with a curious look. “Well… that’s very thoughtful of you. I really didn’t know you thought this much about me, Haru.” Juno confessed, finishing her meal with a final chomp of noodles. Tilting her head, ears perking up, the white rabbit looked confused at the statement. “Why? What made you think I didn’t like you?” She asked, hopping down from her chair and began to undo her white necktie. “I guess it’s more how I felt about you making me think you felt the same way.” The canine sighed, looking away from the rabbit who began to strip. “What are you…?” Juno trailed off, realizing what the rabbit was doing. “I’m taking off my uniform so it doesn’t crease in bed.” Haru explained, undoing the belt from around her midsection and stripping out of the uniform. “You should do the same, but… I don’t think you packed any sleeping clothes.” The rabbit joked, walking away further to get behind a privacy screen to strip and change. With a sigh, the wolf looked at her white, summer uniform, wondering if it was a good idea to wear the already wrinkly uniform in bed. Blushing with an idea, Juno turned to see the silhouette of Haru through the privacy screen. “I think… I’ll take it off. My underwear isn’t that revealing and….” “Something about sharing body heat?” The white rabbit joked from behind the screen, folding the navy-blue uniform into a neat stack of clothing. “If you’re sure, then I’ll stay in my underwear, too. Or would you be more comfortable with me in more clothes?” Haru asked the wolf’s opinion in a nonchalant way, as if it happened many times over. Stunned for a moment at the suggestion, Juno looked over toward the rabbit’s figure with a shocked look. “I-I, uh… whatever you prefer?” The canine said unsure of herself, beginning to undo her own necktie and belt to strip to her underwear. There was no one to see her undress other than Haru, hidden behind an opaque privacy screen, taking some pressure off of her while getting down to her underwear. The white rabbit came out with a set of grey underwear on, carrying her stacked clothes in front of her. “Okay. You can go on and get in bed, I’ll get the lights.” Haru calmly spoke, setting her clothes to the side. “And if you feel uncomfortable, please let me know?” With the calmness in the bunny’s voice, Juno could only assume all of this was part of her plan! There was no way a rabbit as small as Haru could be such a scheming animal, able to coerce the wolf into getting down to her black underwear on their second private meeting. However, Juno did find herself walking toward the bed, getting her tall form situated under the weighted blanket with a low burning eagerness to be so close, so intimate with the rabbit. There was a click as the lights within the room turned off, the form of the white rabbit barely able to be seen in the darkness. Haru’s footsteps slowly approached the bed, a soft huff from her as she pulled herself up next to Juno. The wolf shuddered with the warmth of the white fur against her fluff, the smaller rabbit wiggling into the bed under the weighted blanket. Sharing warmth in bed after a long day of school and a bit of fighting felt somewhat surreal. Haru shifted under the blanket, resting her head on the large pillow near Juno’s face. In the dim, snowy moon light, the wolf could barely see the white rabbit looking directly at her with a smile on her face. “Good night, Juno.” Haru said softly, as if the brown wolf before her was already sleeping. Hesitantly, the canine wrapped one of her arms around the rabbit’s back, pulling her just a bit closer into a warm embrace. “Does this… mean that we’re dating?” Juno whispered back, as if it was a dreadful secret. “I’ve never… slept in the same bed as anyone else, let alone an older, herbivore woman.” She continued with her feelings, an uneasiness in her voice as she laid cuddled up and embracing Haru, the one she was nervous about. “Juno…” The white rabbit sighed, pressing one of her hands to the neck of the wolf before sliding up to gently cup her brown furred cheek. “It means what you want it to mean. If you want to date, we can. If you want to leave first thing in the morning, you can. If you want me to offer myself to you, I can.” Haru laughed to herself with the joke about being devoured, shaking her head at the same time. “I’m sorry?” Juno spoke in a more normal tone, starting to sit up from the bed and pulling herself away from Haru for a moment. “Offer yourself… what? Is there… some other reason you want to be with me?” The wolf spoke in an startled, yet deeply concerned voice, keeping her hand firmly on the rabbit’s back. She could feel Haru’s quickening heartbeat, the silence from the rabbit answering some of the confused wolf’s questions. This time, Haru was the one who hesitated to say anything, slowly sitting up next to the wolf. There was a big sigh from the rabbit, her gaze clearly averted from the wolf. “I just… have complicated feelings with you.” She struggled to speak, the soft squeaks in the back of her throat evident of it. “You remind me so much of Louis and Legoshi, but have… something more. They… make me scared. You make me scared and so much more.” Feeling the tension in the air, Haru sighed and laid down in the bed once again. “I’m sorry… I don’t know what I’m saying.” Releasing the rabbit and looking down toward her, Juno narrowed her eyes. “I make you scared?” She said in a mild anger, unsure what to say. “Am I just… a cheap thrill for you?” “No! No, you’re nothing like that.” Haru clarified, groaning as she put her hands over her face. “I just… have a horrible fetish and you scare me in a way that gets me aroused.” The rabbit spat out, throwing the ill-thought words into the wind. “But you just… everything else outside of that? You have such… a presence in any room you’re in. You’re so kind, yet have grudges and get angry, without ever showing it in public. I just-” “Stop.” Juno said in a firm voice, her tight grasp pulling Haru’s hands from her face to over her head, pinning her arms and ears down. With silence hanging in the air, each of the animals could feel the heat from the other’s breath. “You told me things I could do if I wanted. What do you want, Haru? Do you want me to devour you? To leave you? To stay with you?” She mimicked the rabbit’s words, staring down the bunny with an icy glare. Frozen in fear, Haru looked up into Juno’s face, barely able to see the intense expression and the slight snarl of her powerful jaw. “I-I….” She couldn’t speak, feeling the force of the wolf looming over her. Every tense muscle in Juno’s body was felt with just the trembling bunny, fear in her mind while looking directly into the vibrant blue eyes. “P-please stay… just for the night, at least?” There was silence in the air as the brown wolf laid down next to Haru, pulling the rabbit in close. By the way they were laying, the rabbit was looking away from Juno as the powerful claws held around the prey’s torso. The warm heat of a sigh came rolling out over the white fur of Haru’s ears, making the bunny tremble in anticipation, thinking it would be- “I’m sorry.” Juno said softly, holding Haru firmly. “I just… good night, Haru.” She whispered out in a somewhat sad and apologetic tone, dragging the blanket back over their bodies. “It’s okay. We’ll talk tomorrow, okay?” Haru replied, looking over her shoulder towards the unresponsive canine. Nodding quietly to herself, the bunny gently held one of the powerful paws on her belly. “Good night, Juno. Sleep well.”
