One way or the other the gods of war demand that the dry soil of the earth be whetted with crimson blood.\n\nHowever the attention of the gods as well as their favor can be directed towards one city state or another so long as the priests of such cities follow the proper rituals and present pleasing sacrifices of young prisoner-slaves. \n\nHowever the death of these sacrificial boys is not enough to draw the favor of the wrathful war gods. Nor is blood alone enough either. For war is a time when emotions run high, and so must it be in the offerings made to the gods. \n\nThus in altars across the lands, boys taken from enemy nations are held bare upon altars. The slow cutting of dull knives upon tender flesh drawing forth not only the life's blood of the victims, but bringing forth fear, tears and pain as well. The kaleidoscope of emotions and pained sensations of the dying victims drawing forth the attention and favor of the cruel gods during the season of war in the belief that such attentions will bring the favor of the gods and thus secure victories of the armies. \n\nSuch is as we see here. The priest, with years of experience expertly slides the dull knife slowly back and forth in a ritualistic rhythm all designed to prolong the sacrifices suffering to whet the appetite of their city state's chosen god of war. The ritual cloth gag in the doomed boy's mouth removed so that his cries may further entice the local god of war to draw it's attention to this particular altar.
