The cool air filled the tent with a feline boy getting ready for the day by dressing in his training armor. Kai, a 14-year-old feline with brown fur, purple eyes, and a slim but slightly muscular body, is getting ready for training with his sensei. He puts on his armor sleeves for his legs and arms. Then he puts on his headband, fundoshi, and kodachi.\n\nWith one final check, he exited the tent to an active camp. Everyone in this hunter tribe has a task they must do to make sure everyone thrives in the group. Kai even had his own assignment he needed to complete before training. Today, the feline is required to help the blacksmith of the group.\n\n“Hey Kai, Good Morning!” A muscular feline called out to Kai as he passed by them working.\n\n“Hi, senior!” Kai replied with a happy attitude. He continues to greet everyone as he walks past them. He has been with these people since he survived a monster attack several years ago. A ferocious griffin ambushed Kai on his travels with a nomad troop. Luckily, he was found right before he was about to die, but he was the only one to live while the others perished. Since then, he has been training to ensure nothing like that ever happened to him again. \n\nAll of a sudden, he snaps out of his memories; Kai remembers that he needs to get to the blacksmith’s tent to start his day, which is why he hurried his butt to Aya before he got in trouble for being late. Regrettably, the blacksmith, Aya, a dark elf, lectured him because he was late. As for his punishment, Kai had to get materials from the store tent on the other side of the camp and run back for Aya to use them for the next couple of hours. By the end, the feline was sweating from head to toe since he could not take a break.\n\nAya got a good chuckle as she handed the male a water-filled waterskin. Kai gladly accepted it and drank the water. Once he was done, he gave it back to her. A friendly smile appeared on the female as she turned around to get something and returned to him.\n\n“Good job Kai! That’s all I need from you today. Go to Daisuke to get your training done.” Aya told the male as she patted the boy on the back. Kai is happy he was able to be beneficial to her. Before he could say anything, she gave him a dagger with a sheath and rope as a present. This confused Kai because it was not his birthday yet. But Aya told him that she appreciated his help and wanted him to have it.\n\n“Thanks, senior Aya, but I have nowhere to carry it.” Kai said as he pointed that out as he looked around his body.\n\n“Hehe! Silly Kai, it would be best if you used your imagination. Sometimes, thinking outside the box will save your life. Remember that!” Aya told Kai as she took the dagger, pulled down his left leg sleeve, and tied it around his leg before pulling the sleeve back up.\n\n“Now, off with you! I want to hear you beating Daisuke later.” The woman smiled at the young boy as he ran to his teacher. Kai did as he was told and went to his sensei for training.\n\nEven after all this time, Kai could not land one blow against his teacher. This did not stop Daisuke, a muscular orange-fur feline, from beating his student repeatedly throughout the boy’s training. Afterward, they went to Daisuke’s tent to discuss something vital as they sat down. \n\n“Kai! Today, you have a special assignment that we will be giving you. But before that, answer these questions. What is a katakirauwa? What are their strengths and weaknesses?” Daisuke asked the boy, looking at him intensely. Maybe the massive scar across his face scares people from getting to know the male. Because people in cities and towns usually avoided him. Nonetheless, Kai needed to get everything right, or his sensei would not allow the boy to do this assignment. \n\n“Sir! A katakirauwa is a demonic pig. They usually have black skin but can have light green skin too. They have one ear missing, with scars over their bodies and red eyes. A katakirauwa's greatest strength is that it will eat your soul in seconds if it runs under your legs. But that is also their weakness, Sir. Since their strategy is to charge underneath their targets’ legs, it makes them predictable. You can kill one by cutting its head off or piercing the brain.” Kai answered to the best of his ability to remember said creature. He has been studying monsters for years at this point.\n\nDaisuke is pleased to hear his pupils answer his questions correctly. Nevertheless, he did not show it on his face. The senior male wanted the boy to understand how serious this task was about to be asked of him.\n\n“Kai, it has been decided by the elders that you will do a solo hunt tonight,” Daisuke told the boy as he handed the young male an envelope with an address and key. \n\n“Your task is to hunt and kill the two katakirauwa inside the client’s house. You will have forty-eight hours to complete your assignment. If you fail, do not bother coming back. Bring their heads back as proof that you have killed those abominations.” Daisuke told Kai in a stern voice.\n\nThis was it; the day Kai had been waiting for years as finally arrived. His solo hunt is where he will not have any help from anyone. Failure was not an option. It's not like he has never been on a hunt before, but he always had his seniors to help him out. However, tonight will determine his fate inside the group. If he fails, he will be exiled. But if he succeeds, his role in the Stalker organization will be determined, and he will be given a title and rank.\n\nThe feline took the envelope. Then he bowed his head to show his sensei his respect. His determination will not allow him to fail as he wants to make everyone happy from the hunt. No, in all honesty, he wanted to make his teacher proud of him.\n\n“You will leave in the hour and travel to the Toyohara, five hours away from us. Kai, make us all proud and prove to yourself that you are worthy of being a Stalker.” Daisuke told the boy before he dismissed them. But before Kai could leave, his teacher had one more thing to say to him.\n\n“Make sure you are aware of your surroundings at all times. Never underestimate your opponent, Kai. The shaman has foretold of a storm tonight. Be careful!” Daisuke told his pupil before they left his tent.\n\nKai departed the camp imminently with his backpack, a lantern, matches, medical supplies, and rations. He also needed something to use to carry his prey’s heads. The feline knew he needed to take his hunt seriously, but simultaneously, he was excited. Who wouldn’t be on their first hunt? After all, his prey was nothing but stupid pigs. Kia kept smiling until he reached the city in a couple of hours. \n\nBy then, it was dusk with dark clouds in the sky, which meant the shaman was right as always with their predictions. But once he walks inside the vibrant city, he is speechless and loses himself in his thoughts. The city lights, vast crowds of people, food stalls, and lively environment made Kai enjoy the atmosphere. Since he was hungry, he wanted to explore the city and eat tasty food. Unfortunately, he needed to focus now. Kai gets back on track with his hunt as he continues his journey into the deeper parts of the city.\n\nThe Sumi district used to be a thriving community at the end of the city. All the famous merchants, nobles, and anyone with money lived there. Unfortunately, as with all progress, the district was left behind after a decade for unknown reasons. One day, everyone moved out all of a sudden. To this day, no one in the city knows what happened or why no one lives in the district anymore.\n\nKai glanced at each house, which was a mansion. Each one he passed was at least three stories tall, with an enormous estate attached to the houses. When he found the correct address, the sun had gone down completely. The feline took out his lantern to light it. With the illumination, Kai could tell the house had not been lived in a while. It was not in total shambles, but the weeds covered the front lawn, a dreary exterior with faded paint and broken windows. If the male had to guess, a merchant used to live here before the demonic infection with the god-awful statues of a cat with a coin in its mouth by the entrance. \n\nSuddenly, the feline looked into the sky because he felt a raindrop on his face. He needs to hurry and get inside before he is completely soaked from the rain as it starts. Thanks to the client giving him the key, Kai walked through the front door. The boy saw inside the house being desolate, too. There was broken furniture by the front door that used to be a bench, but the legs were snapped off and lying all over the area. Kai gently laid down his backpack on the ground. Then he found the light switch on the wall, but nothing happened when he flicked it on.\n\n“Great! (sigh) Okay, let’s do this the good old-fashioned way.” Kai said to himself as he began walking before taking his sword out of his sheath. \n\nThe only sound that could be heard now was from the feline as he slowly walked down a hallway. Kai kept his guard up as he checked each room before he moved on. The first is the living room with all the furniture covered with white cloths and dust. The dining room was the same, with everything covered up, too. It was clear that the client had not lived in this house for some time, but why leave all this stuff inside the house? Something scared the client so bad that they left in a hurry.\n\nSuddenly, a crash echoed throughout the house. Kai jumped from this but quickly pulled himself together. He went back out into the hallway to the end of the house as he followed an inaudible sound. The feline found the kitchen with pans and broken utensils on the floor. But Kai knew he was getting closer since he had heard something munching on the opposite side of the kitchen. \n\nWithout making any noise, Kai walked slowly across the room to see a broken door with a massive hole in the bottom. It seemed to lead into a storage room. Right by the door now, he peaked down to see a mammal two feet tall with its back against the door, eating some sauce from a jar. Kai gently laid his lantern on the ground by the door before slowly opening it. Praying to the gods, it did not squeak at all. A surprise attack is a hunter's best advantage against its prey.\n\nKai’s heart felt like it would burst out of his chest any minute as he got the door open enough for him to squeeze through the gap. He tries to calm himself down as he stealthily walks behind the creature. It was, in fact, a katakirauwa who was almost done eating as the feline raised his sword above his head to attack. Unexpectedly, Kai crushed a broken piece of wood from the door under his foot. In disbelief/shock, the boy froze in place when the demon turned its head around quickly to look at him. Either by his training or muscle response, Kai thrusts his sword down as hard as possible without thinking. The demonic pig did not have time to react as the boy’s sword pierced his skull. Kai did not hold back which caused his sword to go through the pigs’ head and the floor underneath them.\n\nThe katakirauwa shrieked for a split second before it died right there. Blood ran down its head and onto the floor. At the same time, the demonic pig’s eyes rolled back into its skull. If he had not gotten the jump, he would possibly be dead or hurt right now. Fortunately, that was not the case as his training kicked in. With a flick of his wrist, he rips his sword out of the dead beast, causing blood to splatter on the selves. The feline uses his blade to decapitate the katakirauwa to be safe as the head rolls on the floor.\n\nHis best decision is to leave it here for now as he hunts for the other demon. Kai left the storage room and grabbed his lantern from the floor. He noticed that there was still blood dripping from his weapon. The feline swings his sword to get the remaining blood off, but this causes the blood to spray across the floor. \n\n“One down and one more to go,” Kai said as he continued his search. After another twenty minutes of exploring the first floor, he concluded that the other demon must be on the second or third level. He hoped it wasn’t on the last one because he wanted to finish this hunt quickly. The feline is starving at this point.\n\nIt did not take long for him to find the stairs to the next floor; he stealthily went up them. This time, he checked to see where he stepped so as not to make the same mistake again. Several minutes later, he was on the second level, and he saw another hallway with a couple of rooms on both sides and a big door at the end of it. He went to the first one on the right side of him.\n\nAs he opens the door, he sees a bedroom with furniture covered in cloth again. Dust fills the room from the bed to the floor. Draws were left open with nothing left inside other than a single article of clothing. When the boy began walking back to the hallway, he noticed his footprint in the dust. This gave him an idea as he looked for tracks on the floor. He cursed himself, wondering why he did not think about it earlier.\n\nKai found a colossal footprint that looked like blunt toes and an overall rounded foot. They led down the hallway and turned left into a corner the boy could not see. Suddenly, he sees something turning around that corner. It was the katakirauwa, gigantic with a scar over its right eye. Good news for Kai, as this left a blind spot on the beast. The feline is surprised that the demon even got up here without falling through the floor. His big problem is that the pig is too big for the hallway, so he cannot move to the side to attack. Simultaneously, the demon could not turn around in the hallway. Kai thought for two seconds before he knew what he needed to do now as he laid the lantern down. \n\nAs the feline walked into the hallway, the katakirauwa turned around the corner to face him. The demon finally notices Kai as it pounds its two front hooves on the ground and lowers itself. The feline only had one shot at this, but there was no other way he could think of as he readied his sword in his hands. Here and now, he will determine if he is a man worthy of being a Stalker or a disgrace. The demon pig starts to charge at the boy as Kai does the same thing. In a split second, before they collided, Kai ran up and, on the wall, lowered his sword to slash the katakirauwa’s back until he landed behind it. The pig felt the slash as it continued to run past the feline, trying to stop, but it was too late as it fell down the stairs. \n\nThe feline heard loud thuds and boom sounds as he raced to the top of the stairs to look down. As indicated by the blood trail, he saw the demon had fallen down the stairs to the first floor. Kai ran down the stairs to find the pig still unconscious as he got to the bottom to finish the fight. With one powerful downward slash, he decapitated the demon’s head, causing blood to splatter everywhere.\n\nAs Kai watches the blood pool around his feet, he notices he is breathing heavily from the encounter. A radiant smile appears as he realizes he has successfully hunted down his prey. With the last demon dead, Kai relaxes as he daydreams about everyone celebrating his hunt at the camp. The only thing to break his concentration is the sound of the raging thunderstorm outside. Kai made a mental note to always listen to the shaman in the camp.\n\nAll of a sudden, he smells the stench of something rotten coming behind him before he hears a deep growl. Kai turns around quickly to be met face-to-face with a tall humanoid, grey-scaled, draconic ghoul of all things. He had no idea where the new demon came from, but the ghoul made the first move before he could attack it. With one mighty swipe, the ghoul’s claws hit the feline’s left side, sending him flying through the nearest wall. He dropped his sword due to the surprise attack. Then he lands in the living room right by the couch. \n\nFortunately, his armor took the brunt of the damage. Kill the monster and bring its head back to his teacher. The feline lightly tosses the dagger to his right hand as he grabs it with that hand. Then, he dodges the attack as he runs to the demon. As soon as he could, he did three quick stabs in the dragon’s stomach area before he used the last stab to slash a massive gash on the right side as he ran past the ghoul.

His goal was simple, but he knew that it was a long shot as he ran to the opposite wall and ran up it. At the same time, the ghoul slowly turned around as it was trying to stop the enormous amount of bleeding coming from his wounds. He charges at the boy, getting ready to kill the feline. Kai ran up to the top of the ceiling before he pushed himself away from it. This caused the male to hurl himself towards the dragon at tremendous speed.

This was a huge gamble, but the only thing the feline could think of. In a split second, the ghoul attacks with his free claw but misses by mere inches as the boy goes past the dragon’s head. In that second, Kai used the dagger to slash the majority of the ghoul's neck right before he landed on the ground behind the creature. For a second, the dragon had no idea what had happened until a geyser of blood sprayed out of his wound, and then the demon collapsed to the floor. Kai quickly gets on top of the ghoul, not wanting to lose this opportunity. As he hacks away at the remaining neck unit, he decapitates the monster completely.

Blood drenches the floor and feline as the head rolls off to the side once his task is done. Kai, panting heavily, continues to stab the creature for another solid minute until he realizes it is dead. He stumbles off the monster and lays on the ground to recover his breath. The feline could not believe he won against a ghoul. It’s a miracle that he survived. Soon, his adrenaline wore off, and he started to get dizzy. The fights and blood loss from his wounds were too much as he passed out on the floor.

Several hours later, Kai leisurely wakes up to see the morning sun shining through the living room windows. He slowly gets up to check himself; at the same time, he feels sore all over his boy, too. He sees his arm is wounded but not bleeding anymore, which is good. He looks over to see the dead ghoul beside him with a pool of blood around him. The male badly needed a bath but was required to do a few things first. He walks around to get his sword and backpack and put his dagger back in its sheath. Then he goes to the second floor to grab his lantern, too, as he walks to the master bedroom on the third floor.

Lucky for him, the water was still functional in this place as he stripped off his armor and began taking a bath to get all the blood and dry semen off his body.
