In Stratnora all familiars are random for the summoner class which makes the class either easy or hard at the beginning. But once summoned, that familiar will be with them forever even if they switch to a different class later on. :)
Summary:
Rex is now level 3 thanks to his party. Once he gets a chance in a safe room in their first dungeon he sees he can summon a familiar. Without even waiting he did the summoning spell and got a shadow wolf.

Sunlight Weakness. While in sunlight, the shadow wolf has disadvantage on attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws. They can only be 5 to 10 ft away from their summoner in daylight or be sent back to their realm.
Abilities:
Pack Tactics. The wolf has advantage on attack rolls against a creature if at least one of the wolf's allies is within 5 feet of the creature and the ally isn't incapacitated.
Keen Hearing and Smell. The shadow wolf has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.
Shadow Stealth. While in dim light or darkness, the shadow wolf can take the Hide action as a bonus action.
Shadow Meld. The wolf can meld inside another target creature's shadow, which turns noticeably pitch black. While in this form, they are untargetable except by fire and radiant damage, or by anything that can affect the Ethereal Plane. The shadow wolf's movement speed is reduced to 0 in this form and instead it follows the targeted creature's movement. The wolf still counts as remaining in melee combat with the target for the purposes of effects that require it. A Hide action will attempt to lighten the shadow it is hiding in to be closer to it's natural shade.
Attacks:
Bite - Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (2d4 + 3) piercing damage and 7 (2d6) cold damage. If the target is a medium or smaller creature, it must succeed on a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Shadow Dive - The wolf can dive into an adjacent target creature's shadow as a bonus action.
As an action from within the shadow, the shadow wolf can choose one of the following options:
1, The wolf leaps out of the shadow to attack. It can Bite without suffering disadvantage due to Sunlight Weakness.
2, The wolf escapes by leaping out of the edge of the shadow. It Dashes without provoking an opportunity attack from the targeted creature.
Shadow Bolt - A range spell the shadow wolf can cast that will deal either necrotic or cold damage to a target. The shadow wolf must decided what type of damage it will do before using spell or the spell will not activate.
