“I should find a way to lure you back home more often,” Fiachra said.
Bleu took another drink of wine and snuggled closer. For someone who was all lean muscle and intense appetites, Bleu could be remarkably soft when she wanted to be.
“Keep a bottle of this stuff in the house, and you just might,” she said.
“I'll have to talk to Ciara. She brought it over this afternoon while you were still asleep. She said it was an early birthday present,” Fiachra said.
“Funny girl. Your birthday isn't for another month,” Bleu said.
“I told her that, but she just giggled and walked off with her tail high,” Fiachra said.
Bleu passed the bottle up and Fiachra took a long swallow. Ciara had said the wine was an ancient Caprine vintage that someone had pulled out of a shipwreck somewhere. It was thin stuff, not a patch on some of the wine Bleu had brought home from her adventures, but it was curiously warming and after much less than half a bottle, Fiachra felt a little giddy. Bleu must have felt something, too, because she turned in Fiachra's arms and gave Fiachra's neck an affectionate nibble.
“Is Rebecca home?” Bleu said.
“She's in her room down the hall. Sound asleep, last time I checked,” Fiachra said.
“Pity. I guess that means we'll just have to be quiet then,” Bleu said and she slipped a hand up to tease her claws over one of Fiachra's breasts.
“It's not her fault you came home a week early. Anyway, she's always wanted to meet you,” Fiachra said.
“She's a good kid. She must take after her mother,” Bleu said.
"Lucky for her,” Fiachra said.
She bit the cork out of a second bottle of wine and she took a long drink, then she poured a generous measure into Bleu's open mouth, though she splashed some onto Bleu's breasts and belly in the process. This made them both giggle until Fiachra spilled more wine, then Bleu nipped her again.
“Keep quiet, you dumb rabbit. I don't want to have to have that talk with someone else's kid,”she said.
“Rebecca knows not to come in if the door's shut,” Fiachra said.
“Does she? She definitely doesn't take after you, then,” Bleu said.
Fiachra nipped Bleu on the tip of one ear, which made her squeak.
“I wouldn't talk too loud, 'til you've tried it, Miss,” Fiachra said.
“Oh yes. Can you imagine me as a mother?” Bleu said.
“You'd do a great job. I could always teach you,” Fiachra said.
Bleu went silent for a moment, and she sat up a little straighter so she could look Fiachra in the eyes. The sun had almost set now, so Fiachra couldn't see Bleu's face as clearly as she would have liked, but when she spoke again her voice was perfectly level.
“If you'll carry her,” Bleu said.
“Absolutely,” Fiachra said.
Bleu hesitate another minuted, then she laughed and gave Fiachra a gentle lick on the cheek.
“Sure. Now all I have to do is work out how to conceive her. Unless you think that pretty necklace of yours will work on me,” Bleu said.
“Who knows? It couldn’t hurt to try, could it?” Fiachra said.
The island of Viridis is a land of mystery and magic. Life is difficult there, and often dangerous, even for someone like Fiachra, who is as close to royalty as the rabbits there have. But, sometimes, you can find your heart's desire if you know where to look.
