Fiachra has never had much trouble making friends, especially with girls. Some have even described him as a bit of a playboy, and even he would have to admit that it can certainly look that way. Only, he still has feelings, underneath it all, and sometimes he meets someone special who knocks him for a loop.
When he met Ailee, he was smitten with her from the start. She was a bold, self-confident girl with a streak of mischief a mile wide, and a heart of gold to even it all out. She was a sort of kindred spirit, in other words, and perhaps she sensed that, too.
She was merely polite to him at first. He was a stranger from a far-off land who only spoke her language indifferent well, and who often stared like a fool at all the strange, new sights her city held. Still, she smiled at him every time they met in the street, or bumped into each other in the shops, and once in a while they would stop and talk for a while before they went their separate ways.
One evening, several months after they had first met, they were both caught in a vicious downpour and Ailee led him to a small cafe where they could wait out the storm. He bought hot drinks for both of them, and they sat in a booth at the rear of the cafe while the rain hammered on the roof. They talked of nothing very much for a while, but Fiachra noticed she was more comfortable around him than before, and she listened to everything he said with an interest that went beyond mere politeness. What's more, she spoke freely about herself, and about her world, and the rain ended long before either of them were ready to leave.
For the next couple of months, they met for dinner as often as their schedules would allow and they went out dancing, once, though Ailee insisted afterward that she had only suggested it as a joke. They agreed that these meetings were not dates, just something to do to add a little spice to their daily lives. They were just little adventures he could tell his friends about when he went back home.
Then, one day, she invited him to a picnic in a secluded glade she knew, some distance from the city.

Please Note: Eliki has asked me to note that Ailee is very choosy about who she takes to bed, and she certainly isn't the type to tumble between the sheets with just anyone. I tried to show that in the little blurb above, and to give them a bit more to go on than just "they like each other", because believe it or not I do think that's important.
