With a quiver in her voice, Liane asks Jessamine to be her bride and presents her with the eternity symbol with a heart worked into it that fits into and will remain inside the ring on Jess's slave collar, that she never removes. Obviously Jess has agreed.
This is the present time, but how did Liane suddenly decide she wanted to marry Jessamine, you may ask? Well, let me give you a short history of their past leading up to this moment.
A little over five years ago Liane was taking an off-planet vacation she had saved and saved for. I won't tell you the name of the planet. They like it just as it is and don't want it overrun by tourists. But Liane was touring the City of Jaspertree, which is quite an interesting town in that criminals are made into slaves and made to work off their time in whatever way they best could serve the city. It seems that somehow Jess had drawn a long sentence and even though she earned money to save toward buying her freedom, she always ended up using it to pay off another girl, because all good looking girls, like Jess, were made to prostitute themselves to earn time off their sentence and once in a while a very satisfied customer might tip a few florins of gold or silver. So basically Jess was serving a life sentence as a slave prostitute. But even so she was a trusted slave and allowed out to do errands at times. The slave collar told everyone who saw it that she was property of the city and to bother her would earn them slavery also, so she was safe as could be.
Now as it happens. Liane caught sight of Jess on one of her errands and was instantly drawn to her even though she knew nothing about her. The bunny followed her into a shop and learned her name and that she worked out of the house of prostitution on Silver Street.
Well, after following Jess several times and never getting a chance to speak to her, she screwed up her courage and went to the Silver Street house and asked for Jess. As Liane was well dressed with a full purse she had no trouble being ushered right in.
This first time and several following ones consisted of nothing but the two girls talking and getting to know each other. And soon they even managed to meet outside the house and were able to spend some time having tea and getting to trust and know each other better, and a friendship developed between them. And as so often happens in the fullness of time, friendship turned to love and the two girls used every means they could to see each other. One of Jess's favorite things about the whole relationship was the fact that Liane had been the only person who really looked at her, tried to find out who she was underneath and fell in love with her for her amazing personality and no other reason.
About this time, the political situation in Jaspertree quickly devolved into a series of murders, revolts, assassinations, battles and terrifyingly violent political intrigues that ended up damaging a great deal of the city. Fires and other forms of destruction abounded. During this time of upheaval, Jessamine saw her chance and managed to secure her freedom by methods which we may later visit. Or if you read Megan Bryar's books you will know or learn from them. Suffice it to say that she escaped what was left of the house at Silver Street and fled to the forest for protection. There she was found by Liane. A lucky thing for both of them. For Liane had friends in well placed positions which still retained their power and she managed to have Jess's sentence commuted and so Jessamine Bryar became a free citizen once more.
And so now, after several years of dating and seeing each other whenever possible, Liane has finally decided that she can no longer live without Jess. And lucky for her Jessamine feels the same way about her.
