She was adorned with several gold anklets and a necklace with five large, sparkling garnets that swung with each of her slow, ambling steps, signifying her role as the leader of the Garnet Paws. That was the only response he could muster, though. His throat was dry as desert sand, yet a strand of drool ran down his chin as he couldn't help but stare at her bejeweled, pregnant beauty.\n\n\"It's nice to meet you, Ryan. Welcome to our guild,\" Luna said with a smirk. \"What brings you here to us?\"\n\n\"Uhhhh… I- I don't actually know…\" the eevee muttered with an abashed blush.\n\n\"I found him in the woods earlier today,\" Lily chimed in. \"From what I can tell, he's from far away and…\" The zorua leaned closer, whispering conspiratorially, \"…he says that he was originally a human.\"\n\n\"What!?\" the absol gasped, straightening up with widening eyes. \"Is that true?\"\n\n\"Uh-huh. I- I think so?\" Ryan stammered. \"Is that a bad thing?\"\n\n\"No, no, not necessarily. It's just… unexpected,\" Luna reassured him while she inspected him with even greater curiosity. \"Did you mention this to anyone else?\"\n\n\"No, you're the first one to know,\" Lily replied.\n\n\"Good. That's good,\" the absol assessed. \"Try not to tell anyone for now, all right?\"\n\n\"Why?\" the eevee squeaked, his ears nervously flattening against his head.\n\nLuna pensively smacked her lips. Then she asked, \"How much do you know about this place? About Gaia? About Twinwater Town? About the Garnet Paws Guild?\"\n\n\"I know n-nothing about any of it. Just what Lily has shown me today,\" Ryan replied.\n\n\"All right. I see,\" the guild leader hummed with a slow nod. \"So you don't know about the fertility crisis either?\"\n\n\"The f-fertility crisis?\" the eevee stammered.\n\n\"Well, in brief, mating no longer works as effectively as it did a few generations ago. A single heat used to be enough to produce a litter, but nowadays most females struggle to get pregnant even once in their lifetime,\" Luna explained. \"But not for the lack of trying. Our heats last longer than ever, sometimes perpetually, and our males have gotten bigger and more productive as well, but to little avail.\"\n\nThe blush on Ryan's cheeks deepened and he coyly glanced at the guild leader's bulging, gravid belly as she spoke.\n\n\"Yes, I finally got lucky a few months ago, and once it works, it really pushes you to the limit. The guild's healers told me that I'm carrying a litter of twelve, and while it looks like I'm about to deliver, it'll still be another month,\" Luna chuckled, a trickle of milk dribbling from one of her teats as she brushed a paw across her swollen underside. \"Anyway, that's neither here nor there. What's much more important for you is the fact that you used to be a human.\"\n\n\"H-how so?
