"writing": "When Ryan opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was the brilliant blue sky above him, dotted with fluffy white clouds. He took a deep breath, the air rich with the sweet, honeyed scent of flowers and the sounds of babbling water. He somehow found himself lying in the middle of a small clearing, surrounded by tall, sprawling oak trees and lush, ripe berry bushes, their leaves rustling and branches swaying in a gentle, balmy breeze.\n\nThis was the perfect place to wake up, had it not been for one small detail: he didn't remember falling asleep here. In fact, he didn't even remember where he had fallen asleep in the first place, and when he tried to recall anything else he had done yesterday, his brain refused. His memories were still there, he could feel them, but every time he tried to focus on one, it slipped away like a magikarp in cloudy waters to leave him with nothing but diffuse confusion.\n\nRyan was still straining his brain when something brown in the corner of his eyes caught his attention. It wasn't anything on the outer rims of his peripheral vision, though, but sat smack dab in the middle. He squinted, identifying it as some kind of furry cloth wrapped around his nose. Was he wearing a mask? Sluggishly, he reached for his face to examine it closer, only to be surprised by something else brown and fluffy. What was that paw doing there? Where was his hand?\n\nFurrowing his brow, he swiveled his head to check whose paw he was looking at, tracing the associated leg to its origin until he ended up looking at his own chest, though it was nothing like he remembered. No clothing, no skin, he was greeted by more dark brown fur and a thick, voluminous beige tuft of fur. He stared at it for a long, confused moment, then another before he finally reached for it. The pelt was warm and wonderfully silky, but although he felt it beneath his fingertips, he couldn't see his fingers, nor any hand, only the same paw as before pressing against the fur.\n\nSlowly, ever so slowly, a disquieting realization seeped into Ryan's mind, and his eyes widened when his bewilderment turned to dreadful certainty. That was his paw! That was his chest! He had become brown and fluffy! He squealed in shock, frantically pawing at his changed body as if trying to rub away the unexpected pelt, but it didn't go anywhere. He only managed to nick himself with a claw. The subsequent jab of pain stopped his thrashing on the spot, but his thoughts kept spinning all the wilder, his heart racing and his breath heavy as he struggled to wrap his head around his findings.\n\nPart of him wondered if it was a dream, but the pain felt far too real, which left him with only one alternative: he had been transformed while asleep. The surreal thought filled his brain with a thousand more questions. Who? Why? How? No answer would come for most of them, but he eventually figured out what he had become. Like pieces of a puzzle, the brown and beige colors of his fur, the tuft, the paws, and his nose-turned-muzzle came together to form an unambiguous picture in his head.\n\nHe had become an eevee.\n\n\"Hiya, who are you?\"\n\nA cheery, melodic voice snapped Ryan out of his daze, and he startled with a stunned yelp. \"Ah!\"\n\n\"Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to scare you.\"\n\n\"N-no, it's fine. I just didn't expect…\" Ryan stammered, only to drop silent when he turned his head and spotted a grinning zorua ambling toward him.\n\n\"What? Is something wrong?\"\n\nThe zorua stopped, tilting her head at him while her muzzle continued to move in sync with the voice he heard.\n\nDumbfounded, Ryan asked, \"Y-you're talking?\"\n\n\"Uhh, yes? Of course, I'm talking, just like you are talking,\" she chuckled before she narrowed her eyes at him. \"Why?\"\n\n\"Well, p-pokemon usually don't ta…,\" Ryan stammered, but his voice trailed off when he realized that he was a talking eevee himself.\n\n\"What do you mean?\" the zorua wondered, blinking in confusion. \"Did you hit your head too hard? Also, I've never seen you around these parts. Are you new here? Where are you from?\"\n\n\"I'm from Cyllage City,\" he replied, absently rubbing his head to check for any bumps or dents that might explain why his mind was so fuzzy. Still, no amount of head trauma could have turned him into an eevee.\n\n\"Cyllage City? Never heard of it, and I've been to loads of places on Gaia, so it must be pretty far away,\" she said. \"Anyway, I'm Lily. I'm a scout of the Garnet Paws Exploration Guild. And who are you?\"\n\n\"R-Ryan. I'm Ryan.\"\n\n\"Nice to meet you, Ryan! What brings you here to our meadows? Are you a courier?\"\n\n\"A courier? I- I honestly don't know. I just woke up and I don't remember how I got here. And, uhhh… last time I checked, I wasn't even an eevee.\"\n\n\"You weren't an eevee?\" Lily furrowed her fluffy red brows. \"Did you devolve or something?
