He had been wandering all morning to reach the next city, but if his map was correct he had at least 3 more days ahead of himself before he would reach Ravenrock. He was toying with the idea of taking off his hooded cape and adventurer clothes. \n\nHe let out a loud yawn and stretched out his tired legs. Luxro was about to close his eyes for a short nap, when a particular big, golden apple was catching his attention. He hadn´t eaten anything all day and all he had left in his bag was a piece of 4 days old bread. Using his psychic powers he pulled the apple off the branch and made it slowly dance down the tree until he just snatched it out of the air. \n\nTaking a big sniff of the fruit in his paw, Luxro couldn´t help but smile. This was going to be a great day. He sunk his teeth into it, but before he could finish his bite, the young lewxen had to roll out of the way. A paw much bigger than his own, just slashed a piece out of the tree, right where his head had been a second ago. \n\nLuxro was rolling on the ground for a few feet until he finally got back up to his feet. He quickly turned his gaze back to the tree to find out who his attacker was. Right next to the apple tree was an intellect devourer. He never saw one in real life, but had heard stories about them from other travelers. They were pretty much brains that walked around on 4 lion legs. Not much of a threat to a skilled adventurer, but for somebody like Luxro they were a huge threat. \n\nMost of his combat skills were based around his psychic abilities, which could be extremely helpful during battle, but this exact ability was probably the reason why this intellect devourer had found him. They were attracted to smart minds like moths to the light. Even worse. They had an attack that would damage his mind in a way that could cost him his psychic powers. As much as he wanted to smash this thing into the ground for ending his peaceful morning Luxro couldn´t risk any kind of mind damage to himself. \n\nHe took a slow step back from the monster. But just as he did so the intellect devourer did the same. This fucking thing could smell his mind and was already locked on it´s target. This left Luxro with only one option. Something crazy and daring, but maybe just daring enough to work. The young lewxen took a deep breath. It was now or never.\n\nHe turned on the spot and started to run away. “You´ll never get me alive!” Luxro did run straight into the forest down the hill from the apple tree. Hopefully he could get rid of it in the deeper parts of the woods. The young lewxen was running as fast as his feet could carry him. Jumping over rocks and fallen trees, avoiding thorn bushes and scrambling up hills. But no matter what he did the intellect devourer remained on his tracks. The few times he managed to look over his shoulder during his flight, Luxro could always make out his opponent in the distance. \n\nThe last time he risked such a glance, the young adventurer stumbled over the root of a tree, causing him to roll down another hill in the middle of the woods. Cursing the entire way down, Luxro barely managed to solidify his fur, giving it a gold like appearance, to soften the damage he was taking. Sadly his fall came to a hard stop, when he was crashing into a rock wall. His mind dizzy from the hard impact, he couldn´t even get back on his feet before the intellect devourer had made the distance and was standing right before him. \n\nThere was no running away anymore. He was in the reach of this beast's mind attacks. A million thoughts and ideas were running through his mind. Was that it? Would his story end right here? Was there another option he wasn't aware of? What did he miss?\n\nThe intellect devourer body began to glow yellow, signaling that it´s preparing a fatal mind attack. Right when Luxro was preparing himself to spend the last minutes of his life as a brain dead potato, out of nowhere an arrow hit the monster in front of him right between it´s two brain lobes. Screaming out in pain, the creature buckled up, about to trash out in anger, when the arrow in it´s brain suddenly sprouted vines all over it´s body, pretty much pinning it to the forest floor. \n\n“What the… “ That was all Luxro managed to say before a hooded figure landed right between him and the intellect devourer. He couldn´t make out much under the hood since the person had it´s back turned to him. He or she was barely taller than himself and Luxro was only the size of a halfling. Maybe this was a hill-dwarf or goblin. All of a sudden bright, red flames appeared from under the hood and set the intellect devourer ablaze. Once more the creature screamed out in pure pain. Desperately trashing against the vines pinning it to the ground, while the flames engulfed it´s body. \n\nThis went on for about a minute, when the creature finally slumped down and stopped moving. Luxro was still laying on the ground, his jaw wide open. He turned his eyes away from the still burning monster and back to the hooded person. Said person dropped an empty vial on the ground and the young lewxen could see how the hood slightly turned in his direction. He was about to say something, but the person quickly turned around and what he then saw was the last thing he expected. \n\nRight before him stood a purple scaled, female kobold. The hood she was wearing was way too big for her head, so she had to rip two holes for her eyes into it. In her left hand she was holding a bow. The kobold was looking down on him, when a big smile appeared on her face and she reached out her free hand to help him up. “Hello! I´m Snippy! Snippy the sniper!”\n\nLuxro blinked a few times to regain his composure. He took her hand and with her help stood back up. “Ähm!... Hello! I´m Luxro. Friends call me Lux. Thanks for saving me there.” The kobold girl waved him off and took off her hood, giving him a better view of her horned head. The young lewxen also noticed her bright yellow eyes and the green iris inside them. For a kobold she was pretty cute. \n\n“No problem! I fought way worse things than those intellect devourers. They can´t do much when you keep your distance and hit them with arrows. But strangely enough… those things never seem to target me anyway.” Luxro knew that intellect devourers are drawn to people with high intelligence levels. Those with lower brain activity are pretty much invisible to them. But he refrained from telling her that. “I guess they just don´t like kobold brains.” \n\nHe gave her a wink and grinned. “Yes, that´s probably it!” Both started to giggle. Luxro looked back over his shoulder to the still burning monster corps and then back at Snippy. “But say… If you're a kobold. How come you can breathe fire like that? Isn´t that more of a dragon thing?” She just smiled at him and pointed to the empty vial on the ground. I used a potion. It´s called potion of dragon breath. If you drink it you can spit fire like a real dragon. But only once. Still got 3 left.” She opened a small bag hanging on her hip and pulled out another vial. This one was filled with a deep red liquid. \n\n“Wow those must be pretty expensive. Guess I owe you something in return for saving my life and spending something so expensive in the process.” Once again Snippy was waving him off. “Don´t worry about it! As a hero, it´s my job to save people no matter the cost. But if you want we could travel together for a bit. It´s so boring wandering alone. What do you say?” She held out her hand to him. There was enough space to set up a camp and the river was deep and wide enough for the two small adventurers to clean themself in. While Snippy was preparing a fire for the night Lux used that time to take a quick dip in the river. His fur was still all dirty from rolling down a hill and running away from a monster. The cold water did wonders for him. He felt just as relaxed as he did in the morning, when he was laying under this huge apple tree. \n\nThe young lewxen just floated in the shallow water, barely deep enough for his body to not touch the ground of the river. He closed his eyes and enjoyed the silent splashing sounds of the river. That´s when he heard a strange sound. As if something was flying through the air.
