Written by: Mana Araxis Commissioned by: Doomyguy 1/20/14 The Nightmare of Red Savarin "W-Where am I?" I asked myself. I was in a strange room, surrounded by white walls and flooring. Above were bright lights that reflected off the walls, giving the entire room a distinct and cold atmosphere. In the room were various tables and carts with odd looking tools. I thought to myself that this must of been some kind of laboratory. I was all alone in this strange room, unclear exactly where I was. Ahead of me, on the opposing wall, was a door. I began to walk towards it cautiously when I suddenly stopped and perked my ears. "Aaaahhhh!" screamed an adult male voice. The sounds of gunfire echoed from the hallway outside my room. My heart began to panic as I looked around the room anxiously. Just some tables and carts; there was no where I could hide safely if the gun men burst into this room. "Aaahhh!" another deathly scream echoed out in the hallways after the loud sound of gun fire went off. The shuffle of feet echoed and quickly became louder near the door of my room. The door bust open as an older Caninus female entered. I couldn't quite make out her features as certain images for some reason were hazy. She was dressed in a white lab coat and had creamy vanilla colored fur. "Red! Red!" the female yelled to me in desperation. "You must get out of here or you will be...!" the Caninus could not finish her sentence as the sound of gunfire originated from outside the door. A gunman, a felineko I tried to make out, shot the female straight through her chest. Her eyes glazed, jaw left open as dark red blood began to spread from her wound and stain her coat. She first fell to her knees then onto her face with a loud thump. I trembled as I looked at the now dead Caninus. She was trying to save me... but it was too late. The gunmen had us trapped, but I still needed to find a way to escape. I charged ahead as there was no other choice. "Stop!" yelled the black garbed Felineko. My body instantly stopped, as if I had no control over it. I was petrified, the barrel of the gun pointed at my face. I hoped by listening to the gunman's orders, I would not lose my life as well. My heart raced ever quicker..... "Gahh!" I yelled. The last thing I remembered was the loud firing of a gun. It was just a nightmare, but the images were still engraved in my mind vividly as well as the sounds. My name's Red Savarin. I live here in an Orphanage on the island of Bassett. I am a young Caninus myself, having light brown fur and a creamy white underside with red head fur and blue eyes. I quickly looked around my room and observed my familiar surroundings. It was dark outside, the only light was that of the moon's shining in the window. The loud sound of rain pattered on the Orphanage's roof and the porch outside. "Oh no!" I gasped quietly to myself. I felt a cold, wet feeling on my bed around where my crotch was. I could not believe it....I wet my bed. I started to tear up, which is unusual of me. I frantically looked around, lifting my covers and seeing how much of my blue paw print pajamas were soaked, as well as the sheets. I wet myself a lot and began tear up more in embarrassment. I couldn't let Chocolat hear me cry out, so I threw back the covers and jumped out of the bed. Lightning flashed through the room's windows, followed by the booming of thunder which startled me for only a moment. It's been raining like this for over three days and everyone has been stuck inside for safety. "It's a little chilly out here." I said to myself as I breathed in the misty air. The moonlight pierced through an opening in the dark gray rain clouds. Bassett was a floating island composed of various rusted and dilapidated ships. Out on the porch side, I sat down beside the doorway, my legs propped up. After letting everything absorb, I buried my face into my arms, which were crossed over the knees of my legs. "Why did I have such a bad nightmare?" I thought to myself. Other thoughts flooded my mind such as "Mary is going to be angry at me for wetting myself." I began to sob as tears streamed out of my eyes, sometimes running down my snout. I sat there for an unknown amount of time until I heard the sound of light footsteps approach the doorway. The door slowly creaked open and I heard a familiar voice. "Red. Is that you?" said a young female. It was no doubt my adoptive sister, Chocolat. I looked up to my right, she had pink hair and cream white fur. Dressed in pink pajamas, she crouched down to me and looked into my eyes. I quickly shot my gaze to my left, I couldn't have anyone let alone Chocolat, see me like this. "Chocolat..." I said as I managed to speak out in between my sobs. "Please...I can't have you see me this way." I continued in a pained tone. "Red...what's the matter? You're never this way." replied my sister. She sat down beside me and I felt an arm wrap around my chest. She pulled me close in to her as I continued to stare in the opposite direction. Thunder and lighting cracked once more as more rain began to pour harder. "Brother...do you...want to talk about it?" "No..it's too." I stammered, quickly shaking my head. I didn't want to tell her the horrors of my nightmare and what happened when I woke up. "It's too...what?" she asked softly. I could tell she was genuinely concerned. I was going to have to come out with it, but at least it would be out of my system. "Red, you can tell me. Please tell me what happened and why you are out here crying." I gave a quick sigh and began. "Chocolat...I had a horrible nightmare. It seemed so real." "Your past maybe?" Chocolat asked. "I don't know." I replied, shaking my head once more. "I was in a room. The room...had completely white walls and floors. I was so scared..not knowing where I was." "Awww, Red" said Chocolat as she cuddled me tighter close to her. Her warmth, her touch made me more at ease to continue my story. "Suddenly...I heard gunfire coming from the halls outside. A Caninus rushed into the room where I was....told me to get out or I would be killed. It was too late, she was shot dead...then...." I choked up suddenly as the memories of the last parts of my dream resurfaced. "Then what?" "Then I tried to escape, but the Felineko gunman stopped me, his gun pointed right at my face. I woke up after that....I think I was....was.." as I finished my story I broke into tears again as Chocolat began to rub me. It was comforting and I started to feel a little better talking about it. "Red..it's fine now. It was only a dream." consoled Chocolat. "I also...wet my bed" I added as I winced in embarrassment. Suddenly an older voice of a female chimed in. "Red, that's okay." it was the voice of Mary, an older Caninus who cared for us in the Orphanage. She had white head fur that was bundled together and dressed in a black nightgown. "I heard everything. After hearing you rush out, followed by Chocolat I had to hear what happened." "M-Mary?" I stuttered as I looked up towards the doro way she was standing in. "Yes Red?" she replied back to me. "Can I...have a gum bone?" I pleaded to her. Right now, it's all I wanted. Having Chocolat beside me was comforting, but I wanted something more familiar as well. "Ha ha, sure you can Red. Also some warm milk too." Mary assured me. "Come on inside, it's frightfully stormy out right now. I've heard the part about you wetting your bed. We'll get you a fresh new set of pajamas and sheets okay?" I wiped away my tears with my left arm, images of my nightmare soon began to disappear. Chocolat helped me up and we headed inside, holding each other's hand paws. We looked at one another, smiling at one another. After having some warm milk and my favorite treat, a gum bone, I went back to the bedroom. Mary already finished changing the sheets and left a clean pair of pajamas for me on the bed. I quickly changed out of my wet clothing and put on the clean pair, still having my gum bone in my maw. "You going to be okay Red?" asked Chocolat from across the room softly. "I am, thank you." I replied back, still chewing on my treat. It was the one thing that helped me get to sleep as I cuddled underneath the covers. The downpour slowed down and there was less thunder and lightning. The sound of the rain became almost peaceful as it lulled me back to sleep. I did not have any more that nightmares that night and quickly forgot the details by morning. I think Chocolat and I became a little closer that night. The next day after the three day storm ended, the three of us; Mary, Chocolat and I went for a walk outside. The smell of the past days' rain permeated the air and the sound of chirping birds gave life to the day. The three of us walked to the nearby town and spent the morning at the market. There was plenty to see that day, but before going back to the Orphange, we stopped off at a bakery. Mary was so nice that morning, she bought us a bag of assorted flavor gum bones. The day couldn't be any better and I raced ahead back home in glee with a gum bone held between my teeth.
