On the Trails of Flame
Chapter 2
Part 2 of 5
Alex finally came back to his senses as the morning sun once more kissed the sky, the fox opening an eye as he began to shake off the after effects of his meditation. He turned his head when the voice of the young filly Apple Bloom rang in his ears, the girl asking,
“Are you awake now mister Alex??”
The fox turned to the girl lowering his hood then giving the girl a smile and a nod, the girl clearly having no sense for other worldly energies, if she have had any she wouldn’t have been able get close to him while he was away from the world. He was about to stand only for the girl to quickly say aloud,
“Wait!! Easy there this place is to small for you, you stand up and you’ll smash a hole in the roof.”
The fox nodded forgetting for a moment the fact that this little club house was made for young ponies, the race of which who even the adults of them where six maybe even six and a half feet smaller then he. He nodded before using a blink like ability to vanish then reappearing outside of the small tree house; the girl responding with a startled,
“Whoa!! Hey was that a magic spell??”
The fox chuckled a little, it could be called that, the young pony then going on to ask, looking key-ly at his forehead,
“But wait, how can you cast magic without a horn??”
The fox nods for a moment, thinking to himself,
‘I see, so that’s how it works in this world then, only the unicorns can cast magic then?’
The fox looked up to the little filly responding to her question as she left her little tree house behind,
“Well I guess you can say I’m from out of town, WAY out of town, I have other ways of magic you folk no clue about.”
The girl nodded then saying,
“Well I’m only an earth pony so I don’t know anything of magic to begin with, maybe twilight would be better to talk to about that stuff.”
The fox nodded, this twilight must be a unicorn then, however now that that little conversation was over the fox then looked to the little filly who had stuffed something into her saddle bag like backpack when she was inside of her club house, leading the fox to ask,
“Well on a different note, didn’t I tell you all to keep out of the orchard till I said otherwise? That it was dangerous??”
The young pony let out a cheeky grin, sticking out her tongue before responding,
“Yeah, but we needed these things, for what me and my friends had in mind to do today.”
The little pony referring to the items she had stuffed in her bag, once again making the fox question, how a race with hooves instead of hands could hold anything in the first place. He then shook off the silly question then looked around, sensing, then looking into the shadows around the orchard, the fox then saying once he returned his gaze to the mortal plane,
“Well, it seems you’re in luck, wherever the shadow demons have gone, they’re no longer hiding in your apple trees.”
The girl nodded pretending that she had the slightest clue as to what he was talking about, the fox detecting this then saying plainly for the girl,
“You can tell your sister and brother that it is safe for you all to get into the orchard again, the monsters are gone.”
The girl nodded then said as she then turned to leave,
“Will do, well I’ve got to go now mister Alex, Scootaloo and Sweetie Bell are waiting for me see ya around.”
He nodded waving to the young girl as she ran off, for a moment remembering what it was like to be young, but then put that thought aside. He looked around, once more taking a look though the shadow space of the orchard then saying to himself,
“A pack of demons that size doesn’t just vanish, this is going to make tracking them down harder to do.”
With nothing left to do in the apple orchard the fox decided to head back to the apple family farm, seeing Apple Jack getting ready to go into town for whatever reason once he arrived, Alex saying hello to the pony once he was in ear shot, AJ responding with a simple,
“Howdy stranger, say mind giving me a hand with something?”
The fox nodded watching the pony go over to then pick up a barrel of apples, the pony then saying,
“Need to load up the wagon so I can take it into town and sell some of our goods, just running a little behind, if you’re in a hurry though its no problem.”
The fox nodded easily grabbing up a pair of barrels then saying,
“Well you miss are in luck I’ve got nothing to do at the moment.”
She nodded then with the foxes help quickly loaded her wagon with the barrels and other items she was planning to take to the market in town. Once finished the pony asked wiping off her forehead,
“Well then want to come with?? I can show you around Ponyville introduce you to my friends.”
The fox nodded then saying,
“Sure, introducing myself to the towns people might make my job a little easier, lead the way miss Apple jack.”
The pony nodded then saying as she pulled the wagon,
“You can just call me AJ.”
He nodded then followed along talking to the pony about the town, the towns people, her friends, the princesses and other such things, till finally they reached the Ponyville market place, AJ introducing the area as such to the fox when they arrived, Alex noting the many stares he was getting, but he figured it would be normal, with how much taller then everyone else as he was let alone the fact that AJ had told him that the towns people take a while to warm up to strangers he wasn’t exactly expecting a warm welcome. He followed the pony till she set up her stall at that point they where quickly intercepted by one of her friends, the bubbly pink pony that AJ had told Alex name was Pinky Pie. The pink pony let out an excited explosion of talking, questions, and other such nonsensical acts, the girl making the fox dizzy with all her movements, seemingly able to appear anywhere and everywhere at the same time, honestly he had known people with blink and teleport abilities that didn’t move around so much. Once he had stated her long list of questions and her never ending energy finally started to take its toll on him, he then said finally using his abilities to make the pony float up off the ground, then saying once she found herself unable to bounce and run all over creation,
“You have way to much energy little one.”
The girl grins then responds with a cheeky,
“Yeah I get that a lot, but hey new question, how are you making me float?? This is soo cool.”
The pink pony then began to have fun with her current floating state bringing an uncontrollable grin to the foxes face as the pony quickly proved to be to much for him to handle, but then had his attention called away from her when another one of their friends trotted up, asking,
“That is a question I’d like to ask as well. AJ, Pinky who’s your new friend??”
Turning his head, he saw the pony AJ had said was Twilight Sparkle trot up, looking on as she saw Pinky floating around somehow having managed to brake away from Alex’s hold. He took a close look at the girl, she was absolutely covered in otherworldly energies, even on other plains her power was extended, then taking a look at her from the mortal plane he noted the horn on her head. She then asked when Alex set the pink pony down much to her disappointment,
“How did you do that?”
The purple pony then giving him a once over before saying,
“No horn, nothing we’ve seen that can produce magic at all, how by Celestia did you do that?”
The fox then replied as a certain twinkle shone in her eyes,
“I guess you can say that I’m unique.”
Her interest peeked she then said tugging on his hand with magic trying to pull him along,
“Is that so, please tell me more, AJ you don’t mind if I borrow your little helper do you?”
Before the pony could even reply Twilight had managed to drag the fox away surprising the fox more so then the others. Alex quickly found himself whisked away to a large oak tree where inside he found a library of sorts, where quickly the girl levitated a pen and quill then bombarding the fox with question after question with the girl trying her utmost best to try and figure out his magic, she quickly became worse then the hyper active pink pony he found himself thinking. When they where joined by her friends watching as the purple pony went on asking question after question, experiment after experiment wanting to know everything she could they quickly saw her and the young dragon, Spike as the unicorn had hastily introduced him as in her stampede inside, brought up some kind of device, AJ then suggesting,
“Uh, hey Twi, I don’t think that is such a good idea.”
The purple pony then asked as she finished attaching the machine to the fox,
“Why’s that? I just want to see how much power he has.”
The foxes eyebrows peeked he then said as the pony turned the machine on,
“She’s right, that’s a very!! . . .”
The second she turned on the machine, it exploded, about to send shrapnel flying throughout the room till the fox contained it, the others looking on as they saw each individual piece and shard floating in mid air with no visible magic aura, the fox then resuming,
“Bad idea, hold on a moment let me fix your little toy.”
They then watched as all the little pieces flew back over to the spot the rest of the machine once sat and quickly the machine rebuilt itself, the others looked on with a bit of wonder, twilight however was almost drooling, the idea of a magic she had no knowledge about that could do stuff like he was doing, the girl quickly got more paper to take notes with then bombarding the fox with more questions. Finally much like before with Pinky the girl found herself floating in the air only unlike the last time the girl also found herself unable to open her mouth, the fox then saying as he rubbed his temples,
“You are officially worse then Pinky Pie? Tell you what once you cool your jets I’ll let you go deal?”
The purple pony nodded as she floated helplessly till the fox asked,
“Are you better now?”
The girl nodded the fox then setting her back down, the girl asking,
“Sorry, I got . . .carried away did I?”
Rainbow Dash said from the spot she was laying at,
“That’s an understatement Twilight.”
The purple unicorn then said as she began to look around for something,
“Its just I’ve never seen anything like your magic, or well you for that matter, where do you come from, what is the source of your magic, so many questions . . . And where is that book?? Spike where did that old book go?”
The dragon shrugged his shoulders as Alex then said,
“Look if I told you that I’m a god would that make you stop?”
The purple pony then said turning back to him for a moment,
“Don’t be ridiculous, the closest thing there are to gods are the princesses, and even they as powerful as they are are far from it.”
She then shouted “AH there you are” before heading over to a bookshelf, Alex however motioned to her friends, calling their attention to him for a moment, he then motioned to her as he then said getting ready to snap his fingers,
“Fine I’ll prove it to you.”
He snapped his fingers as the pony said not even noticing her body changing as she then reached up and grasped the book with a much more human like hand,
“I don’t see how you could prove that you’re a god.”
The pony’s body stopped changing the young dragon and her friends where dumbstruck as the girl unconsciously licked her thumb before she started leafing though the book trying to find whatever she was looking for, before Dash stammered out,
“Twi . . Twilight.”
The purple pony looked up unaware of the change cocking an eyebrow as she asked,
“What now Dash??”
The pegasus was unable to respond vocally, she fly up behind the former purple pony and forced her up a mirror the girl then letting out a gasp as she dropped the book then began to look herself over, standing on two legs, hoofed feet still but with human like hands and a much more human like body, she and the others turned as Alex then asked,
“Tell me, can your princesses do that??”
The purple pony then turned and asked as the others where still dumbfounded by what they had witnessed,
“What the . . .how the . . . What the HAY did you do to me!?!”
The fox smirked then said,
“I believe that kind of form is referred to as an anthropomorphic, look what else I can do.”
Turning his attention to spike he snapped his fingers once again, the dragon however got taller, more shapely till a small pair of breast formed on the former males chest, Alex then looked toward Fluttershy snapping his fingers and with which the girl took to a form similar to twilights, only this time she was clearly now a he, the fox then asking as he looked to the others,
“Quick who wants to be a bird??”
without even a second thought Pinky Pie’s hoof shot up, Alex snapping his fingers and instantly she changed, from pony to something of a harpy, the girl now covered in pink plumes of feathers then giggling as she then proceeded to fly around the room. Alex then once again looked at the newly anthro Twilight then asked,
“Well is that enough to prove to you that I am a god?? Or do I have to turn someone inside out with them still being alive and well to prove it??”
The girl shook her head the fox then asking,
“So we’re good, no more questions, no more being a spaz?”
The girl nodded once again before Alex snapped his fingers once more, all returning to as it was before, Pinky Pie letting out an audible “darn”. Once everyone was calmed down and everything returned to normal, Twilight then asked,
“So if you really are a god, then what are you doing here?”
The fox then said taking a seat on the floor,
“I’m looking for someone, well that was the original reason I came, that however has lead to a new problem, a large swarm of demons has invaded your world, they are not of this world so I must destroy them, one of my many jobs.”
The girl nodded then suggested,
“If its something on that kind of scale, perhaps we should go talk to Princess Celestia, I bet she’d be able to help you out.”
The fox thought about it for a moment before chuckling a little then saying,
“I suppose little Tia and Lulu could lend a helping hand in my search, well hoof, sure why not lets go.”
The nodded but before any of them could make a move there was a bright flash, and once it subsided, they found themselves in the throne room of the princesses castle, the lot of them looking at the fox who said,
“What you had a better idea, like a train stupid like that?”
The shook the guards took at first quickly subsided as they then rushed over to them, demanding that they leave, the fox however, seemingly tiring of interruptions said as he gave the guards the same treatment he gave twilight, floating them in mid air and sealing tight their mouths,
“You ponies are giving me a headache, here is what you lot are going to do. You are going to find Celestia or Luna whichever one you prefer to grab, in fact get both and bring them here, if you don’t then I am going to reverse the gravity in this castle and make everyone walk on the ceiling for a week.”
The two looked at one another before they found themselves outside of the throne room, being teleported further away when they tried to enter once again. The look in the foxes face changed a little, he looked more annoyed, more likely to snap the others noting this look as he took a seat where the princess would sit saying aloud,
“Getting tired of this shit, going to have to center myself again and I just did so this morning.”
The fox then looked over as a cup and a pot of tea appeared from no where, then pouring a cup of tea for him. The six remaining ponies and Spike of began looking at one another as this change of personality reminded them of someone else, the fox then saying as he was about take a drink,
“Relax, I’ll explain later, rest assured I am not in any, way, shape, or form related to discord,”
The fox them mumbling mainly to himself,
“I can be a million times worse.”
Shortly after the two princesses are brought to the throne room, the guards apologizing to the two at being unable to handle the situation, and as they entered they both heard the fox say aloud, his mood and tone once again having changed, and his small pixie now serving him tea,
“Ah little Tia and Lulu, its nice to see you again.”
Luna who looked like she was about to kick someone’s ass looked up as her sister stopped her, the fox then saying as the look on her face spoke enough,
“AH, looks like someone remembers me.”
Twilight then asked as the princess approached the fox clearly resisting the urge to break into a full sprint,
“Princess do you know him?”
The princess nods then similes, hugging the fox who smiles back at her, the large pony saying as she did,
“It is nice to see you again my old friend.”
The fox nodded then said,
“That it is, you’re so much bigger then the last time I saw you.”
Princess Luna approached the fox asking as she looked him over,
“So do I get a hug Lulu or do I have to scoop you up and take one?”
She nodded beginning to vaguely remember the fox and gave him his hug, said pony then saying,
“You’ll have to forgive me, my memories of so long seem to be a little foggy.”
The fox nodded quickly ruffling the princesses mane, the princess then saying as she shoved him away,
“YOU KNOW I HATE THAT!!”
The fox then laughed as the princess sat down to try and fix her now completely disheveled mane, the fox then saying,
“So you do remember me then.”
The pony looked back to him then says in response,
“Only enough to remembered you always did that, and that I always hated it.”
The fox laughed again as Twilight, her friends, and the royal guards watched the reunion, noting the utter lack of anything formal, no titles, no proper greetings, if anything their reactions to each other where worse then twilight and her Friends would act with each other, finally Twilight asking,
“Uh Princesses, you mind me asking how you know Alex?”
AJ then added throwing her two cents in,
“Yeah, ya’ll seem rather chummy.”
The two princesses nodded before Celestia said,
“Well, there is a bit of a story there, if you want to hear it.”
The fox stopped her then said,
“Better idea, I’ll show it to them.”
They all looked on as the fox lifted his hand then snapped his fingers, everyone being blinded by a bright white flash.
