The female kitten woke with a frightened shriek a hand pressing on her ass as a voice spoke,
“Hey, time to swap with that brother of yers.”
She rubbed her eyes then pulled away from the male who had started getting friendly with her butt. He leaned back with a grin, laughing as he walked away; she didn't like this, it was nerve wracking that whole night and early morning the kittens had to watch their backs, the crooks around them clearly couldn't be trusted, the fools seemed to be getting less being worried about what the wolf would do and more wondering what they could they get away with till he found them. She got up quickly she had been so tired she actually feel asleep, but that aside checked her gear then went to go meet up with her brother, the boy having needed to patrol the area around the encampment. It didn't take to long to find him, the girl letting him know she was coming the way they agreed on last night, purring, the low hum of the girls purring ringing into her brothers ear the boys head shifting to see her, a smile as he watched her approach. She smiled back at him pulling him into a hug. After the short greeting the girl looked up her brother smiling once she noticed all the birds that had been flying around and chirping and singing in the crisp mourning air, but after listening to the sounds of the birds for a moment she asked looking at her brother,
“Hows it going?”
He shrugged then said looking up as the birds lifted off the branch and flew off into the forest, the distant sound of bird song the boy then said,
“Decent I guess, managed to spook a pair of hunters that where getting a bit to close, they turned tail.”
She nodded standing next to her brother as they continued to walk around, not before very long looking at the high window of the room the princesses was in, most likely asleep as the room was quiet; too quiet for the needy princess they quickly found out later that night she loved fucking with people it turns out. Nodding at each other they continued their patrol before long the boy asking as they stopped just out of ear shot of the men at the door mainly to ignore the bandits talking about raping women and to hear the birds singing off in the distance,
“I wonder what master is doing right now, you think he got a job after we left?”
She nodded saying as the forest kinda got quiet,
“I'm sure he did and some poor bastard is if not already dead then about to be.”
He nodded but then looked up as his ears twitched, looking around for a moment something didn't feel right, the boy asking,
“You hear that?”
She peaked up a bit the girl looking toward where he was looking and tried to listen but didn't hear anything, the girls eyes blinking when she realized thats what he was talking about the girl then saying,
“Where are the birds?”
The boy nodded looking around, his sister now next to him doing the same, they knew something was wrong, the forest had grown far to quiet, their master having once warned them about keeping an ear out for birds if birds suddenly stop singing something was going on. They barely caught a glint as it flew through the trees, moments later one of the males walking around on a similar patrol fell dead. They looked at each other with a nod the boy getting the the attention of the men at the door then telling them what just happened, a few grabbing weapons and following the kittens as others went inside to tell the others. As the twins lead the trio of bandits to where the man fell dead, the bandits rushing over to find out what happens the kittens however did something else, they climbed up a tree hiding in it as they got a better field of view. They looked on as a the three bandits looked around trying to look for whoever killed him, a figure stepping out of the shadows and stabbing one man, Realizing they where under attack the twins move to help their would be allies the second man locked blades with the figure, for a moment locking blades with the man before shoving him back in time to parry a blow from the third man. The cloaked figure punched the third to get him to fall back a moment so he could once again focus the second man the, the man swinging his sword at the cloaked figure, said being seeing more targets coming in from the base knowing his stealth approach just got blown, then looking up when he figured it out seeing a cloaked figure drop at him from a tree, a rookie move, the figure reaching out and grabbing the boy then throwing him at one of the brigands opening a chance, at that moment to slash open the third mans chest. The male kitten looked up from where he had landed after being thrown, their foe was skilled, watching the figure kill the second man he then looked up his sister ready to try her luck as the figure turned to get ready to face the new combatants rushing at him, only to look up when a branch under the girl snapped, the cloaked figure reacting with a thrown weapon hitting the girl in the side, the kitten only just able to maintain her balance in a way the didn't end up with her falling to her death, she still fell out of the tree though, the boy reacting to save his sister from the follow up blow he already saw in motion. Grabbing tight his dagger the boy rushes his target, getting his attention allowing his twin to land, a painful cry escaping her mouth that made the cloaked figure double take for a moment but seeing a few of the bandits approaching with bows and taking aim he did what he could, he grabbed the boy by the scruff of his collar and threw him at the males the boy crying out in pain as he hit one of the males distracting the other archers for a moment who then didn't see spikes hit their chest, the males bucking under the hit and collapsing under their own dead weight. The twins got up seeing the cloaked figure reading for their attack the twins looking at each other then with a nod charging the figure hoping to use numbers to overwhelm their foe, the boy charging the male from the front the girl from behind. The twins growled as they got into arms reach of the male their target almost dancing around them as they swiped at him with their daggers, the male locking both their daggers with his sword allowing them close where they could see the smile under the hood their master then saying,
“A lot of potential, kittens.”
They looked up shocked to see their masters face under the hood the wolf elbowing the boy in the gut and then kicking the girls side buckling both under the weight of his blow, mainly to get them out of the way as more bandits got close, armed with all sorts of weapons some with bows and cross bows others swords, axes, and other melee weapons. The kittens groaned in pain their master grabbing them up then tossing them out of the way shouting as he turned in time to parry another attacker,
“STAY!”
What followed next left the kittens speechless watching their master fight with ten to one odds, throwing that first male back who was armed with what looked to be a hatched or a small ax, throwing him back and running him through grabbing his ax as he fell dead then tossing it past the next man who charged the wolf. The man figured he must have missed as the ax soared past him now more so intent on killing the wolf before him, only hearing the man behind him let out a bloody croak as the ax lodged itself in the man behind hims throat, the wolf then clashing with the man he ignored at first. The wolf locked blades with him for a moment looking behind him as more ranged combatants took a position and lined up shots, the wolf scowling now that his fight just got a little harder, shoving the man back but then grabbing the bandit once he was off balance and using him as a shield as several bolts where shot his way, three sicking hits sinking into the mans chest, he was dead as the wolf threw him at another bandit who was stopped in his tracks when the dead weight hit him, the wolf using that moment to relive that bandit of his head, the swing of steel ringing out as it cut through bone blood flying through the air as a head rolled, the wolf shoving the dead man down as he turned on the next. The kittens watching their master go through bandit after bandit his swift motions and attacks all had purpose and flowed into his next attack seamlessly; the wolf after killing another man with his blade dropped the sword reaching into his cloak as he started throwing his spikes one after another men falling dead like flies as one after another the wolf continued tossing spikes hitting one man, who managed to get within striking distance of the wolf, in the heart, he fell dead at the wolfs feet seconds after the wolf's gaze met his.
The assassin continued tossing a few more spikes till he stopped cold in his tracks, a field of bodies both dead and dyeing now before him, the silence in the air was surreal, it was as if all life in the area was holding a collective breath terrified of drawing the wolfs gaze. The wolf panted for a few moments observing the battlefield for a moment more seeing no more attackers, knowing what remained of them must have retreated into the base to protect their prize, once satisfied that the immediate danger was over he turned to the kittens speechless at witnessing first hand their masters skill, watching the lingering blood lust in the wolf's eyes then the field of corpses in his wake, once his eyes meet theirs they where petrified, frozen in the gaze of the assassins gaze, till with an almost breath like sigh the fierceness in his face receded and he asked looking to his apprentices,
“Are you two alright?”
They took a moment both nodding their heads before answering in tandem “Yes master” as they started to get up. The Wolf approached the girl and removed the spike he had tossed into her left side, the male kitten asking as he did,
“How did you figure out it was us??”
The wolf let out a soft chuckle as he said,
“Don't underestimate my nose all breeds has have their own natural talents you cats have natural agility and grace, k9 breeds like myself have a great sense of smell,”
The wolf poking his nose as he then went on to say as he applied a bandage to the girls side,
“I could smell you two in this cesspit the moment I got close, from the smell of things they had you two scouting the perimeter of the base.”
The twins nodded the wolf then saying once satisfied with his medical work the kittens almost able to see the dots in the wolfs mind connecting as he then said,
“Alright you two come with me, your job is over,”
The kittens looked up at him and asked,
“Why?”
The wolf let out something of a growl as he then said,
“Because we're working for the same people.”
The kittens were confused but the stern look on his face told them he knew something they didn't, the wolf then ordering the kittens to retrieve his spikes, showing the empty holster under his cloak, in the thirty seconds this battle took from start to finish the wolf had managed to toss all thirty of the spikes he had on him. The kittens nodded then went about fetching his weapons from the bodies they were lodged in, each spike hit a heart and not a one of them missed. The wolf looked up at the small fort like encampment it was sturdy to say the least. The wolf looked back when John Lorris and his men marched into the clearing the lord of the county then saying,
“Bloody hell, that was quiet the show assassin, I see the tales of your skill are not just so, anyway where is my niece?”
The wolf looked to the kittens saying as they returned his spikes to him,
“Where is the girl?”
The kittens pointed at the fort and said,
“Inside, we can show you the way master.”
The Marquee looked at the two kittens and asked looking to their master,
“Are these strays yours?”
The wolf nodded then said,
“They are, seems I let them get hired by the men holding your niece, good for us though they will know where she is.”
The man nodded then said looking to the kittens,
“Then lead the way little assassins,”
Looking to the men behind him he then ordered,
“Get ready for battle men.”
The small collection of guardsmen behind them drew their weapons and lead by the wolf and the kittens cut their way into the base, the kittens leading them to the girls room, the wolf kicking in the door startling the girl inside who screamed then shouted as the door was kicked in,
“How dare you disturb me like this, i'll . . have you . . know . .”
She saw her uncle behind the wolf then girl then rolling her eyes saying as she did,
“Oh goodie uncle john,”
The girl mustering all the sarcasm she could rolling her eyes as she went on to say,
“I'm saved.”
The man cleared his throat and said,
“It is good to see you Melissa, now lets get out of this horrid place.”
The girl sighed but what could she do, the young princess getting up out of the seat she had been sitting in, taking her uncles hand as he lead the way out of the small fort like structure. Fates wheels turned however as once they were about to leave they were met by the king himself Maxwell Lorris and his royal guard, a look of pure dread filling his brothers face, the lord of the county approaching his brother then kissing the signet ring on his hand, John then saying as he fought to keep his nerve in the presence of his older brother.
“Maxwell my brother, please forgive me for my blunder, as you can see though I have righted this situation.”
The king looked over the field bodies everywhere his daughter safe and sound but looking bored out of her skull then to the shady assassin behind them. The king looked around for a moment then said looking back to his brother,
“Well brother this is a very bad mess you've allowed to happen, however you did rescue your niece so I suppose this once I will forgive you little brother, but do not let it happen again.”
The wolf walked past the kittens in tow the stallion looking to him then nodding at the assassin, the king then saying as he saw the wolf,
“For your part in saving my daughter assassin I will forget you where hear never let me see your face again or i will have you hanged.”
As he finished there was a pain filled shout, John suddenly impaled by with own mans blade the stallion saying as the man looked at the morph behind him,
“Its nothing personal Lord Lorris, but I have been given a better offer.”
The stallion gave a sharp whistle the kings guard now distracted by new attackers, the wolf then saying as the king drew his own sword ready to meet these men to protect his daughter,
“For what its worth I won't enjoy this.”
The king had only a moment the wolfs sword leaving its sheath then plunging past his armor and into his chest, the monarch shouting in pain, the kings guard looking back to see the assassin pulling his sword from the kings chest then cleaning the blood from it, the knight commander then shouting,
“Men the king has been wounded kill them all!”
The chaos that broke out gave the wolf a moment to look over to the little princess dumbstruck at seeing her father cut down right in front of her, the wolf then kneeling down to the man pulling a dagger from his belt intending to finish the man off lest he suffer, the princess however suddenly threw herself over her father saying as she did,
“Don't you dare foul beast my father is the king of this land don't you dare lay a hand on him!”
The wolf shoved her aside and said,
“If I don't kill him these men will bring him pain no mortal should have to suffer, I offer him mercy instead.”
The sound of the battle around them took a turn as more and moire armored men showed up and more then the last looking like foreign troops the king managing to look around seeing his troops and those of his brother one by one being slaughtered managed to figure it out what was going on, with a weakened and sickly tone the king spoke,
“Mercy, then perhaps you would do a dyeing man a last request, save my daughter, I beg you.”
The wolf looked at the mortally wounded king saying as he did.
“That's not why i'm hear, you'll have to offer me something.”
The king nodded taking the ring off his hand then putting it in his daughters, then saying,
“With me . . and my brother . . . . my daughter is next in line, . . . if it is gold you seek,”
The man then shoved his daughters hand into the wolf's hand and said,
“Return her safe and sound to my . . . my wife, she will . . . give you a kings . . . ransom . . for our . . . daughter.”
The man didn't have time to finish his statement, the girl distracted by her fathers speech didn't notice the wolf nod at the king then plunge the dagger into his neck; in the moments the wolf had before the king died he said,
“So be it, go to the next life knowing your daughter will live, I swear my name to it.”
The king's eyes closed for the last time moments after, leaving the wolf, his apprentices, and the young princess alone, the wolf however was more aware of the situation then the young ones where, the kings-guard where overrun and about to be slaughtered and the foreign troops weren't likely to let the girl go. The stallion knight with a grin said as he and what turned out to be his counter parts the two that left with the twins finally showed once again now dressed in armor of foreign design, the stallion saying with a grin looking to the little distraught princess,
“Good work assassin, rest assured that my employers will pay you handsomely there is just one thing left to do, the girl as heir to the throne must die, kill her or hand her over.”
The wolf looked over to the girl who's hand he still clutched, then back at the knight and the men around him, the wolf knew at that moment this was going to get bad, tossing the girl to the kittens the wolf grabbed not only his own blade but the kings as well, the knight saying,
“I can't say I saw this coming, so be it though, seems I shall be the knight that kills the notorious Lone Wolf, Men kill the assassin.”
The wolf turned to the kittens and yelled,
“Take her and run, she must live I have sworn my name on it.”
The kittens looked terrified looking on as the wolf managed to kill one of the clearly much better fighters then the bandits from before, the kittens then going numb when their master yelled once again the kittens shocked when they saw tears in his eyes,
“I SAID RUN DAMN IT!
An unnatural silence allowing the kittens to hear the wolf say,
“Please, survive you two, you must survive, I love you”
The moments after lead the wolf to brake out into an all out fight for his life, the sound of a pistol going off as the wolf abandoned all ideas of stealth he needed to be the target and snarling at the men in front of him drew all their attention, not the kittens behind him; the kittens felt their hearts breaking but heeded his request, even if it was against their will, the boy and his twin right behind him grabbed the princess trying desperately to pull herself back to her fathers side but was not strong enough to pull against the twins who despite the princess trying her damnedest to fight them was pulled away from the battlefield. The wolf watched with a heavy heart as the kittens fled but look up to the stallion who ordered a few men to follow after them, but looked down at an oil lamp that had been dropped by one of the kings guard and used it to set the forest ablaze, the line of fire quickly spreading behind him prevent anyone from following after the kittens, the stallion saying with a laugh,
“You really think you can stand before us all, once you are dead I will hunt down those little strays of yours and I will kill them.”
The wolf snarled at the knight and got ready for the fight of his life howling loudly into the night sky, meanwhile the kittens where fighting back tears as they rushed away from the battle only just able to hear their master howl as the battle begun they had never heard him do that the assassin had always been silent to avoid unnecessary attention, it was almost like he was deliberately trying to be loud to force all eyes on at him, the kittens using everything they had left to keep themselves from going back to him they knew why he told them to run, but they dared not think it, the princess in an almost broken state just mindlessly followed them, the kittens managing to pull her for what felt like miles before they finally broke down. They looked back at what they had came from, the forest was now engulfed in flames and the smoke from the burning wood filled the air slowly but surely, the kittens figuring they where far enough away stopped, the sobbing princess curling up in a ball against a tree; the sore, tired and equally distraught kittens finally collapsed sobs finally escaping from the female kittens mouth, unable to hold it back anymore, they knew what they had done, they left their master to die, there was no way even one of his skill could best so many men. It took a moment but after listening to his sister sob for what felt like hours the boy finally broke as well crying out loud as his sister joined him, both kittens between sobbing and loud gasp for air pleading with anything that might be listening to spare their master, swearing they'd do anything if he would be spared, did they expect it to work, no, they knew such things where only fantasy, a story told by the church to install the fear of god into the masses. It took some time the kittens and the princess both having cried for a long while but the fire was spreading and the air was getting thin, the boy with the faintest emotion forced himself up and said nearly robotic like as he pulled on his twins hand,
“Come on we have to go.”
His sister looked up eyes matted with tears but managed a nod as she coughed on the smoke more so then before filling the air; she nodded and got up the boy then going over to the princess and pulling her to her feet. They fled again this time from the smoke filling the air, the twins pulling the girl for miles again till they felt they where safe at least for that moment, but now utterly spent physically and mentally the twins and the little princess both collapsed and fell into a deep sleep. What they didn't notice was a figure, wearing a long white cloak, he approached the sleeping twins and the little human girl and sat down seemingly watching over the young ones. Looking over to where the twins had collapsed together the faces still matted with tears. The white hooded figure reached into his cloak and fished out something tucking it into the twins hands, the kittens in their deep sleep grabbing onto the card as if they knew it was important; the mysterious figure then sitting with and watching over the young ones till they had slept long enough. The mysterious figure was long gone before they woke late into the next morning. The twins looked at each other as they woke near soulless eyes looking at each other mindlessly wondering what they should do next, the boy casually looking over to the princess who was equally spent sat next to a tree, her head resting on her knees, having long since given up and both trying to go back and trying to escape. It took half an hour till the kittens noticed something, the small gold trimmed card resting under them the boy showing it to his sister, they noticed it had wording on it but for the life of them they could not read it, even when the wording seemed to change the boy asked,
“Any idea what it says?”
The girl shook her head, the princess then saying after a moment,
“Let me see it.”
The kittens looked to the girl who had pulled herself out of her grief for a moment when she saw the kittens trying to read the card, the girl then saying with a sharp sniff,
“Uncle John made sure I could read and write,”
The girl stopping for a moment as her face just screamed of regret, then saying as tears welled up in her eyes, trying to keep herself from breaking again,
“He told me that once that, 'No Niece of mine will be illiterate, or the devil can take me' he taught me himself, dropped everything to make sure I learned”
The kittens looked at the girl who in that moment looked as though she instantly regretted everything she had ever done to her uncle who only ever showed her love and affection, the irony of what he once told her long ago when she had pulled a stunt that gave him no end of trouble, The girl hearing her uncles voice say the words again,
“My dear sweet little niece, one day you will do something that you won't be able to take back, on that day you'll realize that everything you hold dear will only mean anything to you once you've lost it all, on that day know that your uncle loved you, unconditionally with all his heart.”
The princess looked to be on the verge of tears as she said knowing what he meant now,
“He always did anything he could to keep me out of trouble, i'm sure he could have just told daddy what I did, but instead he took all the blame for my actions, and now i'll never get to tell him i'm sorry.”
The kittens looked at the princess who had tears rolling down her eyes, they nodded at each other then walked over to her, handing the girl the card. She wiped her eyes then looked down at the card, the lettering to her at first illegible till it shifted into words she could read, the girl then reading out,
“We call to thee the light of hope, in our darkest hour, we beg for divine intervention.”
The card was weird, it spoke in a way that didn't make much sense who was this light of hope, And why did the glow of the words fade once they where read, but before they could ask the card itself glowed, then changed. New wording in the card now glowing, the boy asking,
“Its glowing again, whats it say this time??”
The princess nodded then looked at the card and read aloud,
“You're prayer is heard, and your hope is strong, the warrior shall once more greet the dawn,”
The girl stopping before saying,
“Divine intervention, the hero returning alive”
Looking up to the twins the girl asked,
“Any idea what that means?”
The twins shook their head till they heard the snap of a stick, the kittens quickly grabbing up their daggers and turning toward the sound, then looked on in disbelief, both trembling dropping their daggers as they became overcome with emotion as the beaten and battered wolf said as he dropped his blades having finally found them,
“Thank the gods, I finally found you.”
Both twins looked at their master, the wolf had a still bleeding wound in one side, and had a long scar running down the left side of his face that would have killed his eye had it been allowed to go any deeper. In that moment the kittens lost it, it was almost as though they couldn't get to him fast enough, the kittens sobbing out the words Master as they rushed to him, the wolf seemingly having beaten the odds and survived his battle. The princess then noticed the card she held had vanished but then looked toward the trio of master and apprentices she thought she saw something behind the wolf but dismissed it has the smoke playing with her eyes, the wolf collapsing into the kittens, who where just glad that he survived.

As darkness settled onto the scene though, the wolf straightening his hair and stood, The white hooded Alex walking back onto the stage that the lot of them found themselves on. The Wolf looked to the fox and nodded then saying as he faced the forth wall,
“Well ladies and gentlemen of my watchers I hope that you enjoyed this final section of book one, but now we have a little bit of meta forth wall breaking to do.”
The wolf nodded to the fox Alex then saying as he walked over to the wolf and the collection of very confused young ones,
“As you lot are surely aware, Ink Bunny the site you know this story is posted to and are most likely reading this at does not allow for humans to be in X rated situations.”
The wolf nodded motioning to his counter part then saying,
“Yep and seeing as you know me, and I have no intention of leaving the little princess here out of all the sexy scenes, you can see my problem, Ink Bunny will not approve she is human, so the solution is obvious, Alex if you will.”
The fox nodded then from his cloak produced a hair band with fake rabbit ears on it both oh which where white, the fox walking over to the little princess then put it on her head, the fox then saying as he turned to face the audience,
“So from this point she no longer a 'human' she is now a bunny or rabbit you know how often wolf swaps between the two words”
The wolf nodding then saying as the girl tugged on the fake ears but was unable to remove them,
“I am able to get away with this because my characters exist on a page of words alone so if I where to write that the bunny princess bounced in joy.”
The Bunny? Princess doing as the wolf stated and started bouncing around with a joyous look on her face, the wolf then saying,
“Then as far as the story is concerned then I am referring to an anthromorph, this whole bit here is simply to explain this change without giving away to much plus because I felt like it and I can, you will know who I am referring to and it won't break ink bunny's terms of service.”
The fox nodding then saying,
“She is now a bunny, understood?”
The bunny princess looked confused up at the two as she once tried again to pull the fake ears off trying to ask as she pulled on them,
“Why can't I take these fake ears off?”
The wolf looked back to the princess and said,
“Because they're real, well as far as the page is concerned.”
She was utterly confused, the princess looking toward the kittens who where just as confused, Alex then asking as he looked at his creator,
“So you finally get to use your fursona character hows it feel wolf?”
With a grin the writer responds with,
“Pretty good, just wish I could actually feel my character,”
With a laugh and a shrug he then says,
“Oh well I exist in my own head and on my own pages and thats all that matters.”
The fox nods then asks once more this time looking at the little ones,
“Should we be worried about them seeing the forth wall?”
The wolf laughed then said,
“Nah because when I start the next chapter to them it will be like this never happened.”
With a smile and a nod the fox watched the wolf snap his fingers and once again darkness and silence settled on the page.
