Fallen From Glory
Chapter 11
Missy woke first that morning, knowing she’d most likely do so, the cat had drunken himself into another stupor when he had told her of his past and about his sordid past as the pirate Blood Fang. She opened her eyes to see the cats chest, Rikket as it stood had grabbed her up in their sleep and coddled with her, pulling her tightly to his chest like she was a big feathery teddy bear. It took her a few moments to get free of the cats grip and when she finally did she found that now she smelt like booze all the same. Sighing but then giving the cat a pat she said quietly to herself,
“Well, guess I’m taking another shower.”
The young bird ruffled her feathers a little as she stretched into a yawn, then getting up to go into the bathroom. She did so quietly as to give the cat a little more time to sleep, quickly slipping out of her little nighty and panties before going to the shower, turning the water on before she got in, doing so once the water was to her liking. She stood in the water for a little while thinking about what she was told last night, thinking about how lonely the captain must have been despite the front he put on the crew, none of them knew about how much pain he was hiding. She looked down at her feet for a moment a frown on her face till she shook it off, about to reach for the cats shampoo till she heard the door open. The cat in question quickly stripped out of his clothing then got in having smelt the booze on himself once he woke, not even questioning why the shower was on when he walked in. She looked up to the cat as he got in, he looked like he was having a hangover and a half, his fur was disheveled and matted with whisky in places, he was quiet till he looked down to her, the cat then asking as he started to remember bits and pieces of last night,
“Guess you don’t mind if I join you? I seem to reek”
The girl shook her head then moving to help the hung-over cat in, wanting to help clean him up, sure it would make him feel a little better. Rikket rubbed his eyes a little as they hurt from the light, the cat then saying as he rubbed the girls head,
“Do yourself a favor, don’t get drunk, its not worth the hangover.”
The girl giggled then nodded, before telling the cat to squat down, Rikket only managing to sit on the shower floor, rubbing his temples as his head started to pound, the after affects of downing the entire bottle of whiskey coming back with a vengeance. He looked behind him as Missy began washing his hair, Rikket then asking with a soft laugh,
“What are you doing?”
She said with a smile as she lifted his hand to his nose,
“You stink, someone has to make sure you get clean.”
The cat nodded, his head was hurting to much to argue with her, he sat there for a few moments, allowing the young raven to wash the bulk of his body for him. The drumming in his head finally started to die down when she started to wash his chest, he watched the girl in front of him as more of last night came to him, then asking with a bright blush on his face,
“I . . . I did something highly inappropriate last night. . . . Didn’t I?”
The girl nodded, blushing a little bit herself then saying,
“Yeah . . . You mistook me for your wife once you where . . . Uh lets say gone . . . . . Then you put your thing in my mouth, and then . . . Down my throat.”
The cat smacked his face as he face palmed, then said as she continued to wash him,
“Sorry.”
She quickly said shooting him a smile,
“Its ok.”
He looked at the girl and cocked an eyebrow at her for a moment, then asking,
“You do know what I did to you was highly illegal right?”
The girl nodded then said,
“But I said it was ok, so its ok.”
His head was hurting to much to argue with her about it so he let it go for now, allowing the girl to wash him as best she could till he could stand at the least. His strength returned a few moments later once his head stopped pounding and he stood saying as he did,
“Thanks, I can wash the rest of myself now.”
The young raven nodded handing the cat the washcloth she had been using on him, then washing herself alongside him. They where quiet for a few moments as they washed up, till there was a sudden knocking on the door to his room, Rugger heard from the other side asking,
“Rick, you awake?”
The cat held his head as his ears rang from the what sounded to him like banging on the metal door, still sensitive to sound in his state, the cat however managing to respond with,
“I’m fine, just hungover to fucking hell.”
The two then heard him say from the other side of the door,
“Alright, I’ll go get you something to help with that.”
With that the turtle left, the young raven then saying as she looked up to the cat,
“Guess we should finish, would look bad if he got back and we where naked, together, in the shower.”
Missy giggled a little poking fun at the cat, the male in question looking away with a ting of worry, knowing even Rugger wouldn’t believe him to be innocent if such a thing came around. He looked down as missy then said,
“However later on, you owe me, k?”
The cat asked finishing up washing himself,
“I owe you what?”
The bird said with a smile and a blush,
“I want you to tell me what sex is, some of my friends talked about it but I didn’t understand what they told me.”
The cats ears folded down onto his head and his eyes opened wide for a moment till he asked, watching the girl finish up her own shower,
“How do you and your friends know about sex at your age anyway? Aren’t you all just in grade school?”
The girl laughed a little then said,
“I know, you’d never expect nice rich girls from a private elementary school would do such things, but I have some friends who tell us they’ve done it. . . What ever IT is suppose to mean, the only thing I’ve ever done like that was . . . . Well was last night.”
The cat let out a groan, running his hand though his hair as he said,
“Alright, tonight after I’m off duty, I’ll tell you about sex and love making and where babies come from and all that jazz about birds and the freaking bees too while I‘m at it. Alright?”
The girl nodded getting a towel to dry herself off with then giggling when she handed him one, before saying,
“And if you ever need whatever last night was again, you can ask me, you don‘t even need to get drunk to do so either.”
Rikket was taken aback by the forwardness of the girl, so bluntly offering herself to him, the cat muttering “Kids these days” as he dried himself, Missy then saying from the main room,
“Better hurry, mister Rugger is going to come back soon.”
A few moments later the two having enough time to get dressed waited for the turtle to return, Rugger knocking on the door and asking permission to enter the cat giving him to go a head. The turtle came in with what looked to be a normal cup of coffee for the captain and a cup of orange juice for Missy, the young raven eeping with delight when she took her drink. The cat took a hold of his coffee getting ready to take a drink as he watched Rugger watch him do so, Rikket then asking after taking a drink noticing the near instant pep returning to his step,
“Hey, it actually worked, I’m starting to feel better already, what did you put in this?”
The turtle took a small herb and put it in the table then saying as he did,
“It’s a not so well known herb that was discovered a few years ago, I was there when it was discovered to have medical properties.”
Rikket nodded taking another drink of the coffee and almost feeling the life return to him, the lot of them then looking up as Rikket’s first officer knocked on the door, the white tiger then saying after he had their attention,
“Captain, we just got word from the station, apparently they need us to come aboard, new mercenaries apparently showed up out of the blue last night, they want the captains to meet and talk strategy.”
The older cat nodded finishing his coffee then saying,
“Thanks for the message, I’ll go to the station after I have breakfast.”
Tigger nodded then walked off, the cat patting Rugger on the shoulder before turning to Missy, asking the young bird once she was finished with her drink,
“You hungry sweetheart?”
She nodded then got up when the cat motioned for her to follow.
The two had a breakfast in a relative hurry, Missy then joining the captain back onto the station, the cat being greeted by project manager Jonathan, the man greeting both captains once they where in reach,
“Good morning you two.”
Rikket shook the mans hand then said,
“Morning, so I’m told we’ve gotten more ships.”
The man nods saying as he held out an arm to show them the way to where the new captains where at. They entered the room to see no less then six captains eating and bullshitting with one another, Rikket recognized some of them, former pirates turned mercenaries same as himself, Jonathan then saying as they walked in,
“Everyone, I’d like to introduce you to the male that will be leading our developing fleet, may I introduce Captain Cornelius Rikket, captain of the Gun Singer, and this is Captain Jessa of the carrier Wild Wind.”
The few captains that knew Rikket played dumb introducing themselves to the cat alongside the others and then once introductions where out of the way the lot of them got down to business, Rikket asking as he was given the specs of each of their ships that where to be placed under his command,
“What’s the word on that battleship we where promised?”
The chimp captain was the one to respond walking over to the cat as he said,
“We’ve gotten word it had reached the jump gate closest to it late last night, it could be here in at least ten hours give or take.”
The cat nodded then saying,
“Alright we’re going to need to put together a battle plan, so lets get to work.”
They all nodded and got ready to work on a plan of action with the cat.
~some time later~
Missy was quickly found asleep in Rikket’s lap, the young bird having fallen asleep after the several boring hours of listening to the captains trying to come up with a plan of action, Rikket gently rocking her as she slept. He and the other captains had spent hours coming up with a battle plan, finally they had something he figured would work, it was risky but it could work. The other captains looked on at what their roles would be in the coming battles and agreed to the strategy. They where about to go back to their ships when a call rang out, the station com system ringing on as the same female from before then began saying,
“Attention command, we’ve received a distress call from our reinforcements coming from head quarters, they’ve been waylaid by the pirates and are requesting immediate reinforcements!”
Rikket stood and said as he turned to leave,
“Lets go, we can’t afford to lose those ships.”
The others nodded making the calls for their ships to make ready, Rikket doing the same as a groggy Missy tried her best to keep up with him. Within moments the Singer and all the other ships had left the station making for the reinforcement ships that where under attack. Once outside of the asteroid ring the ships lined up for a synchronized jump, Rikket then saying once they where ready,
“Attention all ships, prepare to jump in three, two, one”
There was a loud buildup of energy as the jump engines charged before propelling the ship forward shortly followed after by the other six. The jump was short and soon the small makeshift fleet was on the scene of the unfolding battle Rikket calling out as gunfire was quickly turned on them as well,
“Report!”
His first officer quickly said as reports from the field came in,
“The reinforcement fleet currently consist of seven ships, of those seven two are reporting minor damage, four more have suffered no damage so far, one however is in critical condition, their shields are gone, they have hull breaches across three decks.”
Rikket nodded then saying opening a com to all ships,
“All ships engage the ships firing of the damage vessel, cruisers move in to draw their fire, Wild Wind scramble your strike craft.”
There was a general reply from the battle group as they moved in to aid the friendly ships, the sound of gunfire from the Singer itself ringing out as Rikket commanded that the ship be brought in as well, several ships from the battle group moving in close to draw the heat off of the damaged ship, while the carrier and frigates provided long range support fire. The battle quickly whipped up into a large firefight as both sides traded weapons fire, things looking good until the two battleships decided to show their ugly mugs, a call coming from the damaged friendly ship as the battleships started to unload on it,
"Abandon ship! All Hands Abandon sh . . . "
The call was cut short as several new rounds tore the ship in two causing a massive explosion that consumed the ship, turning it into a giant fireball of an explosion as several sections of the ship where turned into infernos escape pods ejecting from the seconds of the cruiser that had yet exploded. As more and more of the escape pods where jettisoned from the doomed ship the battleships turned their gaze to the other ships in the battle group, the pirate carrier and flag ship then popping up behind the protection of the two battleships at which point it began scrambling its attack groups, fighter craft from both sides soon wrapped up into a huge dog fight as the capital ships from both sides traded volleys. Rikket watched the developing situation from his bridge it wasn’t a battle his side could afford to fight Rikket then putting out a call to all ships to begin a tactical retreat ordering the faster destroyer ships to scoop up the escape pods from the cruiser that was now little more then a fireball and wreckage, before putting out a call to the wild wind, Rikket saying as the half breed captain was on the other end,
“Jess, get ready to pull your fighters back, once the escape pods are collected up we’re going to get out of here those battleships have us dead to rights at the moment, we need to get out.”
The half cat captain then says from her end,
“Right behind you admiral, I’ll have my boys and girls provide cover for the pods best they can for a few minutes more then call them back in.”
Rikket nodded watching as left and right fighter craft from the pirate side of the battle went down, it was a clear case in that account, the wild winds pilots where far superior to the pirate pilots but what they lacked in skill they made up for in number the pirate carrier had apparently almost two times the amount of craft that the wwild wind had and as such slowly began to do damage by sheer numbers alone. It was a few minutes later when the escape pods where collected that one of Rikket’s officers had called out as the ship was violently rocked by weapons fire,
“Sir, Shields at fifty percent coherency!”
His first officer then saying as more rounds impacted the shields,
“I think the pirates have found out who’s in charge of out fleet here those battleships are all over us and their cruisers are moving in on us.”
Rikket nodded then asked looking at more reports from the field,
“What is the status on the escape pods?”
Another of his officers then said,
“All pods that made it have been collected sir.”
The ship shook more violently as the battle ships focused on them more, his officer from before then saying,
“Sir shields down to twenty five percent.”
Rikket nodded then said as the wild winds fighter craft began their return to their carrier, Rikket saying as all remaining friendly ships where now on their side of the field,
“All ships this is Rikket begin jump preparations, we need to get out of here.”
All ships acknowledged the order and began pulling away the hostile fighter crafts beginning to pester the fleet now that the wild winds forces had been recalled, and slowly under fire from both the hostile ships and strike craft made their ways to a reformed formation till finally the battle group began jumping away one at a time till finally all friendly ships where away. Once the ship was in light speed Rikket asked looking to his first officer,
“Damage report.”
The tiger nodded then said as he went about collecting data from all over the ship, Tigger then saying as he finally got a good idea of the condition of the Singer,
“Minimal damage sir, Engineering says the shield arrays where mildly damaged in the battle and that repairs will take several hours, also getting scattered reports of minor to mild injuries from the crew. We’re shaken but still in one piece sir.”
Rikket nodded scooping up the young raven who had sat herself down in his chair when the ship started shaking, Rikket then sitting down and setting the girl in his lap idly stroking her head as he unwound from the battle. It took a few moments but soon all ships arrived on the outer ring of the station Rikket then saying as he put out a call to the other ships,
“Attention fleet, this is Rikket, I want damage reports as soon as you can.”
There was a general acknowledgement from the ships as Rikket and his bridge crew sat back as the fleet one after another flew into the encircled station. It took a few hours but Rikket eventually got his reports, most ships reporting only minor damage at most, The wild wind however reporting that they had lost at least five pilots in the battle. Rikket nodded as he looked over the reports despite the lost cruiser they had only taken minimal damage, it was pain as day to the cat that the pirates tactics are base at that, focus fire on one ship at a time as it was, even with all their firepower it was wasted with such a tactic, it would prove useful information in later engagements. He looked over from his chair as the ship once more docked with the station as a few others made for the small repair yard. Rikket looked up to his first officer and said to the younger cat as he got up,
“Tigger, you’ve got the bridge.”
The tiger nodded taking a seat in the captains chair as the cat left the bridge carrying the young raven in his arms, the girl having nodded off after the battle. He returned to his quarters and tucked the girl in letting her get some sleep before her got a call asking him to come to the station for a situation report, Rikket nodded giving the girls forehead a kiss before leaving the room behind. He looked forward as he made for the airlock knowing more battles lay ahead.
