It took me a while to know when I wanted to post this up after it was completed, I had planned for it going up after chapter 4 had been done but then I got caught up writing the next chapters. But I think now is a good time to post this since Shawn(Bulbasaur) has become a deeper character and this scene here shows a bit of that. He is more than the cocky friend/rival to Alister, but is someone that has a reason for his motives.
Even though those motives are not always in everyone's best interest.

"I can't wait till the end of summer, you want to know why?" Shawn asked his best friends. He had been excited to tell them what his family's big project was, an arena that would end all arenas. Its construction was nearly complete with plans for it to become open to the public in the near future. The domination tournament was decided on just yet but Shawn was sure that he could convince his father to let him host it though. "That's nice Shawn," Basil responds. Shawn noticed that Alister wasn't speaking much, the Minccino seemed to be thinking of something other than what Shawn was telling him. Well, he had one way to get his attention.
"Well let's just say that you shouldn't be in it Alister, I mean...unless you like being everyone's fuck toy."

So it was odd for Shawn to be approached by Basil one day with her telling him that she wanted to find common grounds and figure out how to share Alister. Shawn tried to play it off but she knew better. Basil told him that she's not stupid and would rather Alister keep his best friend and her. This was before Basil and Alister became mates. It was ironically Basil who proposed to Alister who had a little episode...but that was another story together. This story was about Shawn.
"Oh I know Basil and might I remind you how good you look tonight," Shawn smirked.
"Oh, brother..." Basil rolls her eyes. "I'm staying out of this, have fun."
"What do you mean have fun!" Alister taps his hands against the table. "Shawn's being an idiot right now. An idiot who if he doesn't shut his mouth I'm going to shut it for him."

"You know Alister I was going to maybe invite you to the tournament but...maybe it's best you don't play. Alister was so predictable, says the right thing and he gets mad. He's the jealous type, loves to rush in, and throws paws before thinking of a better way to win a situation, and when things don't go his way he gets all moody. But it didn't make him dislike him, in fact, he loved him for it. Behind that hotheaded persona was the heart of a Pokemon who would put himself in danger for those he cared about. He got hot-tempered because he wanted to protect Basil and him, even if he didn't see it that way.
"BEHAVE YOURSELVES!!!" Basil pulled Alister off of Shawn, she pushed them apart. "Would you two cool off?"
"Is that the best you've got Alister?" Shawn chuckles, his face was in so much pain but he'll play it off.
"SHUT UP SHAWN!"
"Why not we put our money where our mouths are, or in this case pride. You and me dominance battle, let me show you what your in for." Shawn says.
"I'll kick your ass!" Alister growls. The manager walks out.
"Have you three lost your minds?" He asked.
"Nope!" Alister says while walking towards the exit. "Just sitting over here defending my mate's honor, you know as a proper gentleman should...."
Shawn pays for their meal and leaves out shortly after Alister and Basil had left. He was excited to see what their next encounter would bring, the Bulbasaur hated having to pretend to be a cock...actually no he would be lying, it was so much fun to be a cock. Shawn needed an opening, it didn't have to be large but it needed to be long enough for him to begin his comeback. Alister was predictable, not that stupid...just predictable.
