Since his transfer here He hadn't once seen any sign of others thinking ill of him due to his linage. Alan was an Augment. Well in a way. While he himself had never had any genetic work done his grandparents on both sides of the family had been among the Original Augments. Alan himself retained essentially all of their enhanced features to the point that he sometimes wonders if maybe the victors of the Augment War might not have exaggerated his ancestor's \"diminished sense of morality\" Indeed if his grandfather's journal was any indication Alan couldn't help but think a lot of history had been spun. But he tried not to let that get to him. Even if some of the people running StarFleet weren't thrilled about him being allowed to join. Never having had any work done on himself Alan technically couldn't be considered an augment. Of course that didn't stop other officers on his last assignment from considering him as such or a few teachers at the academy. They all proved to be challenges Alan could overcome. Of course with fewer humans here he didn't have the stigma. It helped that the Captain was Denobulan. Captain Phell was a good man as far as Alan or anyone else was concerned. Maybe that's why he'd been so willing to take Alan on board even if it meant having to make room for two officers. Speaking of Alan smiled as he entered the Mess and saw certain Romulan sitting in the corner tapping a chess with a smirk. Enhanced or not Alan rarely won matches with Savex. Romulan with a mind as keen as any Vulcan's but more willing to pay attention to an instinct. In short so good it was scary. Alan walked over and the two kissed before sitting down and beginning their game.
