Though Tez here is only lightly redesigned. All I changed for the Voth here was making them digigrade as since their dino ancestors were it doesn't make sense they'd revert to a plantigrade walking style.\n\nTez sighed as he walked through Main Engineering aboard the Endeavor. It'd certainly been a long tour out this time. While the Endeavor was a ship of exploration it was able to make regular stops at DSD1. Deep Space Delta 1. The primary Federation station in the Delta Quadrant. Situated at the nearer end of the Delta Quadrant to the Beta Quadrant. The Endeavor made regular return trips to the station for repairs and just general shore leave for the crew. There was a LOT of space left unexplored. Charted but not really explored. Voyager had only been ONE ship after all with it's primary concern being just getting home. It charted and mapped the region but it was up to ships like the Endeavor to truly explore these new regions. So with all that space to explore but with the advantages of the new Quantum Slipstream drive technology it was practical to make stops back at the station. At present Endeavor was making it's way back to the station after a particularly nasty run in with a Herogen hunting party which had taken it upon themselves to hunt a ship of former Borg Drones. Endeavor had taken the initiative and fought off the Herogen but sustained heavy damage. Tez had spent the last few days with his Engineering teams getting things back in order as much as he could. He was frankly tired but work still needed to be done. The Slipstream drive required a lot of attention and if something went wrong and no one noticed it could be catestrophic. Tez cringed thinking about all the things that could go wrong on top of the report about Voyager's own test of the original prototype. He was so lost in his own world he hadn't noticed a deminutive figure approaching until she spoke up.\n\n\"Lost in subspace?\" Asked a female Ferengi in a gold shirt making Tez jump.\n\n\"Asla! Damn don't scare me like that! Ug.\" Tez grumped and rubbed his forhead before sighing. \"Sorry. Guess I am. It's been a tiring few days.\"\n\n\"Tell me about it. I've been running all over the ship coordinating this team or that team. Checking in on the Ex Drones we took aboard. It certainly has been busy.\" Asla said listening off everything as she looked up at the tired Voth.\n\n\"Well with all that going on what brings you down to engineering?\" Tez asked genuinely curious about what had brought her down here.\n\n\"Well I was on the bridge sorting through Comms stuff when a message came in. It was marked from your grandfather. I know you wanted to know as soon as you got something. Internal comms are being a bit futzy so I've had diagnostics going on that so I brought it down myself.\" Asla said with a broad smiling and held up a pad to Tez.\n\n\"Asla you didn't have to come all the way down here just for that. It could have waited.\" Tez said with a smile as he took the pad in hand. He brought up his Tri-corder's holodisplay and swapped the message over to it before handing the pad back.\n\n\"I know but I needed an excuse to get off the bridge for a bit. And I thought I'd take care of the Comms stuff down here and save your guys the work.\" Asla said as she headed towards the lift Tez had just come off of.\n\n\"Thanks Asla I really appreciate it. Let me know if you need anything though\" Tez said as the lift started to descend.\n\n\"Will do. Hope the message is good news.\" Asla said with a wave before descending out of sight.\n\nTez stood there a moment mentally debating if he should read the message now. He started walking a few steps but stopped, looking back over his shoulder at the lift and then back down at the tricorder on his belt. He shook his head and smiled tapping the device and looking at the holographic screen it produced over his right arm. He read through the message with a grin and a flush of color to his scales. Grandpa Gegan had discovered ancient remains of Voth on Sauria and was now engaged in a joint operation with the Sauroids there. Piecing togther the story of their people's long jounery so long ago between Alpha and Delta quadrants. Tez couldn't help but be proud and happy for him. But beyond that his grandfather had prattled on about this or that going on with the family. It was the Touch of Home that made Tez feel just a little less tired that he had before hand. It made the day easier to get through. Tez had to remember to thank Asla again for that and maybe do something for her. It'd only been a year and a half but already she felt like the sister he never had. He noticed she tended to do that with a lot of the crew. She helped make them a family too and in a way bring that Touch of Home to the ship as a whole. Home was out there with his grandfather and parents but it was also right here too. Far away and close at hand.
