\t--Outer Continent, Donna Plains, between Black Mage Village and Conde Petie, six months \tafter Vivi's return, 15:43--
\tThe skies were a light gray over the continent as a thick layer of Mist covered the surface of Gaia. Very little in the way of clouds made for a dry and hot climate in the desert sands. Nobody lived out here aside from the wild creatures that wandered it's sandy expanse. The few that did live out in this section of the world were either the Dwarves of the nearby Conde Petie settlement, the Moogles of the abandoned Summoner's village of Madain Sari and the rest were the Black Mages and the Genomes of the Black Mage Village deep in the southeast forest known as Magdelene.
\tUnderneath the desert sand, a trail was slowly moving, barely visible to anyone above ground, moving in a random slithering pattern. It was alone, moving at a slow walk for several seconds before it suddenly stopped and moved about in a slow circle a few times. Once it had stopped moving, the being under the ground magically appeared directly above where it was on top of the sandy ground, a short comical looking cactus with arms and legs bent in opposite angles starting to hop up and down about 4 times a second as it looked around the area. The creature was known as a cactaur, famed for its incredibly annoying demeanor, quick speed and battle tactics when trying to fight it.
\tWithin seconds, the sky above it began to grow darker and darker, the cactaur slowly looking up to see what was going on... only to be met with a huge fiery meteor that slammed into the ground and killed it, the meteor magically dissipating and the cactaur suddenly ceasing its hopping in place and then falling over to its death. “Yyyyyeaaaahhhh I got one!” a youthful voice said off a short distance away as a group of seven short black mages approached the fresh kill.
\t“Yyyyeaaahhh... that WAS a bit overkill, though... and VERY risky...” Vivi said to his second son after his jubilant shout of joy. “Okay guys... what do we know about cactaurs?”
\t“Ooh, I know!” Vivi's fifth son said, raising his hand briefly. “They can appear either solo or up to four at a time in the desert.”
\t“Right,” Vivi said. “What else?”
\t“You can only safely attack them one at a time and only when they have appeared above the ground,” his third son said.
\t“You got it,” Vivi said, sagenodding slowly. “And what happens when you don't?” he asked, nudging his sixth son for the answer he KNEW this particular son knew already.
\t“Ugh! Otherwise they immediately retaliate by flinging a thousand needles at you, even if they die,” his sixth son replied, slouching forward and adjusting the brim if his steepled hat in slight embarrassment. “I remember that one... it bloody hurt!”
\tAll of the other sons chuckled at the answer. “Right,” Vivi continued. “So even though that cactaur was by itself, why was Meteor not such a wise choice?”
\t“It's not a guaranteed hit,” his first son said. “It has a chance of failure.”
\t“Yep,” Vivi said. “And if there WERE more than one, and if one or more WERE underground when it was cast, and it DID hit...”
\tAll of his sons groaned at the theoretical outcome, even his second son who cast Meteor just now. “Oof... okay, yeah, that would've REALLY hurt me...” his second son replied, realizing his potential mistake.
\t“No kidding! We would've had to use a Phoenix Down on you after the battle, followed by quite a few Hi-Potions,” his fourth son said.
\t“Right. And what else do we know about the cactaur?” Vivi asked.
\t“They're weak versus Fire based spells!” his third son said.
\t“Exactly. So keeping all of this in mind, what two spells would be most beneficial against them?” Vivi asked with a smile.
\t“Firaga and Flare!” his six sons replied in unison, raising their arms in the air excitedly.
\t“Well done, my boys!” Vivi said happily, his heart beating happily to hear his sons learning and understanding well. He then looked up at the skies, seeing the sun peeking gently through the Mist, raising his hand to see it was two hand-widths above the horizon. “Alright, that is enough battle practice for today, my sons. We have about two hours before sunset, so let's take the griffin and zemzelett we caught earlier and bring them back to the village for supper.”
\tVivi and his sons picked up everything and made it back to the Black Mage Village in short time with food for everyone. The griffin and zemzelett carcasses were given to the Genomes to prepare for a meal on the large spit on the communal firepit behind the village huts. Vivi and his sons all went to a nearby spring to disrobe and wash before dinner. When they had returned, they all gathered around the firepit and joined all the rest of those still in the community and chatted about his son's progress in spell casting, learning and battle strategy.
\tIn the time since Vivi had created his sons with magic, there had been less in the Black Mage population in the village. Some of the earliest produced had reached the end of their life and 'stopped', their bodies having been buried in the cemetery to join the remainder of their brethren that had passed on. Some notable people were Mr 32, the assistant shopkeeper of the Black Cat Synthesis Shop... Mr 33, one of the caretakers of the village chocobo they lovingly named Bobby Corwen... Mr 56, who frequented the cemetery to remember his departed friend Mr 36... as well as three or four other black mages of early production in the double digits. The concentration of Genomes were slowly becoming greater in number, and not just from the passing of some of the Black Mages.
\tMany of the Genome couples were happy together and also, thanks to Vivi's storytelling about his lovemaking with Ruby in Alexandria, they were now pregnant. Mikoto and five other females were with child, their bellies round and their spirits high. Their time with the Black Mages in the village along with their expecting young made their lives happier and fuller, feeling much more accomplished and satisfied having actually lived a life as a free human being instead of as a living vessel to unwillingly house a spirit from Terra in the far future.
\tAs Vivi sat amongst his sons at the firepit eating dinner with everyone, he couldn't help but look over at all the female Genomes that were with child, their male partners holding close to them and helping them closely to make sure they were as comfortable as possible. Despite enjoying his time with his sons and everyone else in the village, not to mention feeling accomplished at being a smart and strong father figure for his six sons, looking at all of the heterogeneous couples made him feel lonely... not just from the companionship of traveling the world with Zidane, Dagger, Quina, Steiner, Amarant, Freya and Eiko... but he missed being with the love of his life, Ruby in Alexandria. His mind then went to remembering the beautiful sexual moments he had with Ruby when he was with her last, smiling as he remembered the blissful fleeting moments with her. His loneliness was soon replaced by a bit of worry... was she pregnant as well? Did his lovemaking give her a child to carry as well? For the first time ever, he felt being in Black Mage Village was the wrong place for him to be... he felt if she WAS with child, he should be with her in Alexandria to support her.
\tHis thoughts continued in worry throughout the night, his mind unable to get her out of his mind, keeping him from sleeping well that night, the first time in many weeks that he had thought endlessly about Ruby. Even if he did make it back to her, he was likely not to survive until the child was born... endless thoughts about Ruby and him flooded his mind the rest of the night. Sometime halfway through the night, he couldn't help but get up and look through his collection of books for the one that covered human biology, and began to read earnestly.
\t--the next morning, 10:54--
\t“To Alexandria?” Mr 288 asked quizzically.
\t“Yes,” Vivi said as he packed the last of a few belongings in a bag. “For about a month, no more. I just realized that there are a few things I left behind there and need to get to bring back for my sons, not to mention...” he then sighed sadly... “...I must admit... I do miss Ruby... a lot... and with the short time I have left, I wish to be with her at least one more time...”
\t“That's totally understandable, my friend,” Mr 288 said, placing a hand on Vivi's shoulder. “We will look after everyone and everything for you while you're gone.”
\t“Thank you, sir,” Vivi began. “Please teach my sons some more on spells and battles with a few more of the weapons, bracers and accessories in the storage hut as well. I have a list of what they still need to learn in there, too.”
\t“It will be done, Master Vivi,” Mr 288 said. “Please be careful in your journey and take care of yourself.”
\t“Will do,” Vivi said. He took about a half hour visiting the rest of the village occupants to tell them of his journey. He then came to his sons and gave them a fond farewell with a hug each. “And you boys mind yourselves, take care of each other and the rest in the village. Continue your studies and listen to Mr 288 in his teachings.”
\t“Must you go, dad?” his third son asked, nearly in tears.
\t“No need be sad, my boys,” Vivi said, hugging his third son again, the rest joining to hug all around their dad before he got ready to leave. Those words hit Vivi hard in the heart as he remembered those words being spoken by his grandfather Quan before he passed away.
\t“And remember... we are all responsible for our actions, no matter what we do, yes?” he said encouragingly. They all nodded and stood around Vivi. “You are all my proudest creations. I shall return... I promise...” he said before putting his bag onto his steed, Choco, who had been evolved into a Gold chocobo during his travels with Zidane and company and had acquired the ability to fly. Once his travel bag was attached to Choco's side, Vivi then got up and climbed onto Choco's back and gave everyone a smile and a wave, everyone smiling and waving back at him before he turned around on Choco, gently clicked his heels into Choco's sides, the tall golden avian giving out a hearty and happy “Kweeeh!” to get him to flap his wings happily, rising up into the air from the forest at the beginning of the village, then flew southward towards the Mist continent.
\t--Alexandria Plateau, several hours later--
\tVivi flew onto the Mist Continent on Choco and landed in the forest just east of the Kingdom of Alexandria. He could see from the air that in just over a half year since the destruction of the castle, it was really coming back into life in the rebuilding process. The castle looked very close to complete from the outside aside from the upper parapets and the mirror finish of the beautiful sword in the front center. He could tell there was still a lot of work to be done, but he couldn't help but smile at the sight of the rebuilding progress. Once he touched down onto the ground, he hopped of Choco and began to walk with him into Alexandria, the sights of the kingdom bringing back memories of the first time he came to here, the first time he met the great friends he had come to know and has always treasured in his heart.
\tHe passed by the tavern on the main artery street leading into the city and then took a left at the city center, remembering that was where the ticket booth was for the play almost a year ago. He chuckled to himself as he remembered when he was there and presented his unknowingly fake ticket to the Ticketmaster behind the booth. The city center was bustling with life, everybody looking quite happy and occupied with their daily tasks. The buildings and houses here looked in great shape, mostly complete in their repairs aside from roofing here and there. He noticed the weapons shop and synthesist shops were open again with fresh new signs, made by Dante the Signmaker if he had to guess.
\tHe traveled a little further down the street and he could see the staircase leading down into the dwelling that was Ruby’s mini-theatre, a sign by the opening of the stairs saying

\tVivi smiled at the sign before he slowly walked down the stairs and saw the front booth was empty, the tables and chairs all empty aside from one where he could see two figures sitting in chairs with their backs to Vivi, and he recognized both. The first was a very tall and very round-figured and heavy-set man with pointy ears and dark pink hair. Vivi recognized him as Baku, the leader of the Tantalus Theatre Troupe. The other he also recognized, and his heart went a-flutter when he saw her. Even from behind as she sat in her chair and he heard her voice, he knew that was Ruby.
\tThey had been cutting up tickets to prepare to sell to the masses and putting them all in small
boxes to transport. “Gwahahaha... this’ll be a good amount of tickets for the show, I think,” Baku said
to Ruby.
\t“You betcha, darlin,” Ruby said with enthusiasm. “This year’s show will be amazing. And I
better be up there as Cornelia this time, too!”
\t“Having Princess Garnet come up on the stage while trying to kidnap her was definitely
unusual,” Baku said.
\t“Yeah, it was a bit weird... but Cornelia is my absolute favorite character to play, so I don’t
want no mistakes this year,” Ruby replied as she softly rested her hands by her sides after she closed up a box of tickets.
\tVivi smiled and walked up silently to hold her hand in his. “I‘d happily pay to see my canary
on stage this year,” he said innocently. Ruby’s eyes and smile slowly went wide at the sensation of Vivi suddenly holding her hand in his, her head turning to him to see it was him, then she got up and bent forward to hug Vivi tight in her arms.
\t“Oh mah stars, it’s my favorite little man!” She said excitedly, picking Vivi up and hopping up and down in joy as she twirled in a few circles.
\tBaku couldn't help but grin wide and guffaw cheerfully as he clapped a few times while watching Ruby and Vivi hug. “Gwahahaha! Welcome back, little guy! How the heck ya been?”
\t“Really good, Uncle Baku,” Vivi said as he continued to cling to Ruby as she held him. Once she put him down, he couldn't help put quickly gaze nervously at her midsection... she looked flat there with no signs of pregnancy, a quick rush of relief washing over him inside. “The village is very happy and things are doing well. We're expecting our first births from the Genomes in a few months time.”
\t“That is incredible, darlin'!” Ruby said happily. “Things are doing well here, too. My plays are bringing joy and happiness to Alexandria and I'm havin' a blast doin' it all.”
\t“We're actually closing up for a week so Ruby can distribute these tickets out to certain resellers in Treno and Lindblum to spread the word,” Baku added.
\t“That is actually part of why I came back,” Vivi said cheerfully, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a gold coin of 1000 gil. “I was hoping I could get seven of them, please.”
\tBaku and Ruby's eyes and smiles widened a little at the word seven. “S-seven?” Ruby asked.
\t“Yep. One for me... and each of my sons,” Vivi said softly and proudly.
\tRuby couldn't help but gasp and smile wide. “Eee! You found the spell!”
\t“Hehehe, I did,” Vivi said happily.
\t“That is fantastic, my boy!” Baku belted out happily, his huge rotund belly shaking a bit as he threw his arms up and clapped. “There is never enough Vivis, I say! Congratulations, my friend.”
\t“Thanks, Uncle Baku,” Vivi said happily, giving the coin to Ruby as she gave him seven tickets. “And you can keep the change, Ruby.”
\t“Aaaawww such a sweet darlin,” she replied, leaning down to kiss Vivi sweetly on the lips for many moments. “Thank you so much, lovey.”
\t“You're quite welcome, my canary,” Vivi said cutely. “So when were you gonna head out to Treno and Lindblum?”
\t“I was thinking of heading out in the morning via airship,” Ruby said.
\t“Oh no, no need to do that,” Vivi said, shaking head head softly. “I can take you there on my chocobo!”
\tRuby and Baku stood there for a few seconds in disbelief as they looked down at Vivi. “Your... chocobo... sweetie?” Ruby asked.
\t“Yeah. He's outside. Wanna meet him?” Vivi offered, hand pointing outdoors.
\t“Oh, sure,” Ruby replied. They then walked out of the theatre and up the stairs into the street to turn around, and there they all saw Choco standing there calmly on the side of the street, reins tied softly to the railing surrounding the staircase going downwards. “Omigosh, he is sooooo adorable!” Ruby said as she gently walked up and began petting Choco on his head and beak, the big avian giving out a happy and cute 'kweh!' at the sight of Ruby before him.
\t“He is,” Vivi said. “Such an amazing companion we've had on our journeys.” Ruby then moved one of her hands behind Choco's ear and began to softly tickle at the base of it, the sensation making Choco rest his head on Ruby's shoulder and sigh happily and adorably, his right leg bending and flexing his toes gently, a sign of deep joy in the sensations. “Daaaawwww, he really likes you Ruby!”
\t“I like him a lot too,” Ruby said with a smile, still tickling the base of Choco's ear softly.
\t“Quite a magnificent steed, Vivi,” Baku replied. “Well, I'm gonna depart. You two gonna take care of the tickets for Lindblum and Treno?”
\t“Sure thing, Uncle Baku,” Vivi said proudly with a nod. “Take care.”
\tBaku then gave a thumbs up and walked out into the streets of Alexandria. Ruby then lowered herself down to Vivi, wrapped her arms around his chest and lifted him up off his feet and kissed him deeply and passionately on the lips for many seconds. “Mmmmm... I've missed you, my little big man,” she said sweetly.
\t“I've missed you a lot too, my canary,” Vivi said dreamily, leaning in to kiss Ruby on the lips some more as he hugged her with his arms and legs.
\t“You can stay here with me while you're visiting, darlin,” Ruby said softly.
\t“Thank you so much, my love,” Vivi said. “I could use a good rest here after the flight over.” Ruby nodded and walked them both inside again after Vivi fed Choco some gyshal greens. They spent the remainder of the evening having food and drink before falling to sleep naked in Ruby's bed. Vivi spent a lot of the night cuddled up by Ruby's side resting his head on her shoulder, looking down at her belly. His mind settled knowing that she wasn't pregnant from their previous lovemaking on his last visit, knowing he wasn't absent from what could've been a very important thing going on. He rubbed over her belly softly a few times as they lay in bed falling asleep, the thoughts of Ruby growing his children within her occupying his dreams that night, knowing that of all the things he had done and what short time he had left in his life... what was there left to be done...?
\t--the next morning, 09:07--
\tRuby and Vivi woke to a clear sky as the sun rose over the horizon, taking a short visit to the tavern to get a breakfast in them before heading out on their travels. “So you wanna head to Treno first, then Lindblum, my lady?” Vivi asked to confirm their planned route.
\t“That's right, darlin,” Ruby replied as they walked out of the tavern to Choco's side. “Basically a counter-clockwise route around the continent.”
\t“O-okay,” Vivi said, pausing for a moment. “If it's okay... there is a place I want to go to... one last time... before we get to Treno... it's not far at all from there...”
\t“That sounds good to me, love,” Ruby said as they walked hand in hand, Vivi holding the reins for Choco as they walked out of Alexandria into the neighboring forest. Once inside there, they climbed up onto Choco's back, Ruby first, then Vivi by Ruby reaching down to help raise him up and sit himself in front of her. Once they got settled safely on Choco's back, Vivi gently nudged his sides with his feet and pulled up a bit on the reins, Choco's wings beginning to flap and lift them up into the air, Ruby's arms gently squeezing around Vivi to hold on as they flew.
\t“Hehe No worries, love,” Vivi said encouragingly with a little more volume as they flew through the air. “Choco won't let you fall.” They flew for nearly an hour as they soared gently across the Mist filled skies, sticking close to the ground to see where they were going. Once they reached the rise of the plateau where Treno sat, Vivi guided Choco to fly to the east of the big city to a passage going up into the mountains, a path of trees covering the way until the path ended in a dead end at the edge of the mountains by the ocean. They landed at the end and dismounted Choco right in front of the entrance to what looked like a big cave.
\t“So what is this place, sweetie?” Ruby asked in confusion.
\t“Well... this is... where I was found... and lived with my grandfather for several months,” Vivi said.
\t“'Found?'” Ruby asked, eyebrow raised and head tilted.
\tVivi looked up at Ruby and nodded, holding onto her hand and guiding her inside the cave entrance. What was inside was a massive cavern with a winding path going from one end to the other. There was a rope that lead down to a deep depression below where a bubbling hot spring of clean mineral water emitted steam inside, but they continued along the path where there was another opening that led to a big room with a table, a couple of broken chairs and a lot of shelves surrounding the table on the curved walls. Vivi then walked to the other side of the room to a natural doorway where there was a patio that looked over the ocean below, a grandfather clock sitting off to their left side that had stopped working months ago. “This is my first home,” Vivi said.
\t“You used to live here, hon?” Ruby said, looking around at everything.
\t“Yeah... my grandfather was a member of the Qu Clan by the name of Quan... he was a magnificent expert in the culinary arts,” Vivi began. “He was out by this ledge fishing one day... and after several hours of not catching anything... he pulled me in... I guess I must've fallen off a cargo ship or something... anyway, he didn't know what I was, so he took care of me from that day on. I remember he was always worried that I wasn't growing enough over time. In the end, he began to eat less and less, and one day, he was gone... it was then I decided to leave and head for Treno... I bought a ticket for the play, which I later discovered was a fake, and someone there helped me make my way to Alexandria... and that is how I got involved with everyone there,” he said, Ruby kneeling down by Vivi's side, putting her arm around him and holding him comfortingly close.
\t“I'm here for you, sweet darlin,” she said softly.
\t“I'm... eternally grateful for that, my canary,” he said, tilting his head to rest his by hers. After some minutes, Vivi then went to the remnants of a fire inside the room under a huge skillet that had a severe amount of rust all over it. He bent down and picked up a chunk of charcoal, then walked to a part of the wall where Quan made height measurements on Vivi a long time ago. Vivi then raised his arm and applied the charcoal to the wall there and wrote “Vivi was here.” Ruby smiled and then gently reached for the piece of charcoal and then wrote some words of her own... “So was Ruby~” She then wrote a big heart with their names in it right next to the other markings, giving Vivi a kiss on the lips. They then hugged for several moments in silence before Vivi pulled softly away to look around the inside of the room for a minute or so... then sighed and adjusted his steeple crowned hat a little. “We should head to Treno now,” he finally said.
\t“Okay, hon,” Ruby said with a smile and a nod, standing up and lowering her arm to hold Vivi's hand as they walked through the cavern and back out to Choco outside. Once they got back onto him, they rode on the ground the rest of the way to Treno. The skies surrounding the city were always in a nighttime darkness, the temperatures gentle and cool for the residents who called the city home.
\tThey headed to the synthesist shop on the west end of the city to drop their tickets off when Vivi was recognized by the tenant behind the counter. “Well, hello there again, Vivi,” said Marco.
\t“Oh hey! Good to see you again,” Vivi said. “How've you been, Marco?”
\t“Same stuff, different day, really,” Marco said with a smile. “How bout you?”
\t“Pretty good,” Vivi started. “Been living with my sons across the world and we've been doing very well.”
\t“That is awesome, my friend,” Marco said. “What brings you back to Treno?”
\t“Well, this is Ruby of the Tantalus Theatre Troupe,” Vivi said, motioning to Ruby who gave a smile and a wink to Marco. “She and I are coming out to see if you would be willing to vend tickets for their show in a few months?”
\t“We'd be more than happy to!” Marco said, his hand reaching for a box of tickets Ruby was handing over.
\t“Why thank you so much, partner!” Ruby said with cheer. “I or one of my buddies in Tantalus will be by sometime after the play to collect the earnings, okay?”
\t“With pleasure, Miss Ruby,” Marco said, shaking her hand and then Vivi's. “And it has been incredible to see you again, Vivi. You take care and be your best for your sons, okay?”
\t“You bet, my friend,” Vivi said with a nod and encouraging voice.
\tVivi and Ruby then proceeded to head back out into the streets of Treno towards the entrance gates to depart. “You seemed to know Marco, hon,” Ruby inquired.
\t“Oh yeah, he actually helped me get to Alexandria from here last year,” Vivi explained. “His master agreed to bring me as a stowaway on his ship to get there.”
\tThey then headed out and left the city and got onto Choco once more for a long trip to Lindblum, continuing their journey along the southern ridge of the Mist Continent. The mountain ridges continued until they got to South Gate, then climbed down the mountain path to the bottom of the valley nearby Chocobo's Forest. They stopped by the natural spring there off the path to get a drink of fresh water before going out across the King Ed Plains towards the other end of the continent to the Dragon's Gate, the lower elevator which brought visitors to the plateau above into the regency of Lindblum.
\tOnce inside Lindblum, they walked side by side with Choco beside them and headed to the aircab terminal to head to the Business District. Once there they headed to Dragoos’ weapon shop to drop off the tickets for the play. They stopped by to visit Alice, whose item shop was nearly reconstructed and about to reopen for business. On the way out of the city, they stopped by the Theatre District to see the Tantalus Hideout, and it too was nearly complete in its repairs. The entire regency of Lindblum looked like it was totally recovered from the late Queen Brahne’s attack during her power-hungry reign that brought her own demise.
\tNo one was at the Tantalus Hideout today to chat with, so they just took a quick glance inside and out and headed back up the stairs to sit down at the bench by the aircab terminal. They sat in their usual adorable habit of Vivi sitting in Ruby’s lap, their arms wrapped around each other to hold close together, taking some time to sit and relax for a bit in their travels. It was during their sit-down that the Aspiring Artist Michael stepped out of his dwelling in the lower part of the street to take in some fresh air and stretch for a bit, taking a break from his artistic creativity.
\tHe then looked over at Vivi and Ruby sitting together and smiled, walking over to them with a smile and a wave. “Hi there, my name is Michael,” he said. “I couldn’t help but notice you two together and had to say you both look incredibly happy and adorable together. May I beg you for some time that I may draw you both as you are?”
\t“Ooh, I like that idea! How bout it, sweet darlin?” Ruby asked with a smile.
\t“Sure, that sounds fine by me,” Vivi said in a cheerful tone and a nod.
\t“Wonderful!
