As the first party had been heavily constructed of magic users that were potentially in dire need of a front line tank... and one of the members had been built as a \"smooth talker\" who intended to go ask for exactly such mercenary assistance. And though opportunities for the party to encounter them were plentiful, they never meaningfully crossed paths.
