  "description": "I've been wanting to make something like this for a while now and have finally gotten around to it. This is a topic I think more people need to discuss and more importantly something that needs more people to work against it. 'Conversion Therapy' marks a dangerous trend on the right that really needs to be called out.\n\nTranscript:\nA 'cure' for 'sin'?\n\nThere are many on the right-wing that seem deranged in their opposition to the LGBTQ community; to the point of decrying homosexuality itself as 'unnatural' and spreading misinformation and extremely ugly accusation about the community as a whole. We see them making up fake 'facts' about the transgender community in particular, alongside non-gender conforming people.\n\nThis, of course, should come as not much surprise to anyone that has been active in any online community or the political sphere, or the less fortunate that have been the victim of these conspiracy laden non-arguments themselves. However, what many people may be in the dark about is a practice that those on the right have lobbied hard for their ability to employ - and which is somehow legal across most of the US - this of course would be the pseudo-science known as 'conversion therapy'.\n\nWhat is 'conversion therapy'?\n\nWell, its a type of 'therapy' as the name implies, debunked and discredited by professional psychologists and human rights organizations, meant to 'cure' people of feelings of homosexuality, bisexuality, being transgender, or from otherwise not conforming to the grey-blob social outfit the far-right claim is their version of 'freedom'.\nThis procedure, they argue, is 'voluntary' and part of 'religious freedom'. Most people, however, that undergo it feel forced to do so. The procedure itself also involves rather tortuous things such as the use of electric shock therapy, verbal and emotional abuse, social isolation, and sometimes even rape and sexual assault. What is more is that they feel minors, who would have no choice in the matter of whether to undergo such a 'therapy' or not, should undergo these same procedures.\n\nIt seems to me, at least, that the right-wing talk of 'freedom' and 'individuality' when decrying the LGBTQ community is simply gaslighting to cover for their own hatred of both.\n\n'Conversion Therapy' represents a disdain for freedom, individuality, human rights, and dignity.
