Evany the hippo was one of them. She would meet Valkyn often for lunch or just to talk and he enjoyed that very much.\nOne day she didn't show up at their usual meeting time. At first he thought she might've just been sick or whatnot but almost two weeks drug by and he still didn't see her. He went on his rounds of the city slave markets and found out why, Evany had been sold into slavery and was awaiting sale. He couldn't let that happen but by city law he couldn't just free her so he did the next best thing, he bought her as his own personal slave to protect her.\nNaturally she was extremely nervous and afraid, stripped of her clothing and dignity. However she found the high priest to be even more of a good person than she originally thought. He protected her with everything he could and she grew to not just respect him but also like him. She finally confessed that to him one night and he told her just how special she was to him.\nValkyn told her that he wanted to see her free again, but had to follow the law. He offered her a way out though. By becoming a member of the temple, something allowed to slaves if their masters permit it, her slavery would be ended. However joining the temple isn't for everyone in that the way they practice their arts is extreme to say the least. He did show her a new device that they had recently built, a machine capable of inducing pain without physical damage and could be varied from minor discomfort all the way to being able to kill from sheer agony. He offered to train her using that device until she felt comfortable enough with pain to formally join the temple.\nEvany thought his offer over for a long time before she accepted his help and training.
