Three days she had followed the trail of the goblins that had survived the attempted raid on a nearby village. She had hunted their kind on her own plenty of times before, even outnumbered she was confidant she could handle the creatures. Plus the reward the villagers had offered for the head of the clan's chief was just too good to pass on for the cat... The trail of the fleeing goblins led her deep into the forest before suddenly vanishing without a trace. The only clue she could find were strange tracks that appeared to have been left by some manner of snake, except that she knew of no species of snake in the area large enough to leave such a trail... The first of the "vines" maneuvered silently through the treeline towards the unsuspecting predator from above; only her refined senses saved her from being caught immediately. Once she regained her balance, Kris measured up her assailant... or rather attempted to. She couldn't make sense of what she was seeing. Before her hung in the air, coming from seemingly nowhere, a massive vine; its end moved and followed her movements as though it were sentient, but there was no indication that it had eyes, never mind a brain... A rustling behind her alerted her to two more of the vine-creatures emerging from the shadows streaking towards her. Kris jumped up into the air to avoid the attack, landing to the side of one of the vines that was even now circling around to strike again. Her bow would be useless at this range so she resorted to using her claws as she slashed at the vine. ... No effect at all... The vine's surprising solidity combined with the slippery substance it seem to secrete along its length made it impossible to cut with her claws alone... Before she could formulate a new plan, a fourth vine emerged and was upon her, quickly coiling itself around her outstretched arm. Kris struggled to pull herself free of the vine, but its grip tightened with every passing moment. A second vine grabbed her free hand and the two pulled her arms apart painfully even as two more emerged from the shadows and ensnared her legs. A third vine, the one that had descended on her from above earlier, dropped down to bring its featureless tip to her eye level; it appeared to be sizing her up somehow... Moments later it began to push its way under the gap in her leather armor, snaking its way out beneath it before coiling around itself. Then it began to pull... The armor pulled at her chest painfully before suddenly giving way and being reduced to shreds under the vine's surprising strength. The rest of her clothes and gear quickly followed suit. Yet more of the vines appeared, closing off what little hope remained; even if she were somehow able to pull herself free of the four vines that held her limbs, there was nowhere she could run where the creatures weren't poised to recapture their prey... Naked, helpless, and alone, she resigned herself to her fate. Whatever this creature was, she was completely over-matched by it. Whatever fate had befallen the goblins, it seemed she was about to become the next victim...\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t | \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
Yet another YCH that I jumped on because... well... What can I say? I like tentacles. I especially like them when they force their way into spaces that shouldn't be able to accommodate them.
Anyway, the moral of this story is: it's dangerous to go alone...
