Part 2 here ", "writing": "Kody had really missed hanging out with Pepper. The two of them had been inseparable since they were little tots. Peppers shy demeanor and quiet nature always seemed to be able to sooth Kody even during the most stressful of times; and right now was no exception. With all that had been going on lately this was exactly what she had been needing.\nThe girls fell right back into their normal groove the moment they woke up the next morning. After Kody knocked out another good section of her homework they were taken out on an only-girls afternoon. Pepper’s mother took them out for an early dinner then to the mall to hang out until a movie they had picked out before they had left.\nDinner was at her and Pep’s favorite restaurant, a local steakhouse. Both girls ended ordering their favorite steak meals. The only awkward of their meal came when Pepper’s mother gave her some healthy eating tips for when you were pregnant. Luckily Pepper told her mother off for her, pointing out this was to help her decompress. Her mother laughed and agreed and it was not mentioned again. \nThe mall the theatre was at was a massive complex of stores and restaurants. An ode to the commerce gods. A venerable playground dedicated to consumerism and capitalism. You wanted something? This mall supposedly had that very store within its walls. Kody had read somewhere that it was one of the biggest within the country, and spending any amount of time there it was easy to see.\nTheir plan was to start on one side of the sprawling complex and make their way over to the opposite where the movie theatres were. This was easily a 10-15 min walk on its own. Factor in all the other furs, them stopping at shops, etc. It would easily eat into their time before the movie and they would probably make it to their screen with minutes to spare.\nOnce dropped off by Peppers mother they began their journey across the mall. The two slowly picked their way through the crowd and kept their eyes out for their favorite or else an interesting shop to investigate. Or, perhaps stop at the many vendors kiosks that were spread throughout the mall. \nPepper invariably wanted to go into all of those new age shops that sold things like “healing stones”. Or some sort of ointment of dubious origins perhaps. Other shops just had hippy vibes and just sold new age music or talismans. \nKody, after a particularly eccentric shop poked some fun at her Snow Leopard friend by asking if she was going to buy some “snake oil” too. Pepper however popped off with telling her that she was looking for a talisman for “ease of birth”. Even it if was a joke she still felt a little stung by it.\nNot wanting to argue however she just became silent. After a bit Pepper did apologize and they agreed to not talk about it. After a while Kody found herself stop and looking into a particular store. Inside was all things babies. Strollers, cribs, walkers, high chairs. All of it, thinking to herself is she could afford any of those things.\n“You know… we came here to get your mind OFF of this right?” Peppers voice sounds in her ear.\n“Y-Yeah. Sorry Pep.” Kody sighs, looking away and starting to walk away.\n“You know…. My mom had a point. Have you spoke with a dietitian or doctors about what you should be doing?” Pepper asks curiously.\n“No. Not yet. That will be next week. Honestly not looking forward to it.” Kody replies as quietly as she can in the crowd.\nBoth girls move off to the side so they can better chat and simply fur watch. By now Kody was starting to feel a little winded. They found a mostly silent corner and sat down together on a bench.\n“SO… why are you worried?” Pepper asks after a moment.\n“I just… I don’t know. It’s just not felt… real you know? The first moment it really stuck was when the docs did a test themselves on me and it came out positive.”\n“Oh, well I just want to you know that I don’t blame you one bit about this. Your still my friend.” Pepper states firmly.\nKody can only smile. It was a pretty corny thing to say. But it meant a whole lot to her all the same. Pepper knowing her well enough just gives her a big hug and they both share a giggle. While they sat there that Kody freezes as she looks up and spots one of the last furs she expected to see in a while. \nThe tall male Cougar was hard to miss with his all physic. At his side chattering away and tugging on his arm was Sierra, his daughter. She couldn’t make out what they were saying, but clearly Sierra wanted Theo to go to a certain location. She could almost hear Sierras excited chattering in her head.\nPart of Kody wanted to rush over to him, but another part of her held herself in place. A haze of confusion enters her mind as she tries to work out what exactly to do. Logically she probably ought to steer clear of him. Even if he wasn’t trying to use her, it would just be a good idea to not do anything that might implicate him. On the other paw… how would that implicate him? \nWhile she was having her internal argument, she had been watching him the whole time. Theo stops what he was doing and slowly looks around as if he had somehow sensed he had been being watched. The two’s eyes meet and the adult pumas’ eyes stretch open in surprise. \nSierra, who had not stopped tugging on his arm finally seemed to notice he was no longer walking. Turning to follow his gaze she spies Kody and Pepper and gasps and makes a bee line for them.\n“OHMYGOSH KODY! I haven’t seen you in forever!” The excitable cougar girl cries out giving Kody a big hug. “Oh! Are you going to introduce us?” She asks after finally letting go of her and looks to Pepper expectantly.\n“Oh, sorry. Yeah, this is my bestie. Known her since diapers.” She replies, glancing over at Theo who had by now made his way over to the three girls. \n“Ohh! Well nice to meet you, Pepper!” She purrs. \nKody makes a gesture to Pepper to keep Sierra occupied. Pepper nods and begins having a rather animated conversation with Sierra. Silently thanking her she stands up and moves over to another set of seats nearby and Theo follows her. Glancing around she tries to make herself look less like a girl he knocked up and a child he simply knew.\n“Hello Kody. How are you?” He asks calmly.\n“Things have been, complicated.” Is all she can really say noticing the look of concern on his face. “Just have to get used to all the new attention on me I mean. Mom took away all of my electronics and stuff. This is the first time I’ve been allowed to go out alone.” \n“Ah, well your mother is just doing what she things is right.” He points out like an adult.\n“Yeah. A lot of good that’s done.” She says pointedly. Theo shifts uncomfortably at this. She can tell he has many questions for her but clearly didn’t think this was the place to ask them.\n“So. Has anyone said there will or may be any complications?” He asks in a purposefully vague way.\n“Not that I know of. I’ll know for sure next week though.” She replies.\n“What do your parents think? What do they want to do?” He asks next, his eyes intent on her.\n“…I don’t know. I know I want to keep him or her though.” She replies firmly, giving him a challenging glare. Theo however looked a bit relieved by her answer.\n“Ok. Has anyone asked you about who?” He asks, leaving out the end.\n“Yes, of course they have.” She sighs. “And no, I have not told anyone.”\n“Not even your close friends?” He asks, looking pointedly at Pepper who was looking a bit overwhelmed by the chatty feline in front of her.\n“After this encounter she will probably guess the truth. But I trust her completely. She won’t rat me out.” Kody replies forcefully.\nShe could tell he didn’t look especially happy but didn’t push the issue. Instead, he just sighed and nodded.\n“Will you be able to visit Sierra any time soon?” He asks casually, glancing over at his daughter who continued to chat Pepper’s ear off.\n“Well, if I can visit Pepper like this then maybe. But I feel like the only reason she let me visit with her is because we’ve all known each other this entire time. I’ll see if she’s ok with it.” Kody answers, blushing a bit, knowing this was likely a ploy to get her alone. “Well, if you can. Contact me through Sierra…. Actually, better yet, you should let your mother do that huh?” He says with a chuckle.\n“Uhm yeah. I’ll do that.” Kody replies. \n“Well, until then. Sierra, do you still want to go get ice cream?” He suddenly raises his voice for Sierra to hear.\n“Huh? OH YEAH! Let’s go!” She chirps, leaving a haggard looking Pepper behind.\n“Well, you girls enjoy your evening.” He says, careful to not ignore Pepper. And with that he and Sierra disappeared into the crowd.\nKody sighs as she walks up to Pepper who had a look of immense relieve on her face. Once her friend gets closer, she inevitably asks her the question she was most worried she’d ask.\n“So… was that him?”\n“Yeah… that was him.” Kody sighs with a nod. \n“I see he has a daughter.” Pepper comments, clearly disapproving. “Does he do anything to her too?” She asks pointedly.\n“She WISHES.” Kody chuckles earning a bewildered look from Pepper.\n“What do you mean by that?” Pepper asks.\n“Oh uhm… Sierra has a huge crush on him. He isn’t really her biological father.” Kody points out, feeling kind of silly saying that, trying to make it sound as ok as she could.\n“So, he has a thing for cubs I see…” Pepper replies, looking more and more disapproving. \n“Look, it’s not like that.” Kody snaps. “Sierra has been barking up that tree for a LONG time. If he had ever actually done it with her, she would have told me.” She finishes in an exasperated sigh.\n“I still fail to see how this is supposed to make me feel ok…” Pepper points out. “It sounds like it’s not that healthy of relationship. And he exercised those “demons” onto you.”\nKody bristled at this. She knew Pepper wasn’t exactly wrong but it wasn’t as cut and dry as that either.\n“Pepper, I understand that you are only concerned. But trust me, that’s not what happened.” Kody replies trying to keep herself from causing a scene. Pepper herself looked annoyed and was about to say something in reply before Kody held her paw up to stop her.\n“Look… this isn’t the place to discuss this. Were here to relax right? Not stress over things.”\n“…fine, but later on we really should discuss it.” Pepper replies after a moment of silence.\nKody sighs with relief and the two resume their exploration of the massive mall. Luckily Pepper didn’t seem to dwell on what happened earlier and they fell back into their chatting together like normal. If all went well, maybe Pepper would not remember they were supposed to discuss it all when they got home for the night.\nNot wanting to run into Theo again Kody made sure they avoided where she had heard him mention to Sierra. Luckily the rest of the exploration was uneventful and they found their way to the movies without any other hick-ups. The movie was a fantasy adaptation of a book both girls liked to read. It was a fun distraction and Kody honestly left feeling a lot better than she had in the last few weeks.\nIt wasn’t until after getting back home that Pepper put a wrench into that by bringing up their discussion from before. Both girls were freshly washed and were laying on Pepper’s bed. Her mother had just poked her head in and said she and her father were going to bed and they could stay up but be quiet. \n“Ok, so spill it Kody. FINE!” Kody growls.\n“Kody… I’m just worried about you. And what you told me REALLY doesn’t sound very healthy…” the Snow Leopard points out.\n“SIGH. Ok ok. So… Sierra was adopted by Theo, her dad. So, they are not biological family…. But all of this isn’t going to fix the problem!” Kody points out defensively.\n“Kody. I KNOW that. But you can’t genuinely tell me this and expect me to side with you, can you? You’re not stupid, you KNOW why this is happening.” Pepper points out.\n“You sound like A-… my therapist.” Kody replies, nearly slipping up and saying Pepper’s Aunts name.\n“You’re seeing a therapist?” Pepper asks with surprise.\n“Yeah, mom’s idea. Not mine.”\n“Kody…” Pepper says, getting closer and grabbing her paws looking her in the eyes. “You have GOT to talk to them.”\n“I AM.” She replies, trying to pull away from the intense stare from her friend.\n“No, if you can’t speak fully with me, then I KNOW you are not playing nice with a therapist.” Pepper says seriously. \nPepper knew her too well. They had been together since diapers and as dense as she was about certain things, she had an annoying knack of knowing exactly what was going on in her head or how she would act. Their tails lashed and were a bit puffed up. Kody was on the ropes and she hated it. But her love for Pepper was too much for her to lash out at he like she wanted to. Pepper for her part looked like she was silently challenging her to do it. Eventually their hackles lowered and Kody finally replies. \n“Pep… I… I just don’t WANT to. Ok? There are…. Things in my past even you don’t know about. And discussion this latest drama will only drag it back out into the open where I DON’T want to see or think about it.”\n“That’s ALL the more reason to then!” Pepper insists. “I am not trying to be mean but, maybe if you do explore it, you WON’T have this sort of thing happen again!”\nThe two girls sit in silence for a while. Pepper keeps looking intensely at Kody who does her best to avoid eye contact. Pepper’s parents and even brother Kyle noticed the rift between them. They did their best to get the girls to do things together like offer up snacks or whatever and invite the other to join them. How did you even know?” Kody asks irritably.\n“I was talking to my sister-in-law last night and she brought it up. We talk, you know. Good friends. Your mother knows too. We are all keeping an eye on you now. Closely. So you shouldn’t be that surprised.” Alex replies dryly. \n“Great, everyone is spying on me.” Kody grumbles.\n“Well, this time you and Pepper wore your feeling on your sleeves. So, it was pretty hard to miss you know.” Alex points out rolling her eyes. “But am I to assume you will be quiet about this too then?” \n“Probably.” Kody replies with an attitude.\n“Ok then. That’s fine. Just know that I don’t intend to just sit here and stare at you.” Alex points out.\n“Oh good, does that mean we are done here?” She asks in a fake happy voice. \n“Nope. It means I get to tell you what I think is going on with you.” Alex replies evenly.\n“And what does THAT mean?” Kody snips back raising an eyebrow.\n“Oh, you’ll see.” Alex replies cryptically as she pulls a large folder from a stack on her desk. She opens it up and thumbs through a few pages before apparently finding the page she was looking for.\n“Ok, so looking back into your records it appears that you have kept this stance up even when you were much younger. Having finally relived and explaining it all for the first time, she was just drained. I thought this was supposed to make you feel better. Sorry about that Kody.” Alex says after a moment and goes back to her seat. “A-anyways… I had pieced together your story from the snippets of info I got from the case and... well your own actions. Partially at least. But I just never realized how bad it really was. I’m sorry I forced you to relive that. But its important for you to realize one thing. This is NOT your fault. I can understand how you might feel, how you latched onto the good memories. And how HIS actions skewed your point of view. Like I said before. YOU. ARE. THE. VICTIM! Don’t EVER feel like this is your fault in any way!” \n“Not even the pregnancy?” Kody asks wryly.\n“Well… almost everything.” Alex replies sheepishly. “UGH. Here I put you through all that stress while your pregnant! I’m so sorry Kody!\n“Eh, its not like I haven’t already been super stressed as of late.” Kody shrugs.\n“I would subscribe you some meds to help sooth your nerves, but I’m afraid with you being pregnant that’s not the best of ideas…” Alex says apologetically.\n“Hey… could you… do me a favor?” Kody asks softly.\n“What’s that?” Alex asks suspiciously, catching her tone.\n“Could you… not tell my mom all of what I just told you?”\n“… Why not?” Alex asks after a moment.\n“Mom was a total wreck… after dad was arrested. She blamed herself for EVERYTHING. I remember hearing her cry… all the time those days. She never knew the full story, because well… HE wouldn’t have admitted to it. I just… I just don’t think her finding out the full story would do her any good. It would just crush her again. And now that I am suddenly pregnant… I’m afraid she would never be able to recover again.” As she spoke the color returned to her. I can understand your concern, but I think she might be stronger than you believe. I don’t think you should keep this from her. I’ll keep that I mind.” Kody replies with a sigh.\n“Well… this is the end of our session for today. I am very proud of you for finally being brave enough to get this off your chest. I know you might not feel like it now. But after you’ve rested, I’m sure you’ll feel a lot lighter.” Alex says kindly. “Our sessions after this should be much less… taxing at least. So, there’s that.”\n“Joy.” Is all Kody can say.\n“Well, for now go get your mother so I can give her an update. A vague update. Oh, and one more thing. Pepper really should know more about her best friend’s background. She is solid friend. I KNOW you girls speak and she knows about your shenanigans. She can tell her mom was not given any real details but looked much happier now that she was making headway. On the drive home she told her how proud she was of her. She also hinted that she wished she would share it with her one day but didn’t press the issue luckily.\nOnce home Kody went straight to her room to collapse onto her bed. She was exhausted and wanted nothing more than to sleep until this pregnancy was over… Maybe long enough for her unborn cub to achieve a college degree! Sinking gratefully into her covers she closed her eyes and allowed herself to slowly sink into unconsciousness. \n", "writing_bbcode_parsed": "Kody had really missed hanging out with Pepper.  The two of them had been inseparable since they were little tots.  Peppers shy demeanor and quiet nature always seemed to be able to sooth Kody even during the most stressful of times; and right now was no exception.  With all that had been going on lately this was exactly what she had been needing.
The girls fell right back into their normal groove the moment they woke up the next morning.  After Kody knocked out another good section of her homework they were taken out on an only-girls afternoon.  Pepper’s mother took them out for an early dinner then to the mall to hang out until a movie they had picked out before they had left.
Dinner was at her and Pep’s favorite restaurant, a local steakhouse.  Both girls ended ordering their favorite steak meals.  The only awkward of their meal came when Pepper’s mother gave her some healthy eating tips for when you were pregnant.  Luckily Pepper told her mother off for her, pointing out this was to help her decompress.  Her mother laughed and agreed and it was not mentioned again.  
The mall the theatre was at was a massive complex of stores and restaurants.  An ode to the commerce gods.  A venerable playground dedicated to consumerism and capitalism.  You wanted something?  This mall supposedly had that very store within its walls.  Kody had read somewhere that it was one of the biggest within the country, and spending any amount of time there it was easy to see.
Their plan was to start on one side of the sprawling complex and make their way over to the opposite where the movie theatres were.  This was easily a 10-15 min walk on its own.  Factor in all the other furs, them stopping at shops, etc.  It would easily eat into their time before the movie and they would probably make it to their screen with minutes to spare.
Once dropped off by Peppers mother they began their journey across the mall.  The two slowly picked their way through the crowd and kept their eyes out for their favorite or else an interesting shop to investigate.  Or, perhaps stop at the many vendors kiosks that were spread throughout the mall.  
Pepper invariably wanted to go into all of those new age shops that sold things like “healing stones”.  Or some sort of ointment of dubious origins perhaps.  Other shops just had hippy vibes and just sold new age music or talismans.  
Kody, after a particularly eccentric shop poked some fun at her Snow Leopard friend by asking if she was going to buy some “snake oil” too.  Pepper however popped off with telling her that she was looking for a talisman for “ease of birth”.  Even it if was a joke she still felt a little stung by it.
Not wanting to argue however she just became silent.  After a bit Pepper did apologize and they agreed to not talk about it.  After a while Kody found herself stop and looking into a particular store.  Inside was all things babies.  Strollers, cribs, walkers, high chairs.  All of it, thinking to herself is she could afford any of those things.
“You know… we came here to get your mind OFF of this right?”  Peppers voice sounds in her ear.
“Y-Yeah.  Sorry Pep.”  Kody sighs, looking away and starting to walk away.
“You know…. My mom had a point.  Have you spoke with a dietitian or doctors about what you should be doing?”  Pepper asks curiously.
“No.  Not yet.  That will be next week.  Honestly not looking forward to it.”  Kody replies as quietly as she can in the crowd.
Both girls move off to the side so they can better chat and simply fur watch.  By now Kody was starting to feel a little winded.  They found a mostly silent corner and sat down together on a bench.
“SO… why are you worried?”  Pepper asks after a moment.
“I just… I don’t know.  It’s just not felt… real you know?  The first moment it really stuck was when the docs did a test themselves on me and it came out positive.”
“Oh, well I just want to you know that I don’t blame you one bit about this.  Your still my friend.”  Pepper states firmly.
Kody can only smile.  It was a pretty corny thing to say.  But it meant a whole lot to her all the same.  Pepper knowing her well enough just gives her a big hug and they both share a giggle.  While they sat there that Kody freezes as she looks up and spots one of the last furs she expected to see in a while.  
The tall male Cougar was hard to miss with his all physic.  At his side chattering away and tugging on his arm was Sierra, his daughter.  She couldn’t make out what they were saying, but clearly Sierra wanted Theo to go to a certain location.  She could almost hear Sierras excited chattering in her head.
Part of Kody wanted to rush over to him, but another part of her held herself in place.  A haze of confusion enters her mind as she tries to work out what exactly to do.  Logically she probably ought to steer clear of him.  Even if he wasn’t trying to use her, it would just be a good idea to not do anything that might implicate him.  On the other paw… how would that implicate him?
While she was having her internal argument, she had been watching him the whole time.  Theo stops what he was doing and slowly looks around as if he had somehow sensed he had been being watched.  The two’s eyes meet and the adult pumas’ eyes stretch open in surprise.  
Sierra, who had not stopped tugging on his arm finally seemed to notice he was no longer walking.  Turning to follow his gaze she spies Kody and Pepper and gasps and makes a bee line for them.
“OHMYGOSH KODY!  I haven’t seen you in forever!”  The excitable cougar girl cries out giving Kody a big hug.  “Oh!  Are you going to introduce us?”  She asks after finally letting go of her and looks to Pepper expectantly.
“Oh, sorry.  Yeah, this is my bestie.  Known her since diapers.”  She replies, glancing over at Theo who had by now made his way over to the three girls.  
“Ohh!  Well nice to meet you, Pepper!”  She purrs.  
Kody makes a gesture to Pepper to keep Sierra occupied.  Pepper nods and begins having a rather animated conversation with Sierra.  Silently thanking her she stands up and moves over to another set of seats nearby and Theo follows her.  Glancing around she tries to make herself look less like a girl he knocked up and a child he simply knew.
“Hello Kody.  How are you?”  He asks calmly.
“Things have been, complicated.”  Is all she can really say noticing the look of concern on his face.  “Just have to get used to all the new attention on me I mean.  Mom took away all of my electronics and stuff.  This is the first time I’ve been allowed to go out alone.”  
“Ah, well your mother is just doing what she things is right.”  He points out like an adult.
“Yeah.  A lot of good that’s done.”  She says pointedly.  Theo shifts uncomfortably at this.  She can tell he has many questions for her but clearly didn’t think this was the place to ask them.
“So.  Has anyone said there will or may be any complications?”  He asks in a purposefully vague way.
“Not that I know of.  I’ll know for sure next week though.”  She replies.
“What do your parents think?  What do they want to do?”  He asks next, his eyes intent on her.
“…I don’t know.  I know I want to keep him or her though.”  She replies firmly, giving him a challenging glare.  Theo however looked a bit relieved by her answer.
“Ok.  Has anyone asked you about who?” He asks, leaving out the end.
“Yes, of course they have.”  She sighs.  “And no, I have not told anyone.”
“Not even your close friends?”  He asks, looking pointedly at Pepper who was looking a bit overwhelmed by the chatty feline in front of her.
“After this encounter she will probably guess the truth.  But I trust her completely.  She won’t rat me out.”  Kody replies forcefully.
She could tell he didn’t look especially happy but didn’t push the issue.  Instead, he just sighed and nodded.
“Will you be able to visit Sierra any time soon?”  He asks casually, glancing over at his daughter who continued to chat Pepper’s ear off.
“Well, if I can visit Pepper like this then maybe.  But I feel like the only reason she let me visit with her is because we’ve all known each other this entire time.  I’ll see if she’s ok with it.”  Kody answers, blushing a bit, knowing this was likely a ploy to get her alone.   “Well, if you can.  Contact me through Sierra…. Actually, better yet, you should let your mother do that huh?”  He says with a chuckle.
“Uhm yeah.  I’ll do that.”  Kody replies.  
“Well, until then.  Sierra, do you still want to go get ice cream?”  He suddenly raises his voice for Sierra to hear.
“Huh?  OH YEAH!  Let’s go!”  She chirps, leaving a haggard looking Pepper behind.
“Well, you girls enjoy your evening.”  He says, careful to not ignore Pepper.  And with that he and Sierra disappeared into the crowd.
Kody sighs as she walks up to Pepper who had a look of immense relieve on her face.  Once her friend gets closer, she inevitably asks her the question she was most worried she’d ask.
“So… was that him?”
“Yeah… that was him.”  Kody sighs with a nod.  
“I see he has a daughter.”  Pepper comments, clearly disapproving.  “Does he do anything to her too?”  She asks pointedly.
“She WISHES.”  Kody chuckles earning a bewildered look from Pepper.
“What do you mean by that?”  Pepper asks.
“Oh uhm… Sierra has a huge crush on him. He isn’t really her biological father.”  Kody points out, feeling kind of silly saying that, trying to make it sound as ok as she could.
“So, he has a thing for cubs I see…”  Pepper replies, looking more and more disapproving.  
“Look, it’s not like that.”  Kody snaps.  “Sierra has been barking up that tree for a LONG time.  If he had ever actually done it with her, she would have told me.”  She finishes in an exasperated sigh.
“I still fail to see how this is supposed to make me feel ok…”  Pepper points out.  “It sounds like it’s not that healthy of relationship.  And he exercised those “demons” onto you.”
Kody bristled at this.  She knew Pepper wasn’t exactly wrong but it wasn’t as cut and dry as that either.
“Pepper, I understand that you are only concerned.  But trust me, that’s not what happened.”  Kody replies trying to keep herself from causing a scene.  Pepper herself looked annoyed and was about to say something in reply before Kody held her paw up to stop her.
“Look… this isn’t the place to discuss this.  Were here to relax right?  Not stress over things.”
“…fine, but later on we really should discuss it.”  Pepper replies after a moment of silence.
Kody sighs with relief and the two resume their exploration of the massive mall.  Luckily Pepper didn’t seem to dwell on what happened earlier and they fell back into their chatting together like normal.  If all went well, maybe Pepper would not remember they were supposed to discuss it all when they got home for the night.
Not wanting to run into Theo again Kody made sure they avoided where she had heard him mention to Sierra.  Luckily the rest of the exploration was uneventful and they found their way to the movies without any other hick-ups.  The movie was a fantasy adaptation of a book both girls liked to read.  It was a fun distraction and Kody honestly left feeling a lot better than she had in the last few weeks.
It wasn’t until after getting back home that Pepper put a wrench into that by bringing up their discussion from before.  Both girls were freshly washed and were laying on Pepper’s bed.  Her mother had just poked her head in and said she and her father were going to bed and they could stay up but be quiet.  
“Ok, so spill it Kody.  I want to hear this.”  Pepper says once they hear her mother walk away.
“Spill what?”  Kody asks playing dumb.
“Ugh.  About you, that guy and how his daughter wants him too!”  Pepper says rolling her eyes as her tail flicks with visible annoyance.  
“WHY do you wanna know so much?”  Kody asks, stalling.
“Because it involves you and feels like I should call the police or something.”  Pepper snaps.
“You wouldn’t….”  Kody growls.
“Then just TELL me!”  Pepper pleads.  “Help me understand!”
“Uuuugh!  FINE!”  Kody growls.
“Kody… I’m just worried about you.  And what you told me REALLY doesn’t sound very healthy…”  the Snow Leopard points out.
“SIGH.  Ok ok.  So…  Sierra was adopted by Theo, her dad.  So, they are not biological family….  And I KNOW that doesn’t exactly make it right but… its ok…ish?”  Kody half asks half says glancing over of Pepper.
“…You don’t really need me to answer that do you?”  Pepper replies raising an eyebrow.  
“UGH.  ANYWAYS.  She’s had it bad for him for a while.  And even when I’m over she does all these stupid lovey dovey and flat-out sexual things.  Honestly, it’s pretty pathetic and Theo ignored ALL of it.”  Kody explains, chuckling a bit as she recounts some of Sierra’s antics in her head.
“So… what changed then?”  Asks Pepper.
“Well… I had started noticing him glancing at us both while I was around them…  Secret glances and such.  I could also tell that, despite his stern telling offs of her, he was clearly turned on.”
“So basically, the very thing you seem to live for.”  Pepper sighs looking up at her ceiling.
“Whatever…. I like what I like, ok?”  she growls.  “ANYWAYS.  He would glance at us both, but me most of all.  I could tell he was getting more and more worn down by Sierra.  So… I kinda just went for it.”  
“Went for it?”  Pepper asks.
“Well…. I went over for Christmas last year.  You and your family were out of town.  Mom had to work… usual stuff.  Anyways, I had bought a sexy little outfit and had told her about it and suggested I was going to show it to Theo as a surprise.”  Kody giggled at this.
“Why is that so funny?”  Pepper asks wide eyed.
“Oh.  Sorry.  It’s just that I would say things like that to her to tease her.  She is very territorial of him so If I made so much as a pass at him, she would too.  So, it was a sort of game for me.”  Kody smile sheepishly.
“Oh my god Kody…”  Pepper moans into her paws.  “You’re such a brat.”
“A-any ways, after I told her that she couldn’t leave that well enough alone and so I told her I was bringing it.  Well, she bought her own and practically stripped in front of me after I arrived to show off her challenge.  It was too good to pass up so I just put my own on and started to poke more fun saying he would for sure choose me.  She ended up taking it so seriously she marched out of her room wearing it to prove he would.” Kody snickers.
From Peppers face Kody could tell she wasn’t as amused by this whole story as she was.  But she wasn’t contradicting her or giving her any signs, she thought she might be lying.  This both pleased and annoyed her.
“SIGH.  What did he do?”  She asks wearily.
“HEHE!  The poor guy was just stunned.  Deer in the headlights, Full body lockdown.  It was HILARIOUS!”  Kody cackles.  “The poor guy looked like he was on his LAST straw, he recovered remarkably fast but I didn’t miss the boner he got after getting a look of us!”  
“So, did he jump you after then?”  Ask Pepper in a way that said she didn’t think that was the case.
“Oh.  No.  Sierra demanded he choose was the cutest.  The doofus went down the easiest path and said we were both cute.  That did not sit well with her and she dragged me off in a huff.  I managed to escape from her and uhm… well I went looking for him.”  Kody finished meekly.
Pepper just sighs and rubs the bridge of her nose.  She opens her eyes looking at Kody in a way that said, “Go on.”
“Well, I found him downstairs and just gave him a little push… He was just too worn down…”  She finishes quickly, not really wanting to go into the details of how they were nearly caught JUST after he had nutted inside of her.
“Wait… that doesn’t make sense.  If that is when he got you pregnant…. Would you be farther along?”  She asks suspiciously.
“Oh… well I never said that’s when I got pregnant.”  Kody points out earning an annoyed glare.  “Whatever, if you MUST know I managed to go visit him again while she wasn’t there.”
“And HOW did you manage that?”  Pepper asks as if she didn’t want to know.
“Uh… just kinda “forgot” Sierra was out of town on a sleepover night.”  Kody mumbles.
“Kody…”  Pepper sighs, rubbing the bridge of her nose again.  “You really make it hard not to just outright snitch on.”
“What would THAT accomplish?”  asks Kody irritably.
“Ugh.  I don’t know?  Help keep you out of trouble?”  Pepper supplies.
“As if she hasn’t already been micro managing me as of late.”  Kody grouses.
“You act like you didn’t do anything to deserve that.”  Pepper replies rolling her eyes.
“L-look, I get it ok.  But all of this isn’t going to fix the problem!”  Kody points out defensively.
“Kody.  I KNOW that.  But you can’t genuinely tell me this and expect me to side with you, can you?  You’re not stupid, you KNOW why this is happening.”  Pepper points out.
“You sound like A-… my therapist.”  Kody replies, nearly slipping up and saying Pepper’s Aunts name.
“You’re seeing a therapist?” Pepper asks with surprise.
“Yeah, mom’s idea.  Not mine.”
“Kody…”  Pepper says, getting closer and grabbing her paws looking her in the eyes. “You have GOT to talk to them.”
“I AM.”  She replies, trying to pull away from the intense stare from her friend.
“No, if you can’t speak fully with me, then I KNOW you are not playing nice with a therapist.”  Pepper says seriously.  
Pepper knew her too well.  They had been together since diapers and as dense as she was about certain things, she had an annoying knack of knowing exactly what was going on in her head or how she would act.  But you didn’t need to be a rocket scientist to come to the conclusion she did.
“I do NOT need to see anyone.”  Kody replies defiantly.  “I’ve gotten to this age without one and I STILL don’t need one.”
“Dakota!  YOU.  ARE. PREGNANT.  Don’t give me that, “You don’t need one.” BS because if that was true you wouldn’t be in the situation.”  Pepper snaps.
Both girls glared at each other, their hands no longer clasped together.  Their tails lashed and were a bit puffed up.  Kody was on the ropes and she hated it.  But her love for Pepper was too much for her to lash out at he like she wanted to.  Pepper for her part looked like she was silently challenging her to do it.  Eventually their hackles lowered and Kody finally replies.
“Pep… I… I just don’t WANT to.  Ok?  There are…. Things in my past even you don’t know about.  And discussion this latest drama will only drag it back out into the open where I DON’T want to see or think about it.”
“That’s ALL the more reason to then!”  Pepper insists.  “I am not trying to be mean but, maybe if you do explore it, you WON’T have this sort of thing happen again!”
The two girls sit in silence for a while.  Pepper keeps looking intensely at Kody who does her best to avoid eye contact.  After what seems all night Kody finally breaks the silence.
“I just don’t think I can do that.”  She says quietly.
“Dakota, please, for yourself only, just try to open up.”  Pepper mews, giving her a hug before rolling over to sleep leaving so many things unsaid between them.
The following day the two girls did their own thing, keeping their distance.  Pepper’s parents and even brother Kyle noticed the rift between them.  They did their best to get the girls to do things together like offer up snacks or whatever and invite the other to join them.  In order to get them off their backs, they did hang out together but still didn’t talk that much.
Luckily that night Kody’s mother showed up to pick her up so she didn’t need to deal with another awkward night. Turns out she had an appointment to go to that Monday with Alex again.  Kody felt annoyed that she hadn’t even been given a full week to prepare or deal with this next assault on her personage.  It did show her however that Alex wasn’t bluffing when she said she would be keeping up her pressure on Dakota.  
The following day Kody found herself in Alex’s office.  As she sat there, she thought about what Pepper had said.  She honestly didn’t feel like she needed to discuss those things with Alex.  She had dealt with those issue years ago.  What good would going through all those problems again do??
She was so lost in thought that when Alex came into the room and shut the door she didn’t notice.  It wasn’t until she sat down across from her that she noticed her with a jump.  Alex gave her a bemused look as she cleared her throat.
“Good morning, Dakota.  You mind telling me what happened to you and Pepper last night?”  Alex asks without so much as a, “How are you doing?”.
“Nothing.”  Kody answers automatically.
“I see.  So, you just out of the blue wanted nothing to do with your oldest best friend in the world.”  Alex replies raising an eyebrow.
“Why are you asking about this anyways?  How did you even know?”  Kody asks irritably.
“I was talking to my sister-in-law last night and she brought it up.  We talk, you know.  Good friends.  Your mother knows too.  We are all keeping an eye on you now.  Closely.  So you shouldn’t be that surprised.”  Alex replies dryly.  
“Great, everyone is spying on me.”  Kody grumbles.
“Well, this time you and Pepper wore your feeling on your sleeves.  So, it was pretty hard to miss you know.”  Alex points out rolling her eyes.  “But am I to assume you will be quiet about this too then?”  
“Probably.”  Kody replies with an attitude.
“Ok then.  That’s fine.  Just know that I don’t intend to just sit here and stare at you.”  Alex points out.
“Oh good, does that mean we are done here?”  She asks in a fake happy voice.  
“Nope.  It means I get to tell you what I think is going on with you.”  Alex replies evenly.
“And what does THAT mean?”  Kody snips back raising an eyebrow.
“Oh, you’ll see.”  Alex replies cryptically as she pulls a large folder from a stack on her desk.  She opens it up and thumbs through a few pages before apparently finding the page she was looking for.
“Ok, so looking back into your records it appears that you have kept this stance up even when you were much younger.  The police and therapists couldn’t seem to get you to admit your father had done anything to you.  Even when asked directly asked if he touched you inappropriately you would just say that, “Daddy was playing.”  Or, “He never did anything bad.”  Even when presented with evidence and being TOLD what would be considered bad you never once admitted to any abuse.”
As Alex spoke, she never once spoke to Kody who had tensed up.  Her tone was never accusatory or questioning.  It was as if she was just reading off an interesting article she had found.  Kody kept her mouth shut and tried to not listen as Alex continued to state her observations about thing’s she had done her best not to think about.
“Sadly, this sort of thing is not unheard of.  When someone is in an abusive relationship, they often convince themselves they really are to blame.  The mind is both amazing and terrible.  But, usually after years of being away from said abuse they reconcile that it really was abuse.  Strange that you haven’t yet.”  It was here she looked up at Kody.  She felt a tremor of indignation go through her.
“WHO says I don’t agree or think I was abused??”  She snaps at Alex.
“So, you DO think he abused you then?”  Alex asks calmly.
“OBVIOUSLY!”
“Did you think so back then?”  Alex asks her in her same calm voice.
“I-I don’t know what I thought back then!”  Kody growls, retreating again.
“I see.  Well either way it’s a bit strange that after escaping said abuse you went looking for adults, isn’t it?  Given how you reacted that one time you ran into an old buddy of his why would you keep actively looking?”  Alex again stops and looks at Kody, clearly making it a question now instead of a comment.
Kody was annoyed and wanted to deny that but knew how dumb she would look if she did.  Was that her goal?  Was she TRYING to goad her into exploding again?  She instead stared back at Alex, unwilling to fall for the bait.
“If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you miss him and want him back.  For what reasons though I wonder.”  Alex continues soon after not getting a response.
“I DO NOT WANT TO SEE HIM AGAIN!”  Kody snaps, unable to hold herself back this time.  The nerve of the idea pissing her off royally.
“No?  It just seems to me like you are searching for some sort of closure or recreation of your time with him.  The bulk of the guys you seemed to really go for in your streams were married guys with girls.  You seemed to especially enjoy being told you were way cuter than their own daughter.”  Alex points out.
“I-I don’t know what you’re talking about.”  Kody snaps, feeling flustered and irritated.  She glances at the door as if thinking about running.
“DAKOTA.  I WATCHED YOU ALL THE TIME.  You don’t think I didn’t pay attention do you!?  And if you run out that door it won’t stop our next session from happening.”  Alex replies seriously.  
“That’s not…  It has n-nothing….!”
“I don’t believe you.  Why else would you go looking for men JUST LIKE your father?”  Alex snaps, adding the pressure.  
“BECAUSE I MISS HOW HE MADE ME FEEL AT FIRST!”  Kody finally burst out and broke down crying.  
Kody wasn’t paying attention to Alex anymore.  She was too busy trying to control herself now.  She honestly hadn’t given WHY she went after older men much thought.  It wasn’t so uncommon after all.  Considering all the girls her own age on LiveFur’s she had convinced herself this was totally normal.

“I’m sorry Kody.  But I had to push you.  I knew that unless I did you would keep hiding your real feelings.”  Alex sighs.  “Now, can you please elaborate by what you mean by that?”
Hiccupping a bit, Kody took a shuddering breath and started talking.  At first, she spoke quietly but it eventually grew in volume.  Her voice was a low monotone though and any emotion was gone from her voice.  
Her father had started grooming her when she was very young, or so she was told.  Some of her earliest memories was of her “daddy” waking her in the middle of the night by touching and rubbing her in strange places.  She always pretended to stay asleep though since she thought he might get angry if she was still awake.

After that he would come home more and more drunk.  Eventually never bothering to tell her he was bringing someone over.  Some times they would bother her, other times leave her alone.  He himself would only occasionally disturb her sleep but any joy she derived from it before was gone.  She could tell by now that this was not normal.  Not even when it was just him and no one else.  But since this was her norm, it never occurred to her to tell anyone until he was finally caught by her mother.
“Took me a couple more years to realize he just been grooming me.”  Kody continues in her monotone, her eyes fixed on the floor, her arms wrapped around herself.  “When the police came and wanted to talk to me, I was terrified I would be in trouble.  …but worst of all… I was afraid my dad was going to be taken away from me.  I held on to the belief for all those years he would change.  He would become that, caring, funny happy daddy I remembered.  Even when he DIDNT have his dick in me.”  She sniffs and wipes her nose off with a tissue.
“I guess…. I’m so fucked up now that… I just don’t feel loved unless I’m being fucked.  Older men, fathers especially… reminds me of that bond he and I had.  Somehow that translates over to sex only now.”  Here she gives a mirthless laugh that sounds more like a bark due to her sore throat.
“I’ve never told anyone any of this…  Not the police, not my mother…  Not even Pepper.  I wouldn’t want her to freak out.  She would never leave me alone again.  I just…. Filed it away in my head.  I just figured that if I don’t think about it, it can’t hurt me.  
I just… can’t hate him.  He’s my dad… I know what he did to me is inexcusable.  But I was just SO happy for all those years before he started bringing those assholes over.  I just can’t help but think… was what he did at first really so bad?”  
Here she finally looks up to see what Alex was doing.  Alex was looking at her with immeasurable sadness.  She could tell she wasn’t completely shocked, maybe her dad had confessed to things after all.  But she was plainly distressed but all the weight she had just unloaded onto her.
“Oh Kody…”  She sighs sadly.  “If only you had told us these things when he was first arrested.  He will be behind bars for a while yet but…. If you had told us this then he would NEVER get out of prison again.  I had… guessed some of what you told me but… oh Kody.”  
Here she drops her clipboard and just squeezes her.  Kody doesn’t move but doesn’t pull away either.  Having finally relived and explaining it all for the first time, she was just drained.  I thought this was supposed to make you feel better.  She thinks to herself as she waits for Alex to get it out of her system.
“Ahem!  Sorry about that Kody.”  Alex says after a moment and goes back to her seat.  “A-anyways…  I had pieced together your story from the snippets of info I got from the case and... well your own actions.  Partially at least.  But I just never realized how bad it really was.  I’m sorry I forced you to relive that.  But its important for you to realize one thing.  This is NOT your fault.  I can understand how you might feel, how you latched onto the good memories.  And how HIS actions skewed your point of view.  Like I said before.  YOU. ARE. THE. VICTIM!  Don’t EVER feel like this is your fault in any way!”  
“Not even the pregnancy?”  Kody asks wryly.
“Well… almost everything.”  Alex replies sheepishly.  “UGH.  Here I put you through all that stress while your pregnant!  I’m so sorry Kody!
“Eh, its not like I haven’t already been super stressed as of late.”  Kody shrugs.
“I would subscribe you some meds to help sooth your nerves, but I’m afraid with you being pregnant that’s not the best of ideas…”  Alex says apologetically.
“Hey… could you… do me a favor?”  Kody asks softly.
“What’s that?”  Alex asks suspiciously, catching her tone.
“Could you… not tell my mom all of what I just told you?”
“… Why not?”  Alex asks after a moment.
“Mom was a total wreck… after dad was arrested.  She blamed herself for EVERYTHING.  I remember hearing her cry… all the time those days.  She never knew the full story, because well… HE wouldn’t have admitted to it.  I just… I just don’t think her finding out the full story would do her any good.  It would just crush her again.  And now that I am suddenly pregnant…  I’m afraid she would never be able to recover again.” As she spoke the color returned to her.  Her voice cracked with worry as she thought of how this might be too much for her mother to handle.
“Well… if you don’t want me to tell her then I am legally bound to keep silent.  I can understand your concern, but I think she might be stronger than you believe.  I don’t think you should keep this from her.  I think she should know so she can help you and better understand what is going on with you.”  Alex replies slowly.
“Thanks.  I’ll keep that I mind.”  Kody replies with a sigh.
“Well… this is the end of our session for today.  I am very proud of you for finally being brave enough to get this off your chest.  I know you might not feel like it now.  But after you’ve rested, I’m sure you’ll feel a lot lighter.”  Alex says kindly.  “Our sessions after this should be much less… taxing at least.  So, there’s that.”
“Joy.”  Is all Kody can say.
“Well, for now go get your mother so I can give her an update.  A vague update.  Oh, and one more thing.  Pepper really should know more about her best friend’s background.  She is solid friend.  I KNOW you girls speak and she knows about your shenanigans.  So, if you need anyone to confined it, she really should be a go to.  If not your own mother.”  Alex says with a hint.
Nodding Kody leaves the office and tells her mom she can go in.  She can tell her mom was not given any real details but looked much happier now that she was making headway.  On the drive home she told her how proud she was of her.  She also hinted that she wished she would share it with her one day but didn’t press the issue luckily.
Once home Kody went straight to her room to collapse onto her bed.  She was exhausted and wanted nothing more than to sleep until this pregnancy was over…  Maybe long enough for her unborn cub to achieve a college degree!  Sinking gratefully into her covers she closed her eyes and allowed herself to slowly sink into unconsciousness.
