Now firmly on her rump, she stared up at the offending cheetah, bangs disheveled, mis-matched eyes wide with a sudden surge of the kind of fear that prey feels when it's caught by a predator.\n\n     Stricken by the sight, Kitani could only let out a soft gasp. Crawling slowly upon all fours, she moved closer. The spark of affection in her eyes was the only thing that made Vera freeze in place and resist the temptation to flee.
