"writing": "Ripples in the Rain\nLooking for Rainbows\n\nCaleb’s breath was hot and heavy, his labored panting only answered by River under him moaning in desperation. He brushed the hair from his face to properly look his lover in those beautiful crystal pools of blue that he adored so dearly. Caleb listened to him whimper in deepest submissive pleasure, staring back at him, eyes half lidded. The bedroom was filled with the sounds of their lovemaking; the well-used bed creaking under them, the heated moans of their ecstasy, and the gentle, yet firm slaps of his groin meeting River’s entrance.\n\n“C-Caleb…! H-hnnnn!!” River gasped, Caleb stroking his cheek with his thumb.\n\n“Mmmf… Hahh… Let it out, Sunshine… Rrrrff…~” Caleb cooed, leaning down and biting the nape of River’s neck with a firm, loving pressure.\n\nCaleb bit down, making River gasp heatedly, followed by a low, whimpering mewl of utter submission as he began to rut faster and faster. Caleb growled into River’s neck, lifting the boy’s back off the bed ever so slightly. He could feel the pup’s erection throbbing against his stomach, matting their fur in adolescent precum. River was close, and so was he. His grip tightened on his young lover, bracing himself for climax.\n\nCaleb still couldn’t believe how tight River was. Even after seven years, the pom’s body was as small as most boys a few years younger, and his insides reflected the same tightness even after all the time the two had spent together. The vice like grip of River’s warm insides squeezed tighter and tighter as his orgasm drew closer. Faster and faster he bucked and rutted, his aching manhood slathering River’s insides with copious amounts pre. The wolf released his maw from the mewling boy’s neck, only to brush his lips with River’s own. The boy did not even hesitate, parting his lips as the wolf bared down, sealing their muzzles in a passionate kiss. \n\nRiver whimpered into Caleb’s mouth, their tongues meeting. He hugged onto Caleb’s shoulders and began to clench, dragging his fingers hard across the wolf’s upper back. Caleb groaned back into his mouth, the gentle scratching sending the wolf into a frenzy. His legs flailed in the air behind Caleb’s hips as they bucked wildly with an intense urge to breed. They cried out into each other’s maws, Caleb’s hips slamming down, burying every last inch of himself into his young lover, their bodies beginning to writhe and tremble against each other in their mutual climax. River twitched and trembled in Caleb’s arms, riding the intense waves of pleasure surging through his body, feeling the pulsing warmth of Caleb’s seed filling his rear. \n\nCaleb moaned, his paw wrapping around the River’s throbbing shaft, his only recently developed teenage seed spurting between their bodies. The boy whimpered as Caleb’s paw stroked him, tugging River’s foreskin firmly over his already sensitive glans. He growled teasingly against River’s maw, knowing full well he was overstimulating his hypersensitive boyhood and loving every second of his lover’s desperate mewls and writhing body.\n\nCaleb ground his groin against River’s rear, finding just the right angle to tease his prostate while hilted. Their lips finally parted, a single string of their mixed saliva bridged between their tongues. The boy finally lay back on the pillow, gasping for breath and whimpering under Caleb’s torturous teasing.\n\n“H-haaah..!! Nnnnn! Hah… H-hwaaah… That’s s-s-so… m-mean… Nnnnnf!!” River choked, spasming profusely.\n\n“Hehehe… Nnf... But you look so adorable when I do this~” Caleb grinned. He leaned in and gave River an affectionate peck, releasing his grip on the boy’s cum soaked and twitching cock. “Mmm… Look at the mess you made, Sunshine. Hard to believe my little pup is already shooting like a man~”\n\n“S-stooooooop!!” River whined, his cheeks reddening with embarrassment.\n\nCaleb snickered, enjoying the sight of his little pup being as adorable as ever. His softening cock finally slipped free of River’s hole, eliciting a soft gasp from him. He leaned in once more, placing another loving kiss to River’s lips.\n\n“Mmm… I love you, River.” Caleb cooed softly, stroking his cheek.\n\n“Hehe… I love you too, Cay. Even if your a total meanie~” River giggled, staring up into the gentle amber eyes above him.\n\n“Oh, come on… I’m not THAT mean~” Caleb grinned. He reached down and cupped River’s soft rump with a squeeze.\n\n“Eep!!” River jerked at the ticklish feeling of the groping and beginning to laugh. “Yuh-huh!”\n\n“Heheh~ Maybe a little.” The wolf smiled, rubbing his nose against River’s own. “Mmm, how bout we get cleaned up?”\n\nRiver nodded, a cheeky grin across his face. “Carry me there, Mister Wuff~?” He squeaked, making Caleb’s cheeks turn red.\n\n“A-a-ah!? Hey now, you can’t use that on me! How do you even remember that name!?” Caleb yelped, flustered.\n\n“Pleeeeeease? My legs are all shaky stiiiiill.” River whined cutely, knowing full well what he was doing.\n\n“Rrrf… You’re lucky you are still small enough to pick up, kiddo.” Caleb huffed, his cheeks burning. He got up and carefully scooped his lover into his arms and began making their way to the bathroom.\n\n“Yaaaaay~!” River said, throwing his arms around Caleb’s neck in the bridal carry.\n\n“Heh~ Still playing the innocent puppy.” Caleb chuckled. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOver the next hour the two cleaned up in the shower, most of their time spent cuddling under the warm water in the remnants of their afterglow. Eventually, the two cleaned up and made their way back to the bedroom to get dressed. It was close to time for River to get home; he had homework that needed doing, and his parents would scold him for spending his time out and about rather than studying. They wouldn’t be home for hours however, which was still plenty of time for River to take his time.\n\nCaleb sat on the edge of the bed, admiring River’s slender body. The pup he had fallen in love with all those years ago had grown into quite the attractive young man. He was still only fourteen, but with his genes he had the look of a boy of maybe ten, but with the tight and fit stature of a teenager. His little River was becoming quite the heartthrob, and he knew would grow into an even more attractive man someday. The wolf smiled, watching River dress himself. His blue, cotton shorts were slightly too small which only complimented the curve of his waist, with a yellow short sleeve shirt that had a hood and drawstrings. The shirt was a strange design but somehow River pulled it off. Maybe because it looked so similar to the yellow rain gear that he had worn when he was younger. \n\nCaleb pulled up his pants and moved behind River, the now fully dressed boy beginning to fix his hair in the mirror, letting his hands come around to the boy’s front in a hug.\n\n“Mmm…” Caleb sighed contently, nuzzling into River’s hair. The pup giggled and placed his hands atop Caleb’s over his belly, and nuzzled back against the wolf’s toned chest.\n\n“Gonna miss you, kiddo...” Caleb spoke softly.\n\n“Hehe, you say that every time, Cay.” River giggled quietly.\n\n“Well it’s true… I miss you every single day.”\n\n“Mm… I wish I could just stay with you…” River mumbled in a somber tone.\n\n“You know why we can’t, hun.” Caleb whispered, holding him tighter.\n\n“Yeah… I know. But I’m almost there, right? A couple more years and maybe I really could stay with you!” River smiled, tilting his head back to look up at Caleb.\n\n“Heheh… I’m looking forward to it~” Caleb smiled, pressing his nose against River’s for a moment before releasing him from the hug. “Go on now, kiddo. You got homework to do!” Caleb chuckled, playfully swatting River’s rump, making him yip.\n\n“Eek! Okay! Okay! I’m going!” River laughed as they made their way to the back door.\n\nRiver turned and waved goodbye as he stepped out into the backyard, the partly cloudy sky letting sunrays through to shine down on the playset he grew up with. Not a day had passed in the weeks he couldn’t spend with Caleb that the wolf had not spent maintaining the old jungle gym where they had met, even after River had outgrown regularly playing on it. River smiled, giving the backyard one last glance before heading through that familiar alleyway and made his way home.\n\n\n\n\n\nHours passed. River had begun diligently working on his homework as soon as he had gotten home, and finally, he could sit back in his chair and stretch out in accomplishment. His parents would be back any minute now he figured, but it was getting late and he was growing tired. At least it was only Saturday, and with his homework done, he knew he could go back and visit Caleb tomorrow. He laid down on his bed and pulled out his phone, flipping idly through photos and text messages. River pulled up his most recent text, which was from his mom and dad.\n\n“Hi, honey! Just letting you know we should be back home close to midnight. Make sure to get your homework done and don’t stay up too late! I don’t care if it is only Saturday! We love you so so sooo much! XOXO\"\n\nP.S. Let me know what you want for Sunday breakfast, honey~”\n\nRiver smiled softly and began to text back, knowing he was going to sleep soon.\n\n“You know your cinnamon toast is my favorite, mom! I can’t wait! Love you both too! <3”\n\nFinishing the text, River turned off the lights and drifted off to sleep, eagerly awaiting the morning.\n\nRiver found himself dreaming amidst a sea of memories. Scenes passed by in flashes, one by one. Times when his father would take him fishing down by the river. His father laughing as he joked to a much younger version of himself that they named him River because of all the times he had fallen in when a fish bigger than him yanked him in. Which now he knew was just his old man joking around with him, but when he was little, he believed it.\n\nAnother memory, this time of his mother. She was cradling him in her arms after he had come home with a black eye and was sobbing profusely. Somehow, even when he was in pain, whenever she started to hum and rock him he immediately felt better. And every time something bad happened she would make her special cinnamon toast, his favorite, even if it wasn’t Sunday yet. The dream faded, and was replaced by another… \n\nThis however didn’t seem like a memory, but more of a surreal scene where he found himself standing atop what seemed to be an endless expanse of shallow water. Its surface was a torrent of spraying drops as billions of raindrops shattered the water’s surface as far as the eye could see. He winced, looking up at the dark clouds that soaked his face in pelting rain. It was dark, and cold. But he closed his eyes and let the cool rain shower his face. For some reason, a warmth poured down his cheeks, followed by a burning sensation in his eyes. He shuddered, eyes snapping open. River reached his paws up to his face, but there seemed to be nothing, his hands simply wet with the rain. Something felt wrong, and his heart began to ache in his chest. He pinched his eyes shut, desperately wanting the feeling to go away. \n\nWaking up with a sudden gasp, he jerked upright in his bed, sitting in a cold sweat. River took a few deep breaths and looked around his bedroom. It was morning, and lit with a cold gray light. He could hear the patter of rain against his window, and started to relax. The sound of rain always comforted him, even when he was extremely upset. River picked up his phone. Half past ten, but no new messages. \n\nRiver decided it was time to get out of bed. Mom was probably about to start making breakfast. He shuffled his way down the stairs, rubbing his tired eyes. The living room and kitchen however, were empty. He made his way down the hall to his parent’s room and knocked.\n\n“Mom? Dad?” He called. There was no reply.\n\nHe cracked open the door and looked inside. There was nobody there. River felt a twinge of concern in his chest. He ran to the garage and threw open the door. The car was gone. \n\n“What…? Mom and Dad should have been home since last night.” River spoke to himself. “M-maybe they went to the store. Y-yeah, that’s probably it. Maybe we just didn’t have enough bread or something...”\n\nRiver took a deep breath, deciding to be patient and made his way back to the living room. He turned on the floor lamp and laid himself across the couch cushions, deciding to pass the time browsing on his phone. The first thing he did was send a text to his mom and dad.\n\n“Where are you? Did you go to the store? Let me know, okay?” \n\nSend. Now all he had to do was wait. \n\nHe browsed for ages, trying to keep his mind occupied. An hour passed, and still, no reply. River felt himself beginning to panic. Usually, his parents were quick to reply. Finally, he flipped through his contacts and went to Caleb’s number. \n\nThe dial tone played, then rang twice before Caleb picked up. River pressed his ear closer to hear him over the thunder and rain battering the windows. \n\n“Hm? Hey, Sunshine~ What’s up?” Caleb asked.\n\n“Cay… Um... Mom and Dad still aren’t home yet.” River said quietly, stifling a concerned whimper.\n\n“Wait. Weren’t they supposed to be home last night?”\n\n“Yeah. But they aren’t here. And they aren’t responding to my texts!”\n\nCaleb was quiet for a moment.\n\n“Are you sure they didn’t just go to the store, hun?”\n\n“I… I thought they might have… But it’s been hours now!” River whined, gradually losing his composure.\n\n“Woah woah woah! Hey now, calm down… Take a deep breath, buddy.”\n\nA flash of red and blue light against the windowsill caught River’s eye. He turned and peeked through the blinds to see a police car parked in the street in front of his house. River’s eyes went wide, an officer stepping out of the car and slowly walking up to the front door.\n\n“C-Caleb…! T-there’s a policeman outside!! He’s coming to the door!” River yelped, heart in his throat.\n\n“What!? Uh…! Fuck…! Hang on, stay right there! I’m coming over!” Caleb exclaimed, panicking, followed by the sound of rustling on the other end.\n\n“What!? But what if it’s about… you know? Us? ...Caleb!?” \n\nThere was silence on the other end, and the phone call ended.\n\nA knock on the front door caused River to jump in his seat. He felt his heartbeat in his ears, and hesitantly went to open the door. Hands shaking, he reached for the doorknob and gripped the handle, the entire world seeming to fall apart around him.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“God... Dammit..! Shit…!” Caleb cursed, struggling to get his coat on, barely even getting his arm through the first sleeve before bolting out the front door. He didn’t know what the police might be doing at River’s house, but something told him it wasn’t about his relationship with him, since they weren't kicking down his door instead. His hair was immediately matted by the torrent of rain. Caleb, in a dead sprint, didn’t notice, racing down the street toward River’s house. \n\nCaleb didn’t know what he would do or say when he got there, but something was wrong. He knew he had to be there for River, whatever the case. The rain was almost painful on his cheeks, each drop stinging his face, his chest heaving. Even though his body ached, he didn’t stop running. Soon enough, he could see the lights of the police car. Caleb’s eyes widened. He ran faster, his lungs burning as he finally made it to the open door.\n\n“River!!” Caleb shouted in the doorway, coughing and hacking stopping to catch his breath, dripping wet and sopping the entry of the house. \n\nThe officer stood there in front of River, who looked frozen in place, terrified. The officer didn’t even acknowledge Caleb even as he barged in the door, the man in uniform simply staring down at the paralyzed boy. Then Caleb noticed it. The policeman looked… sad. The only thing he heard next came from the man, in the most trembling voice he’d ever heard a law enforcement officer speak.\n\n“I’m sorry, son....”\n\nCaleb felt his heart sink watching River’s eyes, wide and in shock begin to glisten and tear up. The pup’s lip trembled, and tears started to streak down his cheeks.\n\n“N-no… No…” River whimpered under his breath, slumping down to his knees. “Y-you’re… you're lying…”\n\nThe officer lowered his gaze, tilting his hat over his eyes hiding his own tears at having to deliver the news he brought. He turned to Caleb.\n\n“Are you this boy’s caretaker?”\n\n“I… Uh…” Caleb was in shock, not knowing what was going on or how to respond. “...Y-yes?” He quickly blurted out.\n\n“The boy’s parents… There… was an accident. I’m sorry...” The officer spoke quietly, handing a slip of paper to Caleb. “My deepest condolences...” He choked, placing a hand on Caleb’s shoulder, walking past him and out the door.\n\nCaleb didn’t turn to look at the officer, the door closing behind him. His hands trembled, unfolding the letter and reading. Most of the letter felt like gibberish until he got to the part that explained everything, of a car accident in the middle of the night. One that ended with the vehicle having been broadsided by a semi and sent over the guardrail, resulting in the tragic loss of both of the people inside.\n\n\nThe letter fell from Caleb's fingers. His hands trembled looking to River, tears matting his cheeks, and seeing him staring off into nothingness. He couldn’t speak, throat unable to form words as he knelt down in front of River. He wrapped his arms around the trembling pup and pulled him into his arms. River whimpered, slowing growing louder and louder into Caleb’s shoulder. He brought a trembling paw to the back of River’s head, and held him tight.\n\n“I… I’m sorry…” Caleb choked through tears. \n\nAll at once River broke down in his arms, his hands gripping the back of Caleb’s soaked coat and whined, until he was bawling into his chest. River's cries of anguish echoed throughout the otherwise empty house as his young heart ripped in two. Caleb gritted his teeth and squeezed River tighter, sympathetic tears raining down on River’s shirt.\n\n“I’m so sorry, River…” Caleb repeated, burying his face into his hair, knowing that all he could do but let out his grief.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRiver barely spoke in the days leading up to the funeral. He had been living with Caleb ever since that day. Caleb had helped River collect and move his things in the meantime. He called River’s school, and let them know of his situation. They gave him as much time as he needed to grieve while giving him River’s homework to work on when he could. However, the pile of papers had gone nearly untouched. His silence was deafening, and even when he did speak, the words felt lifeless. Even his occasional hugs barely ever registered a response. The happy-go-lucky puppy he had known and loved seemed to be only a shadow of his former self. \n\nThe time finally came for them to head out to the funeral. Caleb grabbed River’s coat and held it out to him, and he took it in silence, not even lifting his head. Caleb took a deep breath, taking the keys from the wall hanger and opening the door leading out into the driveway where Caleb’s car awaited.\n\n“Time to go, hun.” Caleb whispered, rubbing River’s back comfortingly, leading him to the vehicle.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCaleb stood behind River, hands on his shoulders watching the caskets getting lowered into the ground. He bit his lip, feeling River tremble under his paws watching them disappear into the earth and to be buried. \n \n\nRiver crept forward, out of Caleb’s grip and towards the two fresh graves, Caleb following behind. Paws trembling, he stared at the cold tombstones that bared his parent’s names, teeth clenched and fighting back tears. Caleb watched River slump to his knees before the graves and break down, the first droplets of rain darkening the cold gravestones. River balled his hands into fists, gripping the wet grass. His tears fell to the blades below, joining the ever growing raindrops collecting upon them.\n\nCaleb knelt beside River and placed a hand on his back while he sobbed. As soon as his hand made contact, he yelled out in anguish, startling him. River scrambled to his feet and bolted, running away from his parents graves. Caleb’s eyes went wide in surprise, watching him sprint away. He immediately chased after him, heart in his throat. \n\n“River! Wait!!” Caleb shouted at River’s back, but he kept running.\n\nThe gentle rain fell like bullets against their faces, becoming a downpour. River’s eyes stung. He could barely see where he was going, but it didn’t matter. He couldn’t take it anymore. His heart hurt so much it felt like it might explode any second. He closed his eyes and pushed himself to go faster, ignoring Caleb. He couldn’t stop, not as long as he could feel the pain pouring down his face. Caleb managed to catch up and grab River’s wrist, bringing him to a halt.\n\n“Let me go! LET ME GO!!” River screamed, struggling in Caleb’s grasp, still pulling forward.\n\n“I’m not going to do that! River, please, just stop running!” Caleb shouted over the thunder and howling wind.\n\nRiver stopped, voicing a frustrated yell, turning and flailing desperately, but Caleb held him steady.\n\n“I know what you’re going through, River! Please, just stop!” Caleb pleaded.\n\n“YOU DON’T KNOW SHIT!” River screamed, lashing out, and throwing a blind punch, clocking Caleb across the jaw. \n\nCaleb stumbled back, head jarred to the side by his blow when he felt the sudden pain filling the side of his face. He let go of River’s arm. It wasn’t the pain that made him release his arm, but the fact that River had just punched him. \n\nRiver started to turn and take off once more, but stopped dead in his tracks once he realized what he had done, his seething anger turning to paralyzing remorse.\n\n“Caleb… I… I…” River started, his voice trembling.\n\n“River…” Caleb whispered, his sullen tone making River feel as if his heart was in his throat.\n\n“I’m… I’m sorry… I… I didn’t…-!” River whimpered, Caleb walking towards him. He yelped, flinched, and shut his eyes, expecting a punch any second. Instead, there was a warmth, Caleb’s arms wrapping around his trembling body, one hand pulling him in, the other on the back of his head and pressing him to his chest.\n\n“I know, River… I know all too well. When I lost my mother, I looked exactly like you do now. I was scared, and felt alone. I just wanted to run away from everything. And unfortunately… That’s what I did. I didn’t have anyone to turn to help me through all the pain I bottled up inside.” Caleb spoke softly, petting River’s soaked hair, and clutching him against his chest. “That is until I met you, River.”\n\nRiver trembled, ineffectually choking back tears. He raised his head and saw Caleb looking down. He was crying too, the tears falling to mix with his own.\n\n“When I first met you, I saw a bit of myself in you. But unlike me, you weren’t a lost cause yet. I felt that maybe, for once in my life, I could be there for someone else. And maybe I could keep you from going down the same road that I did... Hell, if I hadn’t met you... I may not have even been around today.” Caleb spoke softly, his voice trembling, he rubbed his thumb through River’s soaked cheek fur. \n\n“Don’t… Don’t say that…” River’s eyes welled up once more, the words struggling to escape his throat. \n\nRiver’s eyes burned, his trembling paws reaching up to clutch Caleb’s shirt. His knees buckled, and he fell to his knees, Caleb kneeling with him. His paw stroked River’s wet hair gently, tightening his hug.\n\n“I love you, River… and I will always be here for you. No matter what happens.” Caleb whispered, squeezing River to tightly to his chest. “Let it out, Sunshine… I’m here. Nobody else can see you…”\n\nRiver couldn’t hold it back any longer. He slumped into Caleb and let out a long and sorrowful cry into the wolf’s shirt. Caleb just held River there, letting him fall apart. River screamed up into the sky, the anguish that had flooded his heart escaping through his straining lungs, the icy downpour washing away the tears. Caleb sat patiently, gently rocking River back and forth. They were drenched and chilled to the bone, but neither cared, clinging to each other amidst the storm.\n\nEventually, River’s cries died down, and all he could do was shiver in Caleb’s arms, having screamed himself hoarse. Caleb swallowed, holding back the last of his own sobs. He brushed the hair from River’s face and leaned in. Holding River’s head by his chin, he touched his forehead to his.\n\n“I will never, ever let you suffer alone, River. I promise.” Caleb breathed, heartfelt. River nodded, wrapping his arms around Caleb’s neck.\n\nCaleb tucked his arms underneath River’s rear and stood, picking up his heartbroken love to carry him back to the car. \n\n“Let’s go home, Sunshine...”\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThat night, River went to bed early, physically and emotionally drained from the whole ordeal. He made his way to his and Caleb's shared bed alone. His throat was sore, eyes itched, and he needed a little more time to process the volatile feelings he had been bottling up over the last few weeks. He laid there, in the cool sheets, fighting the numbness creeping into his mind, body and soul. It was quiet in the room, but for the sounds of the still raging storm outside, to which he was thankful. He fell asleep, the thunder and rain pelting the window invading his dreams. \n\nRiver found himself underwater, struggling to hold his breath while he swam up to the surface. His lungs felt like they were going to burst. He swam faster and faster, until finally his head broke the water's surface, and he let out a desperate gasp. In spite of being adrift in what appeared to be an ocean, he found he could pull himself up, as if the water itself was a shallow pool with ground only inches beneath. \n\nHe climbed up, making it to his hands and knees taking in long heaving breaths of fresh air. He found himself staring down into the surface of the rippling water. It was the same scene as before, an endless, agitated sea amidst a storm of cascading rainfall. He struggled to his feet, peering into the gray nothingness surrounding him. It was so lonely, and cold. River felt tears stream down his cheeks, the solitude strangling him in its icy grip. They fell off his chin, joining the endless ripples breaking upon the waters surface.\n\nAs those first bitter tears joined the waters below, the torrential rains began to slow. The storm was fading. \n\nThe assault of droplets thinned, fading into a shower, then a drizzle, and finally to a gentle mist. River looked up, confused. The clouds parted above him, blue skies visible between them. Beams of light pierced through, the godrays illuminating the world around him. The light filtered through the misty spray left behind from the storm, a splash of ephemeral of color meeting his eyes in the form of a vibrant rainbow.\n\nHe stared at the spectrum in awe, holding out a hand toward it, just before he felt a hand gently pulling him backwards. River felt a warmth behind him, a pair of arms he recognized encircling his shoulders, pulling him into an embrace. His eyes wide, he reached up, trembling paws coming to rest over Caleb’s hands. Just then, two more pairs of hands came around him, ethereal and glistening, as if made of mist and light.\n\nRiver felt his heart jump in his chest. Turning around in the embrace, he saw Caleb standing there beside him, next to his mother and father, all smiling at him. He teared up with joy, but his parents reached out, each clasping one side of his face and wiped them away. A quivering breath escaped his lips seeing the forms of his mom and dad begin to fade. Before they disappeared completely, they pushed him into Caleb’s arms. He picked him up out of the endless sea. \n\nSuddenly, River found that was seven years old again, the age when he first met his loving partner. His lip quivered, turning into a soft smile, and he stared back into Caleb’s caring eyes. He leaned in, returning his firm embrace, burying his face into his neck. The last of the clouds in the sky dispersed, leaving a neverending crystal expanse of still blue water, their own being the only ripples left breaking mirror-like surface. River closed his eyes, content, and in the next instant, he was awake.\n\nHeart pounding, River found himself wrapped in Caleb’s strong arms. Caleb had passed out holding him in just the same way as he had been in the dream moments ago. His fingers trailed through the fur on Caleb’s chest, no longer trembling. River adjusted himself carefully, laying his head to listen to his lover’s gently beating heart. A shuddering breath escaped him and he nestled in, absorbed into Caleb’s warm fur while he drifted back into peaceful sleep, the continued rainstorm outside lulling him with its now gentle pattering against the glass.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen Caleb awoke that morning, it was to an empty bed. He bolted upright, looking around the empty room for signs of River. The sheets flew, Caleb jumping out of bed and running down the stairs to the living room, half panicked that River was nowhere to be seen. He bolted into the room to see River huddled on the couch, phone in his lap. Caleb let out a deep sigh of relief, his fears pushed aside. He walked over to sit beside him, and laid his arm around his shoulders. They sat in silence for a few minutes, Caleb’s thumb just stroking River’s shoulder.\n\n“I still can’t believe they’re gone…” River finally mumbled. \n\nCaleb’s ears laid back on his head looking at the phone screen which showed a picture of River’s mother and father, with a toddler aged River. They all looked so happy together. A distant memory of happier times. The wolf gently tugged River to his side in a one armed hug and placed one hand comfortingly on his leg.\n\n“I know, buddy…” Caleb whispered, kissing the top of his head. “But they wouldn’t want you to be sad forever, you know.”\n\n“Yeah…” \n\n“Mm… How about some breakfast, Sunshine? I can make anything you want.”\n\nRiver was quiet for a moment.“C-can you make some cinnamon toast?” He asked. “It’s… what mom always made to make me feel better…” \n\nCaleb gave River a somber smile and a gentle squeeze. \n\n“Of course, hun… I can’t promise it’ll be as good as hers, but I'll try just for you.” Caleb said softly, getting up and heading into the kitchen.\n\nBefore long, Caleb returned, placing a plate of eggs, sausage links, and pair of thick slices of cinnamon toast with a white, sugary cream sauce drizzled across them. River’s eyes widened, staring down at the plate.\n\n“It… It looks just like how Mom would make it…” River said, hands shaking.\n\n“Yeah, well… I may have passed by your house every now and then and um… looked in the windows while you were all at breakfast.” Caleb said scratching the back of his head with a nervous chuckle. “I don’t really know what your mom did exactly in hers, but hopefully it’s close, heheh…”\n\nRiver picked up the fork and started to pick at his breakfast. His fingers noticeably trembling, he swallowed the first few bites. Caleb winced, watching the teardrops begin to fall, and thought to remove the plate.\n\n“It tastes just like hers…” River whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. Caleb saw a smile cross River’s face, staring down into the plate, and digging back in. Caleb only smiled, sitting back down beside River with his own breakfast in hand. \n\nEating their meals together in silence, Caleb simply watched his love enjoy what small bit of the past he had saved, and made a mental note to make it whenever River would ask for it. He put an arm and his tail around River, gently rubbing his back while he ate.\n\nSoon enough, River finished, and the two reclined on the couch. Caleb gently stroked River’s chest, spending an hour cuddling in silence. For the first time in weeks, River felt a semblance of comfort laying in his lover’s arms. His thoughts drifted back to his dream of his parents standing with Caleb. Somehow, even though he could never bring his relationship with Caleb up to them for fear of what would happen, something about that dream made him feel like maybe they always knew. Or perhaps... they could see the both of them now, and how happy they were. Caleb was all he had left in this world, and regardless of what his mother and father may have potentially thought of their relationship before, he had a feeling that they were watching over the both of them now.\n\n“Think you are ready to go back to school, hun?” Caleb asked, breaking the silence at last, and, gently caressing River’s chest. “Your homework is really piling up.”\n\n“Mmm…” River contemplated the idea, staring at the half done work on the table.\n\n“You don’t have to go. Just when you are ready, okay?” Caleb said, nuzzling against River’s cheek from behind.\n\nRiver turned around in Caleb’s arms, laying face to face with the wolf he loved so dearly.\n\n“Just one more day, okay?” River spoke softly, his hand coming up to hold Caleb’s cheek just below his scarred eye. “I want just one good day, first… with you.”\n\nCaleb put his paw over River’s.\n\n“Of course, Sunshine…~” Caleb whispered under his breath, pulling River in close. He pressed his lips against his, sealing them into a slow and passionate kiss.\n\nAfter spending nearly the entire day in each other’s arms, Caleb carried River to their bed and laid him down, . However, even as Caleb lowered his lover, he would not let go of his shoulders.\n\n“W-woah…!” Caleb exclaimed nearly falling on top of River, landing on his hands and knees over him, and staring into those tearful pools of crystal blue once more. “Heheh… Hi, hun.”\n\n“Cay…?” River asked, his paws softly gripping Caleb’s shoulders.\n\n“Y-yeah, Sunshine..?” Caleb asked, worried, seeing River tearing up again.\n\n“Can we…?” River choked, his hand trailing down the wolf’s arm and squeezing his hand. “I… I w-want you to make me feel good, Caleb. Please? Even if it’s only for a moment?”\n\nCaleb stared down at River, begging for a momentary escape from the pain that gripped his heart. He smiled softly, leaning in and pressed his forehead against Rivers.\n\n“Of course, love. Just relax, and let me help you…” Caleb exhaled, wiping away a tear from River’s cheek.\n\nCaleb began gently kissing River’s neck, his large paws massaging his soft golden fur. \n\nRiver closed his eyes, laying his head back onto the pillow. He shivered, feeling Caleb kiss lower and lower over his chest. He gasped, Caleb’s lips teasing over a nipple and begin to suckle. Warmth filled his chest, heart starting to beat faster and faster. A quiet whine escaped him, giving Caleb momentary pause, before his strong arms tucked under the small of River’s back and lifted him to meet his muzzle once more.\n\nRiver gasped more heavily, Caleb licking at the tender nub in his muzzle. He felt his small body shivering beneath his fingertips, all the bottled up emotions, both good and bad, swirling through his mind and body. He noticed his soft member, twitching to erection against his stomach, foreskin pulled taut over his glans. Smiling, he closed his eyes and released the perky nipple, moving lower.Caleb listened to the pleasured, emotional sounds of his lover. \n\nRiver sighed, releasing his pent up feelings, Caleb nuzzling his erection. His fingers gripped his shaft, holding it upright, stroking the foreskin and massaging the pink glans beneath. \n\nWasting no time, Caleb wrapped his lips around River’s length, and sank down, eliciting a sharp, pleasured moan from River. He bobbed his head up and down along his lover’s twitching member, letting his hands roam, rubbing River’s sensitive belly and chest, pleasuring him. River’s heart pounded under his fingertips, chest rising and falling, consumed by pleasure.\n\nRiver bit his lip, rocking his hips into the warm wetness of Caleb’s muzzle with a breathy moan. Caleb smiled around the cock in his mouth, seeing his young love enjoying himself. Bobbing faster, he took in every inch of River’s member, kissing his pubic mound every time he reached the base of his cock. Caleb could feel him pulsing against his tongue, smooth tip dribbling sweet precum along his taste buds. River was close, but Caleb didn’t want his love’s pleasure to be short lived, and let River’s penis slip from his maw, leaving him panting hotly.\n\nRiver slumped into the pillow and opened his eyes, peering half lidded at Caleb as his muzzle disappeared below, and his hands hooked under his knees, pushing his bent legs up to his chest. River felt Caleb’s tongue under his tail, and he gasped, his tight ring relaxing against the familiar muscle teasing at his most intimate place. River’s toes curled and spread, muscles relaxing, exhaling hotly when the large tongue slipped inside him. He gripped the bedsheets, tussling the sheets, and spread his legs, giving Caleb easier access. \n\nCaleb murred, lubricating River’s walls, his own erection now dripping pre into their sheets, and enjoying the feeling of his tight muscles squeezing around his probing tongue. \n\n“H-hnnngh… C-Caleb… P-please..!” River pleaded desperately, shivering against the pillow, his lover’s tongue wiggling deeper to press against his prostate.\n\nPulling back, Caleb’s hot breath flowed over the glistening open ring. He readjusted their position, moving himself back onto the bed behind River, holding him back to chest, spooning him. He peered over his shoulder to see a tender smile. With a caring paw, he lifted his lover’s leg into the air. \n\nRiver swallowed and curled forward, tucking himself to better fit the new position. Within moments he could feel Caleb’s tip rubbing against his hole, ready to slip in, his lover’s arms encircling him in a tender embrace.\n\n“C-Caleb…” River said, breathily.\n\n“Shhh, sweetheart. Just relax, okay?” Caleb whispered sensually into River’s ear. The arm tucked under River reached around, wrapping around his shaft. River swallowed and nodded, laying his head down into the soft pillow with a wavering breath as his penis was stroked. \n\nCaleb nuzzled into River’s neck, lining his large member up with his lover’s lubricated hole and pushed. River tensed up, gasped, then relaxed, the tip pushing past the loosened ring. Caleb breathed hotly along River’s nape, groaning with pleasure, his manhood slipping inside the warm tightness of his love’s body for the first time in weeks. Caleb grunted, keeping his pace steady and slow. This time, he wanted to be gentle as possible with his little mate. He intended to make the most of it, just for him.\n\nCaleb worked every inch of his length in and out for what felt like an eternity. Time crept along at a pace as slow and gentle as their lovemaking, only when either got close to climax. Over an hour passed, filled with the sounds of love, and the gentle rhythm of rocking hips, grinding with such passionate love and precise care against River’s prostate, hand keeping pace with gentle, massaging strokes. The bedsheets below River glistened with a small puddle of his pre, leaking continuously from the stimulation. \n\nRiver shook with pleasure, filled with love for Caleb, the burning pain that held his heart a pale glow to the roaring passion for his mate. Their groins were sticky and slick with their lovemaking, but neither cared. Their union was all that mattered, the world having long since faded away and leaving only each other, isolated within the sounds of bliss and their wavering breaths, the beat of their hearts pounding as one. \n\nCaleb’s hips quickened, gently grinding every last inch of himself deeper and deeper into the furthest depths of his lover, though never once becoming forceful. \n\nRiver’s heated breathing matched the pace of Caleb’s passionate strokes and thrusts, growing ever faster with the passing minutes. The soft slapping of Caleb’s groin meeting River’s rear quickly became erratic in the heat of the approaching moment, then pushed deeply, savoring the sensation of each and every inch slid firmly into his love. Caleb moaned long and breathily, paw tugging River’s foreskin fully over his glans. River’s desperate moans joined with Caleb’s, echoing in unison, the pulsing heat of his lover’s seed gushing hotly into his body. Vision hazy, their bodies were lost to the throbbing waves of bliss of their mutual orgasm. Caleb panted hotly, every pulse sending his seed flooding deep into River in time with his own twitching boyhood, cum spurting over his hand and the precum soaked sheets.\n\nThey shook, exhausted, in each others arms, breath labored and luxuriating in the afterglow of their climax, basking in the heat of their partner’s body pressed against the other. River turned his head to look at Caleb, and was met with a deep, loving kiss, his words of love and gratitude silenced before they could be voiced. \n\nCaleb caressed River’s cheek. He pulled away from the kiss, leaving their muzzles touching, nose to nose, and they stared adoringly into each others eyes.\n\n“I’ll always be here for you, River. Forever and always. I promise...” Caleb whispered, touching his forehead to Rivers’, tenderly caressing his cheek.\n\n“I… I love you, Caleb. I love you so much…” River whispered back, placing his hand over Caleb’s on his cheek.\n\n“I love you too, Sunshine.” Caleb smiled.\n\nThe lovers laid their heads down together, losing consciousness in each other’s loving embrace. Sleep took them within moments, their union lasting long into the night. The mess of their lovemaking would have to wait. For now, they dreamt in each others arms in the most peaceful sleep they’d had in ages, the love they shared for one another stronger than ever before.\n\n\n\n\n\nIn the days that followed, River caught up with his work and returned to school. His grades even began to improve, as if there was a newfound determination in him to do better than before. However, life was still shaky for them both; River especially, the wound in his heart did not mend easily or quickly. Each time the storm overtook him, Caleb was always there, the umbrella that sheltered him from the storm inside. \n\n\n\nSeven years later…\n\n\n\nRiver stood before the graves of his parents, the clouds parting above him. The lingering drops of a passing storm shimmering in the god rays shining through the parting gray silhouettes above. Closing the umbrella, he shook off the water and set it down in the grass. Smiling, he stooped to place a bouquet of flowers atop each grave, and stepped back. He took a deep breath of the dewey, early spring morning air, a gentle wind blowing through his hair. He closed his eyes for only a moment, only opening them when he felt a warm paw take his and lace their fingers together.\n\n“Think they can see us down here, Sunshine?” Caleb smiled, giving a squeeze to the paw of the boy that he had watched grow into a man.\n\n“Yeah. I really think so~” River smiled looking up at the sky.\n\nCaleb followed his gaze, catching the sight before them. He stepped up behind River, their hands joining over River’s chest, their matching golden rings glinting in the sunlight.\n\n“I took care of him, Mom… Dad... Just like I promised. And I always will.” Caleb smiled, lacing his fingers with Rivers’ and resting his chin on his husband’s shoulder, nuzzling against his cheek lovingly.\n\n“Y’know... I think they heard you, hun.” River smiled as they watched forming amidst the residual mists…\n\n...the brightest, most beautiful rainbow they had ever seen, shining bright and vibrant between the final drops of falling rain.\n",

Okay! Okay! I&rsquo;m going!&rdquo; River laughed as they made their way to the back door.<br /><br />River turned and waved goodbye as he stepped out into the backyard, the partly cloudy sky letting sunrays through to shine down on the playset he grew up with.&nbsp;&nbsp; Not a day had passed in the weeks he couldn&rsquo;t spend with Caleb that the wolf had not spent maintaining the old jungle gym where they had met, even after River had outgrown regularly playing on it.&nbsp;&nbsp;River smiled, giving the backyard one last glance before heading through that familiar alleyway and made his way home.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Hours passed.&nbsp;&nbsp;River had begun diligently working on his homework as soon as he had gotten home, and finally, he could sit back in his chair and stretch out in accomplishment.&nbsp;&nbsp; His parents would be back any minute now he figured, but it was getting late and he was growing tired.&nbsp;&nbsp; At least it was only Saturday, and with his homework done, he knew he could go back and visit Caleb tomorrow.&nbsp;&nbsp; He laid down on his bed and pulled out his phone, flipping idly through photos and text messages.&nbsp;&nbsp;River pulled up his most recent text, which was from his mom and dad.<br /><br />&ldquo;<em>Hi, honey! Just letting you know we should be back home close to midnight.&nbsp;&nbsp;Make sure to get your homework done and don&rsquo;t stay up too late! I don&rsquo;t care if it is only Saturday! I can&rsquo;t wait! Love you both too! &lt;3&rdquo;<br /><br />Finishing the text, River turned off the lights and drifted off to sleep, eagerly awaiting the morning.<br /><br />River found himself dreaming amidst a sea of memories.&nbsp;&nbsp;Scenes passed by in flashes, one by one.&nbsp;&nbsp;Times when his father would take him fishing down by the river.&nbsp;&nbsp; His father laughing as he joked to a much younger version of himself that they named him River because of all the times he had fallen in when a fish bigger than him yanked him in.&nbsp;&nbsp;Which now he knew was just his old man joking around with him, but when he was little, he believed it.<br /><br />Another memory, this time of his mother.&nbsp;&nbsp; She was cradling him in her arms after he had come home with a black eye and was sobbing profusely.&nbsp;&nbsp;Somehow, even when he was in pain, whenever she started to hum and rock him he immediately felt better.&nbsp;&nbsp; And every time something bad happened she would make her special cinnamon toast, his favorite, even if it wasn&rsquo;t Sunday yet.&nbsp;&nbsp; The dream faded, and was replaced by another&hellip; <br /><br />This however didn&rsquo;t seem like a memory, but more of a surreal scene where he found himself standing atop what seemed to be an endless expanse of shallow water.&nbsp;&nbsp; Its surface was a torrent of spraying drops as billions of raindrops shattered the water&rsquo;s surface as far as the eye could see.&nbsp;&nbsp; He winced, looking up at the dark clouds that soaked his face in pelting rain.&nbsp;&nbsp; It was dark, and cold.&nbsp;&nbsp; But he closed his eyes and let the cool rain shower his face.&nbsp;&nbsp; For some reason, a warmth poured down his cheeks, followed by a burning sensation in his eyes.&nbsp;&nbsp; He shuddered, eyes snapping open.&nbsp;&nbsp;River reached his paws up to his face, but there seemed to be nothing, his hands simply wet with the rain.&nbsp;&nbsp;Something felt wrong, and his heart began to ache in his chest.&nbsp;&nbsp; He pinched his eyes shut, desperately wanting the feeling to go away.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />Waking up with a sudden gasp, he jerked upright in his bed, sitting in a cold sweat.&nbsp;&nbsp;River took a few deep breaths and looked around his bedroom.&nbsp;&nbsp; It was morning, and lit with a cold gray light.&nbsp;&nbsp; He could hear the patter of rain against his window, and started to relax.&nbsp;&nbsp; The sound of rain always comforted him, even when he was extremely upset.&nbsp;&nbsp;River picked up his phone.&nbsp;&nbsp;Half past ten, but no new messages.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />River decided it was time to get out of bed.&nbsp;&nbsp;Mom was probably about to start making breakfast.&nbsp;&nbsp; He shuffled his way down the stairs, rubbing his tired eyes.&nbsp;&nbsp; The living room and kitchen however, were empty.&nbsp;&nbsp; He made his way down the hall to his parent&rsquo;s room and knocked.<br /><br />&ldquo;Mom? Dad?&rdquo; He called.&nbsp;&nbsp; There was no reply.<br /><br />He cracked open the door and looked inside.&nbsp;&nbsp; There was nobody there.&nbsp;&nbsp;River felt a twinge of concern in his chest.&nbsp;&nbsp; He ran to the garage and threw open the door.&nbsp;&nbsp; The car was gone.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />&ldquo;What&hellip;? Mom and Dad should have been home since last night.&rdquo; River spoke to himself.&nbsp;&nbsp;&ldquo;M-maybe they went to the store.&nbsp;&nbsp;Y-yeah, that&rsquo;s probably it.&nbsp;&nbsp;Maybe we just didn&rsquo;t have enough bread or something...&rdquo;<br /><br />River took a deep breath, deciding to be patient and made his way back to the living room.&nbsp;&nbsp; He turned on the floor lamp and laid himself across the couch cushions, deciding to pass the time browsing on his phone.&nbsp;&nbsp; The first thing he did was send a text to his mom and dad.<br /><br />&ldquo;Where are you? Did you go to the store? Let me know, okay?&rdquo; <br /><br />Send.&nbsp;&nbsp;Now all he had to do was wait.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />He browsed for ages, trying to keep his mind occupied.&nbsp;&nbsp; An hour passed, and still, no reply.&nbsp;&nbsp;River felt himself beginning to panic.&nbsp;&nbsp;Usually, his parents were quick to reply.&nbsp;&nbsp; Finally, he flipped through his contacts and went to Caleb&rsquo;s number.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />The dial tone played, then rang twice before Caleb picked up.&nbsp;&nbsp;River pressed his ear closer to hear him over the thunder and rain battering the windows.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />&ldquo;Hm? Hey, Sunshine~ What&rsquo;s up?&rdquo; Caleb asked.<br /><br />&ldquo;Cay&hellip; Um...&nbsp;&nbsp;Mom and Dad still aren&rsquo;t home yet.&rdquo; River said quietly, stifling a concerned whimper.<br /><br />&ldquo;Wait.&nbsp;&nbsp;Weren&rsquo;t they supposed to be home last night?&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Yeah.&nbsp;&nbsp;But they aren&rsquo;t here.&nbsp;&nbsp; And they aren&rsquo;t responding to my texts!&rdquo;<br /><br />Caleb was quiet for a moment.<br /><br />&ldquo;Are you sure they didn&rsquo;t just go to the store, hun?&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;I&hellip; I thought they might have&hellip; But it&rsquo;s been hours now!&rdquo; River whined, gradually losing his composure.<br /><br />&ldquo;Woah woah woah! Hey now, calm down&hellip; Take a deep breath, buddy.&rdquo;<br /><br />A flash of red and blue light against the windowsill caught River&rsquo;s eye.&nbsp;&nbsp; He turned and peeked through the blinds to see a police car parked in the street in front of his house.&nbsp;&nbsp;River&rsquo;s eyes went wide, an officer stepping out of the car and slowly walking up to the front door.<br /><br />&ldquo;C-Caleb&hellip;! T-there&rsquo;s a policeman outside!! He&rsquo;s coming to the door!&rdquo; River yelped, heart in his throat.<br /><br />&ldquo;What!? Uh&hellip;! Fuck&hellip;! Hang on, stay right there! I&rsquo;m coming over!&rdquo; Caleb exclaimed, panicking, followed by the sound of rustling on the other end.<br /><br />&ldquo;What!? But what if it&rsquo;s about&hellip; you know? Us? ...Caleb!?&rdquo; <br /><br />There was silence on the other end, and the phone call ended.<br /><br />A knock on the front door caused River to jump in his seat.&nbsp;&nbsp; He felt his heartbeat in his ears, and hesitantly went to open the door.&nbsp;&nbsp;Hands shaking, he reached for the doorknob and gripped the handle, the entire world seeming to fall apart around him.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />&ldquo;God...&nbsp;&nbsp;Dammit..! Shit&hellip;!&rdquo; Caleb cursed, struggling to get his coat on, barely even getting his arm through the first sleeve before bolting out the front door.&nbsp;&nbsp; He didn&rsquo;t know what the police might be doing at River&rsquo;s house, but something told him it wasn&rsquo;t about his relationship with him, since they weren&#039;t kicking down his door instead.&nbsp;&nbsp; His hair was immediately matted by the torrent of rain.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb, in a dead sprint, didn&rsquo;t notice, racing down the street toward River&rsquo;s house.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />Caleb didn&rsquo;t know what he would do or say when he got there, but something was wrong.&nbsp;&nbsp; He knew he had to be there for River, whatever the case.&nbsp;&nbsp; The rain was almost painful on his cheeks, each drop stinging his face, his chest heaving.&nbsp;&nbsp;Even though his body ached, he didn&rsquo;t stop running.&nbsp;&nbsp;Soon enough, he could see the lights of the police car.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb&rsquo;s eyes widened.&nbsp;&nbsp; He ran faster, his lungs burning as he finally made it to the open door.<br /><br />&ldquo;River!!&rdquo; Caleb shouted in the doorway, coughing and hacking stopping to catch his breath, dripping wet and sopping the entry of the house.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />The officer stood there in front of River, who looked frozen in place, terrified.&nbsp;&nbsp; The officer didn&rsquo;t even acknowledge Caleb even as he barged in the door, the man in uniform simply staring down at the paralyzed boy.&nbsp;&nbsp; Then Caleb noticed it.&nbsp;&nbsp; The policeman looked&hellip; sad.&nbsp;&nbsp; The only thing he heard next came from the man, in the most trembling voice he&rsquo;d ever heard a law enforcement officer speak.<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m sorry, son....&rdquo;<br /><br />Caleb felt his heart sink watching River&rsquo;s eyes, wide and in shock begin to glisten and tear up.&nbsp;&nbsp; The pup&rsquo;s lip trembled, and tears started to streak down his cheeks.<br /><br />&ldquo;N-no&hellip; No&hellip;&rdquo; River whimpered under his breath, slumping down to his knees.&nbsp;&nbsp;&ldquo;Y-you&rsquo;re&hellip; you&#039;re lying&hellip;&rdquo;<br /><br />The officer lowered his gaze, tilting his hat over his eyes hiding his own tears at having to deliver the news he brought.&nbsp;&nbsp; He turned to Caleb.<br /><br />&ldquo;Are you this boy&rsquo;s caretaker?&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;I&hellip; Uh&hellip;&rdquo; Caleb was in shock, not knowing what was going on or how to respond.&nbsp;&nbsp;&ldquo;...Y-yes?&rdquo; He quickly blurted out.<br /><br />&ldquo;The boy&rsquo;s parents&hellip; There&hellip; was an accident.&nbsp;&nbsp;I&rsquo;m sorry...&rdquo; The officer spoke quietly, handing a slip of paper to Caleb.&nbsp;&nbsp;&ldquo; My deepest condolences...&rdquo; He choked, placing a hand on Caleb&rsquo;s shoulder, walking past him and out the door.<br /><br />Caleb didn&rsquo;t turn to look at the officer, the door closing behind him.&nbsp;&nbsp; His hands trembled, unfolding the letter and reading.&nbsp;&nbsp; Most of the letter felt like gibberish until he got to the part that explained everything, of a car accident in the middle of the night.&nbsp;&nbsp; One that ended with the vehicle having been broadsided by a semi and sent over the guardrail, resulting in the tragic loss of both of the people inside.<br /><br /><br />The letter fell from Caleb&#039;s fingers.&nbsp;&nbsp; His hands trembled looking to River, tears matting his cheeks, and seeing him staring off into nothingness.&nbsp;&nbsp; He couldn&rsquo;t speak, throat unable to form words as he knelt down in front of River.&nbsp;&nbsp; He wrapped his arms around the trembling pup and pulled him into his arms.&nbsp;&nbsp;River whimpered, slowing growing louder and louder into Caleb&rsquo;s shoulder.&nbsp;&nbsp; He brought a trembling paw to the back of River&rsquo;s head, and held him tight.<br /><br />&ldquo;I&hellip; I&rsquo;m sorry&hellip;&rdquo; Caleb choked through tears.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />All at once River broke down in his arms, his hands gripping the back of Caleb&rsquo;s soaked coat and whined, until he was bawling into his chest. River&#039;s cries of anguish echoed throughout the otherwise empty house as his young heart ripped in two.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb gritted his teeth and squeezed River tighter, sympathetic tears raining down on River&rsquo;s shirt.<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m so sorry, River&hellip;&rdquo; Caleb repeated, burying his face into his hair, knowing that all he could do but let out his grief.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />River barely spoke in the days leading up to the funeral.&nbsp;&nbsp; He had been living with Caleb ever since that day.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb had helped River collect and move his things in the meantime.&nbsp;&nbsp; He called River&rsquo;s school, and let them know of his situation.&nbsp;&nbsp; They gave him as much time as he needed to grieve while giving him River&rsquo;s homework to work on when he could.&nbsp;&nbsp; However, the pile of papers had gone nearly untouched.&nbsp;&nbsp; His silence was deafening, and even when he did speak, the words felt lifeless.&nbsp;&nbsp;Even his occasional hugs barely ever registered a response.&nbsp;&nbsp; The happy-go-lucky puppy he had known and loved seemed to be only a shadow of his former self.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />The time finally came for them to head out to the funeral.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb grabbed River&rsquo;s coat and held it out to him, and he took it in silence, not even lifting his head.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb took a deep breath, taking the keys from the wall hanger and opening the door leading out into the driveway where Caleb&rsquo;s car awaited.<br /><br />&ldquo;Time to go, hun.&rdquo; Caleb whispered, rubbing River&rsquo;s back comfortingly, leading him to the vehicle.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Caleb stood behind River, hands on his shoulders watching the caskets getting lowered into the ground.&nbsp;&nbsp; He bit his lip, feeling River tremble under his paws watching them disappear into the earth and to be buried.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br />&nbsp;<br /><br />River crept forward, out of Caleb&rsquo;s grip and towards the two fresh graves, Caleb following behind. Paws trembling, he stared at the cold tombstones that bared his parent&rsquo;s names, teeth clenched and fighting back tears. Caleb watched River slump to his knees before the graves and break down, the first droplets of rain darkening the cold gravestones.&nbsp;&nbsp;River balled his hands into fists, gripping the wet grass. His tears fell to the blades below, joining the ever growing raindrops collecting upon them.<br /><br />Caleb knelt beside River and placed a hand on his back while he sobbed.&nbsp;&nbsp; As soon as his hand made contact, he yelled out in anguish, startling him.&nbsp;&nbsp;River scrambled to his feet and bolted, running away from his parents graves. Caleb&rsquo;s eyes went wide in surprise, watching him sprint away. He immediately chased after him, heart in his throat.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />&ldquo;River! Wait!!&rdquo; Caleb shouted at River&rsquo;s back, but he kept running.<br /><br />The gentle rain fell like bullets against their faces, becoming a downpour.&nbsp;&nbsp;River&rsquo;s eyes stung. He could barely see where he was going, but it didn&rsquo;t matter.&nbsp;&nbsp; He couldn&rsquo;t take it anymore.&nbsp;&nbsp; His heart hurt so much it felt like it might explode any second.&nbsp;&nbsp; He closed his eyes and pushed himself to go faster, ignoring Caleb.&nbsp;&nbsp; He couldn&rsquo;t stop, not as long as he could feel the pain pouring down his face.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb managed to catch up and grab River&rsquo;s wrist, bringing him to a halt.<br /><br />&ldquo;Let me go! LET ME GO!!&rdquo; River screamed, struggling in Caleb&rsquo;s grasp, still pulling forward.<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m not going to do that! River, please, just stop running!&rdquo; Caleb shouted over the thunder and howling wind.<br /><br />River stopped, voicing a frustrated yell, turning and flailing desperately, but Caleb held him steady.<br /><br />&ldquo;I know what you&rsquo;re going through, River! Please, just stop!&rdquo; Caleb pleaded.<br /><br />&ldquo;YOU DON&rsquo;T KNOW SHIT!&rdquo; River screamed, lashing out, and throwing a blind punch, clocking Caleb across the jaw.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />Caleb stumbled back, head jarred to the side by his blow when he felt the sudden pain filling the side of his face. He let go of River&rsquo;s arm.&nbsp;&nbsp; It wasn&rsquo;t the pain that made him release his arm, but the fact that River had just punched him.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />River started to turn and take off once more, but stopped dead in his tracks once he realized what he had done, his seething anger turning to paralyzing remorse.<br /><br />&ldquo;Caleb&hellip; I&hellip; I&hellip;&rdquo; River started, his voice trembling.<br /><br />&ldquo;River&hellip;&rdquo; Caleb whispered, his sullen tone making River feel as if his heart was in his throat.<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m&hellip; I&rsquo;m sorry&hellip; I&hellip; I didn&rsquo;t&hellip;-!&rdquo; River whimpered, Caleb walking towards him.&nbsp;&nbsp; He yelped, flinched, and shut his eyes, expecting a punch any second.&nbsp;&nbsp;Instead, there was a warmth, Caleb&rsquo;s arms wrapping around his trembling body, one hand pulling him in, the other on the back of his head and pressing him to his chest.<br /><br />&ldquo;I know, River&hellip; I know all too well.&nbsp;&nbsp; When I lost my mother, I looked exactly like you do now.&nbsp;&nbsp;I was scared, and felt alone. I just wanted to run away from everything. And unfortunately&hellip; That&rsquo;s what I did.&nbsp;&nbsp;I didn&rsquo;t have anyone to turn to help me through all the pain I bottled up inside.&rdquo; Caleb spoke softly, petting River&rsquo;s soaked hair, and clutching him against his chest.&nbsp;&nbsp;&ldquo; That is until I met you, River.&rdquo;<br /><br />River trembled, ineffectually choking back tears. He raised his head and saw Caleb looking down. He was crying too, the tears falling to mix with his own.<br /><br />&ldquo;When I first met you, I saw a bit of myself in you.&nbsp;&nbsp; But unlike me, you weren&rsquo;t a lost cause yet.&nbsp;&nbsp;I felt that maybe, for once in my life, I could be there for someone else.&nbsp;&nbsp; And maybe I could keep you from going down the same road that I did...&nbsp;&nbsp;Hell, if I hadn&rsquo;t met you...&nbsp;&nbsp;I may not have even been around today.&rdquo; Caleb spoke softly, his voice trembling, he rubbed his thumb through River&rsquo;s soaked cheek fur.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />&ldquo;Don&rsquo;t&hellip; Don&rsquo;t say that&hellip;&rdquo; River&rsquo;s eyes welled up once more, the words struggling to escape his throat. <br /><br />River&rsquo;s eyes burned, his trembling paws reaching up to clutch Caleb&rsquo;s shirt.&nbsp;&nbsp; His knees buckled, and he fell to his knees, Caleb kneeling with him. His paw stroked River&rsquo;s wet hair gently, tightening his hug.<br /><br />&ldquo;I love you, River&hellip; and I will always be here for you. No matter what happens.&rdquo; Caleb whispered, squeezing River to tightly to his chest. &ldquo;Let it out, Sunshine&hellip; I&rsquo;m here.&nbsp;&nbsp;Nobody else can see you&hellip;&rdquo;<br /><br />River couldn&rsquo;t hold it back any longer. He slumped into Caleb and let out a long and sorrowful cry into the wolf&rsquo;s shirt.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb just held River there, letting him fall apart.&nbsp;&nbsp;River screamed up into the sky, the anguish that had flooded his heart escaping through his straining lungs, the icy downpour washing away the tears.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb sat patiently, gently rocking River back and forth.&nbsp;&nbsp; They were drenched and chilled to the bone, but neither cared, clinging to each other amidst the storm.<br /><br />Eventually, River&rsquo;s cries died down, and all he could do was shiver in Caleb&rsquo;s arms, having screamed himself hoarse.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb swallowed, holding back the last of his own sobs. He brushed the hair from River&rsquo;s face and leaned in. Holding River&rsquo;s head by his chin, he touched his forehead to his.<br /><br />&ldquo;I will never, ever let you suffer alone, River. I promise.&rdquo; Caleb breathed, heartfelt. River nodded, wrapping his arms around Caleb&rsquo;s neck.<br /><br />Caleb tucked his arms underneath River&rsquo;s rear and stood, picking up his heartbroken love to carry him back to the car.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />&ldquo;Let&rsquo;s go home, Sunshine...&rdquo;<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />That night, River went to bed early, physically and emotionally drained from the whole ordeal. He made his way to his and Caleb&#039;s shared bed alone.&nbsp;&nbsp; His throat was sore, eyes itched, and he needed a little more time to process the volatile feelings he had been bottling up over the last few weeks.&nbsp;&nbsp; He laid there, in the cool sheets, fighting the numbness creeping into his mind, body and soul.&nbsp;&nbsp; It was quiet in the room, but for the sounds of the still raging storm outside, to which he was thankful.&nbsp;&nbsp; He fell asleep, the thunder and rain pelting the window invading his dreams. <br /><br />River found himself underwater, struggling to hold his breath while he swam up to the surface.&nbsp;&nbsp; His lungs felt like they were going to burst.&nbsp;&nbsp; He swam faster and faster, until finally his head broke the water&#039;s surface, and he let out a desperate gasp.&nbsp;&nbsp; In spite of being adrift in what appeared to be an ocean, he found he could pull himself up, as if the water itself was a shallow pool with ground only inches beneath.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />He climbed up, making it to his hands and knees taking in long heaving breaths of&nbsp;&nbsp;fresh air. He found himself staring down into the surface of the rippling water.&nbsp;&nbsp; It was the same scene as before, an endless, agitated sea amidst a storm of cascading rainfall.&nbsp;&nbsp; He struggled to his feet, peering into the gray nothingness surrounding him.&nbsp;&nbsp; It was so lonely, and cold. River felt tears stream down his cheeks, the solitude strangling him in its icy grip.&nbsp;&nbsp; They fell off his chin, joining the endless ripples breaking upon the waters surface.<br /><br />As those first bitter tears joined the waters below, the torrential rains began to slow.&nbsp;&nbsp; The storm was fading. <br /><br />The assault of droplets thinned, fading into a shower, then a drizzle, and finally to a gentle mist.&nbsp;&nbsp;River looked up, confused.&nbsp;&nbsp; The clouds parted above him, blue skies visible between them.&nbsp;&nbsp;Beams of light pierced through, the godrays illuminating the world around him. The light filtered through the misty spray left behind from the storm, a splash of ephemeral of color meeting his eyes in the form of a vibrant rainbow.<br /><br />He stared at the spectrum in awe, holding out a hand toward it, just before he felt a hand gently pulling him backwards.&nbsp;&nbsp;River felt a warmth behind him, a pair of arms he recognized encircling his shoulders, pulling him into an embrace.&nbsp;&nbsp; His eyes wide, he reached up, trembling paws coming to rest over Caleb&rsquo;s hands.&nbsp;&nbsp;Just then, two more pairs of hands came around him, ethereal and glistening, as if made of mist and light.<br /><br />River felt his heart jump in his chest. Turning around in the embrace, he saw Caleb standing there beside him, next to his mother and father, all smiling at him.&nbsp;&nbsp; He teared up with joy, but his parents reached out, each clasping one side of his face and wiped them away.&nbsp;&nbsp;A quivering breath escaped his lips seeing the forms of his mom and dad begin to fade. Before they disappeared completely, they pushed him into Caleb&rsquo;s arms. He picked him up out of the endless sea.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />Suddenly, River found that was seven years old again, the age when he first met his loving partner.&nbsp;&nbsp; His lip quivered, turning into a soft smile, and he stared back into Caleb&rsquo;s caring eyes.&nbsp;&nbsp; He leaned in, returning his firm embrace, burying his face into his neck. The last of the clouds in the sky dispersed, leaving a neverending crystal expanse of still blue water, their own being the only ripples left breaking mirror-like surface.&nbsp;&nbsp;River closed his eyes, content, and in the next instant, he was awake.<br /><br />Heart pounding, River found himself wrapped in Caleb&rsquo;s strong arms. Caleb had passed out holding him in just the same way as he had been in the dream moments ago.&nbsp;&nbsp; His fingers trailed through the fur on Caleb&rsquo;s chest, no longer trembling.&nbsp;&nbsp;River adjusted himself carefully, laying his head to listen to his lover&rsquo;s gently beating heart.&nbsp;&nbsp;A shuddering breath escaped him and he nestled in, absorbed into Caleb&rsquo;s warm fur while he drifted back into peaceful sleep, the continued rainstorm outside lulling him with its now gentle pattering against the glass.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />When Caleb awoke that morning, it was to an empty bed.&nbsp;&nbsp; He bolted upright, looking around the empty room for signs of River.&nbsp;&nbsp; The sheets flew, Caleb jumping out of bed and running down the stairs to the living room, half panicked that River was nowhere to be seen. He bolted into the room to see River huddled on the couch, phone in his lap.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb let out a deep sigh of relief, his fears pushed aside. He walked over to sit beside him, and laid his arm around his shoulders.&nbsp;&nbsp; They sat in silence for a few minutes, Caleb&rsquo;s thumb just stroking River&rsquo;s shoulder.<br /><br />&ldquo;I still can&rsquo;t believe they&rsquo;re gone&hellip;&rdquo; River finally mumbled.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />Caleb&rsquo;s ears laid back on his head looking at the phone screen which showed a picture of River&rsquo;s mother and father, with a toddler aged River.&nbsp;&nbsp; They all looked so happy together. A distant memory of happier times.&nbsp;&nbsp; The wolf gently tugged River to his side in a one armed hug and placed one hand comfortingly on his leg.<br /><br />&ldquo;I know, buddy&hellip;&rdquo; Caleb whispered, kissing the top of his head.&nbsp;&nbsp;&ldquo; But they wouldn&rsquo;t want you to be sad forever, you know.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Yeah&hellip;&rdquo; <br /><br />&ldquo;Mm&hellip; How about some breakfast, Sunshine? I can make anything you want.&rdquo;<br /><br />River was quiet for a moment.&ldquo;C-can you make some cinnamon toast?&rdquo; He asked.&nbsp;&nbsp;&ldquo; It&rsquo;s&hellip; what mom always made to make me feel better&hellip;&rdquo; <br /><br />Caleb gave River a somber smile and a gentle squeeze.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />&ldquo;Of course, hun&hellip; I can&rsquo;t promise it&rsquo;ll be as good as hers, but I&#039;ll try just for you.&rdquo; Caleb said softly, getting up and heading into the kitchen.<br /><br />Before long, Caleb returned, placing a plate of eggs, sausage links, and pair of thick slices of cinnamon toast with a white, sugary cream sauce drizzled across them.&nbsp;&nbsp;River&rsquo;s eyes widened, staring down at the plate.<br /><br />&ldquo;It&hellip; It looks just like how Mom would make it&hellip;&rdquo; River said, hands shaking.<br /><br />&ldquo;Yeah, well&hellip; I may have passed by your house every now and then and um&hellip; looked in the windows while you were all at breakfast.&rdquo; Caleb said scratching the back of his head with a nervous chuckle.&nbsp;&nbsp;&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t really know what your mom did exactly in hers, but hopefully it&rsquo;s close, heheh&hellip;&rdquo;<br /><br />River picked up the fork and started to pick at his breakfast.&nbsp;&nbsp; His fingers noticeably trembling, he swallowed the first few bites.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb winced, watching the teardrops begin to fall, and thought to remove the plate.<br /><br />&ldquo;It tastes just like hers&hellip;&rdquo; River whispered, his voice cracking with emotion.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb saw a smile cross River&rsquo;s face, staring down into the plate, and digging back in. Caleb only smiled, sitting back down beside River with his own breakfast in hand. <br /><br />Eating their meals together in silence, Caleb simply watched his love enjoy what small bit of the past he had saved, and made a mental note to make it whenever River would ask for it.&nbsp;&nbsp; He put an arm and his tail around River, gently rubbing his back while he ate.<br /><br />Soon enough, River finished, and the two reclined on the couch. Caleb gently stroked River&rsquo;s chest, spending an hour cuddling in silence.&nbsp;&nbsp; For the first time in weeks, River felt a semblance of comfort laying in his lover&rsquo;s arms.&nbsp;&nbsp; His thoughts drifted back to his dream of his parents standing with Caleb.&nbsp;&nbsp;Somehow, even though he could never bring his relationship with Caleb up to them for fear of what would happen, something about that dream made him feel like maybe they always knew.&nbsp;&nbsp;Or perhaps...&nbsp;&nbsp;they could see the both of them now, and how happy they were.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb was all he had left in this world, and regardless of what his mother and father may have potentially thought of their relationship before, he had a feeling that they were watching over the both of them now.<br /><br />&ldquo;Think you are ready to go back to school, hun?&rdquo; Caleb asked, breaking the silence at last, and, gently caressing River&rsquo;s chest.&nbsp;&nbsp;&ldquo;Your homework is really piling up.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Mmm&hellip;&rdquo; River contemplated the idea, staring at the half done work on the table.<br /><br />&ldquo;You don&rsquo;t have to go. Just when you are ready, okay?&rdquo; Caleb said, nuzzling against River&rsquo;s cheek from behind.<br /><br />River turned around in Caleb&rsquo;s arms, laying face to face with the wolf he loved so dearly.<br /><br />&ldquo;Just one more day, okay?&rdquo; River spoke softly, his hand coming up to hold Caleb&rsquo;s cheek just below his scarred eye.&nbsp;&nbsp;&ldquo;I want just one good day, first&hellip; with you.&rdquo;<br /><br />Caleb put his paw over River&rsquo;s.<br /><br />&ldquo;Of course, Sunshine&hellip;~&rdquo; Caleb whispered under his breath, pulling River in close. He pressed his lips against his, sealing them into a slow and passionate kiss.<br /><br />After spending nearly the entire day in each other&rsquo;s arms, Caleb carried River to their bed and laid him down, .&nbsp;&nbsp; However, even as Caleb lowered his lover, he would not let go of his shoulders.<br /><br />&ldquo;W-woah&hellip;!&rdquo; Caleb exclaimed nearly falling on top of River, landing on his hands and knees over him, and staring into those tearful pools of crystal blue once more.&nbsp;&nbsp;&ldquo;Heheh&hellip; Hi, hun.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Cay&hellip;?&rdquo; River asked, his paws softly gripping Caleb&rsquo;s shoulders.<br /><br />&ldquo;Y-yeah, Sunshine..?&rdquo; Caleb asked, worried, seeing River tearing up again.<br /><br />&ldquo;Can we&hellip;?&rdquo; River choked, his hand trailing down the wolf&rsquo;s arm and squeezing his hand.&nbsp;&nbsp;&ldquo;I&hellip;&nbsp;&nbsp;I w-want you to make me feel good, Caleb.&nbsp;&nbsp; Please?&nbsp;&nbsp;Even if it&rsquo;s only for a moment?&rdquo;<br /><br />Caleb stared down at River, begging for a momentary escape from the pain that gripped his heart.&nbsp;&nbsp; He smiled softly, leaning in and pressed his forehead against Rivers.<br /><br />&ldquo;Of course, love.&nbsp;&nbsp;Just relax, and let me help you&hellip;&rdquo; Caleb exhaled, wiping away a tear from River&rsquo;s cheek.<br /><br />Caleb began gently kissing River&rsquo;s neck, his large paws massaging his soft golden fur.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />River closed his eyes, laying his head back onto the pillow.&nbsp;&nbsp; He shivered, feeling Caleb kiss lower and lower over his chest.&nbsp;&nbsp; He gasped, Caleb&rsquo;s lips teasing over a nipple and begin to suckle.&nbsp;&nbsp;Warmth filled his chest, heart starting to beat faster and faster.&nbsp;&nbsp;A quiet whine escaped him, giving Caleb momentary pause, before his strong arms tucked under the small of River&rsquo;s back and lifted him to meet his muzzle once more.<br /><br />River gasped more heavily, Caleb licking at the tender nub in his muzzle.&nbsp;&nbsp; He felt his small body shivering beneath his fingertips, all the bottled up emotions, both good and bad, swirling through his mind and body.&nbsp;&nbsp; He noticed his soft member, twitching to erection against his stomach, foreskin pulled taut over his glans.&nbsp;&nbsp;Smiling, he closed his eyes and released the perky nipple, moving lower.Caleb listened to the pleasured, emotional sounds of his&nbsp;&nbsp;lover. <br /><br />River sighed, releasing his pent up feelings, Caleb nuzzling his erection.&nbsp;&nbsp; His fingers gripped his shaft, holding it upright, stroking the foreskin and massaging the pink glans beneath.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />Wasting no time, Caleb wrapped his lips around River&rsquo;s length, and sank down, eliciting a sharp, pleasured moan from River.&nbsp;&nbsp; He bobbed his head up and down along his lover&rsquo;s twitching member, letting his hands roam, rubbing River&rsquo;s sensitive belly and chest, pleasuring him.&nbsp;&nbsp;River&rsquo;s heart pounded under his fingertips, chest rising and falling, consumed by pleasure.<br /><br />River bit his lip, rocking his hips into the warm wetness of Caleb&rsquo;s muzzle with a breathy moan.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb smiled around the cock in his mouth, seeing his young love enjoying himself.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bobbing faster, he took in every inch of River&rsquo;s member, kissing his pubic mound every time he reached the base of his cock.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb could feel him pulsing against his tongue, smooth tip dribbling sweet precum along his taste buds.&nbsp;&nbsp;River was close, but Caleb didn&rsquo;t want his love&rsquo;s pleasure to be short lived, and let River&rsquo;s penis slip from his maw, leaving him panting hotly.<br /><br />River slumped into the pillow and opened his eyes, peering half lidded at Caleb as his muzzle disappeared below, and his hands hooked under his knees, pushing his bent legs up to his chest.&nbsp;&nbsp;River felt Caleb&rsquo;s tongue under his tail, and he gasped, his tight ring relaxing against the familiar muscle teasing at his most intimate place.&nbsp;&nbsp;River&rsquo;s toes curled and spread, muscles relaxing, exhaling hotly when the large tongue slipped inside him.&nbsp;&nbsp; He gripped the bedsheets, tussling the sheets, and spread his legs, giving Caleb easier access.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />Caleb murred, lubricating River&rsquo;s walls, his own erection now dripping pre into their sheets, and enjoying the feeling of his tight muscles squeezing around his probing tongue.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />&ldquo;H-hnnngh&hellip; C-Caleb&hellip; P-please..!&rdquo; River pleaded desperately, shivering against the pillow, his lover&rsquo;s tongue wiggling deeper to press against his prostate.<br /><br />Pulling back, Caleb&rsquo;s hot breath flowed over the glistening open ring.&nbsp;&nbsp; He readjusted their position, moving himself back onto the bed behind River, holding him back to chest, spooning him.&nbsp;&nbsp; He peered over his shoulder to see a tender smile. With a caring paw, he lifted&nbsp;&nbsp;his lover&rsquo;s leg into the air.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />River swallowed and curled forward, tucking himself to better fit the new position.&nbsp;&nbsp;Within moments he could feel Caleb&rsquo;s tip rubbing against his hole, ready to slip in, his lover&rsquo;s arms encircling him in a tender embrace.<br /><br />&ldquo;C-Caleb&hellip;&rdquo; River said, breathily.<br /><br />&ldquo;Shhh, sweetheart.&nbsp;&nbsp;Just relax, okay?&rdquo; Caleb whispered sensually into River&rsquo;s ear. The arm tucked under River reached around, wrapping around his shaft. River swallowed and nodded, laying his head down into the soft pillow with a wavering breath as his penis was stroked.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />Caleb nuzzled into River&rsquo;s neck, lining his large member up with his lover&rsquo;s lubricated hole and pushed.&nbsp;&nbsp;River tensed up, gasped, then relaxed, the tip pushing past the loosened ring.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb breathed hotly along River&rsquo;s nape, groaning with pleasure, his manhood slipping inside the warm tightness of his love&rsquo;s body for the first time in weeks.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb grunted, keeping his pace steady and slow.&nbsp;&nbsp; This time, he wanted to be gentle as possible with his little mate.&nbsp;&nbsp; He intended to make the most of it, just for him.<br /><br />Caleb worked every inch of his length in and out for what felt like an eternity.&nbsp;&nbsp;Time crept along at a pace as slow and gentle as their lovemaking, only when&nbsp;&nbsp;either got close to climax.&nbsp;&nbsp;Over an hour passed, filled with the sounds of love, and the gentle rhythm of rocking hips, grinding with such passionate love and precise care against River&rsquo;s prostate, hand keeping pace with gentle, massaging strokes.&nbsp;&nbsp; The bedsheets below River glistened with a small puddle of his pre, leaking continuously from the stimulation.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />River shook with pleasure, filled with love for Caleb, the burning pain that held his heart a pale glow to the roaring passion for his mate.&nbsp;&nbsp;Their groins were sticky and slick with their lovemaking, but neither cared.&nbsp;&nbsp;Their union was all that mattered, the world having long since faded away and leaving only each other, isolated within the sounds of bliss and their wavering breaths, the beat of their hearts pounding as one. <br /><br />Caleb&rsquo;s hips quickened, gently grinding every last inch of himself deeper and deeper into the furthest depths of his lover, though never once becoming forceful.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />River&rsquo;s heated breathing matched the pace of Caleb&rsquo;s passionate strokes and thrusts, growing ever faster with the passing minutes.&nbsp;&nbsp; The soft slapping of Caleb&rsquo;s groin meeting River&rsquo;s rear quickly became erratic in the heat of the approaching moment, then pushed deeply, savoring the sensation of each and every inch slid firmly into his love.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb moaned long and breathily, paw tugging River&rsquo;s foreskin fully over his glans.&nbsp;&nbsp;River&rsquo;s desperate moans joined with Caleb&rsquo;s, echoing in unison, the pulsing heat of his lover&rsquo;s seed gushing hotly into his body.&nbsp;&nbsp;Vision hazy, their bodies were lost to the throbbing waves of bliss of their mutual orgasm.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caleb panted hotly, every pulse sending his seed flooding deep into River in time with his own twitching boyhood, cum spurting over his hand and the precum soaked sheets.<br /><br />They shook, exhausted, in each others arms, breath labored and luxuriating in the afterglow of their climax, basking in the heat of their partner&rsquo;s body pressed against the other.&nbsp;&nbsp;River turned his head to look at Caleb, and was&nbsp;&nbsp;met with a deep, loving kiss, his words of love and gratitude silenced before they could be voiced.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />Caleb caressed River&rsquo;s cheek. He pulled away from the kiss, leaving their muzzles touching, nose to nose, and they stared adoringly into each others eyes.<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;ll always be here for you, River.&nbsp;&nbsp;Forever and always.&nbsp;&nbsp;I promise...&rdquo; Caleb whispered, touching his forehead to Rivers&rsquo;, tenderly caressing his cheek.<br /><br />&ldquo;I&hellip; I love you, Caleb.&nbsp;&nbsp;I love you so much&hellip;&rdquo; River whispered back, placing his hand over Caleb&rsquo;s on his cheek.<br /><br />&ldquo;I love you too, Sunshine.&rdquo; Caleb smiled.<br /><br />The lovers laid their heads down together, losing consciousness in each other&rsquo;s loving embrace.&nbsp;&nbsp;Sleep took them within moments, their union lasting long into the night.&nbsp;&nbsp; The mess of their lovemaking would have to wait.&nbsp;&nbsp; For now, they dreamt in each others arms in the most peaceful sleep they&rsquo;d had in ages, the love they shared for one another stronger than ever before.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />In the days that followed, River caught up with his work and returned to school.&nbsp;&nbsp; His grades even began to improve, as if there was a newfound determination in him to do better than before.&nbsp;&nbsp; However, life was still shaky for them both; River especially, the wound in his heart did not mend easily or quickly.&nbsp;&nbsp; Each time the storm overtook him, Caleb was always there, the umbrella that sheltered him from the storm inside.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br /><br /><br /><em>Seven years later&hellip;</em><br /><br /><br /><br />River stood before the graves of his parents, the clouds parting above him.&nbsp;&nbsp; The lingering drops of a passing storm shimmering in the god rays shining through the parting gray silhouettes above.&nbsp;&nbsp;Closing the umbrella, he shook off the water and set it down in the grass.&nbsp;&nbsp;Smiling, he stooped to place a bouquet of flowers atop each grave, and stepped back.&nbsp;&nbsp; He took a deep breath of the dewey, early spring morning air, a gentle wind blowing through his hair.&nbsp;&nbsp; He closed his eyes for only a moment, only opening them when he felt a warm paw take his and lace their fingers together.<br /><br />&ldquo;Think they can see us down here, Sunshine?&rdquo; Caleb smiled, giving a squeeze to the paw of the boy that he had watched grow into a man.<br /><br />&ldquo;Yeah. I really think so~&rdquo; River smiled looking up at the sky.<br /><br />Caleb followed his gaze, catching the sight before them.&nbsp;&nbsp; He stepped up behind River, their hands joining over River&rsquo;s chest, their matching golden rings glinting in the sunlight.<br /><br />&ldquo;I took care of him, Mom&hellip; Dad...&nbsp;&nbsp;Just like I promised.&nbsp;&nbsp; And I always will.&rdquo; Caleb smiled, lacing his fingers with Rivers&rsquo; and resting his chin on his husband&rsquo;s shoulder, nuzzling against his cheek lovingly.<br /><br />&ldquo;Y&rsquo;know...&nbsp;&nbsp;I think they heard you, hun.&rdquo; River smiled as they watched forming amidst the residual mists&hellip;<br /><br />...the brightest, most beautiful rainbow they had ever seen, shining bright and vibrant between the final drops of falling rain.<br /></span>",
