Sure, it was just a week that Mako would be gone to some convention at the other side of the country, but thank goodness for technology! Perfect way for the two lover boys to keep in contact, be it via phones, laptops... you name it. Just too bad that despite the many calls and messages, Mako was absolutely horrible at answering any of them. A lot of the time taking an hour, two or even three to respond or call Duke back.
Not that the shark could fault his boyfriend for it, since he imagined the orca to be quite busy at this.... "mystery" convention. Most likely not hearing his phone ringing over the loud sounds, or unable to answer due to the crowds of people around him, tugging, pushing and pulling him around the convention center. A thought that made Duke glad he hadn't been able to join his boyfriend, not that he'd exactly been invited in the first place, but would have been unable to attend because of his job.
At least they had the evenings to themselves, sitting by their respective computers and having plenty of time to go over the past day, discuss their plans for the next and for Duke to try and figure out what this convention his boyfriend was attending, actually was. Work related? Something to do with his hobbies? Mako really hadn't told him much about it, other than mentioning meeting some "cool guys" there... all while seeming to be eyeing something up and down off screen.
Before Duke had a chance to ask about it however, his train of thought was interrupted by the convenient doorbell, forcing the shark to excuse himself for a minute to go and tell whoever was at the door, most likely a salesman of some kind, to take a hike.
He really must not have been gone for more than a minute, two at tops, yet he could not have anticipated the sight waiting to greet him upon returning to his computer.

Demanding to know the stranger's name, Duke clearly had never met Roy Koopa. The largest of all the koopalings, one that could put even his own, royal father into shame with his hulking frame. It was no wonder he barely paid mind to the squeaking coming over the speakers of the laptop, drowned out by the loud and sloppy "GLLLK! SLLRRRP! SCHHRRRP!" seeming to come somewhere from the background, all while the godlike koopa on the screen seemed far too pleased with... something.
By the time the large koopa did finally acknowledge the shark on the screen, it was clear from that cocky smirk on his face that he recognized Duke. So this was the "man" he'd heard so much about... the pin-dicked, sexually incapable loser of a man.
Not that Roy said it out loud, of course. Feigning complete ignorance, not just about the angry looking person on the screen, but also from the sounds that only seemed to keep picking up both in volume and speed. The large koopa merely shrugging off the disappearance of the shark's boyfriend, while reaching off screen to grab something heavy with a slimy, wet squelch just barely off camera.
This was about how their discussion continued, Duke trying to pry the whereabouts of his boyfriend out of the large koopa, who seemed far too smug for his own good... and how could he not? Here he was, basically mocking the dumbest cuck alive straight to his face from the other side of the country, while the man failed to realize that all those squelches, slurps and snorts were coming from way closer than the shark thought. From straight between the titanic legs of the koopa, where the fat-assed orca was currently busy huffing his brain rotten upon the most mind numbing ball funk he'd ever had the pleasure of smelling.
