"Big brother?" A young mawile looks down at the body of its elder sibling with confusion. "C'mon, get up." It shakes the unmoving other weakly. Unbeknownst to the young pokemon, a feline creature stalks up behind it, claws drenched in blood. It hovers over the small mon as they begin to shake their sibling with more panic. "This isn't funny! Please! Wake up! Wake up! WAKE UP!" "Don't worry," The feline raises a claw, poises to strike. "I will bring you to your brother." I bolt up in bed, eyes wide and heart racing. I quickly look around and see that my immediate surroundings seem to be a small home with two windows and pots full of berries and water. There's no other mawile nearby, and no strange felines either. I breathe a sigh of relief and lay back down. "It was just a dream." I clear my throat. "What's with my voice?" I crawl out of bed and weakly make my way to the pot of water. After a few delicious sips, I clear my throat and try again. "Testing. Testing. The quick black zorua jumps over the lazy rockruff." I smile down at the mawile reflected in the water. "Better." "Your awake!" Instinctively, I dash toward the direction of the voice, my fist already charging with power. "Woah!" A flash of blue darts out of view as I slam my Power-Up Punch into the doorway, breaking part of the wall off in the process. I don't waste anytime as I zero my focus in on the intruder, preparing to land a critical blow. What I now notice is a dewott, puts his paws up passively. "Relax! Relax! I'm not here to hurt you!" To verify this, he even throws his two scallop shells onto the ground then raises his paws back up. I visibly lax, but I'm still ready at any moment to spring into action if I need to. "I'm Dex! I didn't mean to scare you." "Yeah well... you did." I say with a huff. "I guess you could make it up to me, if you told me just where am I." The dewott finally drops his paws and casually places them on his hips. "This is my house! I saw you passed out on the side of the road and thought that I shouldn't just leave you there. So, I took you back to my place and treated your wounds." Wounds? I examine my body for any kind of bandage or scar but couldn't find a thing. "Oh, they healed a long time ago!" "How long have I been here?" He crosses his arm and stares at the ground in thought. "Um, about three or four moons, I think. It's been a while, and honestly, I never thought you'd wake up!" He laughs at the last part as he sits onto his bed. "Now it's your turn. Just who are you?" I'm about to answer, but for some reason, I draw a blank. I reach into my brain for a name, any name really, but I keep coming up with nothing. Why can't I remember? Could I have amnesia? That's so cliché! "Hello? Dex to mawile. Can you hear me?" "Yeah, I can hear you." I snap back. "I just can't remember." "Amnesia, huh? Isn't that a little... cliché?" I roll my eyes as he leans back, a smile flashing on his muzzle. "Well, I gotta call you by something?" While he thinks, I lean against a wall. What am I going to do? I've nowhere to go. I don't even know where I am... "Sir!" I nearly jump out of my skin as another pokemon, a herdier, charges into the room. "The Blinkers are back!" Dex's face turns stern. "So soon? This sucks. Spread the word! You know the drill! Everyone gets into position! Those who can't fight, lock them in their homes!" The herdier nods and darts out to do his duty. "Hey, I know you just woke up, but do ya think you can help us?" "I have no reason not to." He grins and dashes out of the house with my following close behind. Once outside, I'm greeted by tons of pokemon dashing around, shout and yelling. Doors are barricaded, paths are blocked, and the streets are bare within seconds. "This way!" Dex waves my closer. "They'll be coming through this entrance. They always do." From my view from the town entrance, I can see that the town is located on the side of a mountain a that most of the town consists of stairs that lead very far up. Down below, I can see an army of pokemon trudging toward us, seemingly dead of any drive or purpose. I look at our army and find that the amount is disturbingly small. Including Dex and myself, there are only ten or so of us compared to the hundred or so of them. "Don't worry, what they have in numbers, they lack in strength and coordination." He winks at me as he raises a paw. "Check this out. Ready!" He voices changes to a booming, commanding voice like a leader commanding an army. "Aim!" I look around to see dragon and fire types charging their power. "FIRE!" On command, everyone unleashes a bombardment of Fire Blasts and Draco Meteors. I even see a few Aura Spheres through into the mix. The approaching army doesn't even seem phased as tons of them go flying or smashed by falling meteors. I notice that some of them seem to vanish in thin air moments after the moves connect. "They're gone?!" "It's as if they blinked out of existence, huh? We don't just call them Blinkers just because it sounds cool." He turns to our "army" and resumes his commanding voice. "Alright folks, frontline is charging in! Artillery, stay back and... you know, provide artillery fire." I can hear a few chuckles. I figured mons would be more stressed, but they seem so relaxed. With a yell, everyone charges down the hill to meet with the quickly dwindling army. Already prepared with a Laser Focus, smash into a nidorino Blinker with a direct Power-Up Punch. Instantly, it vanishes, and I'm left quite surprised. Dex said they were weak, but I wasn't expecting an OHKO. With newfound confidence, I dash from Blinker to Blinker, smacking them with Power-Up Punches and Play Roughs, easily sweeping through the hoard. However, my smug victory streak is cut short when I miss a Punch against a luxray. The large feline easily sidesteps my attack and tackles me into a nearby bush. To my surprise, it hurts a lot less than I thought it would. Rather than follow up the attack, he pins me between his forelegs and starts nuzzling me? "Oh Arceus, I'm so glad you're okay, Lyn!" He looks me in the eye with a teary-eyed smile. "Everyone thought you were dead. We figured that you died from the wounds or had been found out and assassinated, but I knew there was no way they could take you out without you causing some kind of uproar." I stare at the luxray, completely speechless. I have no idea what he's talking about. Why would I be assassinated? Whose "everyone"? "I have to admit; your plan was a really big gamble. When you said, "Fang, I want you to turn me into a bloody, half dead pulp." My heart nearly shattered at the thought of hurting you. I'm so glad someone was nice enough to patch you up before you died. I never would have forgiven myself if you died out here." Tears seem to be streaming down his face now, staining his fur. "I'm so glad you're okay!" He taps his forehead to mine and just holds it there, softly sobbing. Kind of lost on what to do, I rub his cheek softly in attempt to comfort him. "There there... Fang? There's no need to cry. I'm completely fine. A dewott named Dex took care of me while I was out." "Dex!" His head jerks up, eyes still puffy. "He took you in? This makes things a hundred times easier! You can get closer to him a lot easier this way and you can get him to leak secrets about the Rebellion. You really are the best!" Without much warning, he plants a kiss right on my lips. My face immediately burns up and before I know it, its over and he's back to nuzzling me. "Unfortunately, I have to cut this reunion short... Head out and let them know you're okay. I'll stay here and sneak off when they're all gone. He gets off me and lets me slip out of the bush. As I stagger away with my face still alight, I hear a faint whisper from behind. "Good luck, love."
