I have read a bit  info about her and I have to say Its a wonderful story and yet a sad one as well. This is referring to both in RL and in the MLP Universe. She suffers from a stigmatism which prevents her from simply functions, unlike some of her other ponies. However, she tries her hardest to fit in. In RL, in the high of MLP's popularity; it seems that people are overly sensetive about Derpy's character. It seems the writers want to give some hope to anyone who can relate to Derpy's situation. While others feel they are mocking those with similar stigmatism. *sighed softly* I feel that is a silly assumption and the only way to know is to ask question but of course no one really does.
