it's damn annoying to say the least. "Dusty" is waiting for his big debut
but I'm stuck on the next pages. SO to break that artist / writer block I
decided to do some more sketches of the neat and fun places in DEADLAND.
This time around two pictures found in an "OCCU-1", a digital camera that fits in
the eye socket of a subject and allows them to record still AND video with sound simply
by looking at it. It's mentally controlled and very popular with the DL *DEADLAND* Tourist
crowd as it allows you to record hands free, mostly while running from whatever is chasing
you! The only draw back is it requires you to remove one or both of your eyes and users
complain that the depth of focus makes it very hard to navigate dangerous acid puddles and
the like. But for clean images and clear sound it can't be beat. :)
From this OCCU-1's memory we see the user was visiting one of the new and growing DEADLAND
group of attractions called Darwin's Dance, named because getting to them or being AT them automatically guarantees you a Darwin Award, 98% of which are awarded posthumously to next of kin.
This particular attraction is called simply Cold Lake, found deep in the region known as Little Antarctic. It's a strange and beautiful lake of raging liquid helium held in check by some of the most powerful magnetic fields in the galaxy that are, amazingly, found ONLY in the Cold Lakes region. To get as close as this photographer did means you MUST be in a Lvl 10 Cryosuit with magnetic dampers and can remain in the area a MAXIMUM of 5 min! But the REAL danger is NOT the liquid helium OR the powerful magnetic fields. It's the small incredibly endowed Ice Mouse who lives in Little Antarctic and is VERY VERY protective of his home. Snowy is EASILY the second most anti-social of Toxy's group and treats ANY invasion of his home as a personal threat and the ONLY measure of the punishment he dishes out is dependent on how he's feeling at that particular time. The person who took this picture fortunately caught Snowy in a good mood, *you can see he's obviously quite happy* so he and his party got away with only a severe case of frostbite ( assorted fingers toes and the like lost). Many many others have not been so lucky. The Military have put up numerous warning signs and such but because the area is one of the most popular and visited of all of DEADLAND's many strange beautiful and lethal Natural and Unnatural Wonders, it's place on Darwin's Dance playlist is assured for a long long time. :)
