It's traditional pen and ink which will be scanned and finished in ArtRage. But as you can see there's a slight problem with it. Part of the ink has smeared and in so doing lightened up some of the line work. This happens when the paper is too smooth or has a less than 100% rag content. Most ink from a bottle will work fine as it's made to dry quickly and adhere to the paper. But from time to time you get an ink that doesn't dry quick enough and even though it LOOKS dry it can still smear and smear badly, especially if you're erasing the pencil. This is what happened here. The ink was dry but it didn't hold to the paper and as a result when I tried to erase the pencil it not only erased the inked line but it smeared it all over the rest of the drawing. This is why you test ALL your inking devices you're going to use, be they traditional quill and bottle, ballpoint pen, gell, rolling ball, maker whatever on the paper you're going to use. Unfortunately I've used this paper before and I THOUGHT it was ok to use with the pen I chose so the only thing that could have happened, and this is a problem too, is that the blue pencil I used had a slick enough lead that it formed a barrier on the paper and kept the ink from holding. Graphite does this some time too especially if you put down a heavy enough line (using a 5B or softer) or a huge area.
When this happened I stopped and tried to fix the areas to make sure they COULD be repaired and also so I could figure out what to replace that pen with. This is why this second page is delayed a bit. Fortunately it CAN be fixed and it shouldn't cause any problems with the rest of the story going forward. I MIGHT however have to adjust some things and that may take a bit more time but don't worry...It WILL be done. (This is also why some commissions I wanted to finish got paused for a bit. I wanted to check my pens to make sure they weren't the main issue ( as in the manufacturer changed the ink formula as they do from time to time to "keep artists on their toes* by not telling them they did! :D :D ))
Conclusion:
ALWAYS check your materials BEFORE you start a project to make sure they're compatible!!
