And meanwhile, I didn't even invite mine because I thought this was really a 'girls-only' day. Great, huh?
Emma, flipping through a book under the shade, lifted her gaze with a slight smile.
—Does it bother you? If they're happy, let them be.
—Yeah, but couldn't they be happy without being attached at the hip? —Claire scoffed dramatically, crossing her arms—. I feel like a total third wheel here.
Emma arched a brow and grinned playfully.
—Well, you could always narrate what they're doing out loud, like it's a nature documentary.
Claire huffed, feigning offense, but ended up laughing.
Evelyn remained silent, shifting the sand between her fingers. Emma noticed and leaned slightly toward her.
—Are you okay?
—Y-yeah —Evelyn replied, though her voice sounded dull.
Suddenly, Kara jumped up, brushing the sand off her spotted fur.
—I'm going to get some ice for the drinks —she announced, shooting Oliver a mischievous look. He stood up without hesitation, leaving the group behind.
They exchanged a knowing smile before heading toward the rocks, disappearing from sight and leaving the others in brief silence.
—Well, that was suspicious —Claire said, raising an eyebrow—. Ice? Really? Who even needs ice when the drinks are still cold?
Time passed slowly. The sun gradually dipped lower, painting the sky in golden hues. Conversation died down bit by bit until Evelyn, looking uneasy, turned toward the rocks.
—They shouldn't be taking this long —she murmured, shifting in place nervously.
Emma shut her book and glanced toward the same direction.
—Maybe they got lost. I can go check.
—Don't worry, leave it to me —Claire cut in quickly, standing up—. They're probably just fooling around. Anyway, I'll go find them.
Claire walked across the beach, her feetpaws sinking into the damp sand, her tail flicking behind her in anticipation. As she approached the rocks, the sound of the waves grew louder, but she also heard something else. A faint murmur, interrupted by a stifled moan. Driven by curiosity, she crept between the rock formations until she found a spot where she could see without being seen.
And there they were.
Oliver lay on his back, head tilted back, his fur damp from the heat, chest rising and falling in ragged breaths. His shorts were discarded beside him, forgotten, while Kara, sitting next to him with the top of her bikini pulled up, exposing her breasts, moved her hand with a steady rhythm over his penis. Claire felt her face burn even hotter and quickly averted her gaze.
—It’s hot —she muttered, dodging the question. Clearing her throat, she quickly changed the topic—. If you’re getting ice, hurry up. It's getting late.
Turning on her heel, she headed back to the others, trying to steady her breathing. Her ears twitched slightly as she tried to suppress her lingering excitement. She dropped onto her towel and picked up her drink, taking a distracted sip, her tail resting lazily beside her.
—So? —Emma asked, not looking up from her book, flicking one of her own ears in mild curiosity—. Where are they?
Claire shrugged, feigning indifference, her tail giving a slight flick.
—They’ll be here soon. You know how they are.
Minutes later, Kara and Oliver finally returned, her tail swaying lazily as they approached the group. She carried a bag of ice in her hand and, without a word, opened it and dropped a few cubes into the drinks.
—Well, I guess this counts as "mission accomplished" —she joked, trying to sound casual as she raised her glass—. To a wonderful day.
The others did the same, raising their glasses cheerfully. Claire sipped her drink absentmindedly, still trying to normalize her breathing after what had happened. As she did, she noticed Evelyn had her gaze lowered, absentmindedly stirring her straw in her drink, her ears slightly flattened.
Claire narrowed her eyes slightly and, subtly, nudged Emma with her elbow, discreetly gesturing toward Evelyn. Emma caught the signal and, after a brief moment of hesitation, tilted her head and furrowed her brow, the tip of her tail giving a small flick.
—Evelyn, is something wrong? You’ve been quiet all day.
All eyes turned toward her, including Kara, whose ears perked slightly at the question. Evelyn shrank slightly, feeling the weight of their attention, her own tail curling slightly around her waist.
—Huh? Oh, no... nothing... I just feel a little tired —she murmured quickly, averting her gaze and rubbing her arms—. I didn’t sleep well last night.
Kara raised an eyebrow and looked at her with mild curiosity.
—If you’re not feeling well, we can leave.
—No, no... I’m fine, really —Evelyn assured with a weak smile—. I just need to rest a little.
Kara observed her for a moment but said nothing. Claire, for her part, took a sip of her drink and looked away, her tail giving a small flick as she tried to suppress the lingering sensations still running through her body.
The sea continued to crash gently against the shore as the day at the beach slowly came to an end.
