Use generic shapes to draw chars, etc etc etc. But I find that dosn't 'feel right' for me. I can do it but it takes forever..and often I get a result I don't like. So sometimes I just sit down and draw generic outlines..like this one. Usually I'll wind up redrawing it around 4~6 times in diff layers, slowly working out how I really want it to look. As I get better at this, I hope to turn down the number of times I do it. Oddly enough this dosn't take me as long to do as starting off using just shapes..so who knows. So for the picture..its supposed to be the same otter girl I've been drawing..once I had the main body done I realized far too late several mistakes (headsize, proportions, etc). But instead of scrapping it I decided to go ahead and draw it out completely, including details I don't normally put in a sketch this early.
