“Watch me, Mommy! Watch me!” Joey the roo called out from the top of the slide. “I’m watching, I’m watching!” Mama looked up from her knitting as her son got more and more excited! “Weeeeeee!” Joey laughed as he went all the way down. He hopped over to his Mama, hugging her legs. “Did you see?!” “I did see! You’re getting to be such a big boy, Joey! Mwah!” Mama kissed the top of her son’s head. “I’m gonna go play more!” he said, hopping off. “Have fun!” Mama said. Joey hopped across the playground. He had energy to burn! He saw the babies playing in the sandbox and stuck out his tongue. He was glad he wasn’t like them anymore. He could walk, and run, and use his big boy words when he needed to tell Mommy something. That made him feel very good inside! Suddenly, he felt something heavy move under his tummy. He stopped hopping. He knew what it was. He knew it was his body telling him it was time to do something very big, grown-up, and important. He walked back over to Mommy, thumb in mouth. Mommy stopped knitting. She knew something was up! “Joey? What’s wrong, sweetie?” Joey didn’t answer as she crawled into Mommy’s lap. He just suckled his thumb some more. “Joey, that’s not good for your teeth,” Mommy said as she gently took her son’s thumb out of his mouth. “Do you need to tell me something?” “Mm-hmm…” Joey mumbled. “What is it?” Mommy asked. “Mommy, um….I gotta…” “Yes? You gotta what?” Joey shifted upward to whisper in her ear, “I gotta go have an accident.” Mama was very relieved! “Oh! Is that all? You silly-billy, you made Mommy worry! Is it gonna be a pee-pee accident, or a poo-poo accident?” “A poo-poo accident,” Joey muttered. “Awww! Those are the best kinds of accidents to have! Good boy, Joey! Want me to hold you while you have your accident?” She knew he was still rather poop-shy! “Yeth, please.” Joey said, thumb back in mouth. Mama smiled. “All right, young man. Mommy says start going potty!” Joey buried his face in Mama’s chest, as he began to push. “Mmph!...Mmph!” “That’s it, push it out, good boy!” Joey’s tail hiked up, as he felt something open, and something warm, soft, and smelly started to come out. “Pbt…slurrrrrrp!” A mother cat with her kitten daughter had been watching. “Diaper training?” she chuckled. Mama said “Yep! Joey’s busy having an accident! With a little help from Mama!” “Good for you! Callie’s only pee-trained so far. It’s been a real uphill battle to stop her from pooping in the potty!” the mother cat said. “Wha’s dat boy doing, Mommy?” asked her kitten. “He’s going poopy in his undies so he can wear diapers like Mommy!” the cat explained. With a final “Pllarp!” Joey finished pooping his pants. He emerged from his mother, very red in the face. “Good boy! Feeling better with all your poo-poo out?” she asked. “Uh-huh!” Joey smiled. The warm soft mess in his undies was very comfy! And he smelled very big and grown-up too! He jumped down onto the ground. “Are you all done going potty?” Mama asked. “I dun’ think so,” Joey replied. “Mama says finish up going potty. Why don’t you show this kitten girl how you go pee?” Joey nodded, and relaxed. There was a gentle hissing sound as his bladder released, and a lovely warm wet spot appeared on his jeans, getting bigger and bigger! “Pshrrrrmmmm…” He giggled and blushed as the warm pee trickled down his legs, and pooled around his sneakers. Callie was fascinated. “He going pee-pee!” “Yes, sweetheart! That little joey is going pee in his pants just like you do!” When Joey was finished, Mama scooped him up and kissed him again! “Yaaay, Joey! You had an accident in your pants all by yourself! No more yucky undies or using the baby potty for you! Soon you’ll be ready for diapers just like me!” Her blouse got a little damp, but that was okay! “I poopy, Mama!” Joey said, feeling very pleased and proud. “Yes, you certainly are poopy! Peeyuu! After playtime is over, we’re gonna have to go clean you up!” Mama said. “Why don’t you go play with Callie? I’m sure she’d love to know what a big cub should smell like!” As the two cubs scampered off, the mother cat introduced herself. “I’m Tabitha. And you?” “Charlene,” Mama said. “Great to meet you! And what a lovely son you have!” “Thank you!” Elsewhere on the playground, Callie stopped moving. She felt a certain something move under her tummy, and passed a little gas. She knew it was her body telling her it was time to do something very grown-up, special, and important. She walked back over to her Mommy. She needed to ask her something.
