Its not the fanciest or cleanest drawing but I figured it was good enough to atleast get the idea across.\n\nLayer 1: I take a dark color (NOT black) that compliments the character well. Most of the time I use Dark red, I dont know its just what I always go to, but Josh's colors are all on the cooler side so in this case I picked dark blue. I start out with using the watercolor brush and just sloppily blob and mold together almost like a silhouette. I'll rough in a few facial features and whatnot just as a guide.\n\nLayer 2: I'll tone down the opacity of Layer one, and still using the watercolor brush (I like the Waterbrush because i can smear color around and form rough shapes easily in one layer) I'll make the brush smaller and sort of sketch with it, creating and roughing out more of the inner details. \n\nLayer 3: Toning down the opacity in layer 2, I'll then take something like a tiny Airbrush tool and make a sketch from my shittier sketch. I don't worry too much about the cleanliness of it, just as long as it's got all the important stuff there, I dont care if lines intersect or dont connect. Granted, a nice clean inking makes for a nice clean drawing, but in this case I'm not too worried about absolute perfection.\n\nLayer 4: I take the airbrush tool, usually set between 40-65 density (I switch a lot between the numbers depending on how slowly I want to build up an area) and like to keep my stabilizer tool on a little higher setting (personal preference I guess) and just shade the hell out of the sketch. I like making things look round, so I'll shade off of all of my lines. I also like finding any excuse to add more shading, like shadows casted from something like hair or nose or anything I can find. Ideally I like hiding all of my sketched lines with shading, I dont actually wanna see much lineword, I want it all looking like its blended together. Ultimately in the end, I want so much shading in my drawing that it looks finished even without color. If it still looks unfinished or something missing, find an excuse to toss more shading in there! Shading is the most important step out of everything I feel.\n\nLayer 5: Ive since turned off Layers 1 and 2. So what I do next is make a new layer underneath 3 and 4, and just add in my flat colors. Again, personal preference on the cleanliness of it all, but I'm not too picky most of the time and don't care if I get everything or color outside the lines a little XD But ultimately in the end here, all of your shading will create all those mid tones and dark tones for you. No need to toss 6 shades of green or something like that, it's already done pretty much. Now you can go back in, and add stuff like highlights or other colors and cool effects, but I feel at this stage, you can call it finished if you want. \n\nI think all in all, this took me about 20 minutes from start to finish. I personally just don't always have the attention span and patience for something that takes hours, so just over the years have come up with a way that works best for me to produce something in a fast pace, but still looking 'meh, good enough'. Now of course I can spend hours on something and make it look way better, but this is to basically just show my process, and that things don't neccesarily have to be done perfectly to look okay. I'm not a perfectionist, but my goal at the end of a drawing it to make it look interesting, not flawless. Perfect can be kind of boring in my eyes. I like things looking a bit more rough and raw. \n\nSo Yeah..that’s sort of it I guess ^.^\nPlease feel free to ask questions or anything, I’m not always the best at explaining things but I can certainly try my best to assist or just make sense of something ^.^\nAlso wanna do more of these, showing art tips is always something I very much enjoy, I just need to get better at how to put it into words.","description_bbcode_parsed":"<span style='word-wrap: break-word;'>I&#039;ve had a few people in the past ask me to come up with a little tutorial or something to sort of show how I draw, so I did a quick doodle of Josh in SAI, which is what I use.
