Lotus looked down at the last bites of pasta, floating pitifully in a thin layer of greasy broth. The teenage fox had lost her appetite.
Down the road, nuzzled safely on a block with a donut shop and a pizza parlor, her family operated a Chinese restaurant; an 'ancient family tradition'. Of course, that was a complete fabrication as they bought the building when Lotus was 8 and suddenly made up the great restaurant family act. Lotus never really cared much for it due to the high demands from her school, but even without her undivided attention, their little family business was doing well. Her younger sister would come by every day, after school, and wait tables. The customers always enjoyed the little one's mastery of being the cutest waitress ever and never really brought child labor laws into question, so all was good.
Their business, the gaudy and loudly pronounced 'Asian' eyesore, was on one of the most successful streets with constant heavy foot traffic. At this point, Lotus assumed most of their success was strictly coming from their lucky location... and the fact that a lot of customers arrived specifically after 3:00pm just to get Lotus' little sister's "Welcooooome~ I hope to be of good servis-th to you, today!"
Her step-father and mother radiated heavy bitterness and stress. In contrast, her little sister was naive and happy with a radiantly bubbly attitude; however she was also barely tall enough to sit at one of the tables without a booster, and was looking at the doors of puberty. Lotus would come in after a day at school every once in a great while to hear her parents bickering in the back room about finances and whatnot so she would normally steer clear of that war zone and help her little sister entertain the customers who were wondering why their food was taking so long.
How this was a successful restaurant was a complete mystery to Lotus.
The night was hell so far with less then a dozen served; plus the bickering, arguing, fighting and finally her step-father pouting and shutting down the kitchen because someone dared to ask if the wontons came frozen. 7pm and while every other business was thriving -- home was completely dark.
Lotus needed a break. Oh, the irony that she would rather go to another restaurant than her own.
Glancing from wall to wall in the warm little bistro she was sitting in, she absorbed the hip and vibrant atmosphere. What the food lacked in quality, the room made up for with life. Young groups around her age seemed to drift in and out and she found zen in just the people-watching.
Lotus did have a growing quagmire in her stomach, though; not from the food or her family but from the situation she was currently in. She was waiting for 8pm to roll around so she could pick up her new tutoring student, Jinx.
Lotus attended many extra-curricular activities at her own school -- but for her own expenses, she took up tutoring part-time. She enrolled for a middle school program where she would tutor students after class and, if the parents of the children allowed it, would be allowed to take the students to public environments that the students would be more willing to study in. The pay was not particularly great, in fact the pay was abysmal, but it DID count for college credit so it was a big plus for her.
That, and it allowed Lotus to quietly feed her ever-growing perverseness... but more in nibbles rather than bites. She found the boys to be quite annoying and difficult to teach but the girls were a different story. It was a slow lesson to learn about herself with how defiant she was by trying her hardest to find boys attractive -- but finally she realized that she was completely gay. That, and she just didn't have any attraction to girls her own age. She preferred a little bit more... youth.
It was unusual that Lotus had a tutoring session this late, but it was intentional. She wanted some actual alone time with one of her students for once. She was not particularly sure if anything would even come of it -- but it was more of an experimental thing. Her desires were something she wasn't in sync with.
Lotus glanced down at the bowl on her lap and decided it was a good time to leave. Her wait was over, after all. Sheepishly, she fished out her wallet from her purse; dropping a 5 on the table she neglected to use with the bowl, and headed for the door.
She took one last sympathetic glance at her phone; hesitantly re-reading the last text message she had received. It was from her little beaver friend, Parfait, who was prying into her business. "so, who's the lucky giiiiiirl ;)" was the last text.
It was a great shame that Parfait saw through her 'elaborate' ruse, but very quickly, it was obvious that Lotus was predominately lesbian. Parfait loved teasing her with this fact, but, Lotus still came to her for awkward advice.
Her previous question referred to what you should say after kissing another girl. Parfait's text response was bathed in joyous condescension and emoticons. Plenty of emoticons. Though Parfait didn't know the age of the girl Lotus inquired about -- it was still very amusing to think that Lotus was sitting at the edge of some young woman's couch; sipping tea and being very quiet and withdrawn as they both watched Ellen DeGeneres or something.
Lotus' phone buzzed loudly as she quickly got into her truck to avoid the heavy rain outside. Taking one last look, it was yet another text from Parfait: "come oooon, tell me her name! if u do, ill make your night worthwhile and ill totally join the threeway clam slam <3"
"Threeway clam slam" was enough to make Lotus turn her phone off. There was an odd liberation that came with cutting off every contact during these upcoming moments. Plus, she had already gotten all of the information she needed out of Parfait: Say "thank you" to the girl after kissing her. Got it!
Her conservative driving techniques got her to her destination... but rather slowly. She tended to hunch over her steering wheel and disregard every car that rolled up beside her just to have some guy with a bandana scream something along the lines of "GET OFF THE ROAD, BITCH" at her.
Jinx, the girl that Lotus was to tutor, definitely awoke some primal urges and she found herself focusing intently on this fact. She was simply there to teach... even if she was going to take Jinx back to her family's closed restaurant for alone time... but still, there was no logical way she could get what she wanted out of this situation. How in the world would she approach this girl without getting fired from her job... or worse?
Apparently, due to the amount of crossroads or something, Jinx had taken it upon herself to start heading towards the bus station so Lotus wouldn't have such a hard time. Lotus, of course, wasn't aware of this -- needless to say, when a girl emerged out of the darkness of the night and jumped into her truck at the stoplight that led directly into her neighborhood. To be 'startled' was an understatement.
Jinx recognized Lotus inside of her truck and, like a master of improvisation, decided to just take the liberty of chance and leaped inside of the vehicle. She sloshed her wet backpack full of books on the backseat and grinned under her dripping bangs. Her faelyne fangs glistened in the red glow of the stoplight -- making this more than a little intimidating especially to a sheltered and already apprehensive Lotus.
"Hi!" the girl said; sounding quite winded and congested. "It's cold! Is the heater on-- YEP!" she immediately thrust most of her upper body in front of the blasting heat. "Thaaanks!"
Abrasiveness seemed to be this girl's... forte. Lotus weakly offered a smile back -- still transfixed on Jinx's physical attractiveness but now completely mystified as to how this night was going to transgress. She was expecting what she normally received in those she tutored: shy, withdrawn and soft-spoken. Though she was not complaining, because variety is the spice of life, but she definitely was not expecting this.
"Y-you knooow," Lotus started; her awkward mannerisms kicking in with her slight stutter. "I could've been a stranger. It's not safe to... hitchhike like that."
"I didn't hitchhike." Jinx proclaimed; rubbing her hands together in front of the heater. "I just jumped in -- more like grand theft automobiiiile... except without the grand... and theft. I just automobiled into your automobile." she smirked. "Sorry! I'm a little hyper right now -- just drank some soda so I could run over to the bus stop super fast! Good thing I found you before you got to my house, huh?"
"'Automobiled is not... t-that's... not a verb." the light turned green and she slowly pushed down on the accelerator. "If you wanted a verb to go with what you're trying to des--"
"You're my math tutor, not my English tutor." Jinx huffed but thought about it for a second. "...but tell me anyways. This isn't the first time I've done this -- and I really wanna know what I should say without saying 'I automobiled into your automobile'."
Shocked, Lotus gasped. "How... often do you break into moving vehicles?"
"I'm kiiiiddiiiing!" Jinx nodded her head furiously. "Sorry! I hope I didn't offend. I'll jump out if you wa--"
"NO! NO! That won't b-be necessary!" Lotus found a stoplight which allowed U-turns finally and took it. After a long and awkward silence, Lotus finally blurted out: "So... have you eaten?"
Jinx seemed more collected at this point, but, she was ringing out her massive braid all over the car seat. "Huh?"
"Have... you eaten food?" Lotus tried to level the playing field after realizing that, yes, she was quite the uptight creature. "You know... food? I'm not like... your Home-EC tutor too, right?" she let out a nervous giggle at her own weird joke; sounding almost like a chirp.
Jinx glared at Lotus with a sly smirk. "You're funny," she bluntly stated non-sarcastically. "Plus I like your hair."
"W--" Lotus was caught so offguard that she nearly lost her grip on the steering wheel. Never will Jinx know that her mundane compliment nearly killed them both. "...thank you."
At this point, Jinx was fiddling around with her wardrobe almost sexually. Every time Lotus would glance at the little faelyne, it was as if she was stripping but stopping just short of actually showing anything... special. Lotus assumed she was trying to dry her fur... but it was so hot how she was doing it.
"You know," Jinx shook her black shirt violently in an effort to air dry it at super speed. "I actually am pretty hungry."
"Oh! We--"
"I'd really love to go to a Chinese restaurant... if you don't mind, that is." she giddily smiled. "I've been dying for some Chinese food lately -- I'd do just about anything for some!"
"...huh." Lotus couldn't help but stifle a laugh. "Good. That's where we're going!"
Lotus couldn't have possibly been aware, from their short exchange, that Jinx was just as equally attracted to her as Lotus was to Jinx. Jinx was probably just good at hiding it... for the time being at least.
She, after all, had a funny way of showing someone that she liked them -- Lotus would soon learn.
