Freezing, that's how James would describe the current state of his body and of the woods he wandered through. The trees and ground were blanketed with white glimmering snow, it would be peaceful if it weren't for the fact that it was ten degrees below zero and James was freezing his assets off. He did not know how he came to be in these woods, all he remembered was cuddling up with his wife after a long day of work; he was just starting to fall asleep when he felt a chill run down his body followed by being dumped into the freezing cold snow. His footprints trailed behind him as he kept walking hoping to god that he found somewhere warm, some abandoned cabin or maybe even a occupied one so he could get some answers. The wind howled through the snow covered trees as he made his trek up a large hill. His teeth were chattering so loud he swore he could communicate with a chipmunk. He was dressed in a large winter coat and warm snow boots but his pants were thin and did nothing to help protect from the cold. Finally he made it up the large hill and looked down at the scene in front of him, a large frozen lake with snow and trees bordering it. It was small and hard to see but out in the distance he could definitely make out the shape of a small brightly lit cabin."There must be people there," he said to himself, He was certain of it, why else would the cabin be glowing with obvious signs of light? Now the only problem he had was, how was he going to get to the cabin? He couldn't go around, that would take too long and he feared that he would freeze to death before he got there. The only other thing he could think of was to go over the frozen lake. He had no clue if the ice could even hold his weight but he had to try and so ventured down the hill. Making it to the edge he took a quick look at the cabin ahead, smoke slowly raised through the large chimney, the windows glowed with light and to James, hope. Focusing back to the lake James carefully put some of his weight upon the ice. James froze as the ice creaked and slowly put more weight on the ice. Once again it creaked loudly but did James saw no sign of the ice cracking. James let out a sigh of relief as he put his full weight on the ice and started his trek towards the cabin. As he got a quarter of the way he started to relax, the lake was obviously frozen completely. James smiled to himself and started to walk faster, he could just start to make out shapes of people through the window. There were three of them, one obviously a child and the other two large shadows must have been it’s parents. James was filled with hope as he finally made it to the end of the lake, the cabin not more than a few feet away from him. James wasted no time running up the steps and quickly banging on the door. Finally he could get some answers, not to mention some food and hopefully a nice cup of hot chocolate. He waited but received no answer, "what's going on? I know I saw shadows of people in there," he said to himself as he started to bang on the door louder, screaming, "HELLO? ANYONE THERE? I NEED HELP." He screamed with all his might but there was no answer. He tried looking through the windows only to find that they were opaque and couldn't be seen through. Tired and freezing cold James did the only thing he could think of, quickly he moved back and lifted his leg slamming it into the door as hard as he could. A shot of pain through his leg had him screaming in agony as he heard bone crunching, his ankle has shattered. Thank god it wasn't a waste though as the door had burst inwards. Shaking from pain more than cold now he grabbed the door handle and limped his way inside, "Hello? Sorry for breaking your door but I desperately need help and now my ankle...is...broken...," He stopped looking at the objects that created the shadows. "w...what the fuck? Is this some kind of sick joke?" He said nearly screaming. In front of him were three mannequins dressed up to look like a family relaxing in the den. James was speechless and angry, he had just walked through a foot of snow in the woods for who knows how long and then made his way over a frozen lake only to to see that what he thought were people in a cabin that could help him were mannequins all along and to top it all off he had broken his ankle. James slammed the door shut exhausted and in pain he grabbed a chair from the dinner table that was to the right of him and pushed it against the door to keep it closed. Limping he made his way to the kitchen hoping that whoever made this place at least stocked it up with food. He hopped his way to the fridge and opened it praying to god there was food. Nothing, there was absolutely nothing inside, the damn thing wasn’t even on. He checked all the cupboards to find they were all barren as well. With no food and a busted ankle he slowly moved up to the mannequins glaring at them. With a quick movement he grabbed the large male mannequin and tore its head off throwing it into the fake fireplace screaming in anger. So many questions flitted through his head, who brought him here? Where is here anyway? And most importantly, who the fuck puts mannequins in a brightly lit cabin? Shaking his head James started looking for a bathroom hoping that there would at least be some kind of first aid bag that he could use to bandage his ankle. Checking the rooms on the bottom floor revealed a large bedroom with a king sized bed with large thick blankets and very soft looking pillows. Shaking the tiredness from his head James made his way to the other door on the right side of a large staircase only to find an empty closet. He shook his head his in anger as it faded to tiredness and depression and made his way up the stairs. At the top he found a simple hallway with three doors one to the right, one to the left, and the other right in front of him down the dark hallway. He opened each door to the side finding one closet as well as another bedroom. This bedroom though had a small bed to the right corner, the blankets had pictures of toy trains scattered all over it. A large toy box rested in the middle of the room shaped like the caboose of a train while to the left was a large dresser and mirror combination. Checking the toy box found it to be empty as well as the dresser. James turned to look at the bed and felt a shiver shoot down his back as his eyes went wide. There on the bed rested the small boy mannequin tucked in as if he was asleep, it's head was turned so its wide empty eyes stared at him. James was terrified, he had no clue how that thing moved from all the way downstairs to that bed and if he was honest with himself he didn't want to know. The only thought that could come to his head was that there was someone in the house with him, "HELLO?" he yelled in the room and listened. Nothing, the only answer he got was the howling winds outside; he thought he heard footsteps but he shook that thought out of his head. Turning towards the door he made his way back into the hallway and turned towards the final door. The dark hallway seemed longer to him but he just assumed it was the light playing tricks on his mind and made his way towards it. To his delight he opened the door to a small bathroom, a bathtub/shower stood to his left, a toilet in front of it and to his right was a sink with a mirrored cupboard above it. Limping he moved in front of the sink and opened the cupboard smiling wide as he saw a small bag with a red cross on it. James grabbed the bag quickly opening it; some bandages and a large roll of gauze greeted his gaze as he sighed in relief. He kneeled down and quickly bandaged up his ankle tightly in the gauze. He stood up and tested it, while it still hurt to move he could just barely put some pressure on without feeling pain so that was good. He put the medical bag back in the cupboard and closed the door to it. He screamed loudly, behind him was the female mannequin but this time she was naked with a towel wrapped around her body staring at him through the mirror. Her mouth was open in was seemed like a scream, that can't be right, he thought to himself, I was certain that their mouths were in a smile downstairs. He hastily made his way downstairs shaking with fear, he had to get out of there, he didn't care if it was freezing cold he would rather deal with that then whatever sick fuck was arranging these things to mess with him. When he got downstairs he stopped and his jaw dropped. There in front of the door was the male mannequin that he had taken the head off. It's head was back on and its face, its face was twisted into a horrific sight. The mannequin's mouth was in a frown, except this wasn't just a molded on frown oh no, it was a black hole that looked carved out. Large sharp shark like teeth lined the black abyss of that mouth glistening with red blood. James was breathing heavily shaking from fear, one of the mannequin's arms were lifted up a finger pointing at him, its eyes were black empty holes with red glowing dots. Blood dripped down the empty eye hole. James realized that these weren't no ordinary mannequins, they were... Something else... Something monstrous. He thought for a quick second that maybe if he ran and threw it to the side he could get through the door but then he looked at its other hand. A hammer was held there and he realized with dread as he looked at the door that it was nailed shut, there was no escape. That's when he heard the noise. What sounded like light footsteps caused him to spin around. To each side of the staircase were the other two. Both had the same expression as the male mannequin, both had the empty black eye holes with those red pupils, both had the large rows of sharp teeth and both were pointing at him. As soon as he heard the footsteps behind him he ran as fast as he could; he didn't think, he just ran. Straight up the stair past the woman and child he quickly saw them slowly move, their movements were inhuman their arms and legs creaked and crackled in stiff movements, their mouths open and closed as clicking and screeching came out of them echoing from the inside of their hollow body outwards. He tripped on the stairs screaming in pain as he looked down to see the male's hand grabbing his foot. It was moving faster than the others. James desperatly tugged and wrenched his foot out of the monster's grip crawling up the stairs as fast as he could he quickly got to his feet at the top and looked down the stair. The monsters were making their way slowly up at him, they knew he had nowhere to go, nowhere to run. James had to think quick and looked at the three doors and decided to run into the child's room. Opening the door he slammed it shut and made quick work moving the large dresser in front of the door grunting in pain as his broken ankle sent wave after wave of agony through his body. Ignoring the pain he turned and looked where he could hide. Under the bed? No there's no way he could fit under there. James heard the mannequins make it to the top of the stairs. That's when he heard them banging on the bedroom door. He knew it wouldn't last, whatever these things were they were strong and would get through that door and dresser in no time; he had to think fast. James looked at the toy chest, it was the only thing that could fit him. He slowly limped towards it the pain of his ankle getting past the adrenalin that was surging through his body. He jumped as he heard the cracking of the door breaking and quickly got into the chest curling his body up as he closed the lid and quickly held his breath. The sound of the dresser tipping over echoed through the room. He heard the creaking as the things walked in looking around the empty space. He closed his eyes shut tightly praying for them to go away, hoping this was all a dream that he would wake up from soon. The creaking slowly started to get quieter and quieter until it stopped. James opened his eyes and listened carefully, He couldn't hear anything, not the creaking of the mannequins movement, nor the howling of the wind outside. Were they gone? Did they look to check the other rooms? James slowly breathed outwards as he reached up towards the lid and slowly opened it a crack to look into the room. All he saw was blackness and two blood red dots staring back at him.
